I consider myself to be open-minded when it comes to different types of clubs, and when I heard it was goth/emo I was excited, since I'm a metalhead. First of all, it was all cash only. The bank is across the street so that's helpful I guess. The venue was oddly empty the whole night even though they had an event going on. The music in-between the acts (which included fire dancing, silk dancing, and aerial with a hoop, which we the highlight of the night) was techno-gothic-core music. I listen to a lot of genres of music that are considered "weird" but that music has like no beat to dance to at all. You either need to be completely into that type of music, or too many drinks in to be able to dance to that. Also, in the back, you sit in church pews and watch live BDSM that is sexual, but oddly not. It's just weird to watch and uncomfortable in the most weird way, I can't put my finger on it. Also you can't have your phone out at all remotely close to the BDSM, I understand why, but it was down and I was obviously texting and not taking pictures. I'm a very liberal, GGG, open minded person. I am comfortable with nudity, support healthy and consensual sex and I'm for people exploring kinks. But this was too strange for me. Older men wearing nothing but some kind of sack over their bits as they are tied up does nothing for me. I don't want to watch it and the tie patterns are so complicated they take forever. So I gave up and tried to dance but apparently this is not allowed if you have a drink. I guess they were worried about the concrete getting wet. There is no way I would leave my drink on a counter or table as the clientele don't appear to be the most above board folks around. The place is a pain as it's a cash bar and cash cover with techno dance music and a ton of losers on acid swaying to their trip. I guess I shouldn't have had any expectations walking in here, but I did. When I got invited to a BDSM show I thought it was going to be a little more intense a little more risky. I wanted to see pain, but it was an absolute drag. I'm sure it has to do with the legality of it all... I don't know. Just would've liked to see something more exciting. I felt like the dominatrix/submissive performers didn't have much experience. There weren't interesting tools being used or sexy enough outfits. The main stage was not being utilized, and the music was not something you could really dance to. I might go here again, I might not. Depends if they up their game. read more

Ok, so Ground Zero is not really my scene, albeit it's fun when drunk. So you walk in the first bar called The Front where they play top 20 music like most of the other bars. It's dark but cool inside and then you go to the back (Ground Zero) for sometimes bondage with people in cages or vampires dancing to techno music. TRULY unique. So I wouldn't normally go to a place with a description like this. Dark, goth, bondage...doesn't sound fun. Went one night with friends and this place is actually pretty awesome. The atmosphere, crowd is all very different. Cocktails, while strong, could use a little help. They are served in little plastic tumblers that are small little juice glasses. In the first moments I entered this void of an establishment I noticed a snake wrapped around someone's neck and no one was helping her! The floor was suspiciously clean for a night club. I'm used to sticky boots. Everyone there was bullied in high school and/or middle school. In addition, multiple couples were quite friendly, defiantly would recommend if you're seeking a 3 way, 4 way, or orgy! If you're gonna have a bdsm night, step it up. The performance was weak and the swords were fake af. The music was so boring, the same patterns of sound over and over again, not even goth. Weak ass techno hypnosis. The front was a bit more fun, better music, but everyone was batshit wasted, drinks were spilled and boys were stoooopid and didn't know when to shut up. The bartender was wasted but tbh I would be too if I were him. The best feature was the circle window upstairs in the front. Went to The Front on a cold Friday night. I first like that this is one of the few places you can go without paying a cover charge. Crowd size was full but still room enough to move around. A club that keeps it simple. Big dance floor. Very basic drink menu. Good bartenders. Dark, gothy environment.

At first blush, this club appears to be a goth/industrial club on the line of The Inferno in Madison, WI. There is a main stage for bands and large shows next to the main dance area and there is a smaller stage in the back where they do smaller demonstrations of the bdsm variety. I went with a bunch of friends because they were having a geeky burlesque show one evening. My friends and I dressed up in costume and made our way to the club expecting to find the same atmosphere that we enjoy at The Inferno, and when we first walked in it seemed as though we wouldn't be disappointed. The decor is similar and I instantly felt at home. We watched the show (which was awesome) and then decided to stick around and dance for the rest of the night. This is where the fun pretty much ended. The bartenders were dressed sort of gothy, but were not as friendly as the bartenders back home, but that's not going to ruin my night. We got our drinks, went to the DJ booth to request some songs and went to dance. We were swiftly told by someone - possibly an owner or manager - that we were not allowed to drink on the dance floor. Ok. Sure. So we left the dance floor to finish our beer. It was disappointing because I like to multitask :) but I can see the reason. A bunch of drunk people writhing around on a dance floor with drinks in their hands equals quite a few spilled drinks and a dirty floor at the end of the evening. We left our drinks and danced to a few songs, but then we wanted to finish our drinks and with dancing not an option, we went and sat out on the patio and chatted. After our drinks were finished, we went back in to dance. It was fairly late in the evening, but there were not many people dancing, which is not at all like the inferno. Late in the evening at the Inferno, the dance floor is packed full of gothy-clad people happily dancing the night away. I saw the same man chase more people off the dance floor and noticed the majority of the patrons sitting at tables ringing the dance floor watching the 8 or 9 people out there while drinking their beverages. An employee brandishing a mop nudged some dancers aside to mop up a few stray drops of liquid (presumably from a contraband beverage that had made its way to the dance floor earlier) and it occurred to me that this is what a club would be if my mother ran it. She would just follow patrons around wiping up spills and giving them dirty looks if they seemed like they might wreck her newly-mopped floors. We made our way to the dance floor. I mentioned earlier that we had come in costume, and we realized that we had failed to take pictures earlier in the night so I said we should get some pictures of us before all of our make-up melted off from dancing. We took a photo and the same man came running up to us and insisted that we immediately delete the photos. I looked around and realized that there was a mini show happening in the back so I explained that we didn't really care about the show, we just wanted pictures of our costumes. I get why it wouldn't be super kosher to take pictures of whatever was happening (And can I pause to say, it wasn't really all that dramatic. Jeepers. If you've read 50 shades, you've experienced something way more intense than the light flogging happening on the back stage of this club). You can take pictures at other clubs, but again, I understand why they might not be cool with it - I think there might be photo waivers involved at other clubs and this club is much more out in the open that other clubs so there is a greater chance of looky-loos and gawkers, but tourists happen in these types of clubs, it's kind of a given. I showed him the picture we had taken and that it was clearly just of us and we hadn't even gotten the show in the background. This did not matter to him, he said he wasn't going to argue and continued to insist that we delete ALL the photos we had taken there. We again complied and made our way back to the patio to take our pictures far away from the show. We took a few photos and then were informed by another employee that if security saw us taking pictures, we'd get in trouble. I was confused and said that I thought the no photos policy was related to the show that was happening inside. This was a patio and you couldn't even tell it was part of the club. He shrugged and said that nevertheless, if we were caught taking pictures we'd get in trouble. Lame. At this point, we gave up and left. I feel super bad for the goth crowd up here in Minneapolis if this is the only goth/industrial club around. It was not a friendly accepting place like other clubs I've been to. My friends and I are respectful, responsible people who were just looking for a nice place to dress up like super heroes, have some drinks, and dance the night away. Is that too much to ask? One of my favorite places to drink/dance in Minneapolis. If you were a vampire, you would definitely hang out here: dark romantic corners to people watch, industrial music, and tame SM shows on Saturday night. I wish there were more quirky places like this in MPLS. There is no website, but keep in mind the bar is cash only and there is usually a cover on Saturday night. read more

What an awful place ... They did give us our cover money back but still. We were there totally harmless and treated horribly. We thought we were in for good time until 60 year old in st. Thomas gear stopped us. We were excited to be there and spend our money ..unfortunately not any more and will not at "the front" either (same owners)... This bar used to be great. They seem to have an issue with keeping stocked on bathroom supplies however. During peak times of people being sick they don't seem to be able to keep soap on hand to refill those EMPTY soap containers. Same with paper towels and sometimes toilet paper, especially when special events happen here and everyone pays $10+ to get in. You'd think they would prepare and be well stocked on these important things. When staff were informed, it didn't seem to matter. Still no soap or paper towels. I feel that if we all have to pay to get in, we should certainly have the obvious supplies we patrons need other than booze of course! read more

I used to go here occasionally(more for concerts than dance nights) but haven't been in a few years til last night when I went for another concert. I was never much of a fan of this place and it seems little has changed. They've updated the decor a bit which is good, but unless you happen to be there for the 2 for 1's, the drinks are really expensive in my opinion. The bathrooms are dilapidated and icky, but at least there are a lot if stalls for the ladies. Apparently if you are a dude and need to poop, you better stop over at the bulldog, because the men's stalls do not have doors (what's up with that in general?). They seem to have an aversion to using their temperature control systems seeing as someone mentioned it being freezing previously and last night it was like 90 degrees in there despite it being moderately chilly outside. I even asked the door girl and she said there is AC, they just would't turn it on. In the middle of the show, even the band was talking about how nastily hot it was. I agree with a previous commenter that there doesn't appear to be any tap beers, and I couldn't tell you why, but I've never had a bartender be nice to me there. So yeah, I'm not a fan, but obviously this place does suit some people's fancy. read more

This is the only bar that plays kick ass music that I've ever been to in my life. The kinky, retro horror/BDSM clips they put on the screen along with the industrial techno music is pure heaven! That's where my praise ends. Like others have said, it's only "regulars" and I feel like they are starring me down. My friends and I have gone a couple times and although we don't look anything close to goth kids, we are nice and just there to have fun. Whenever I bring people there we spend a decent amount of money. I dunno, they just seem to go to a lot of trouble to make people feel unwelcome. It's like a weird alternate universe where they make normal people feel like freaks for being there. Even the bartenders and other employees are very cold and rude. It wouldn't matter so much if it wasn't always so dead there. Why doesn't the owner promote and advertise a little more? I don't get it. I would love for a regular to let me know what I need to do to make it more tolerable :s read more

i loved GROUND ZERO so much it was a fun nice place the upstairs was the place to be in my eyes just so wicked and fun. but i will the FRONT was a cool place as well it wasnt snowing it would of been even more fun. but i will most definitely be going back to both places read more
