My wife was the one who had reached out to Soot Yourself to try and get our chimney cleaned out. If there's one word I could use to describe the experience it would be trustworthy. We had originally scheduled to have them come out late 2021, and rescheduled a few weeks later. Pricing had gone up for the new year, but Pattie was willing to honor the original price quoted to us which was great. Fast forward to the day of the scheduled service, and Al is the serviceman scheduled to come out. He shows up right on time for our scheduled appointment. After grabbing gear and mask, I point him over to our fireplace to let him get to work. After inspecting the chimney, he mentions that it's clean and doesn't need to be serviced. Talk about honesty. He could've easily just gone through the motions and taken my money and I wouldn't have known the difference. Anyways, he ended up just doing an overall inspection which seemed pretty thorough, checking the cover opens and closes, testing the gas igniter, ash dump area, and visually inspecting the structure from inside and out. Only recommendation was for a chimney cover, which he quoted for but was not pushy and gave me time to think about it. Anyways, appreciated the honesty and professionalism. This company is the best company of all the service companies I have dealt with in the last 20+ years! They go above and beyond in all areas. They were also the most reasonable sweeps I have ever had. Al and his associate inspected all 3 of our fireplaces and flues, then patiently explained how to work the one gas fireplace I had problems lighting. He had me take a video, which was the smartest thing I could have done. Christmas Eve late afternoon, I was panicked because I thought I was letting gas into the house. Found this company on Yelp after I noticed a huge bird nest on the other side of my fireplace screen and a not so great smell starting to come through. First off, I didn't catch her name but the woman on the phone couldn't have been any nicer. Great way to start the whole experience. Very sweet and got us an appointment a week out. Now onto the actual appointment. Al was great! Again, very nice guy and took his time, cleaned everything out, made a suggestion for a screen as he could see where we had birds coming in, very thorough. The best part was the little lesson he can give you about actually starting the fireplace. When we moved into our house we were excited to use the fireplace. On our first fire we found that smoke was being drawn into the basement. We had Fireplace & Chimney Authority out and they said that it would need to be relined. The estimate was $4.5-5K. I know nothing about chimneys and from their video and pictures that diagnosis seemed reasonable. They said it was in really bad shape. So bad they wouldn't even want to clean it for fear it would basically disintegrate. So I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't have fires for quite a while. $5K was out of the budget. We have a neighbor that was told the same thing by another company when they moved into their house. They heard good things about Soot Yourself and decided to get another opinion. Soot Yourself solved their problem without having the chimney relined. So I called to get a second opinion. Al took a look and came to a different conclusion than the other company. There were issues with the flue tiles at the top of the chimney which had come loose. It couldn't be guaranteed that was the issue but at a fraction of the cost quoted by the other company it was a chance I was willing to take. We just had a fire with no smoke in the basement!! I recently had an existing chimney cap blown off and called a local chimney sweep to get a quote to come out and reinstall it and take a peek in the chimney flue to make sure no wildlife had taken up residence. After less than stellar service from the first company and a quote that seemed extreme just to come LOOK at the situation, I decided to give Soot Yourself a call. When I first got in touch with them, I was told I was just outside of their service area. I spun my tale of woe, and they said they had a nearby appointment for the following week and could schedule me then and quoted a price about half of the first company. They called me back shortly after and said that after looking at scheduling, they could actually fit me in the next morning, if that was ok. I jumped at the opportunity. The technician arrived on time the next morning and quickly went to work, replacing my cap with no hard sell on needing to buy a new cap from them. He reassured me that everything was clear and sound with the chimney, and took pictures. He mentioned that there were a few small cracks in the top of the crown, showed me pictures, and said I might want to get it repaired in the future, but was not pushy about it nor did he try to get me to schedule anything on the spot. He didn't push to inspect my other chimney or fireplace or any of the other issues I've had with past chimney services. In the end, they even knocked a little bit off the final price because I held ladders for the technician, due to the height and steepness of my roof. I can't speak for their sweeping service, as I haven't used it. But the customer service and price were more than I could have hoped for on this small job and I will definitely be contacting them for any future work I might need. read more

We hired Soot Yourself for work done on three fireplaces in our older home. They are a family operated business and as friendly as you can get. We had Al come out for an estimate. Even though he was late, he gave us advance notice that he was running behind. He was very fast and very clean during his consultation. We had to order a new damper and he said it would take about a week for it to come in and he would contact us when it was ready. I had to deduct two stars because it took about 2 follow-up phone calls to schedule the appointment to get the damper installed. I found out that they have had some family issues and apologized for the inconvenience. On the day the appointment was supposed to take place, I received no notification of what time they would be at our home. Around 3:00 (I was out running errands), Al called my cell phone to tell me he was running ahead of schedule and would be at my house shortly. Unfortunately, I had to tell him to wait until 4:00. He didn't seem to mind. He was, once again, very clean and very efficient. Again, I had to deduct a couple of starts due to the customer service issues, but overall, I would recommend them for their quality of service. read more

From my first conversation with Patty to Al's inspection in our home today, we received nothing but honest, professional, friendly, first-class service.
