We have used Steve at two houses over the last 9 years. He has always been courteous, explains everything well, and has very fair pricing. The outside of our chimney was showing some "spalling", where pieces of brick start to fall off. I first called Steve, but he stated he no longer completes that type of masonry work - no problem, he's always my first go-to. I called another company who spent over 2 hours "inspecting" my chimney and concluded that we needed over $11k worth of work, not only on the exterior, but many interior things. The quote and the suggested work seemed questionable. My husband called Steve to have him come give us a second opinion. He quickly determined the interior work that was suggested by the other company was not needed and that everything appeared to be in perfect working order. Steve came highly recommended by my parents. So when we needed someone to clean our chimney and repair our damper handle, we gave him a call. Steve was super easy to work with, prompt, quick, and took all the safety precautions we expected due to COVID-19. When the damper handle turned out to be a quick fix, he didn't even charge us for the repair. During the cleaning, Steve found cracks in our chimney lining. He showed me the cracks and explained two different options for the repair, even explaining a service that he did not provide, but that I could get through other chimney companies. When he came to repair the chimney liner, Steve was efficient and thorough, even helping to replace some loose bricks on our chimney and giving me some tips for how to best use the fireplace. I can highly recommend Steve for chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair, and we plan on using him for all of our future service. read more

Was using D&B Tuckpointing for my cleaning needs... was concerned that they didn't do a good job a couple of weeks ago. Superior Chimney tried to up sell me on a bunch of things. Steve brought things back to earth doing a great job cleaning after the last jamokes. Cleaned ups some grout work in the firebox and I am good to go for next year. He is of the opinion, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So many companies upsell and recommend fixes that aren't needed. Steve will be getting my business for years to come. read more

Steve Gullickson serviced our chimney today and earned a customer for life. He was on time, honest in his assessment, cleaned up after his work was completed and was very polite. We originally discussed installing a top damper to solve some draft issues, upon his inspection he saw something that may resolve our issue. Rather than installing the damper and then telling us about the issue he encouraged us to have the other issue corrected and see if that solves our problem first before spending the money on an additional damper. I really appreciated his honesty. He also performed a cleaning and was very thorough and his charges were very reasonable. I don't see any reason why you should go anywhere else. read more

Steve Gullickson is great - very fair and reasonable - been in the business over 25 years. As new homeowners who had never had a fireplace in the past, Steve spent time going over the basics as well as inspecting the fireplace well. We unfortunately had someone else come in before him who tried to up charge us on everything and claim our fireplace was a hazard and not usable - We knew they were bogus and Gullickson's name kept coming up from other neighbors. Mr. Gullickson inspected my damper system today. Another major "chimney company" claimed that I needed to replace the damper system for $600. Skeptical as I was, I had Mr. Gullickson inspect it and that was not the case. With a little WD40 Mr. Gullickson fixed the damper. He also notices a fire hazard in coating application by the previous company. He offered an economical solution to both the damper and the removal of the coating. I accepted Mr. Gullickson offer and felt a lot better. Wish I would have gone with him earlier. His prices are reasonable and he will even take time to give you a little "101" in operating a chimney. I definitely agree with the other reviews. Steve has been checking and cleaning our fireplace and chimney flue for a number of years. He shows up at the appointed time, makes sure he doesn't make a mess and then reports on what if anything he found. Steve has very reasonable rates. We've been using Gullicksen's since we moved to Wheaton in 1991. We moved in November and didn't know when the chimney had last been cleaned. I received a flyer in the mail and called Gullicksen's. When Steve came out, he asked if we had worked with him before. I explained that we had just moved in. He examined the chimney and then looked through his records and said that he had been at the house in May to clean the chimney and said to call him the next year and didn't charge us! I bought my house 7 years ago and have been using them ever since. They come in. Clean the fireplace and chimney. Check everything out to make sure it's in working order. They don't try to tell you that you need to fix things that aren't broken or sell you things that aren't needed. (I've been suckered into that once before by another company, my fault I didn't do any research) not an issue with these guys. They clean up after themselves and don't charge an arm and a leg.
