Sam was phenomenal as a bartender. Matthew was cordial and accommodating as a waiter. The rest of the staff we encountered was pleasant and polite. There were so many choices. This place is almost certainly better than our experience. But I can only review the visit I had, so consider this a provisional review--one I hope to update after giving Nue another try. The evening started with parking at the Foundry Row garage in the building next to the restaurant. It isn't free, and paying for it involves something of a gauntlet of QR codes, authorization numbers, and, as I recall, an app. You scan something when you enter the garage, get an authorization code at the restaurant, and then enter that--along with your license plate number--to pay for parking. None of this is Nue's fault, of course, but it is something customers should be prepared to deal with. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were told that our table was being cleaned and would be ready in two or three minutes. Forty-five minutes later, after standing in the crowded bar the entire time, we were finally seated. We asked several staff members why things were so backed up. The best explanation we got was that the restaurant was trying out a new all-you-can-eat option and was still working out the kinks. Hold that thought. The all-you-can-eat experiment is going to come up again. A waiter appeared a few minutes after we were seated, and I ordered a Wood Dragon--the closest thing on the cocktail menu to a Manhattan--and the Imperial Wagyu Zabuton. My drink arrived about 30 minutes later. It was actually very good: nicely balanced, with layers of flavor, and a very credible variation on a Manhattan. Except... As I sipped it while waiting for my food, I noticed it was becoming watered down much faster than I would have expected. It was almost as though the large ice cube hadn't been cold enough to begin with, or the finished drink had been sitting around for a while before it reached me. Either explanation would be consistent with a restaurant struggling with the unexpected demands of a new all-you-can-eat program. By the time my dinner arrived, what had started as a very good cocktail had become a glass of brownish, Manhattan-flavored water. The Wagyu was OK, but it had some issues. The dish was at its best when I combined pieces of beef with the squash and not-at-all-spicy peppers. Together, they produced a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. Unfortunately, my plate contained only two small pieces of squash and three small pieces of pepper. The portion of beef also seemed smaller than what was pictured on the menu but still more than could be accommodated by the other elements. That meant that much of my dinner consisted simply of pieces of admittedly tasty--but somewhat fatty, even for Wagyu--beef. It was still good. It was also a little boring. Again, I'm inclined to attribute the shortcomings to the strain of the new all-you-can-eat program, or perhaps to the now-late hour and a kitchen trying to wind things down. One definite positive was the staff. Setting aside the substantial delays, everyone we dealt with was pleasant and helpful. One of the managers even stopped by our table to apologize for the wait. It was especially nice that everyone was so nice because, with a MANDATORY 20% service fee, they really didn't have to be. The manager also mentioned that Nue is working to expand into the space next door to increase its seating capacity. My concern is that unless the kitchen expands along with the dining room, adding more customers clamoring for food may not solve the problems we experienced. My recommendation to you is to do what we're going to do: give Nue a little time to work out the kinks, then try it (again). There was enough good food and enough promise here that I'm not ready to judge the restaurant based on one unusually chaotic night. There is one exception. If you--and everyone you're dining with--have HUGE appetites, you may want to go right now and order the all-you-can-eat option. For the entire time we were at our table, a young (and surprisingly svelte) couple at the table next to us received an apparently endless parade of plates heaped with all manner of delicious-looking food. Multiple times when you try to modernize a traditional dish or a cuisine it can go terribly wrong, that is not the case with NUE. This seems to be a new sad trend :( There was a waiting area with tiny cocktail tables and I was able to sit there and someone eventually took my drink order. We over ordered food but I couldn't stop myself. Of course I had been dreaming of the crispy whole fish all day long. Came here late on a Friday night with reservations for 2 at the bar (so we could get happy hour drink deals)! The interior was beautiful and service was amazing throughout the night. Bartenders were so friendly and everyone was extremely attentive. We ordered the chili oil wontons, Bo Kho Pappardelle, and Cripsy Xoi Ga. The Xoi Ga was the most flavorful, crispiest fried chicken I've had in a while, and was absolutely delicious. Both dishes had huge portion sizes and filled us up completely with leftovers. Awesome restaurant-- great service, cocktails, and food flavors. I have dishes that I think are top notch and different and then there also the ones you think are going to be 5-stars but are duds. Favs and must try -- seafood cha gao is delicious with the combination of lettuce wrap, basil, mint. It's a perfect bite flavor wise. The green papaya seafood salad is also good but not as Caesar-ey as I wish. But again, still yummy! Coconut curry risotto is a delicious new take on risotto. This has a lot of flavor and is cooked perfectly. Lobster garlic noodles-- no complaints here, it's delicious! Meh dishes-- chili wontons are nothing special, and the short rib paparadelle wasn't good IMO. Parking isn't the best but I usually find a spot in the garage and the restaurant has a discount code so don't pay for the parking until you get into the restaurant and use the discount code at the host stand. Came here last month on a Friday night for dinner--we opted for bar seating. The place was popping--energetic vibes, and overall cute decor! After looking over the menu, it seems like this is more of a Viet-fusion type of place. Started off with the Chili Oil Wontons, Seafood Chả Giò and Crispy Brussel Sprouts--the cha gio had too much taro in them and weren't as crispy as I preferred, wontons were delicious, and Brussel sprouts were interesting, mixed with persimmon and lychee. For entrees, the Bún Cá Nướng and Bò Kho Pappardelle were both huge portions and well flavored dishes! Loved sitting at the bar because we got to see a lot of their beautiful drink creations--tried the Gold Dragon, Water Horse and Lychee Sunset Fizz. This was one of the best meals I had, and I genuinely find myself thinking about Nue randomly. I was looking to find a restaurant to celebrate my fiance and I's anniversary and luckily was able to snag a late night reservation for Nue! We had the best time at this restaurant. Once we were seated, our waiter was so attentive to us. He also gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. My favorite entrees were the Vegetarian Chả Giò and the Vietnamese Udon. This restaurant does such a great job of creating Vietnamese fusion food. Their drinks were also amazing! The Cầu Vàng Sour was the highlight of the entire meal. I loved it! Our waiter knew it was our anniversary and he gave us a dessert for free :,) On top of that, the restaurant was testing out a new drink and they gave us one for free to try out! The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, perfectly reflecting the elegance and creativity of the dishes on the menu. The service was stellar attentive without being overbearing and the staff provided fantastic recommendations that truly enhanced the experience. We visited during Winter Restaurant Week and enjoyed a four-course menu. I started with the green papaya Caesar salad, which was fresh, crisp, and perfectly balanced. Next was the Seafood Cha Giò, and it was so delicious I immediately wished I had more. For my main course, I ordered the Bò Kho Pappardelle, which was an ideal portion and featured a tender, flavorful braised short rib ragu. We also ordered cocktails, and they were just as impressive as the food not only delicious but beautifully presented. Lots to like at Nue! Here I experienced the best service ever anywhere on New Year's Eve. The well-dressed staff were welcoming and ultra-professional, lending to a polished and chic ambience. Even though there was a slight snafu (which was not necessarily the restaurant's fault) regarding our reservation, they were able to quickly and generously resolve the situation. Most of the dishes we ordered and shared amongst the four of us were well-prepared. Drinks were creative, tasty and attractively presented. Nue was pricey, so it's kinda a special occasion place. The best dishes were the yellowtail hamashi and chili oil wontons. They were outstandingly delicious! The shrimp croquettes with yucca fries were very good. Loved the dipping sauce that came with them. The Brussel sprouts were also very good. The udon noodles with chicken were interesting. I thought udon would be a kind of soup, but at Nue it was udon noodles on a plate slathered with a basil pesto sauce and sliced chicken. Overall, it was a good dish. The grilled oysters were okay. I thought the fennel salad was disappointing. It looked like a shaggy haystack and was cluttered with too many ingredients and flavors. For dessert, we ordered the sponge cake and the Yuca cake with ice cream. The sponge cake was great and the Yuka cake was very good though I thought the ice cream was a tad salty. Visited NUE to celebrate Lunar New Year with a friend and WOW... what a fantastic choice that turned out to be. First off, the restaurant itself is beautiful. Not in an over-the-top, trying-too-hard way -- just effortlessly stylish, warm, and inviting. You walk in and immediately feel like you're about to have a great night. Cocktails were a major highlight. These were the kind of drinks where you take a sip and instantly look at your friend like "okay... this is serious." The Water Horse and the Nurture were both outstanding -- perfectly balanced and dangerously easy to keep ordering. We went a little wild with appetizers (zero regrets). The Scallop Banh Beo was one of those perfect bites that makes you pause for a second. The Pho Pate chicken liver mousse with crullers? Ridiculously good. Rich, smooth, completely indulgent. And the grilled oysters with ranch vinaigrette absolutely stole the show. Packed with flavor and easily one of those dishes you end up talking about long after dinner. For entrées we shared the Imperial Thit Kaho Berkshire pork chop and the Imperial Wagyu Zabuton, and honestly, both were phenomenal. tl;dr: A delightful take on Vietnamese classics with a beautifully adorned interior. I've been wanting to go to NUE for the longest time after seeing their various accolades in local magazines. I recently stopped by during the Falls Church Restaurant Week where I tried their prix fixe menu. I started by trying two of their nonalcoholic drinks-- the Sparkling Hibiscus and the Basil Mint Limeade. The hibiscus drink had beautiful layers and was perfectly sweet. The limeade was so refreshing as well. For the appetizers, I ordered chili oil wontons which come with shrimp and pork. Not too spicy nor too oily. As part of the prix fixe menu, I also was served the hamachi crudo, which was light and refreshing. The seafood cha gio were SO good. They give you all of the accoutrements to make them into wraps too, such as fresh herbs (cilantro, mint) and lettuce. It was awesome that they provided wet napkins to clean yourself before the entree. I ordered the bo kho pappardelle and the bo kho seasoning really shined. It was such a cool take on the classic Vietnamese braised beef. I also got the crispy xoi ga, which is crispy chicken over rice, and it came with delicious veggies that paired perfectly with the marinade on the chicken. Great textures and flavor all around. Vibe: Stunning murals and aesthetics make the restaurant feel fun and inviting. It was on the louder side during the dinner rush. The pho pâté was insane. It's this super smooth, rich chicken liver spread served with warm Chinese bread and it was honestly addicting. So savory and creamy, and the bread was perfect for scooping. We kept saying "last bite" and then kept going. The crispy whole fish was such a fun dish. It came with fresh vegetables and rice noodles, and you build your own wraps. The fish was perfectly crunchy on the outside but still tender inside, and when you wrapped it with the herbs and noodles it was the perfect balance of crispy, fresh, and light. The seafood cha gio had that loud crunch when you bite into it and was packed with flavor without being greasy. Everything felt fresh and thoughtfully done. Came for their winter restaurant week lunch, and once again everything was wonderful. Strongly recommend. Every dish showcased beautiful textures from crispy to soft, with flavors that felt balanced and thoughtful. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The service stood out. The servers were professional yet lighthearted, clearing our table attentively while chatting and joking with us in a way that felt warm and comfortable. Hospitality here feels natural and genuine. The restaurant is clearly built with intention, from the beautifully designed menus to the execution of the food, all the way down to packing our leftover crispy fish. I've been wanting to try this. It's in the "in kind" app and owned by the same company as Rollplay, which is my fav Vietnamese restaurant. Note: This is in the new Founders Row in Falls Church which is a new shopping/living area so there's a parking garage and a bit of a pain to get into. It took me a couple of drives around the block to find the entrance (it's in the back parallel to Broad St) and then to park. The restaurant gives you a code to get free parking - although it's only $2 for 2 hours. Last time I was there, I was told they don't really tow in the lot and not to worry about ... Food (5/5): This is elevated Vietnamese food and it was just fantastic! I have been here twice with friends and I have been blown away by how great the food is every time! Made another visit, this time, during lunch. Always beautiful ambiance. Crab Fried rice - bland. Not only was it bland, the rice seemed soggy and there were only like 2 tiny bits of crab. Well taking the bow back , he asked me if I wanted to take the rice home. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts is a beautiful combination of crispy brussel texture paired with lychee and the coconut foam was super delicious. Vegetarian Cha Gio was also flavorful but quit me dense with all the mung bean in it, that filled us up pretty well that we didn't feel like ordering an entree.0 Loved the cocktails!!! 3 steps colada is a beautiful sensory cocktail, but you drink it more like shots. Love their attention to details. The tiny swan on my Celadon Sour looked super cute and intricate. We wanted to be a part of the DC Cocktail Week but we were told for that we would have to sit at the bar and it is better to that of you wanna see the cocktails in making and get some free bites with it but we preferred our table. What an incredible experience! My friends and I have a supper club that checks out new and interesting restaurants. Nue blew us all out of the water. First, Kyung made it incredibly easy to schedule, pick a menu, and helped with modifications for allergies in our group. We prefer to share a family style meal and she made great suggestions for dishes to try. She also repeatedly checked on us during our event. Second, our waitress, Tina, was incredibly helpful with drink suggestions while providing incredible help and service throughout the meal. Her positive attitude, helpful nature, knowledge, and love for the restaurant and its menu were infectious. Third, the staff helpfully and carefully explained each dish and drink including ingredients, allergies, and taste profiles. Fourth, the food was phenomenal. Two days later I'm still thinking about some of the dishes. Our group of 11 had mixed favorites but every dish we ate (6 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts) was incredible. My favorite appetizers were the chili oil wontons, summer rolls, crab asparagus soup, and crispy eggplant. Frankly, the wontons and eggplants were two of my favorite dishes that I've had this year. My favorite for the entrees was the crispy Xoi Ga which perfectly balanced a coconut rice, a cabbage slaw, spicy umami sauce with spicy breading on a perfectly cooked chicken. However, the Curry Risotto with scallops was another favorite at the table. The branzino with sweet potato glass noodles in a tamarind tamari sauce was also a favorite. I came to NUE to celebrate an anniversary with my fiancé and the service and food were incredible! This was my second time here and it was just a s good as the last. I feel like most fancier restaurants in the area serve western food, so I'm glad that there's a high end Asian option in the area. The servers were so attentive and made sure to explain every dish we were served. The food was so delicious as always-my favorite was the risotto with scallops. Thanks to Chasin' Tails, one of the neighboring restaurants, for promoting and offering a free drink coupon on the house to redeem at NUE. This is when I've discovered that both of these restaurants are operating under the same hospitality group and manage several more restaurants that I've frequented previously. I was in awe of the mural in the "Flower Room" and got lost staring at all of the details from the pastels, hanging florals, and soft curvature of the interior wall. The art alone had left me with a lasting impression and was supplemented even further with its elevated Vietnamese cuisine. I would argue this was one of the most beautiful art works that I've seen in a restaurant to date and comparable to what I may admire at a museum. Ambiance: Beautiful decor!! Very cozy and moody vibe. Service: My reservation was at 8:45pm on a Saturday and it was busy! With that said we had to wait a while to get our table. But everyone was great. There was a drink that they couldn't make because of a lack of an ingredient. Food: love the food here! They definitely know how to elevate Vietnamese food. The wontons were a bit cold when I received it but the sauce on top was great. The yuca fries were done perfectly. Note: I was happy to learn a few things. We went here for our wedding anniversary and had a wonderful experience! The server and the host were very attentive and accommodative of our dietary restrictions. We had the 3 steps coloda and celadon sour - both made and presented really well! For food, we started off with the fennel salad - didn't taste much fennel in there but the dressing was exquisite! We also had the crispy brussel sprouts and vegetarian cha gio - both extremely delicious! We signed this off with the tres leches which was a little stodgy and tiramisu like good in terms of flavors . We'll definitely be back to try more cocktails and main course next time! read more

Three of us decided to give this restaurant a try, since they were listed as one of the a must-try restaurants in the Washingtonian Magazine a few months ago. Parking to get to the restaurant wasn't too bad. Plenty of spaces, but the walking wasn't too convenient since it was such a cold evening when we got there for our 5PM reservation. Since we were not aware that you can scan the QR code for free parking, we paid $2 for a 2-hour stay. We were promptly seated right away to our table, which is quite a big table for the 3 of us. Looking over the menu, we decided to order from the "Fresh & Lite" and "Small Bites" menu, which were basically appetizers, so we can share the many dishes and choices this restaurant offers. We started with 4 dishes: (1) snow crab asparagus soup, (2) scallop bánh bèo, (3) wild Spanish octopus, and (4) seafood chả giò. The soup came first and we were able to shared and ate it comfortably for three people. Next, was the wild Spanish octopus and scallop bánh bèo. The octopus dish was one of my favorites. Perfectly grilled and not chewy, very flavorful, and the accompanying sauce was delicious. My taste buds were doing somersaults. So good! My other favorite dish was the seafood chả giò. Topped with peanuts, fried wonton paper, and sesame oil, this dish was a bomb! It leaves your mouth hot from the spices, but you want to eat more because it was so good. We also ordered the golden maitake, which is a big twist to the traditional bánh xèo. They used the mushrooms, fried in bánh xèo batter, and served with bean sprouts, lettuce, basil, and shaved fennel. Although our waiter warned us, this was our least favorite because it veered too far away from the traditional bánh xèo. Bò kho pappardelle was our last and main dish. By now, we were full, but decided to give this dish a try. The meat, braised short ribs, was so tender and flavorful, and the larger pasta noodle for this dish was good. I think we could skip this dish and come back another time and order it. Aside from all of the food we ordered and ate, the waitstaff members were exceptionally good! Everyone we encountered including Matthew our main waiter, were attentive, polite, and eager to assist us during our meal. I believe because of their professionalism and dedication to their job and wanting the restaurant to succeed, they made our dining experience here to be wonderful. If you are looking for a unique eating experience or are tired of eating the "same" Vietnamese dishes, you'll have to dine here in the near future. read more

There is something SO special and unique about NUE. From the level of care you're greeted with upon entering the restaurant, through your meal, and leaving. You can see how much dedication is put into the experience they want customers to feel during their visit. I've gone several times for different occassions- date night, moms night out, birthday celebrations, and just because and every single time it was a 10/10 experience. The food + drinks are delicious and I encourage you to try something different every time you go! You'll be surprised at how delicious they make their foods with their unique ingredients even if it's not something you'd typically eat. I've sat both in the dining and bar area and the bar is louder but definitely more lively. So, I might be in the minority with this one, but I didn't think it was anything special. We went for lunch, and the restaurant was pretty empty. The lunch menu was standard for a Vietnamese restaurant. I ordered the tofu noodle bowl. It was fine. It was spicier than most, but just... fine. Tried this place tonight for a birthday dinner. Service was friendly, but a little slow. Dinner took about 2.5 hours, and we were waiting a considerable amount of time between courses. Food was fantastic - some of the best bites I've had in a long time. We really loved the "Caesar" salad and the seafood spring roll appetizers. The fish sauce is one of the best I've ever tasted. For our entree, we shared the surf and turf platter for two. The ribeye was fatty but cooked well and very flavorful, served with an absolutely delicious chimichurri sauce. The scallops, broccolini, and mushroom were also very good - with a very nice grilled flavor. The shrimp were tasty but a little disappointing, as they really stuck to the shell, so you either had to eat the shell or lose half the shrimp. For dessert we had the tres leches cake and the che - both were very good, though some of the fruit in the Che was still frozen when it was served. One odd thing. As I mentioned this was a birthday dinner, and the waiter and host made a point of wishing us a happy birthday. One of them told us to save room for dessert, as they love to give away desserts for special occasions. Given that, I expected that we'd be comped one of our desserts, but, alas, no. We were charged for both. Left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth, which was a shame given how many good tastes the restaurant provided that evening. We dined for a birthday dinner on a weekend and the restaurant was quite busy. The restaurant is beautiful but not overdone. We were welcomed warmly by everyone and seated accordingly. Our server was very friendly as well. Drinks were ok but the NA drinks need work - our server said everything was super sweet. Tried one that was the least sweet and was still hit with a massive wave of sugar. We only ordered mains as we wanted to try several shareable dishes. The whole fried fish is quite good on its own (fried well/not dry), but for a wrap, needs to be cut/served in smaller portions. The accompanied greens were all frssh. The coconut curry risotto was really yummy - first time flavor combination - rich and memorable. The surf and turf was an expensive disappointment. The steak was supposed to be cooked medium rare - it was definitely barely medium. The prawns were way overcooked/dry - you could tell as the shells were stuck to them. Also only came with 2 scallops while the prawns were a 3 count, didn't make sense. The garlic rice was good but the meats were all disappointing. Throughout dinner, 4 people walked by to ask if they could take the risotto plate, even though there was still risotto on it, we were enjoying. Incorrect efficiency can lead to inefficiencies. For the price, the food wasn't worth it - 2 stars. An extra star was earned through the very nice staff/our server. read more

Luxury Vietnamese food. That's the vibe I felt when I walked into NUE, beautiful decor with a mix of modern and leaning on the traditional boat nestles in the valleys of Vietnam. We started with the seafood cao gio which was definitely worth ordering. It was a bit small for the price ($19), but still very good. Definitely order the Coconut curry risotto. It was creamy and had such a nice balance of flavors. After we demolished the risotto, we made out way onto the crispy whole fish ($61). The surprising thing for me was how they made the fish without any bones. Complete deboning. Which I feel like is hard for anyone to do. Also the fish was so tender and not fishy at all, a great fish for those who don't like too fishy of a flavor. Overall good experience, just a bit pricey. read more
