On our recent trip to California, we got to to eat and drink at amazing restaurants & bars. One of them was Guisados in Pasadena. It was a great experience with exceptional tacos as well as house made Sangria !! We had fish tacos, chicken tacos as well pork - all were delicious, freshly prepared with tortillas being made from scratch. The restaurant has limited inside seating but a great outdoor patio. Staff are friendly, helpful and with big smiles !!

Our first time coming in here and that did it. . It didn't disappoint. We started in just wanting to try 1-2 tacos and ended up ordering more. Their salsas???? Tasty. That's it, I can't say anymore or less. It's just delicious! Thank you guys

Jesus was the man. He really took extensive time explaining many of the items, how they are cooked, and what flavors go into them. My wife and I tried 6 tacos total, before going back to try 2 more. They were that good and all are filled with flavor. My favorite was the chicken tinga and my wife's was the chorizo, but everything was great and slow roasted. Heads up, if you get a taco where you can pick your heat level, go 2 levels lower than what you plan on getting. The levels go up to 10, but 3 is considered medium. I got 5 and even that burned my mouth off, I was crying. The agua frescas were super fresh and refreshing. The pan dulce also extremely soft and fresh - they bake them in house daily! Overall, Guisados was a really nice surprise. Great food, nice relaxing seating. Easy & free parking. The entire service from Jesus, the other staff members behind the counter, and the bussers were very friendly and felt happy talking to us. We'll definitely come back to try more off the menu, and for breakfast & coffee as well.

Great service, delicious food. Convenient location. Shrimps are so fresh. Must return.

ordered 5 different types of tacos to go... nothing is labeled... it's a guessing game

Ordered 5 different tacos to go... bistek roja, cochinita pibil, pescado, steak picado & tinga de pollo. Food came badly wrapped... and without any labels. We had to open each item & guess what it is. We've eaten there before and the food is not bad, and after this experience, I will only eat at the restaurant because whoever packs the food is horrible.

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the tacos just weren't for me. I ordered two cochinita pibil tacos, and aside from being very soggy, they had way too much salsa poured on top, which overpowered everything else. I also tried the chorizo taco, and it didn't meet my expectations--it tasted pretty basic, more like store-bought chorizo than something fresh or flavorful. On a positive note, the restaurant itself was quiet and not very crowded, although there seemed to be a steady flow of to-go orders. The service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated. Overall, though, the food just didn't do it for me!

Ordered Doordash and it arrived pretty fast ~30 min! Got the Sampler ($13.25) and had the option to pick 6 different tacos! My 6 options were: Steak Picado, Bistek Roja, Mole, Tinga, Cochinita, and Chorizo. The tacos were pretty cold and dry when I got them so I was pretty disappointed. Honestly, it was hard to distinguish the flavors because they were all so salty! I really wanted to have a favorite but they all tasted the same to me. They were all pretty small and super greasy! Overall, I was pretty disappointed and none of the tacos stood out to me so this was 5/10 The Horchata was ok and nothing special. A little too sweet and it tasted pretty artificial flavored so this was 5/10 Most likely won't recommend or reorder unfortunately.

I love their fresh handmade corn tortillas! Their service was friendly and fast. Clean restaurant with fun ambiance. Their horchata is delicious and their fish taco and ceviche tostada was amazing! My group noted their food was not too hot (temperature-wise). I'm not sure why some places don't list their prices. It matters in my decision making.

I like the cute and refreshing outdoor seating area with the mural painting. Servers and cashier are very friendly too. I ordered bistek roja, chicharron, and a queso tamale. The tacos were very good. I'm not a refried beans person, and I usually skip the beans. But I didn't know they come in the tacos here. So I was surprised when I took my first bite into my taco to find beans inside. Luckily, it's a pleasant surprise as the beans here are very good. I don't mind it at all. However, the queso tamale is quite a let down. It's very very dry. I only took a couple of bites, and gave up. I also got the horchata cold brew, and that's very good too. I'll definitely be back.

Amazing food, quality and service! Didn't realize there was such a close Guisados. Came on a Sunday morning. My SO and I ordered a breakfast burrito, two Cochinita pebil tacos and a quesadilla con chorizo. Everything was delicious and so filling. The staff were so friendly and it was such a great Sunday morning vibe. Also, free parking is always such a plus.

I've had Guisados a few times now and really enjoy their tacos, ceviche tostadas, and refreshing drinks--especially the agua frescas. The horchata is delicious, though a bit too sweet for my taste. I haven't tried enough to pick a single favorite taco yet, but I really like the bistek, tinga, and seafood options. Their ceviche tostada is always a standout for me--fresh and flavorful every time. The space is a bit rustic, but I love that it's spacious with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a large parking lot, and it's kept clean. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!

It has been a while since I been to Guisados, as I used to go to the downtown location pre COVID a couple times. I decided to go the past weekend to the Pasadena location, and it was worth the drive! I went up to the counter to order my tacos, and the person taking my order was nice. I got the pescado, steak picado, and mole poblano, and it was all delicious! The tortillas are also hand made, and I always love a fresh tortilla. Yes, it's a bit pricey for tacos, from $4-$5, but it's pretty damn good in quality and flavor. I also saw they have tamales, which I would like to try some other time. Guisados is still a winner in my book.

Food was ready really quick and the women at the counter greeted me and made sure I was served quickly! Food was so good probably the best tacos I've ever had seriously!! The plate was so nice the taco sampler laid out was fantastic each taco was mouth watering and had an explosion for flavors!

    Ask the Community - Guisados

    This restaurant serves kosher food?

No, it's a Mexican restaurant with much of the food mixing milk products with meat, i.e., pork, chicken, beef, etc. Guisados is not a good choice for kosher foods, yet it is one for pure deliciousness!

Do you sell your corn tortillas for people to take home?

    Do they serve beer?

    yes!!!

Can you ask for no cheese or cream (i.e. dairy-free)?

    Yes

Are the corn tortillas non GMO?

    Yeah and cage free too

Do tamales have lard? Or are they vegetarian?

I recently asked them, they told me all their tamales have lard in the masa except the elote tamales which are made with butter.

    Open for dine-in yet?

    Yes

There is no food service at this location but they seem to partner with a couple food trucks serving tacos. Some inside open air seating but the main draw is the relaxing patio. I liked their hard seltzers with fun flavors as jicama, tamarindo and passionfruit. I didn't like so much their signature Yerba Mate Pale Ale, but thought it was an interesting concept. The happy hour special is Monday all day and Tuesday-Friday open until 6pm $2 off full pours. Very family friendly, I always see a couple tables with children and dogs at them. Maybe I'm getting to be an old fuddy duddy but I hate when parents let their kids go free range. Screaming and running around like the establishment is a park these kids becoming trip hazards. There needs to be a revamp of their board game collection. There three boxes of games that looked incomplete or used up, not good with such games as Scrabble and Pictionary. After visiting the Huntington Library in the grueling heat and hordes of people, looked for somewhere closeby to eat on co-pilot, and was suggested this place with a patio which was one of my requirements. Arrived and parked on the street on a Sunday which is free, and could not find the place it's kind of tucked away. After walking up a block found the charming little passage way with some patio seating. It seems like it's a family-owned and operated restaurant as always a great indicator of things to come is the complimentary chips and salsa. They were perfectly thin crispy non-salty and warm, paired with a nice salsa that seems house made but was a little too tomato/ketchupy but by no means bad. I had crispy taco with shredded beef and chili relleno combo. It was pretty good. ($21 )I enjoyed the rice and beans and it was a filling portion. Wife and mother-in-law split a carne asada plate the meat was flavorful and tender ($30) came with the cheese enchilada was also very enjoyable. They have a really large patio so it's hard to fill but people kept coming in and out so the locals know something. The food was good, but the service was especially frustrating. I spent over 30 minutes on the phone, in both English and Spanish, trying to process payment, which lead to nowhere till I had to drive myself to the restaurant to swipe the card manually. When it was time to pick up the order, the restaurant could not spare anyone to help bring the food to our car, despite it being a large catering order and the pickup taking place on a very busy avenue. What was most disappointing was the lack of concern or willingness to offer any assistance. The food arrived late for our event as a result. While the food was good, the poor service has made me reconsider ordering catering from them again, returning as often, and recommending them to others. It's a shame because I genuinely enjoy the food, but there are other options available. Hopefully, the service issues I experienced with catering do not eventually carry over into the restaurant experience.
