We visited Guppy's on July 20th. The decor was eclectic with a fishing theme. The service was good and attentive. We were a group of 5 and 4 of us decided to share two haddock dinners. We were informed that would cost 6 dollars extra to split these 2 meals which was irritating because these dinners were overpriced to begin with. The thickly breaded fish was very greasey and I'm glad I only had to eat half of it. The accompanying french fries were very average. We only added one house salad to the meal which was another 6 dollars. It was good. I was then additionally irritated when they charged over 4% of the total bill with tax included just to use our credit card. So, basically, a single simple fish dinner with one side salad and no drinks or dessert ended up costing a total of 39 dollars. I felt like we had just been fleeced for a very mediocre meal. For a place that I didn't expect much out of and didn't read any yelp reviews prior, I am blown away. This place looks like a random spot in a kind of summer touristy location but I was plesantly surprised. Their muscles look out of this world and come in a giant martini glass, the crab dip is full of tons of actually crab and was delicious. The fish fry was outstanding one of the best I've ever had. Excellent food and staff! Their sanitizing and cleanliness exceeded any expectation. Our waitress was Carrie and was phenomenal! We were watching all of the food going out to tables while waiting to be seated- it all looked and smelled so delicious it was so hard to choose a dish! We had the crab dip with fried pita for the appetizer, chicken parm for one dish and broiled haddock for the other dish. The portions are huge! We have always loved coming here, even as the prices went up to what have become pretty high for the food, but I also get you're paying "lake prices" and the food has never disappointed and the outdoor seating is nice. However, tonight we came for dinner and decided to split a dish. We had two separate waitresses take our order due to a mixup, neither of whom bothered to mention there would be a $3 split plate charge (25% of the value of the dish we ordered). I did not see any mention of this on the menu, which seems highly unethical to charge someone and not tell them in some way up front (as has always been done any other place where a split plate charge applied). It wasn't a large amount of money, but the principal of it is highly disappointing and will make us think twice before returning. read more

Went here on Friday night. Started off with some drinks, and an appetizer of bbq wings. Then for a main course we had the fish tacos and the chefs special of pot pie. Yes I will say the food is good and the atmosphere is really cool especially with the ski things you can sit inside with a speaker but WOW the prices. Came here with a couple friends for a nice dinner and ended up paying $15 for a Moscow mule $25 for my drink which granted was a small fish bowl type but pretty excessive on the pricing still. Got the Greek salad they talked about and it was good, but for $22 i would pass. Also they charge like %3 ON TOP of the prices if you use a card. Cool to come here once but not again, our bill for 5 was around $230... staff was great though read more

I literally had to hold it the whole time there because it was too crowded and my friend said they were out of soap in the bathroom. This place is in the middle of no where it's a 15 min drive from any bathroom. Food is overpriced. Food is bland. Portions are on the medium to small side. Salad was wilty and sad. We went on burger night and enjoyed really tasty and juicy burgers for around $10. The fried fish was pretty good but a touch pricey. The downside was the soggy French fries. I'm only giving it one star because the service was great. Our server was very friendly and did a great job. The rest was bad. My husband had the Hawg wings and I had the shrimp fajita bowl. The food was lukewarm and seemed like it had been sitting around for a while. The flavor was blah. We used a debit card and when we received the bill to sign we were charged a fee for the debit card of almost $4. Nowhere on the menu did it mention a charge for using a debit card which is illegal in NYS. You have to clearly list both prices if you are going to charge a fee. My husband tipped 20% based on the recommendation at the bottom because, again, the service was good. After looking at it the recommended tip was based on the upcharge and the taxes, not the pretax total. Would never go here again. read more

Drove from Ohio. Booked a room on our way through just to get the Mussels before heading another 4 1/2 hrs. to Tughill snowmobiling. My boyfriends has been talking about this mussels and restruant for 3 years now. Since the last time we stayed here and he tried them. Sadly it was closed everything we could find said it was open 3:30 -10pm including the answering machine when you call. Wish we would have know this. We wouldn't have made the extra stop. We understand covid has things really screwed up right now. But they could have atleast put it on there website that they are temporarily closed. Guppy's is a nice local place that somehow turns out decent grub for such a small kitchen. We normally go there in the winter and stop there after skiing for some food. Theres usually a wait in the small bar which is tolerable unless it is 2 degrees outside and the door is constantly opening. They do not have much room to expand and it looks like they have added on over the years. The restrooms leave something to be desired as the are a restroom/storage/janitorial closet as well. Remind me of a restroom in an RV and are more of a "bar pisser" than a restaurant restroom. Overall, for the choices you have around the lake they are our #1 choice and go-to place, next to the "casino". Give it a try, it's got a warm family feel to it. read more

During a midweek getaway, we decided to stop in for some food and beer after receiving recommendations from numerous friends. We were here for burger night on Wednesday (any burger for $6.99). My husband ordered the Smothered Mushroom burger and I ordered the Blue Burger, both with fries. They were cooked to order and equally delicious, although we both agreed the smothered mushroom was out of this world! They had a great selection of beers, both on tap and bottled. They even have growlers available for purchase if you plan on taking some home and drinking by the lake (which we were very tempted to do)! If we make it back to Chautauqua Lake we will definitely be coming back to Guppy's. Weather was beautiful and we would have liked to have eaten outside but just 30 min after opening, the outside area was packed. We opted to sit inside. It is a typical tavern atmosphere. Guppy's took social distancing seriously and had dividers between tables. We each ordered a drink and then dinner. It was Father's Day so my husband ordered the special, Short Ribs which came with cheddar mashed potatoes and green beans. He loved everything. The green beans were made with maple bacon which made them amazing! Reminded him of how his mom always made green beans. I had a pasta Alfredo with chicken which was recommended by our waitress. I am soooo glad I took her recommendation! This dish was creamy and had mushrooms, onions, spinach, tomatoes and red peppers. Even with my husbands help I could not eat the entire meal! And man I wanted to! My husband Ended his meal with a peanut butter pie for dessert. Wish we lived around here so we could go back! Service was fantastic food and as excellent and drinks were great! What a fun restauarant with a great outdoor area! We sat in the back corner of the patio with our dog. They were pretty busy, so they asked us to bear with them and our waitress which was fine. The hostess and waitress were very nice! We shared the crab dip which was wonderful - the chips it comes with are interesting and delish! We also shared the large order of the fish fry and were not disappointed. The fries were good, the coleslaw was creamy, and the batter on the fish was deliciously crispy. We were hungry and a bit tired from a day on the water. We needed a place to satisfy a large group with diverse tastes. Guppy's was perfect on both fronts. The food was very good and at our table we tried every type of food they offer from stromboli (huge portion) to wings, burgers and salad. All munched away while the wait staff was very helpful and pleasant. I most enjoyed seeing the locals interact and the owner or manager greet us like new friends. I've been going here my whole life and never had a bad experience. The waits can get a little long but only when they are BUSY in the summer. The servers are amazing (especially Amanda) and the drinks are delicious. Burgers are always perfect and the menu definitely has something for everyone. The summer patio and outdoor bar are a must-see for people traveling in from out of town- it's a great place to spend an evening. Overall this place never disappoints.
