We haven't been here in over 10 years and came in this evening for our anniversary. We sat in the bar area and met some of the locals. Tyrone was our bartender and he did an excellent job taking care of us. We started out with a dozen Raw Oysters. For dinner we split the Crab Cakes topped with Crawfish Tails and Remoulade. It also came with Potatoes, Corn on the Cob and Cole Slaw. We added a cup of Gumbo to go with it. Everything was delicious. Definitely the best meal we have had this week. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place. Whenever we are in OB we come at least 2 times. Last night was our second time this week. The crab is always delicious and seasoned so well. Their clam chowder is one of my favorites and their coleslaw is so creamy. The service is always great. We've never had a bad experience here. We came here for lunch on our trip, and I had mixed expectations of the menu. I love snow crab, and was really anticipating a great meal. But all of their meals are steamed together with corn and potatoes at the same time (which in the northeast is more of a crab boil). This style of cooking makes everything taste the same - the corn tastes like potatoes and crab, the crab tastes like corn and potatoes, etc. Totally ruins the crab experience in my opinion. So I ended up with a bowl of clam chowder which was good, but just not what I was hoping for. read more

We had a fabulous meal and great service. Exactly what we were looking for. The wait was 25-45 minutes on a Tuesday evening around 6pm. Instead of waiting, we chose to sit at the bar. We ordered 1 pound of steamed shrimp as a appetizer yeserday 1-18-26. The waitress brought us a platter with corn, sausage, and potatoes. We explained we wanted only shrimp. She did nothing. Then the shells were stuck on the shrimp. I tried a potato it was watery. Very bad experience. read more

They continue to aggressively implement new levels of shrinkflation. The huge platter you once got is now pretty much an oversized plate. The shrimp are not as large. There are less crab clusters. There is just noticeably less food. But oh boy - plenty of potatoes and corn. This is incredible disappointing. The 2 of us ordered a $71 assortment of seafood to share. It was wonderful! Totally delicious and fresh. Shrimp, crab legs, oysters... cooked and seasoned perfectly! We have been going to Gulf Shores Steamer for a few years. The first few times we went, the food was really good, as indicated in my May 20, 2023 review. Unfortunately, the food quality has declined at each visit. Granted, we don't live in the area and only go three or four times a year, but still, you would think the food would be consistent. However, it isn't. Our last visit was April, 2025. We ordered a dozen oysters, and I could not eat them. Of course, they are farmed, and I have no issue with farmed oysters as long as they are good. The oysters we ordered were HUGE...bigger than any oysters I have ever seen. But, in addition to being HUGE, they were extremely DRY. It was as if they had been shucked and sitting for an hour or two. Absolutely no moisture at all. I took a bite of one, and that's all I could eat. It was just totally nasty! We always go to this restaurant at least one time when we are in the area, but I doubt we will go back. On a positive note, the bartender is great...very personable and fun to talk to. So, if we do go back, we will just go back to see him and have a beer but no foo. read more

Tuna dip was loaded with mayonnaise and couldn't taste the fish from the mayo, and served with chopped iceburg with brown around the edges (wish had taken picture). Cocktail sauce tasted like straight ketchup, it was gross. Caesar shrimp salad was just good, maybe 3 1/2 stars. 1/2 pound shrimp platter were "ok." The salt and pepper shakers were downright GROSS! Miraculously we were sat down super fast, even though they were super busy, which is no small feat when you have a party of 8. Our group ordered up some mock-tails, waters, some Coors Lites, a glass of wine, and some smoked tuna dip; it all came out fast. The time had then arrived to order up those fantastic looking crab legs, and we did! We did the crab legs boil along with the gumbo and slaw. These crab legs were SO GOOD!! They were hot, fresh and so tasty. My girls tried the shrimp po boy, crab stuffed shrimp, the steak sandwich, and the chicken tenders (I know....weird), and they all raved over the food. After we had demolished the food, we paid up (they automatically add tip to the check), and we moseyed out the door, and walked around the marina to take a few pics. Sorry, this is a late post. I tried to check in while I was at the restaurant, but my cell service was less than stellar. If you were looking for a great fried seafood alternative then this is your place. I love fried seafood, however, a little can go along way. This place will only serve steamed and grilled items. The food is fresh and the service is spot on. It is a nice sized building but is not overwhelmed with endless seating availability. I think that allows for the kitchen to be more efficient than larger scale restaurants in the area. Upon entering we were given a buzzer and a wait time of 35 minutes. We enjoyed looking at the large boats parked in the marina while we waited ( wait time was only 15 minutes total.) We ordered quickly and had our meals in approximately 20 minutes. Our server was great and on top of everything. We ordered the Shrimp and Crab Combo, Crab Stuffed Shrimp and Whitefish Stuffed with Crab Meat. There was so much food that we couldn't eat it all. The value for your meal is spot on. At the end of the meal they provided two bowls of warm water and lemon for our party that ordered the Shrimp and Crab Combo. Very nice not to leave with sticky fishy hands!! Even though it was a Tuesday evening during a busy season we got in relatively quick at 5:00 pm. Every one started rolling in around 6:00pm. So if you go around 4:45pm or 5:00pm I think your chances of a shorter wait time will be better. read more

Waiter brought out an assortment of completely stale crackers. Inedible. Tray arrived with the Reds looking a deathly grey color,and dry. Can't comment if the crab legs being shriveled up inside,like others here have said,as I sent the order back. Before it came out,I asked for some melted butter to dip my food in. He returned saying there was no real butter there,besides the sticky squeeze bottle on the table. It looked like something from the grease trap. I know because I have worked in restaurants. The waiter couldn't tell me what it was. So I sat there and watched my wife eat her fish,with no butter for her veggies. No one ever came out to ask me anything,and it was dead in there. Our whole family loves eating here and it has become a tradition for us when our kids and grandkids are in town. Gulf Shores Steamer has the BEST crab legs and highly competitive prices. We won't get them anywhere else. My husband loves the royal reds and the sides are always delicious too. We usually order extra corn because it's so good. Service is exceptional and the location is unbeatable. Our favorite part (other than the food) is the little bowl of soothing warm water with slice of fresh lemon to clean your hands after your meal. Our family's nickname for it is "lemon soup". The atmosphere is casual. We have gone dressed up or in shorts and tshirt. There is also incredible outside seating by the marina.
