So we ate at Gus Coney Island on August 7. We both had chicken shish kebab. It started with a 'mini' Greek salad which was far from mini. Could have been a meal in itself. The chicken main arrived promptly and included a large amount of tasty chicken. I had the rice my husband had fries both were good. Included lots of pita bread and dipping sauce. Server I think she signed bill as Baby Girl was lovely. I commented on the fact that the dressing was excellent and when we were ready to leave she brought out twi small containers for us to take with us! And to think we almost went to the nearby Panda Express! This place was so much better. A sit down meal with good food, friendly service and great wait staff. Have been here 2 times in the past month or so and both were great experiences! Service is quick and the servers are very friendly. Restaurant and bathrooms are clean. Easy parking outside. Ambiance is relaxing and quiet. Great prices and food was on par with typical diner food, so it's a good spot if you are in the mood for that! Will definitely be back. read more

Been my home forever this place is timeless and if you don't enjoy it don't come especially if you're just ordering a hotdog and chili cheese fries go find a hot dog cart instead but the breakfast is one of the best that's I've ever had been going here since I was 10. prices are wonderful and staff has changed since I was young but they all still treat you like family. read more

Decent Coney Island. Fast service, and the food was fine. My steak & cheese tasted really good although the meat was a little gristly. My husband had a fried fish sandwich that was solid. Good place to stop if you're on the road and want to sit down rather than grab fast food. The decor is a little dated, but it seemed clean and was also family-friendly. read more

Our favorite weekend breakfast! The whole menu is great. Service is top notch and old school. The whole place is classic and nostalgic.

This Chesterfield staple has been around forever (and it still looks the part) but I think that is the charm of it. Definately no frills...doesn't try to be something that it isn't...just cheap good food with something for everyone. I like their chicken noodle soup and their Shish kabob dinner. read more

We were just waved to find a seat so we sat then waitress came over and started asking us drinks and stuff (cool) only to when we answered interrupt us to wave her regular patrons to her section and proceed to talk to them over us and across the room.... finally she remembers we were in the middle of talking and asks us to repeat it twice, after that she goes straight to the just sat table takes their drink order rushes us our drinks and then theirs and just starts taking their order first and talking politics with them for five mins before acknowledging us again ...... rude very rude But food is okay.... soup was pretty good... read more

I haven't been here in a long time. I only had carry-out in the past; But i sat and ate with a friend of mine yesterday and everything was amazing. I work in the industry and I cannot believe how incredible the waitress was!!! Its too rare to find someone who knows how to read a table and guests. Her name was Holly. She was amazing!! Service extremely slow. Waitress has no idea about food and has to walk away to ask. Had to ask for straws, had to run back and forth before we could order due to not having her order and on her. When food arrived missing one of my kids orders but took so long to get original food that they shared a meal. Bus boy was yelling questions across the restraunt as to what items they keep from the tables which included individual salad dressings if they "appear" unused they are to keep them for future customers. Food was very sub par. Waitress never came back to offer refills on drinks. Had to hunt her down to get the check so we could leave. Stay clear of this place. I just wanted to tell everyone of the extraordinary kindness I witnessed at Gus Coney Island this morning. There was a woman who was sitting at one of the tables, and she had a lot of garbage bags filled with things, she was sitting there talking to herself. I believe that she was probably homeless (not judging) but my husband said he saw her sleeping at a nearby bus stop. Anyway, she got up to go outside and one of the servers helped her to gather her things, when they got to the door, the server said that it was raining pretty hard outside and would she like to stay there until it stopped raining. The lady said yes and so the server escorted her back to her table so she could wait until the rain stopped. I thought this was very kind and should be noted. And by the way, they have the best sausage gravy I've ever tasted! read more

Gus' Coney Island is your quaint local Coney Island that delivers just that. Comfort food and with a friendly vibe. I had the French toast with bacon. The bacon was cooked to perfection and the French toast was amazing. I asked for extra butter and syrup and she gave me more than I needed without any attitude. Not one star because the fries and coney dogs are pretty good and cheap. The breakfast is disgusting. Only thing that is made fresh is the eggs (with zero seasoning in them). This is the first time that we have eaten here since it was remodeled years ago. The decor inside is spruced up the comic memorabilia and drawings on the windows. We sat in the booth with Wonder Woman drawn on the window. The menu was your standard coney island fare. I ordered the fish and chips with a side salad, my wife got the gyro with a Greek side salad and my daughter got the Big Breakfast. Well our salads came out and we started to eat. The first thing that I noticed was that the lettuce in my salad was watery. I tipped my salad bowl and got a puddle of water on my plate. I eventually gave up on my salad. My wife liked her salad though. Our meals came out just a few minutes after our salads. My daughter really liked her Big Breakfast and scarfed it right down. My wife said the gyro was what she expected and she really liked their fries. Her food came out on a broken plate though. My fish also tasted good. That was until I had my last bite and found a hair. I took the hair up to the cashier to let them know what happened. She asked me if I wanted a new plate of fish and chips but I declined. I had already eaten all of the fish. What was nice was that she marked down my bill when I went to go pay. The staff was nice at least but I don't know if I would go back. The prices were reasonable but you do get what you pay for in the end. read more

I went here just before closing time after I got off work. There was only one other person in the place so my food got to me in about 5 minutes, probably less. Our waitress seemed ridiculously happy to see us and was really friendly. Food was decent, but then again you can't really tell much about overall food quality when you're just eating chicken strips. Bathroom was a bit scummy and the entire place looks like it hasn't been renovated since the Golden Girls era. Other than that, there aren't too many drastic cons about the place. read more

ABOSLUTELY DISGUSTING! I went there tonight around 11pm and ordered a simple cheese fry. The cheese was poor quality and tasted very sour. Also, the drink was SO OVERPRICED! My drink and fries together gave me a total of $5.83 ?! With the drink being $2 and some change and the fry being $3. I only went here as a last resort and I'll never go again. Might I add that after leaving and getting home, I woke up to find myself SICK. I ate two fries and couldn't finish them yet I got sick, and vomited all over my bedroom floor. How hard is it for a restaurant to make sure that their employees hair stays out of the food. Been coming here since I was a baby. breakfast is always on point, and there's nothing better than a 2 on 1 (2 coneys on 1 plate...) and fries. However I do recommend when you order fries, ask for them extra crispy/well done or they will come out undercooked. My husband and I frequently eat here. The food is always delicious and the prices are really good. The only thing I would change is I think the waitresses should wear a uniform shirt and either Kakis or jeans. It's hard to tell the employees from the customers. The food has always been good for a Coney Island, however, the lack of cleanliness and rundown dining room and bathroom leave me wondering what the kitchen looks like. We were told to sit at any booth by the front window, each seat had rips 2-3 foot long and tables filthy. Invest in your business and take some pride in it, sad to see it so far gone. read more
