I ordered a regular cold brew, I was asked what creamer would I like. I said almond milk but change my mind to half and half prior to payment. I was still charged the Almond milk +$0.75 in the order. I clarified before tapping my card, $6.25 for a regular cold brew? She said correct unless I wanted a Large size which would be a difference in price. I tapped and asked for a receipt. When getting my drink, I asked the barista why I wasn't charged $5.50 as stated on the menu board for a regular cold brew. He said it was because I asked for almond milk. And the charged for $6.25 remained. I left confused with my order- regular cold brew with half and half. I was upcharged for a standard drink. The drink itself is watered down with no flavor. There is better cold brew found anywhere else. Also, the phone number on the receipt doesn't take you to the store, you could only leave a voice message. The website is under construction and there is no other way to contact the coffee shop. Completely disappointed in the drink, service and coffee shop.
Ground Up local coffee spot located next door to J&S. Finally decided to try it out. I ordered the Banana Latte. I added Mocha. It was a perfect blend of coffee, banana & Mocha. Coffee wasn't too strong. Service was quick and easy. They were a little busy but the two ladies got the orders out in timely matter. It's a very small quaint little shop sitting on the Main Street Garfield. Parking can be tough. I've had better coffee but this not a bad local place to give a try. Beats over priced Starbucks any day. I'll definitely be back when in the area.
We came here on Memorial Day around 9 am and there was already a steady flow of traffic but not too long of a line to order. We were greeted as soon as we walked in! We waited in line about 5 minutes which gave me time to check out their main menu and a cute customer favorites menu. I also appreciated the art on the walls, the sticker fridge, and the bookshelf with books of all types and games. I ordered the April iced: quad shot latte, 1 pump honey, cinnamon, and oat milk. J ordered a large cold brew. The April is good, the espresso is very present but not overwhelming and I knew what to expect. The cold brew could be stronger but it tastes good.
This has become my new favorite local coffee spot. I stop by before work all the time, and it's nice seeing a small community coffee shop getting more popular. It's conveniently right off the 60 freeway, with both indoor and outdoor seating and a welcoming local feel. The service is quick and efficient, and I appreciate supporting places like this over big corporate chains. I've tried the turkey & cheese croissant, spinach & ricotta croissant, everything bagel, and chocolate chip cookie, all really good. I also like that they heat everything in a toaster oven instead of a microwave. The coffee is consistently good, and I'll definitely keep coming back. Worth checking out if you're in the area.
My relatives bought me a bag of Ground Up whole beans when they came to visit me a couple months ago. I used that bag of beans for coffee every day for its short existence (maybe a week). I was thoroughly impressed. The depth of flavor along with its mild acidity and bitterness made a very good and balanced cup of coffee. When I came out to visit my relatives this week, Ground Up was my first stop for coffee. I had been here twice before, but it had been over a year. It was 10am but it felt like 80 degrees. Still, I ordered my cortado and drip coffee. Two minutes later they called out that a cortado was ready. I didn't think it was my order because I hadn't received my drip coffee yet. They called out a drip coffee next, and I realized the drinks were mine. That was quick! And there were several people in the cafe. Both drinks were equally excellent, just as I remembered. I asked the barista what beans were used in my drinks. He told me the Espresso blend for the cortado and the Naranjos for the drip. I bought a bag of whole beans of each. I'll try to make those bags a last little longer this time.
I think I had something called Riffa - all I remember was it was delicious with all the right notes of cinnamon and some other ingredients. I had the turkey croissant warmed, and it was perfect. Enjoyed the comfortable setting and music. Server was very nice and welcoming. Will definitely return to get another awesome coffee fix. There's some indoor chairs for study, nice outside, and a window counter with stools. A must when I'm near Montebello.
They have a very small parking lot in the back. There's limited street parking. Came during a weekend. They were not busy. Got the large cold matcha latte with oat milk for 8 something. Saw that they squirted some clear sweetener on the drink. The drink was pretty good. There was plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. There were also plenty of outlets. They did clear out the place at 3pm. Good place to catch up with friends.
Clean aesthetic, cozy vibe, and real community energy at Ground Up Coffee. Small shop, big culture feel. Matcha Latte with oat milk was freshly prepped, smooth, and on point. Quick service, no extra noise -- just quality done right. Solid neighborhood staple.
Ground Up Coffee (Montebello) is special. The moment I sipped my Banana Oat Latte ($6.25 - iced) my eyes widened in genuine surprise. The flavor of fresh banana was immediate! Next, its loving caffeine fluttered vibrantly causing a bright smile to widen. This is indescribably delicious! I arrived at Ground Up Coffee (Montebello) on Monday (around 11:50AM). The parking situation is HORRIBLE. The proposed private parking in the back was completely full. The public parking in the front was completely clogged. I had to park several minutes away near a golf course where a sign proudly declared how the city won't be responsible if your car gets damaged. Later, I find myself almost blocked in as more cars later surround me. Yet, despite how horrible, I still understand the hype. Ground Up Coffee (Montebello) is popular for a very good reason. The counter lacked a long line, but I still waited three minutes and 11 seconds until being helped. It appears the one staff member had a pattern of taking one order, making that one order, and returning to take another order. It moved very slow for having one person ahead of me. Staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Staff (receipt said Nathanael) answered all my questions and struck friendly conversations with familiar patrons. I ordered the Banana Oat Latte ($6.25 - iced), and my drink was completed in one minute and 49 seconds. Fast! As mentioned prior, I adored the Banana Oat Latte ($6.25 - iced). It's delicious, fresh coffee. This coffee was not bitter nor overly sweetened; rather, it brought the taste of fresh & light banana. The caffeine is neither obtrusive nor punchy; instead, its caffeine felt clean and enduring. This Banana Oat Latte felt chill, smooth, and refreshing. It almost teetered towards tasting silky like a freshly brewed milk tea. Phenomenal!! Regarding ambiance, Ground Up Coffee (Montebello) uses its small space well. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is well-ventilated and clean. The music was slow but with a perky beat. Its inside includes three tiny tables with two chairs each; there's one tall counter with two tall chairs; and there's one long bench. Each of these seating areas were near an electrical outlet for devices. Also, there's a small book/entertainment corner that included Jenga, playing cards, and Scrabble. There's also a gender neutral restroom in the back. For its outside, most of its outside tables are well-shaded. There's six outside tables and one bench. Unfortunately, its outside patio has no music. Instead, customers will have the breeze of the car exhaust driving by, and the sounds of zooming vehicles. However, I did like how there's two public water bowls for dogs. Overall, Ground Up Coffee (Montebello) serves magical coffee. My distaste for its awful parking vanished as I felt myself drift away in caffeine bliss. The Banana Oat Latte ($6.25 - iced) brewed up a burst of joy. Delightful! I happily recommend! 4.8 out of 5
Really enjoyed this coffee shop. It was super easy to find and right off the freeway. They have their own parking lot, which was super convenient. There is a spacious outdoor patio with a few tables and counterspace on the inside. Friendly and patient service. I read that they are known for the vanilla cinnamon latte, so that is what i went for. A large latte has 4 shots and a small latte has 2 shots. I got the small since it's almost 10 am already.. (i'm trying) I also got a ham and cheese croissant. It was on the biggerside, had a nice crunchiness on the top and tasty ham and cheese. Now I'm sitting outside watching all the people come in and out.. and quite a few people have come and gone. When i arrived the patio was almost empty and now it is full. Cute spot.. i will come again when i am in the area.
I really enjoyed my time here I spent about an hour or two getting some work done and being on my phone. Such a yummy spot. Super cute interior. They keep it COLD; Perfect for this heatwave. . . I got the popular vanilla cinnamon latte with oat milk and it was so good. I'm a coffee drinker so it doesn't affect me much when I drink a lot. So it was nice that the large has four shots & it really got me in the zone focused on my work!
I enjoy ground up coffee very much, I used to come here very often since I was a student at ELAC which is pretty much down the street. Since I was in the area this time I decided to revisit for old times sake. The shop is quaint & cute, they have some seating indoors & outdoors. The shop is quiet so it's a good place to come & chill or stay and work on things if you need to. They don't have the biggest selection in drinks which I can appreciate because it gives them time to focus on what they have. My favorite is the vanilla cinnamon latte which is perfect. The taste of the coffee isn't strong nor is it weak I think it's just right if I'm being honest. It also isn't the sweetest with just a hint of vanilla & the cinnamon that brings it all together. That's what I can appreciate out of a good coffee anyway. Overall I love this place and will revisit whenever I'm in the area, price point is good, staff is friendly, and vibe is chill.
I'm in town visiting my son and while waiting to meet him, I looked up coffee place and this place just happened to be right down the street from the hotel I'm staying at. I was greeted by Nathan. He was very pleasant and explained the drinks to me. I was not familiar with the wellness latte. It was great! I ordered a spinach/ricotta croissant and it was wonderful...delivered by Leighla who was very pleasant also. The place is really well put together with cool pictures on the wall and very nice seating. They also played music of my era 70s and 80s and I loved sitting there enjoying all of it and soaking it all in. I liked it so much and I bought a sweatshirt that I will proudly wear. I'm only in town one more day and I'm hoping to go again tomorrow and enjoy everything about Ground Up Coffee. read more

So cute!! Stopped on our way to Big Bear from west LA. Got a soy milk latte with cinnamon and oat milk latte. They were standard! Ambiance was great (limited indoor seating, lots of outdoor seating), and service was very timely. No vegan or gluten free pastry options. A couple parking spots for 20 min right out front, then maybe a lot in back? Not totally sure as we did a spot out front. Some cute merch. Would return! read more

I couldn't decide between their vanilla and hazelnut latte therefore they suggested a coffee called ying yang and it is a combination of their vanilla and mocha flavor. Their coffee is good and I like how they aren't too sweet and you can actually taste the coffee. The space is always clean and there's seating available for work/study. read more
Ground Up Coffee was the spot for a weekday coffee pick-up. I went on a Tuesday around 8:30 AM. This store is located on a busy street. However, I was able to find a parking spot right in front of the store. I decided to get a vanilla latte with oat milk, 3 shots of espresso, and 1/2 vanilla syrup. I wasn't sure if it was going to be too sweet, so I opted for the 1/2 vanilla syrup. However, for the future, I think normal amount of syrup will be a good balance. There was no wait-time for ordering. I was also able to get my drink within 2 minutes. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the visit. Note: American Express is accepted. read more

I was at J&S next door and saw number ppl at this coffee house I said why not . Very nice spot to chill outside on the table and staff very friendly. Montebello is my old stomping grounds and it look nice by QC's if you grew up here you know where . Moving I ordered ice vanilla cinnamon latte and omg it was it hit the spot. Definitely stop by will not regret and please support small business .. btw cheers read more
Not the best coffee but not worst one either. The coffee had too much milk and you barely taste the coffee. The service was excellent though, the barista was super nice and wiped up my order in less than 5 minutes. But again it didn't taste the best but it did give me the energy I needed for the day. Also there only street parking and it's always heavy on the traffic. read more

On a Saturday afternoon, I found this spot because I was craving coffee. This place was fairly busy, but I found parking easily on the street. Upon entering, I was greeted, but the facial expressions of the workers appeared as though they didn't want to be there. I ordered an iced matcha latte and an iced vanilla latte with cinnamon. [ Drink ] I ordered the Iced Vanilla Cinnamon Latte and it was good! It was reasonably priced as well. [ Service ] The girl that took my order was nice and the drink came out quick. They only have a couple of tables inside, but they have an outdoor seating area as well. [ Parking ] They have their own parking lot but I opted to park in front of the shop on the street. read more

My new favorite cafe! Had a wonderful experience the other day. I often drive by and see this place, but usually after it has closed for the day. However I was finally able to try it and I really enjoyed my Matcha latte. So much so that I went back the next day for another one lol the flavor was really prominent and not too sweet. I don't like when a Matcha latte is overpowered by the milk and sugar and they nailed the ratios here. The ambiance is also very welcoming and I noticed a few people working there so now I am inspired to do the same soon. I look forward to trying more things from their menu. It is also good to know that there is additional parking in the back because in front you are limited to 20 minute parking which had deterred me from stopping by before. read more

Quality/Quantity - Flat White - Not on the menu, but he had no issues making it for me. He was not able to "draw" on the cream. The drink was just okay. Next visit I will try their cappuccino or lattes, so at minimum, I can get some art work for my pictures, lol. Limited menu, see picture. Atmosphere - Good size local coffee shop. Cool decor. Indoor and outdoor seating. Clean and organized bathroom. Parking is an issue, please follow all the signs to avoid issues. See pictures. Limited private parking, again read signs. Open 7 days a week 7am to 1pm Mondays to Fridays and 8am to noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Service - Good. Price - $5.50 for regular size, the middle size. so thankful that they extended their store hours as i will be coming more often now. the service here is so fast and reliable! such a cute little coffee shop with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. their chai latte was very delicious. it was spicy and creamy. this time i ordered the vanilla cinnamon half caf latte. this is the perfect midafternoon drink. the flavor is strong enough and has enough caffeine to get me through the rest of the day. the drink was also affordable and not overpriced like other coffee shops. honestly a solid 8/10. read more

I've been seeing their drinks all over social media and since I love checking out new coffee spots on my free time, I was really looking forward to trying this place. It seemed like they put a lot of love into what they do and I got the vibe that they're really trying to grow their business and make sure everything they serve is high quality. I ordered an iced chai tea latte, and I'm just gonna be real. I wasn't a huge fan. It tasted pretty watered down, more like spicy milk than a balanced chai. I could kind of taste the tea and spices but not as much as I expected. The vibe inside the shop felt a little off too... the people behind the counter seemed a bit distant, which made the experience feel less welcoming than I hoped. (I understand they're probably overly stressed from a busy day so I don't blame them just stating my experiences) That said, I really liked the way the place was decorated. The little library they have going on was super cozy and the outdoor area with all the plants was beautiful, perfect for just chilling outside for a bit. I just wish my first visit had gone a little differently. read more

The number one drink that people order is the Iced Vanilla Cinnamon Latte so you know I had to try it for myself. I asked the barista for his recommendation and it was the exact same drink so I had no hesitation in trying it. I don't like my coffee too sweet so they were kind enough to accommodate that by making it half sweet. And the verdict was... it was absolutely amazing. They poured so much cinnamon inside that the cup had cinnamon swirls around it. Not only did it taste better but it also made it look more beautiful. It had a hint of vanilla but the richness of the milk and depth of flavor from the espresso created a beautiful flavor profile. They have a beautiful and calming outdoor seating area that seems like a great place to hang out and enjoy a relaxing morning. Unfortunately, I grabbed this coffee before work so I took it to go but I would definitely come back for that exact drink or maybe a different one to explore the menu. There's street parking right in front which I was luckily able to snatch, but if you're not lucky they have a small parking lot in the back. read more

I had the pumpkin latte and I was very surprised. It was very delicious. The surface was nice and great and it was actually a line and it went pretty quickly and I got the latte pretty fast. They had nice decorations for Halloween season time so I really like that. read more

The workers are not friendly nor welcoming at all. I also noticed that giving the coffee not completely filled up became a thing for them. It's sad to see a good place go down because of their workers. And if you wonder why I never said anything the answer is, I never felt comfortable to say "hey why is my cup so low?" These are the workers that don't even greet you when you come in or say "thank you, have a good one" when you pick up your coffee. I gave this place multiple opportunities but I'm done. My partner & I love coming to Ground Up whenever we get the chance; this was our first date location when we first met a few years ago so maybe I'm biased haha. Their hot coffee is my favorite, you can tell they care about their craft & service. read more
Community built from the Ground Up Ground Up coffee is a beautiful cozy shop with plenty of greenery. As soon as you enter you are greeted with a gorgeous mural that I believe embodies the sense of community that Ground Up is built on. This is also seen with the book shelf that you can check out! I tried the Banana Oat Latte & was blown away by how delicious it was! Many shops I go to struggle to pack flavor without keeping consistency in mind. The banana bread was soft & flavorful. Very different from the prepackaged muffins that you'll find everywhere. I appreciate the attention to detail & quality. I have passed by this shop countless times & have always seen it packed with people. It has been on my try-list & I am so glad I did. I highly recommend that you try it as well! read more

I am torn with this place. The coffee is good and it's a cute place but they really need to understand the difference between a latte and a cappuccino. I want to support a local coffee shop instead of Starbucks but having to continually ask for no foam for my latte makes me feel like I am the ahole customer when I am unhappy with my drink. Today it was busy so I didn't want to ask them to remake my drink (or just add more milk). I ended up with half of the cup with foam. Wtf!!?????? The pic is only after taking 3-4 sips after I tried to salvage my drink by mixing in the foam. I work 5 min away and it didn't even make it to work because of how little amount of drink there was.
