i had small gas leak coming from the control thermostat connection to the pilot light on my gas water heater. I had Socalgas come out and they identified the location of the leak with their sniffer. My water heater is 9 years old but is still under the 12 year parts warranty from rheem. After talking to Rheem they decided to send me a replacement control thermostat. They said i could install it myself or hire a plumber to do it. I wanted a quote to see how much a pro would charge to replace the thermostat. If the quote was reasonable I would just have them do it. Since i had the part the cost would be just labor. I was thinking 100-200 max since a thermostat replacment with parts and labor is usually about 200-350 according to online estimates. I was floored when the service tech quoted 600 dollars. A 600/hr labor rate! I understand people need to be paid fairly for their time and skill but that seems excessive for what i was asking. After watching a 2 min youtube video, i gave the connection point from the pilot supply line to the control thermostat (orginal one currently on the water heater) an additional 1/2 rotation clockwise turn (i was suprised it had play!), then I sprayed it with soapy water..no more gas leak. Everything works fine now. Saved myself 600 dollars, and the gratification of not having to feel like i was dragged over the coals. I just wanted to say though that the service guy was totally professional and friendly, he just told me this what the company sets the rates at and he could only offer so much. read more

I requested for a quote from several different Plumbers. Guardian came in with the lowest quote so naturally I went with them. $900 cheaper than our first quote and a few hundred less than our 3rd quote. Not only was he cheaper but he was able to give us what we wanted. Install outdoor shower with both hot and cold water for after pool use. EJ ( Edward ) was his name. He came out on Friday at 8 am. He was friendly, and professional. Once we agreed on price and project, he was able to complete the job by 8 pm. He helped us understand the importance of the PRV (pressure regulator valve) and we opted to have him replace our 5-6 year old PRV. By 10 pm I was able to get right out of my pool and use the hot water shower adjacent. What an amazing new addition to our home. We have taken cold showers for 25 years!!!! If you have a pool don't delay the hot water experience. It's amazing not having to run through the house freezing cold house. Edward (EJ) is your man. Unlike all the other guys we called who gave us a sight unseen quote, Melissa offered a team to come in with their camera first and see what we needed before telling us how much it was going to cost us. After all, they explained, why should you pay for services you don't need? They did the inspection, allowing me to stand by their side and watch the video screen as the camera went down various pipes. The lady on the phone was great, but their tech showed up initially charging us $740-$1000 to replace a garbage disposal and a running toilet. He then dropped the price to $550 for just the garbage disposal repair - we looked up the unit it was $100 at lowes - We decided to go elsewhere and found several bids for around $285 for the same job. We decided to upgrade to a more powerful disposal and paid $330 - They just left did a great job. I would steer clear of these folks - they even charged us $60 for the estimate/diagnosis when other plumbers offer free estimates. read more

These people just tried to charge me 1,250 to repair a pipe 1 inch from the surface of a open field. I was like are you crazy? He said they charge $550.00 per hour. Which means he was going to spend $750 on the piping which is under $50.00. So the "quality control guy contacted me"! He stated that this estimate was wrong! He stated how can we make it better? I told him his place was unethical and that I would be reporting them to the better business bureau! His response, you could have gotten more estimates! Okay so so sorry we are trying to price gouge and rip people off this time we got caught! This one took me a while to decide how I feel and honestly I just feel like I avoided being taken advantage of by this company. We had a gas leak while my wife was in the ER with pregnancy complications, so the last thing I needed on my plate was dealing with this while I was balancing caring for our 2 year old and working a new job I had just started. I google searched local plumbers and this one had great reviews, so I called and they came right out. That was cool of them and I appreciated the fast response, but what I didn't appreciate was them quoting something around $700 to literally replace a single shut off valve. I was shocked by the pricing and asked the plumber to explain the cost, he said the labor was something like $200 an hour, that it would take 3 hours to do and the materials were about $100. I decided to decline the service and get a second opinion and thank god I did. I have a now retired plumbing contact from a previous job I worked at who I called up and explained everything and he told me straight up that I was being ripped off. He walked me through how to do the job myself over the phone, I bought a $10 valve at Home Depot and had to entire job done in less than an hour. I'm really disappointed in how the tech saw an opportunity to take advantage, which sadly means I could never recommend this company. read more

Should've done this sooner but, received an alert back in December from the water company that they were noticing a high amount of water being used at our property. Couldn't understand why until a few neighbors informed us that they had notice water coming out of the ground on our property side of the sidewalk. Went out there to check and sure enough water was seeping out of the grass. Began to dig and found a small crack on the elbow of a pvc pipe where water was leaking from. Called several plumbers out and Guardian Plumbers were the first to come out. The plumber who arrived, can't remember his name, saw the problem and immediately said two things could be done. First he could repair the elbow but the job could not be warrantied or recommended for about $1,500. He then said the right and proper thing to do was to replace all my piping from the city connection all the way into my house. That would include digging under my lawn, drilling through my garage wall and then tying into the water main inside the garage. He went on to say that when pipes come to being 30 years old they tend to crack and break. Only problem is that my house is about 9-10 years old. When I mentioned this to him he said, well they can also crack and break at those years also. For this job he wanted about $7,500. I said thanks but no thanks. Called out another company, they saw the issue and said, yeah we can replace that elbow for you. Work will be guaranteed and warrantied. Heck we'll even replace the piping from the city connection to under your concrete slab so you don't have to worry about this area being a problem. Sure how much? $750. Seriously you wanted to charge me double for a job that wasn't going to guaranteed or warrantied but instead your company wanted me to do "the job right" by charging me $7,500? Not sure where all your good reviews come from but now I know Guardian Plumbers are a bunch of con-artist. read more
