Had our first dinner at this restaurant after driving by it for a long time. The grilled octopus was incredible as was the beet salad. My wife and I judge a restaurant's sushi by the quality of their spicy tuna hand roll. This one did not disappoint. We also ordered some sashimi getting our usual yellowtail which was good, but not as buttery as other places. They had a few sashimi/sushi specials featuring fish I hadn't heard of before. Our waitress admitted to not knowing the fish very well and couldn't make a recommendation. We tried the frigate tuna sushi and we were very disappointed. It's a much stronger taste than we're used to. We only ate one piece. I think the staff should be better trained so they can make recommendations. Located inside a building that has housed different restaurants in the past, gu gu is the newest addition to the food scene in Kennett square. Advertised as Asian fusion, I doubt it meets the strict definition of that term. Think of it as a restaurant that serves a variety of Asian food including sushi rolls, hibachi style, wok meals and Szechuan dishes like Kung Pao chicken. There are also a few nods to thai noodle dishes. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The dining room is comfortable if a little dark. Service was outstanding and our server even asked us if we wanted to hold off on the main courses which were ready, until we were finished with our appetizers. We started with gyoza and rangoon which were both good. Some of our party opted for the hibachi dishes while I went with the pad thai. Everyone was happy although I would admit that the pad thai was a little bland. This is a BYOB establishment and was very clean and had plenty of parking. Because it is so close to Longwood garden I suggest getting a reservation. Prices are a little high but the food quality was pretty decent. I would definitely go back. It's interesting that all of the other reviews are from basically first time reviewers so I'm not sure I would put much stock in that. read more

GuGu is our go to place for sushi. LOVE the tuna tasting with the toro and $35 for the amount and quality of fish is reasonable. We've had most of the rolls and have enjoyed every one. They are all inventive and not what you would see at just your typical sushi joint. My daughter loves their crab rangoon and it's her favorite version of this dish in our area. She also really loves the filet mignon hibachi. In addition to sushi, the menu has many hibachi options as well as kitchen dishes for those who don't care for sushi. We usually order carry out from here when friends come to visit us and they are always impressed that we have such a good sushi restaurant in our small town. Several times guests have asked for it twice in a row for dinner during their visits. We've never dined in there due to COVID, but we hope that will soon change. The space is beautiful though and doesn't seem loud. It would be a great place for a family dinner or a date night. read more

Food was good but not terrific. Service has improved since our first visit but still not as it should be. Most issues seem to reflect poor training more than anything. Some issues were communication based - not understanding the order or being familiar with dishes while others were about sanitation - like how glasses were handled/touched when delivered to the table or refilling the glass as well as how the silverware was physically handled and delivered. I,m a fan! Had dinner here on a Friday night with my the family. 6 of us so we did call ahead which I think might have been helpful. We arrive around 6 pm and the place was starting to fill up. Inside looks great, newly renovated and the large dining room in the back is a big space which is where we were seated. We started with a calamari and a Goyza which both were tasty and eaten up very quickly. It did take a little while for the main course to arrive but it's BYOB so the bottle of wine kept us all occupied. Our kids loved the orange chicken and the teriyaki chicken. They were thrilled to us the chop sticks and eat with a new utensil. We also got a couple rolls, one of which was the dynamite roll , super tasty. The entrees were equally as tasty, surf and turf, chicken lo mien, Kung pao shrimp. Everyone enjoyed the meal and the prices were fair. Saturday night after a long hard day we decided to support a new restaurant and give it a try ! We were very disappointed from the moment we sat down, We waited 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged as we were about to walk out ( Our server was chit chatting with a very large table for that 20 minutes as we didn't even know she was going to be our waitress . A drink in the first 20 minutes or a welcoming gesture would of been great . So within the first hour we got our appetizers ordered and server was very pushy about putting in the entire order all at once , I guess so she can be done with us . The appetizers were mediocre.
