Of all the places we could have gone on Valentines Day, my husband and I chose Kooma, a longstanding favorite of ours. Unfortunately, we had a disappointing, subpar experience. Despite having a reservation, we were placed in an overflow seating room, which was cold, loud, and had bright, harsh lighting. Staticky music was blaring, and multiple TVs were broadcasting sports, none of the ambience of the main dining room. The wall we were seated against had food stains all over it (see photos), and our glassware had lipstick stains. The sushi is always good and that's what brings us back. And our server was kind and efficient and had nothing to do with any of our disappointments. But the room was unpleasant at best, and, worse, unclean. Owners and management, do better. read more

We've been going to Kooma for years. Ambiance is fun in the restaurant and they have quick take out options as well. Today, I had ordered several rolls for my husband and I and accidentally got the wrong ones that I wasn't able to eat. When I called to ask if I could get the correct rolls; the staff were so kind, apologetic and even threw in an extra roll and dessert. Awesome customer service! read more

Absolutely loved it! We ordered Gyoza and Seafood soup to start and for dinner we both ordered a Stonepot. Very delicious!! Every one there appeared to be friendly and they had an efficient process going on, balancing take out, dine ins, and the sushi bar. We didn't have to wait long at all for a table or for our food. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He accidentally spilled some soup when placing it on the table but handled it super professionally and it was not a big deal at all. The spicy udon was hands down the best thing we ordered. I could tell my bf liked it too because he couldn't keep his fork out of my plate. If I rated this place strictly on the udon it would be 5/5. My partner got the shrimp stone pot. The pot itself was good but I'm used to stone pots having more veggies and honestly they used really tiny shrimp. Tiny shrimp actually scare me a little bit so it's always hard for me to eat them without thinking I'm eating a shrimp baby. Immature but it is what it is. The kooma wings were okay. They had a soy garlic sauce that would've been better elevated with a tad bit of sweetness to balance the savory flavors. The negamaki was probably my least favorite of the items as the serving size was extremely tiny and it was bit on the bland side. I'll definitely be returning for Udon but I think I'll skip the appetizers next time around. read more

Went to try this fusion Restaurant on a random Thursday. Wasn't too busy and I didn't notice it at the time of seating but it kep getting hotter and more humid the longer I sat. Not sure if they had the AC off for an important reason but it made the meal uncomfortable. The service was great. The food was great on my end with the BBQ stone pot but my wife's hibachi shrimp was over cooked and tough to eat. Okay restaurant but I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Got a hot pot seafood bibimbap and it was really fishy... too much of a good thing sometimes overwhelms the balance. We got a noodle dish (yaki noodles?) and that was really good. Our waitress was very nice but didn't seem to have a clue. I asked for her opinion between the yaki udon noodles, and the spicy Kooma noodles, since both had a very similar description. First, she said that she didn't know. Then after thinking about it some more, she said that the first had udon noodles, and the other had a different type of noodle (not udon - even though both are described on the menu as 'pan-fried thick wheat noodles.' I ordered the Kooma noodles, and they were udon. Which was fine, but I wish our waitress had more knowledge of the menu. The service was also very slow (our food came out at different times), and when I went inside to use the bathroom I could see several of the staff members in a room socializing and on their phones instead of tending to tables. We also got the pad Thai (good flavor but dry) and the OMG roll (pretty good). I'd rather spend my money and time at Michi Sushi or Wasabi in WC. It's too bad that Kooma is downtown and has the nice outdoor seating area - which is why I'd give this place 3 stars (nice ambiance). read more

The food was ok but I've had better at mom and pop sushi places. They were understaffed, the tea cups were dirty, the manager was rude, but the waitress did the best she could. They played a short Spotify playlist loudly with only 3 songs and an Ozempic commercial that kept repeating, "exactly" something you'd want to hear at a restaurant while you're eating. 6/25/2018 - The menu just had so many good sushi rolls!!! Allie was our server. The inside of the restaurant almost looks like a dance club, pretty cool looking but we decided to sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze and sunny day. We went during Happy Hour and took advantage of the Martini specials. We ordered the Key Lime Pie Martini and the Lychee Martini. The key lime pie martini was too tart and I wish they would of added graham cracker to the rim. For sushi, we went with the Angry Birds roll, spicy tuna, eel, asparagus topped with yellowtail with micro greens ($22), Hung Roll, lobster tempura, avocado, topped with spicy tuna with crushed wasabi peas ($16), and OMG Roll, red snapper tempura, avocado, topped with white tuna ($15). All the rolls were fairly priced, great quantity and top quality. My favorite was the Hung Roll with the wasabi peas on top. I would definitely return! read more

I have been here four times: three times for lunch and last night for dinner. Service was impeccable and while the place was pretty jammed after 6PM last night, our waiter Skyler took exquisite care of our table. They have $14-$20 cocktails all made with bottom shelf liquor and mixed horribly. The service wasn't bad, the were understaffed but made it work. I had respect for them and could tell they were over worked. Customers inside seemed to be happy but I heard and saw more people talking than eating. I'll be honest - the food is good but they don't have their act together here. The staff is very nice but it seems like no one is training them on proper service or what the menu items include. Almost everything we ordered was prepared differently from how it was described on the menu and we kept being told that they were out of different things. The service was extremely slow, the pace for different courses was very long and when the meals were brought they included ingredients that are not mentioned on the menu. For example, a member of our party had mushrooms in her meal, and she has an extreme aversion to mushrooms. We were told that that's how they make it now. Another member of our party was expecting there to be lettuce in her meal and instead it was broccoli rabe and squash. Side sauces were omitted and the dessert was supposed to come with a berry compote and chocolate ganache - they were out of both both. Instead, they brought a side of Hershey syrup. We weren't asked if we wanted second drinks or coffee. Someone isn't managing this place and ordering the correct supplies for a Saturday night food service. This place was alright. I read the yelp reviews before going so that hyped it up for me. It's cute and trendy inside with lots of natural light---I went for lunch. We got edamame and the chicken lettuce wraps for an appetizer and they were awesome!! For my meal, I got the sushi bento box. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to pick anything in the box and it didn't have the traditional dumplings, rice, veggies, etc. that bentos usually have. Had dinner there last night for my birthday. Went specifically for something I have gotten several times before. Got two apps and a drink. Took a long time for drink orders and second app. Once our food arrived it did not look right. I do not like mushrooms and avoid ordering food with mushrooms. The dish had them in there along with other ingredients not listed on the menu. The wait staff said, "oh yeah the menu doesn't match the food anymore they changed it." What?!
