Took Amtrak coming and going. So we waited at the station which was not really a station in Grover Beach.... You had to order something to use the restroom ... and didn't want to order a thing since of the poor reviews.... So in order to use the restroom we had to buy anything. So I ordered 2 White Zin's in order to use the bathroom two different times. So my bill was 30.00 for 2 glasses of wine. Wow! I was going to do a great review because of the owner and son being nice. Me and my husband stopped here to get some breakfast. I got the French Toast which comes with eggs and choice of bacon or sausage (I chose bacon) and my husband got the Chicken Fried Steak. Everything was really good (even my scrambled eggs were some of the best I ever had) except for the French toast which weirdly tasted "bland" to me. This establishment was SO good!! Oh my goodness!!! We just found one of our favorite lunch spots after church!! We are from Paso Robles and make it to Grover beach once a week. I used to come here way back in the day when I was a teenager and order grub. It's rare you can say an establishment is still "up there" and it is!! First thing we noticed was we walked in and everybody was incredibly hospitable. "Hi! Welcome in!" Seriously we felt like guests in a home. A very sweet young female working the register, a genuinely kind woman working the floor and a chef in the back hustling on food orders. At the table in the front was a young man and another very nice lady. All this comes together - this is a family owned, and operated establishment! Everybody was family, everybody was working hard, no wonder we felt like a guest in their home! The woman and young man at a table was their family stopping in to support the family business while the chef and floor runner were owners! Their daughter, the young lady at the register, was so polite and professional! Next time we visit, I'm going to take pictures of the food, it was so flavorful!! Not greasy such as some diners that serve you greasy meats, everything was superb!! The fries were thick and seasoned, our smash burger was absolutely delicious, my chicken wrap was exactly how I remembered it from years prior and our gyro wrap was better than most we've had!! This is such a sweet little gem in the heart of Grover Beach. You don't find places like this where family run it this well anymore. What a disappointment. We tried bacon avocado breakfast burritos and French toast. The bacon is just the chopped small pieces not good. Hardly any avocado. Not good at all. The best thing about it was the three tater tots in it. The French toast was dry and had burned little black pieces of stuff all over them. Not appetizing my daughter took a bite and spit it out. First time here. Waittress was really friendly. Positives for the food: Burger was hearty and fresh with everything on it. Onion rings were really good. Batter made it very crispy. Negatives: A little pricey. Burger buns were not toasted which felt disconnected with a hot beef patty. Hot dog buns also were not toasted. It looked like the cook rushed a bit. If you are looking for a quick getaway from hustle of tourists and a meal that is less than the average tourist amount in price but not in quality, then travel down the road to the Grover station grill. It is a wonderful establishment for taking a breather from tourist central of Pismo Beach. We stopped in for lunch while on vacation this week. Food was excellent and prices were very reasonable, especially for a place near the coast. And then handed me the food. I was totally disgusted. I went to get a soda I looked at the side of the countertops the wood part near the soda machine it was dirty. The menus were absolutely filthy. Get some new menus. I wanted to get my own fork. Because I didn't want him touching my utensils. I'm not trying to be mean. But I was grossed out. I hate to give a bad review but this was probably the worst Grilled Ham and Cheese sandwich I've ever had in my life. One slice of ham and one slice of cheese just on one side of the bread and cheese isn't even melted (see the picture) The quality of ham was frankly disgusting. Wow! What a great experience. We came in to celebrate Father's day with a party of 9 and were lucky to be seated Right away and I mean as soon as we walked in. I had a breakfast sandwich and it was hot. Our food came out about 10 minutes after we were seated. I was very impressed with how fast the food came out :D All in all it was a very pleasant experience. I can't say enough about a place where the food is actually hot. Came here 1 year ago and thought it was cute and funky with good roadside cafe food. Today I felt the food was not prepared well and the owners seemed like they were not that interested in being there. The place looks like it needs a makeover, but more than anything I say where's the love?! These were chatty sweet people last time I came here. I know the economy has been tough on restaurants but the guests coming to dine with you have had their own struggles. Without going into all the detail of what went wrong with food today... and there was quite a bit that was off... I say where's the love. Starving after we toured the Monarch Butterfly Grove, we came to this spot for some breakfast brunch. Clean establishment with indoor and outdoor seating, located right next to the train tracks, hence the name. Sit anywhere you like, order at counter, and they will bring your food to the table when ready. American diner fare- breakfast, wraps, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and dinner ranging from teriyaki chicken to sirloin. Ordered the station grill breakfast special - 3 eggs, I ordered 1 bacon, 2 sausage, hash browns, and English Muffin. Didn't care for the sausage- kinda odd tasting with no flavor and I left the hash browns as it was very oily and flavorless. Hubby ordered the French toast, it came with eggs and he ordered sausage as well. French toast was good but he didn't care for the sausage either. I would suggest getting bacon instead. As their website is/was broken and online orders or view of their menu was not available, my wife called from our home to Grover Station Grill at 9:12 am on 01/20/24 and ordered a breakfast burrito, loaded, cut in half as we share. Payment was made via Google Pay at 9:28 am (see pic of receipt). We entered through the back door where most of the public parking is located and were greeted by Melissa Zaferis (Wife/co-owner), I immediately noticed that a burrito was poorly wrapped in yellow paper sitting on the counter in front of the cook window. By poorly, I mean it was partially open and I could see and tell that it was a burrito. We advised Melissa that we called in an order and met her at register, at which time Melissa grabbed the burrito and handed it to me while apologizing about the paper. It wasn't a big deal for me. My wife mentioned that their website was not working to make online orders and payment, Melissa responded, "Ya, we need to get our stuff together." My wife then handed Melissa her business card as we are also a local Grover business. Melissa then made a comment regarding my t-shirt stating, "I like your shirt, but mine would say wine!" My shirt read "I like weed and maybe three people." We chuckled together and I responded, "Thank you, we all have our away from work vices." My wife then paid and we left to go eat on the beach. Sixteen minutes had passed from the time the call in order was placed to the time payment was made. Certainly not enough time for the burrito to be cold on the inside or the dryness, and certainly not enough time for us to discuss any sort of business or services. As you can see from the photo of the burrito, which is tagged Sat. Jan 20, 2024 - 9:41 am, that the quality appears to be poor. My wife managed 2 bites, I was able to choke down one bite, albeit I had added plenty of Tapatio'. The burrito was terrible, it was dry, and cold. The potatoes had the taste of freezer burn, not locally sourced or fresh, but rather store bought pre-made bagged and frozen in taste and texture. The eggs were dry while the color and texture seemed like they had been sitting out for awhile. I was unable to identify if cheese or salsa was present, however my wife claimed that there was in fact cheese, but it too seemed old. The ingredients were of such poor taste that our bulldog refused a bite. You can see the pic of the product and decide for yourself if it appears fresh or of quality ingredients. We immediately made a call to another local spot as you will see the time stamp of that receipt is at 9:53 am via Google Pay (see receipt). With our new burrito, an immediate difference was noticed as it was to hot to touch, we made it to back to the beach, and the taste and texture along with flavor was freshly prepared. Personally I was taken back as to how Grover Station Grill would allow us to walk out their business with such poor quality, as Mr. Zaferis, or Z as he goes by was on the grill at the time. I left a 1 Star review on Google, Z responded by immediately attacking my wife, our business, and threatened to leave poor reviews. As we spoke nothing of our services we could offer them, nor was this a business function, I am amused by Mr. Zaferis unprofessionalism and lack of pride in his product. Also the fact that Mr. Zaferis is a large man standing well over 6 foot tall while my wife is lucky to be 5 foot in heels, much to the fact that I left the review, and I was confused as why I could not be addressed. I contacted Mr. Zaferis on Monday, 1/22/24 at 7:27 am, this call lasted 6 minutes and 51 seconds, and ended with Mr. Zaferis hanging up on me. During this call, Mr. Zaferis immediately was defensive and played victim. He repeatedly claimed that I was berating him as I inquired why he would commit an act of Libel and act slanderous to my wife or our business. I am a Marine Corps Veteran, I am aware of what berating is, and at no time did I berate, curse, or even raise my voice to Mr. Zaferis. I merely inquired why he would attack my wife, business, rather than myself, and why he failed to defend the poor product or even allowed us to leave with such a poor product. Pictures show a thousand words. It's a shame that this situation happened and we very much enjoy supporting our fellow local businesses. However, like all CONSUMERS, when we pay for something in support of said SMB's, we expect at the worse, decent quality. It appears that Mr. Zaferis lacks integrity, pride, and courage as clearly displayed in his response to my review and subsequent attack on my wife. To this fact, I've included detail photos and time logs. It also disappoints me that I felt the need for such detail, however, needlessly attacking my wife with libel, seems a bit "bully-ish" and/or a weak attempt at intimidation. I would not recommend Grover Station Grill due to this experience. read more
