I really want to give it a higher rating but, consistency! This is my third time going to Guapo's and the lack of consistency makes me wonder what I'm going to get each time- service and food-wise. Service was actually pretty prompt, despite the restaurant being crowded. My issue is the servers in the blue, from my experience, I assume the servers in the white is your "main server", taking your order, etc. then you have the waiters in blue who pretty much takes away the dishes, refills your chips and salsa. My issue was this particular time, the "blue" waitress was too proactive in taking away my plates, even though I was still eating. Another time, I had to try and find someone to refill the chips/clear the plates. Food-wise, it's usually fresh and if you order the typical entree such as fajitas, enchilada, chimichanga, etc., flavors are typically what you would expect. I've had a lot of good experience with their specials of the day but this time, I ordered from their usual menu, the Molcajete. While the meats were tasty, the sauce was way too salty and my brother actually commented that his taco that he ordered was way too salty as well. I'd recommend to stick with the common entrees and if the special sounds good that day, I'd recommend to go for that. Their mangonada is delicious and I always get a horchata with my meal and it never disappoints! Oh this is a happy place! Is it as authentic central and South American food in the world? No but it certainly is delicious! Last night back again, and exemplary service by I want to say Suri at the bar. She was at the Tenleytown location prior, but she did a great job. My coworkers and I had a lot of fun bar side this time. The televisions are up so you can watch football, and enjoy one of the most tasty margaritas you can imagine. That one in the picture was top notch. We went with tacos, refried beans, and yucca last night. I think the steaks are the best, but this was also a good combination. Prices for steaks are high, but a lot of this is inflation. All restaurants are trying simply to endure this also. Guapos of Merrifield/Mosaic could be an official hang out soon. It's a good place to dine with a lady too. Clean, organized, and well done. I'll definitely be back as this is what was needed here. read more

First-ever Guapos visit and we were really impressed with the new Merrifield location! The interior is modern and colorful. Lots of space, and though they were PACKED, we were still seated right away. We went on a Friday night at around 8:30 (so a bit after the usual dinner time) and they were still packed, which I think shows how popular it is. They're open until Midnight on Fridays and Saturdays which is a much-needed late-night addition to the area. Service was fast, attentive, and friendly. For food, we started with the Gaupomole (get it) which is a HUGE serving that could easily be shared by a whole table - but we came hungry, and managed to finish it between the two of us. We then shared the chicken/steak fajita combo, and were both impressed by the quality of the meat. I think the serving could have been slightly bigger for the money, but that was my only complaint of the night. Drinks were spot on - I got the spicy marg (excellent) and the Paloma (good but not really a Paloma; I think others would really like it even though it was a tad too sweet for me) and my wife got a few of the house margs, which were very good as well. This may be a tex-mex style chain with typical options, but it's executed really well. I think I know where I'm going on fridays going forward! read more

To have received eight abnormally sized pieces of nachos with cheese that peeled off like a sticker, a spoonful of guac, sour cream, and a few crumbs of diced tomatoes, I was utterly disappointed. This was a true dishonor to Mexican heritage. Nonetheless, the skimpy nachos were demolished. All else: The restaurant is usually so packed it makes me realize overpopulation is truly an issue. The atmosphere is nice, there's plenty of tv screens to distract you from the fact that you and your partner are on the verge of divorce and that your kids not all that bright. The chicken fajita came with so much food that I could probably just get that for the next three meals the service was beyond amazing. It was so good. They literally picked up things right away and they were so on top of it and they were super friendly. Of the el arriero ny steak, lomo saltado, and molcajete ... the steak and molcajete win. Sadly the lomo saltado, while quite decent, doesn't hold a candle to Super Chicken in Tysons. Ok but here's the important bit: THE CHIPS. The chips are great. Not only are they thin and crispy, they're well salted AND served with both WARM and COLD salsas. I never thought anyone would do as well as Uncle Julios for chips, but ... well, Guapos does. Service: Ironically we've been twice and we had the same server both times. And she was excellent. Super friendly, quick with requests, and checked in frequently. Not only that, they clearly operate as a team and several folks came by during the meal to ensure drinks were filled, napkins were in order ... and shockingly, as we were wrapping up, someone wiped the crumbs off the table. I mean that's a white-tablecloth steakhouse thing... right? Apparently it's a Guapos thing too. Ambiance: Fun to hip. The first time we were there was opening week and the live band was both entertaining and, uh, loud. Look, we're fogies, we complain about this err ... stuff. The second time we went it was much quieter and we were able to enjoy our meals AND our conversation. The decor is pretty great, the table arrangement spacious, and the place was packed, nevertheless. I'll close out with parking. I visited recently during happy hour with my family. We had a nice meal with happy hour drink specials and appetizers, especially the wonderful pork belly ceviche and the street tacos. My frozen mango margarita was good and pretty strong. After happy hour, I had a shrimp dish that was good but for $15 I expected more than four shrimp! However the chicken quesadillas were big, filling, reasonably priced and very tasty. Food and drink were reasonably priced overall and the service was very good and whenever we needed a drink refill or to order more food. My company spent hundreds of dollars ordering from this restaurant today. On the delivery, they did not include a requested plant based meal. Our HR rep called to get the item we ordered and paid for delivered and the restaurant told her they were too busy to deliver it and the employee would have to do without. It was ordered on the bill, it was not delivered, and the restaurants response was...oh well! This place opened up a few months ago and it's been a hit! It's always busy if you want to get a table (well to be fair only been there on Friday or Saturday nights). Food is excellent, an my go to is the steak fajitas. The burritos are amazing as well, I'm giving 4 stars as there's somewhat of a disorganized feeling that they want to just get you out. My family's been visiting other Guapo's locations for years, so we were thrilled when one opened ten minutes away from us! We visited on the official opening day and enjoyed it so much we returned for Christmas dinner. The dining area feels open, the decor is just the right amount of modern, and the food is fantastic. The staff was great, especially considering it's a new location! Normally the first few months after opening are a little chaotic but from our perspective everything was running smoothly. Supremely awful nachos-- wow. When I can't make a decision, I usually opt for nachos since you get a little bit of everything for one price (cheese, beans, guac, etc), but these were trash. The cheese wasn't fully melted over, at MOST, a teaspoon of beans. That being said (you've been warned), I love the decor of the place. Very cute and vibrant, and super happy they have booths. The chips and salsas are fantastic, the Cokes are flat and watery and sad (I'm not a drinker, but maybe opt for a special drink over a fountain soda). They offer Mexican Coke and other drinks (Jarritos? I don't remember), but I personally prefer a fountain soda if possible. The brunch is fantastic and so fun. I don't know what was happening the day we went, but service was painful. Painful but very friendly. Maybe still working out the kinks, but our meal was twice as long as we anticipated, just waiting for things... We had waffles and French toast and omelettes-- all the things-- and they were all really good. Lots of fun sauces and flavors. A real treat. Regarding what I like most about this Guapo's, the serving sizes are North American-sized and generously sized. I can specifically recommend the following dishes: Huevos Ranchero, Chilaquiles, Fresh Guacamole with Jalapeño on the side, and Waffles. Parking is wide open in the morning because the restaurant is so new. Service is ultra-attentive and prompt. The ambiance has an authentic flair especially with the wall coverings, tables, and interior design. This restaurant is a excellent value for the money and very family friendly. I recommend bringing one's family to this restaurant. One cannot miss this restaurant's uniquely painted exterior while driving on Arlington Blvd. westbound. What I think could be taken to the next level: The Huevos Ranchero used corn tortilla taco shells combined with ground beef combined together to be a lot saltier than I bargained for. The Chilaquiles was also saltier than I was expecting. I recommend minimizing the salt if certain customer-selected ingredients already include a lot of salt or dialing back the effect with potatoes to absorb the sodium load. Overall, I look forward to bringing my friends to this amazing Mexican restaurant as I feel it exceeded my expectations. read more
