Have been to Grumps many times, but usually in Stephenville. We came with a large group of around 45 people and the manager worked his butt off to accommodate us. The burgers have always been great, not to the gourmet level of some places, but for the cost and the atmosphere, they're pretty darn good! Love their fries and chips! Follow up a meal with a hand-dipped shake and it makes the experience even better. Kudos to the manager and his staff, again, very impressed and amazed at his abilities, just needs to slow down, a bad heart is nothing to push! Thanks, Grumps! Best hamburger I've had in over a year! Then again, I've been vegetarian for a year. I got the Swiss mushroom burger thinking it was a mushroom patty, but it was a burger with mushrooms on it. I guess I'm just not very edumicated in restaurant lingo. Still ate it and was very yummy. My parents got the queso burger and said it was "good'n'messy". The good: Peanuts, water, ambiance, fixin's & bun on the cheeseburger. The bad: Queso with hamburger chunks ruined the queso texture. Potato chips with queso was not a good combo, the chips by themselves tasted OK only because they were bathed in salt and I like salt but they looked liked a sponge that had been soaking in grease for an hour -- fries were grease soaked potato fingers and where was the cheese on my "cheese"burger. The ugly: I could almost get by with the above but the following 2 compelled me to write this review -- I had to stop eating the burger patty as I found 3 separate chunks of something (bone, grizzle, ???) that I had to spit in my napkin. Gross. The worst was the chocolate shake -- my girlfriend and I drank half of it just trying to figure out what the ??? was going on -- very little chocolate with some kind of burnt plastic aftertaste, no wait a minute, a before, during & after taste?!?!?! Throwing away half a chocolate shake is a worse tragedy than the Black Plague, polio and Battlefield Earth combined. Grumps is a hangover curer. How could it not be when you mix grease, ice cold schooners of beer and massive portions? I tried the patty melt today for the first time and I gotta say -- one of the best I've eaten. It reminded me of my mom's patty melt she made for us growing up, only on toastier bread and with grilled onions. It squished out the back of the sandwich as I inhaled bite after bite, leaving a mess of cheese, grease and crumbs behind. We also had a fried trio of onion rings, fries and fried pickles. I don't really care for their fries; I'd much rather waste my calories on the other two. Dunk 'em in ranch and you've got yourself some mother-effin' winners. I docked a star because I noticed for the first time that you can't order the burgers any other way besides medium well. I suppose this is to keep the food coming out fast and efficient, but it's a tad overcooked for me. Oh -- and I enjoy the people watching almost as much as the food. The best burger in Granbury and they have a good bit of variety. This is their original location and they have others now in Burleson, Stephenville, and Cleburne. I love any place that gives out free peanuts. I'm not a beer drinker but if I was I'd love drinking it out of one of their frozen schooners. They're really committed to making you happy and ensuring that you come back. Great location to meet with friends that are driving through town even though the parking can be challenging at times. They have everything that is grease-based...any kind of burger you can think of, and the sides to match! Fried pickles? duh. Onion rings...fries....corn nuggets...the only thing i didn't see was fried Twinkies! I partook in the Mushroom Swiss burger with mayo and I added grilled onions ( yes, this means they let you add toppings of your choice to whatever you order....grounds for worship, I know).....and it was amazing. They aren't skimpy with the beef..that patty was LARGE...add a big ole bun and generous helpings of your toppings, and you have your self a fool-proof hangover cure, my friends. My only complaint on the burger? Canned mushrooms....again, if you have the time to chop and grill fresh onions..why not mushrooms?? There must be a rule I don't know about. Uno got the patty melt and added bacon! I had a bite of this concoction.....*firm head nod* good stuff! Can I please give them 6 stars? No, well why not? I took Nikki's advice and we stopped in here on our way to the square in Granbury one H O T Saturday afternoon. From the outside it doesn't look like much, in fact you'll pass right on by if you don't know what is housed inside the red building on the side of HWY 377. The parking lot was packed, and we started to get excited as we walked in. The owner, Collier, greeted us and lead us up to the counter where you order. He suggested the handcut potato chips and we were game. They have a sort of cafeteria style seating and there weren't many spots open on a busy weekend afternoon, so we sat at the bar tops looking out a window. The staff was mostly High School girls who would stop and ask how you were doing (nothing like small town Texas hospitality!) and offer to bring you more beverages. It did take a little while to get our two burgers and chips & queso, but there is a sign that explains how everything is made fresh so sometimes it takes a while. the burgers were juicy and full of flavor, the buns were generic Mrs. Baird's, but don't let that detract. OMG the queso has meat and Rotel in it and you can feel it clogging up your arteries, but you don't care. The chips were perfect; i never realized how much I love handcut chips! Give Grumps a try next time you find yourself in Granbury. No, just make the trip on a lazy Saturday afternoon and enjoy the scenery of the drive. After being turned off about the looks of another local place, our group drove to Grumps. Watch out pulling in, their entry is pretty steep and you are bound to scrape your car. Silly us, for being in a car, instead of a truck. :) The employees were all extremely nice and friendly, offering suggestions and grabbing everyone condiments and the like. I had your basic cheeseburger and fries. Solid effort, but nothing crazy out of the ordinary. Beerita was a sugary treat. Queso burger sat well with the guys who ordered it, but be prepared for messy hands. Grumps has very good food. I went during lunch time and it was terribly busy. My wait was like an hour I think, a good 30 minutes in line and 30 minutes sitting waiting for my burger. My family traveled to Granbury from Hurst for an overnight stay. We spent time at the wonderful Lake Granbury beach with our daughters and by 6 pm we were starving and ready for dinner. We did some research and heard some good things about Grumps. My husband and I love good burgers and hoped Grumps lived up to the hype. While waiting for our food I noticed there was a large bucket of crayolas and coloring books for Grumps customers. This was great, my girls never were restless. They colored their books and shelled the complimentary peanuts that were on every table. To say this place was awesome is an UNDERSTATEMENT! I had a the smallest burger on the menu and it was delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly and it was good and juicy. My husband loves spicy food so he tried the burger with spicy bacon. He loved it and thought the spicy bacon was a great addition. My two year old is the biggest meat eater I know and she LOVED her burger. My five year old is a fan of chicken strips and she was very impressed. I sneaked a bite of her chicken and the were sooo good. We had fries, onion rings and iced tea and all three were yum!! I am very picky when it comes to onion rings and I would definitely order again. Great food, great place!! Yummy bacon cheese burger, classic french fries, and a perfect Blue Bell Cookies n Cream shake (to go) to finish it off. The jalapeno infused bacon was a nice twist. We will definitely return when we are in the Granbury area to try some of the other burgers on the menu. Honestly do not see why this place is soo hyped. I mean I guess when you don't have many options it's good. You walk in and it's good a good rustic vibe. We ordered fried jalapeños with ranch, fries, bacon burger, plain burger, and a cookies and cream milkshake. The jalapeños were good but nothing really special, it was canned pickles with a corn meal breading. The fries were probably the best thing from there I had. The burger was disappointing. The meat looked like frozen patties that have been thawed, over cooked and dry. The bun was not good either, they toasted it but when they put the lettuce and tomatoes and pickles on it, it became a big soggy mess. The cookies and cream milkshake was just standard. I'm from Granbury. And I spent at least the first fifteen years of my life without a decent burger place. Then Grumps came along. And it was love. Unfortunately, my Nazi parents were more concerned with eating celery sticks and going to places with "healthy" food options, then having my dad subsequently get a chicken fried steak or the chicken fried chicken when we ended up at Montana's. So during that time, I placed the sacred Grumps burger on a greasy pedestal. I don't think anything could have lived up to that. Don't get me wrong, it's Granbury's best. There is better out there though. You just have to escape Granbury first. read more
