I haven't been to this restaurant location in 30 years. What got us out of the house last night was the fact that Lenora Jaye was singing with the band that was performing. I'm glad we went. Grumpy's is a casual place with a big bar, two dining areas and stage. We loved our food. I had the tuna poke appetizer and a grouper Reuben sandwich. Excellent! My wife had a chicken sandwich and side Caesar salad which received her approval (which ain't easy). The band was wonderful to listen to as we ate in the front dining area. Grumpy's seems to have something going on almost every night. Open Mike night on Wednesdays hosted by my friend Peggy Silvestri. Some kind of poker night. Other musical entertainment. Very fun. They also have Grumpy hour drink specials until 6:00 pm, which is probably more happy than grumpy, but I love the name. We already plan to go back again soon. Grumpy Gary's was a favorite hangout on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. We spent countless afternoons and evenings hanging out, having drinks and people watching. We had some time to kill before our flight, so we finally stopped to check out the new location. The first thing I noticed was the overall vibe was completely different. The HB location was so open and airy, where this location felt pieced together and disjointed. One thing that remains the same is the incredibly friendly staff! Our bartender even mentioned recognizing us from the former location. I was hoping that they still offered the cheese steak egg rolls, but they do not. So i settled for a couple margaritas. They were well made and much better than the what's offered at the airport bars. I'm glad that Grumpy's is still around and I'm sure I'll stop back again. But I would love to see them back in Hollywood Beach. read more

We miss when Grumpy Gary's was on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk and hadn't had a chance to visit since they relocated to Dania Beach. But on our last recent trip to the area, we found ourselves with some time to burn before heading to FLL. This was the perfect spot to post up since it's literally right outside of the airport grounds. We ordered a blackberry margarita and a coconut mojito. Both drinks were well made. We ordered the mahi sandwich with tater tots to avoid paying for overpriced airport food. The mahi was nicely seasoned and I enjoyed the tarter sauce. Service: very fast and kind service. They got our orders perfect as they should and they were very nice. Food: I got the soup of the day which was a shrimp soup, and I got the fish and chips. The soup was very good and warm. I got that soup with crackers in it and I also got fish and chips which was so delicious I loved it so much. The fish melted in my mouth with a savory flavor with the tartar sauce it was so good. The lemonade was fine and overall the food I really enjoyed. This is a nice little restaurant on near the boats with happy hour daily and daily food specials! We went on burger night and it was $5 burgers with music bingo to play as well. Can't beat the prices! Bartender/waitress was not the nicest and service was slow due to having to do both the bar and tables but would still recommend checking out. read more

Used to come here when it was dockers so I'm glad Grumpy Gary's took it over. It's too close and convenient to the airport to not have something. Had the fish and chips but asked for crispy tots instead of fries and that was perfect!!! Grabbed a few drinks and was entertained by the bartender who just got back from a cruise. She mentioned they have live music fairly often and that would make it even better. I'm glad we sat at the bar we heard some grumbling from other wait staff about their tables etc so not sure they were as friendly as the bartender but hey it is Grumpy Gray's right? This was a fairly decent restaurant that we visited prior to our cruise departure. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. The food was very good, but I was disappointed by the portions of the food on the sampler platter for the price it was (cannot recall the correct name of the menu item). While the live musicians were good and talented, it was very loud and hard to have a conversation, despite being in the back of the restaurant. If you are staying nearby, I would definitely consider a visit. read more

First time I've been in since it became Grumpy Gary's, pretty solid. We stopped in after some good golf last Sunday. It wasn't busy, we had the bar to ourselves around 1pm. There were a few groups outside, we may have to trice that spot next time. It was nice to sit down at a bar I had visited many times in the last, but it had been years. They had cleaned up the place plenty. The pool room was now a dining room. The beat up walls and floors were all sharp looking. And that aroma the place had was long gone. It was just nice all around. I hadn't planned to eat but the gal working dropped off menus and explained some of the popular dishes and specials. Although Seafood would have been the right call for their menu I went a Philly Steak. After a drink I headed home with my lunch. It was excellent. We got into Ft Lauderdale pretty late and hadn't eaten. We were staying close to Grumpy Gary's so we walked over to grab some food. It took a while before we were greeted and seated. We sat right on the water which was nice (even though it was dark out). It was a Friday night and they had awesome LIVE music. The food was meh. Smallest fish taco I have ever seen. The chef, Daniel, was amazing! He was met with three of us Marylanders who were skeptical of the Maryland crab cakes. So, he brought us a sample. We gave him our feedback and he brought us another sample - amazing!! He did such a great job of listening to us and made an amazing crabcake! And our bartender, Suzanne, was so friendly too! We spent the weekend in Hollywood and decided to grab lunch before heading back across the state. No one could decide so when we saw Grumpy Gary's we decided to stop and try it out. It sit beside the boat docks so there were plenty of boats for our little grandson to see. We got there not too long after opening so we were the second to be seated and got a nice corner table. We ordered potato skins for an appetizer and they came out very quickly. We all enjoyed one and they were good! A couple of us ordered the grumpy Gary burger and I have to say that it was a really great burger! It had two onion rings on top of the cheese and I got the Horsy sauce on the side but really liked it and dipped every bit in it! The tater tots were crispy on the outside and great inside! Live music starts at noon but she was a little later that day so we only heard a small amount. Our server was great and attentive and kept our cups filled! read more

Got lucky and ended up at a hotel almost next door. Saw ratings were good so gave it a shot. Server was very nice but pretty busy chatting with staff. Grumpy Gary's is bigger inside than you would think. It has excellent right out-front handicapped parking but being located on Federal Highway can present problems backing up or getting out if the traffic is heavy. It has a great bar with a good seating capacity and reasonable prices with friendly service. To me, the menu is rather bar food oriented with its pub pretzels, tacos, potato skins, and the like. But they do have decent entrees of Mahi Mahi and especially what I had of a marinated flank steak that came perfectly done as ordered. It was tasty, and for a flank steak, really tender. The best part of dining at Grumpy Gary's is the view of the marina which you sort of look down upon. It gives you a peaceful feeling and lends itself to a good dining atmosphere. read more

A large group of us visited in a Sunday early evening. We were quickly seated in the area with a view of the marina and there were only 4 other parties there the entire time we were there. Our waitress was nice but it seemed she was frazzled and not able to handle the 4 parties. Maybe the kitchen was messing her up but the overall experience was a general miss. We ordered a variety of appetizers and drinks which all came out together except one drink that was forgotten. Dinner was much messier. We had a few sandwiches, pastas and quesadilla. All the sandwiches came out and pastas were delayed. Ok, that's fine but delayed meant people eating sandwiches and burgers were done by the time the pasta was delivered. Then the quesadilla was forgotten again so our youngest dinner had to snack on tastes of everyone else's meal until hers came and by that time she wasn't hungry anymore. Waitress was apologetic and didn't charge us for it at least. Might be a spot for some live music and a drink but not for dinner. read more

The ambiance is weird. When you first walk in it gives dirty diner vibes. The appetizers we ordered were fish dip and calamari. The calamari was oily and the batter wasn't sticking to the fish. The fish dip was the highlight of the meal, very flavorful and soft pita comes with it but way too much celery. The main meals were pretty awful. The chicken Alfredo has ZERO flavor and the same with the shrimp scampi. We had to add salt to give it any flavor. My fish and chips was completely inedible. The fish fell away from the batter and that was disappointing. The fries were moist and floppy with no seasoning. My husband got the fish Reuben sandwich and it was actually pretty tasty because of the thousand island. His tator tots were pretty yummy. Overall, the service was nice and polite but very very slow!! I won't be back ever. Don't recommend this place at all. read more

We have passed by Grumpy Gary's multiple times and when your husband's name is Gary you kinda have to eat there at least once. The parking lot is rather weird. When we arrived I was excited that the handicapped parking was open and right by the door. It made it crossing over US1 rather easy. I didn't anticipate how difficult it would be to exit since there was no way for me to back into the spot. When leaving we were lucky the parking lot wasn't full as I was able to maneuver through the parking lot to be able to exit. When we walked in we did not anticipate the space to be as big as it was. You enter into the bar and when you walk through there is a large dining area. We liked how the tables were nicely spaced. We took a table by the window. Not a lot to look at other than the boats but it was a nice spot. We started with potato skins. We ordered them with bacon on the side since only my husband eats bacon. When the first order came they had bacon on them. The server noticed it as she was about to place it on the table. She quickly brought them back to the kitchen and they remade them. They were good. They weren't empty fried skins, but had some potato in them & the potato was creamy and added a nice texture to it. I had the dolphin sandwich. It was very thin and while it made the sandwich look bigger the thinness of the fish made it dry and harder to eat. The fish and the fries were both lukewarm. As if my food was sitting due to the remade potato skins. My daughter has the Asian salmon with macaroni & cheese and tater tots. The mac & cheese came out before her meal and was very good. It was hot and tasty. My daughter enjoyed her salmon. My husband had a club sandwich with onion rings. To me the onion rings were also lukewarm. The restaurant was clean. Service was very good and friendly. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish. Next time I would definitely order the mac & cheese. read more

This place is extremely local. You'll have a neon over your head "new here" when you walk in and you'll feel it as the locals take inventory of the new people. Friendly and fast service sans one grumpy bartender with jealous eyes and heavy eyeshadow. I had the skirt steak and it was scrumptious! Italian wedding soup, side salad and rice was plenty for a full meal. Add a couple Guinness beers to the tab and some killer Fl Swamp Cat live music jammin band and you've got a great place to kill a couple hours before or between flights. Such a delicious find! Close to the Fort Lauderdale airport and by the water. Thursday night is ladies night! We loved the ahi tuna salad, with a really nice ginger dressing. 6 of us went for lunch on a Sunday. We were staying at Le Meridien, it is a mile away. It is all indoors with a/c and is on a marina with windows. Only one waitress for dining room, she was nice but had a hard time keeping up. Food was bar food mostly with a large burger selection, hummus plate for our vegan friend, large salads with protein add ons (grouper!!), fish & chips is fried when ordered. Grumpy Gary's certainly did not live up to its name, because the service was friendly and the atmosphere was laid back and fun! We walked in to a mix of 1980s rock and promptly sat ourselves at a window table overlooking the dock. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi, and was not disappointed. The seasoning added the perfect amount of spice. However, the garlic parmesan fries were very garlicky, and the potato skins were dry. Overall though, we enjoyed our meal and watching the birds on the dock. read more

Just off our cruise and staying at nearby hotel. Looking for somewhere to eat close by and decided to try out Grumpy's. The restaurant was nice inside and we were greeted by friendly staff. Quickly seated and waited on. The food was great as well as the service! Our group of seven got to listen to solo guitarist and enjoy our stay over!
