Went to Casa Machado with a friend tonight for dinner. I haven't been in years. It is right by Mongomery Field. The good: plenty of parking, friendly service, clean dining room, free chips and salsa. The bad: food was pretty mediocre and bland. The enchilada sauce was blah with no flavor. The ground beef filling in my enchilada was filled with mixed vegetables. The shredded beef in my burrito was kind of sweet which is odd. Overall the combinations weren't expensive at $18.95, but the food lacked flavor and they didn't offer extra hot sauce or salsa on the table. I got the burrito and enchilada combo and my friend got 2 enchiladas. They look almost the same. read more

Casa Machado has the Mexican food we were craving. Sometimes you just want to have the food you've called Mexican even though it may not be considered authentic these days. It is hard to find a good chili rellano and they have one that is delicious. The enchilada suizas were filled with chicken and the sauce was delicious. The chili rellano and enchilada combo was also great. Their rice, beans, salsa and hot carrots all add to the deliciousness factor. Our server was friendly, efficient and the food came out quickly and was piping hot. It's always fun to watch the planes at Montgomery Field as well. read more

The cheese enchiladas were great (although I prefer more sauce); the beef taquitos were crunch and tasty; the beans and rice were fresh; and salsa/chips were unlimited and warm! Casa Machado holds a special place for me. Years ago, a friend flew me in and we made a stop here--at the time, I didn't even realize where we were, just that it was his favorite spot. Recently, while searching for restaurants near airports, I came across it again and instantly knew this was the place I had been craving to return to. I'm so glad I did. The food tasted just as great as I remembered, and the experience is truly unique. Watching planes land and take off right by your table is something special--it almost feels like you're part of a community of passionate aviators. This is a hole in the wall restaurant that you wouldn't even know it's there unless someone told you! Got the mole enchiladas and it was really good! The mole sauce was rich and had a good kick of adobo in it, so if you don't like smoky chocolate flavors, probably avoid this one. They give chips and salsa for the table and their verde salsa is delicious! Will definitely come back for another round of enchiladas. read more

It's interesting to see a restaurant located at this small local airport where private jets land and take off. I had the carne asada burrito that thought it was pretty good. Complimentary chips and salsa were provided, but I thought the salsas were a bit bland. I normally do not like salty food at all, so for me to say that it's bland is quite unusual. For a Starter we ordered The Sample Plate loaded with Flantas, Taquitos, Nachos, Cheese Quesadillas, and Guacamole & Sour Cream on the side. Pricy but Tasty and a large Serving for the money. For our Main Dishes Loretta ordered The #2 1 Chili Relleno Plate Combo. Very Tasty but needed a bigger pepper and more Cheese inside. Good Coating and cooked well and Great Flavor. I ordered The #16 Combo Plate. Birria Taco and Pork Tamale. The Birria Taco was nice with moist tender shredded beef. Could have used more seasoning especially salt. The Pork Tamale was very good with a tasty filling and moist masa. Beans were excellent and the rice was tasty too. All in all I would come back to try more of their menu. Service is great and the lunch menu pricing is good value. You get fresh tortilla chips at the table and their cocktails are really good. There are booths facing the airport, a large windowed patio and a bar in the center. This spot is special due to its unique ability to create some amazing memories over time as the experience is consistent over a long period of time. This place had been a go to place for my family for decades! The Sunday brunch has always been great. Last Saturday night we went for dinner. I hadn't been here in many years for dinner. I was surprised that they close at 9:00 PM and the latest reservation they would take was at 7:00 PM! On a Saturday night...No Bueno!! I ordered my staple dish, Chile Verde, which I can usually gauge a quality of a Mexican restaurant off of. Unfortunately, the Chile Verde at this place way under-delivered! It was bland with absolutely no heat! I even tried adding their green and red salsa to it, but still couldn't get much flavor or heat out of it. A total disappointment. I would give the place a 1, but the other dishes we ordered were between a 3-4 quality; plus I really like the location and vibe of this place. Unfortunately, because of their hours the place was mostly empty. The owners need to get their act together, clean the place up a bit and instead of just increasing their prices, which are already high, they need to increase their hours; at least on weekends. read more

Our little group has been coming here for years and this last trip we were celebrating a birthday and split the bill 5 ways. It was a rather lengthy bill, what with all the margaritas we all paid our share and tip and went on our merry way. A week later we discovered one of us had been charged double the amount than the other 4. Not knowing how that could have happened on a table showing on the receipt that it was split 5 ways. Upon calling they stated that 2 entrees were left off the others, so they arbitrarily tacked it on to one card. That sucks. It's not our fault they messed up and then didn't even bother to mention it to us. That was their explanation and done. 3.5 stars is more accurate. The location, ample parking, and the people working there... push it more towards 4 than 3 stars, so I'm good with that. If its night, we're usually on the bar side. Drinks are good, nothing fancy. And we usually stick with simple tacos or burritos, cause it just works when you're drinking! Breakfast is good, but I'd advise sticking with the Mexican dishes. Ordered steak and eggs once, and they asked for the doneness of the steak. Since its not a steakhouse, I said rare because most non-steakhouses in the 4 star-under category will usually overcook a bit. When it came out, doneness didn't even matter. The skirt steak was flattened out to the thickness of saran wrap, I was like... why even ask?! Lol Nothin' tender was happening with that.. But brunch with bottomless mimosas is always a trip, especially if you get window side and just watch the planes take off. Which they have minis hanging from the ceiling staying with the aviation motif, with added typical Mexican flair. The place overall looks fairly outdated, could use some updates but keep the same ambiance. Overall, still a nice little nook of a restaurant. Not asking too much, good mid-level restaurant. But prices have gone up a bit, and may continue the upward trend with a bunch of high rise condos being built nearby. If prices hike too much, then they may price themselves out of the level of quality they provide. But it is locally and family owned, so will continue to support as I can. read more

Been here many times. The food here is fantastic. My personal favorite is the Pollo Mole. The service is always great here and the food comes out of the kitchen quickly. Small business, there is no shortage of delicious food here and the regulars know it! Located upstairs they have a large dining room, booths by the bar and a covered patio dining area. The staff is super friendly and the margaritas are reasonably priced! All good over here! My hubs has his favorite cheese enchiladas. I've tried their carnitas plate and chicken mole enchiladas. But what we keep coming back for is the mixed chicken and steak fajitas! We absolutely love love love their fajitas! Consistently delicious never fail best fajitas! Plenty of parking. The restaurant was located in an unexpected area, within the Montgomery Gibbs Executive airport. There was plenty of parking and it felt secluded which was nice. Despite having dinner on a Saturday evening, they weren't insanely busy either. Immediately, we liked the decor and the relaxed atmosphere. Most of the staff, with the exception of our waitress, could have been friendlier. I ordered their Chile Rellenos plate with rice and beans as well as their margarita flight. I appreciated that they cleaned out the seeds in the chiles. The seeds are time consuming to remove, but it makes a huge difference in the overall quality and pleasantness of the dish. I also liked the flavor of the cheese used in the chiles. The rice and beans were perfectly cooked and flavorful. The margaritas were served on an airplane shaped board which was a cute concept given their location, but not ideal for the table. The board takes up too much space and the drinks weren't very stable. The margaritas were unfortunately mediocre. The flavors I chose were mango, strawberry and tamarindo. The strawberry was noticeably made with just fruit juice, the mango was too sweet and the tamarindo was hardly discernible. The drinks had a nice kick though. We also ordered their chicken mole entree and it probably was the worst mole dish I've had. It lacked depth in flavor and it was entirely too sweet. It didn't have any heat to contrast with the sweetness. My daughter ordered their bean and cheese burrito with a side of fries. She enjoyed her dish. The only complaint she had was that the beans overflowed out of the burrito which made it messy to eat. We paid approximately $350 (including tip) for 7 people. Their prices were reasonable and despite some misses, I would return to sample other dishes. read more

Tacos Tuesday mini tacos special I would definitely recommend which is what I ordered, but my friends ordered the carnitas in green salsa and just thought it was okay not great. The decorations at the entrance of air plane photos were pretty cool, but the out door patio is too plain comparing to the rest of the restaurant. I felt like I was sitting in a cafeteria didn't feel Mexican to me needs color and decorations. They have a great happy hour from 3pm-7pm. I like that they allow you to mix the mini tacos. I ordered pork carnitas, carne asada, adobada and birria. They were delicious!! Service was okay not great! I was the first one to place my food order and was the last one to get my food. I think they forgot to place my order. They also forgot the tortillas for one of the dishes and my friend was almost done with her meal. I definitely wouldn't drive all the way from east Chula Vista to dine here not worth it as there are many great restaurant selections near me.
