This is the new Mei Mei Cafe. Whatever they saved in not changing the signage they passed on to YOU you lucky patron. The staff were very helpful to introduce the concept - choose your skewers on display nonchalantly in the fridge, they cook them to order and then bring them to your table where you take and eat and enjoy. I've been twice and I plan to come back and figure out my fav skewers, which may require several visits to settle.

Gutian Fried Skewers took over the old Mei Mei restaurant that was here. I believe they changed ownership, since when you go on the pay system it still calls itself Mei Mei. Space has been redesigned, feels like there is more seating now than previously. The concept of the place reminds me of malatang where you pick out your favourite items from the racks and place them on your tray that you would then check out at the counter and they'll cook it for you. I also feel like there could have been more items offered, the refrigerators where they stored the skewer felt a little empty. I went simple this first time around, picking the bundle of 5 beef skewers, 2 pork belly skewers, and a potato skewer. Out of these items, I really enjoyed the pork belly skewers. All the other items were good, going to have to get more the second time I visit. Just to quickly note and correct the first review on here, Gutian Fried Skewers is not the first fried or Chinese skewer place in Seattle. There's actually two more places in North Seattle that do almost the same exact thing. Nevertheless, Gutian Fried Skewers is still a great addition to the neighbourhood, and a tasty place to go with friends.

Pork skewers and chicken steak are my favorites. They're very tasty--highly recommended.

The restaurant was lively with a moderate noise level. A simple family restaurant that puts out authentic Chinese food. My companions both ordered the Black Mushroom with Chicken Rice in a stone clay pot. Their regular meal at the restaurant. I selected the Braised Beef Brisket with vegetables in a clay pot. The two rice dishes require 20 minutes to prepare hence my Braised brisket arrived first and bubbling hot. The flavors were rich and deeply satisfying. So good that my companions plan to order the Braised brisket next time. The Chicken Stone pot clay rice bowls arrived soon afterward. My friends enjoyed their dishes. Fresh tasting and delicious crispy rice. One ordered a Milk Tea and enjoyed it. Highly recommended for an authentic meal when you are in Seattle's International district!

A tiny place with big portion and authentic food…read more We came here on a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was almost fully packed. I had my all time favorite dish at a Hong Kong café cuisine, gon caau ngau ho (乾炒牛河), aka beef chow fun, along with a childhood favorite drink, iced Horlicks. I liked how everything moved at a quick pace here and yet the staff were still friendly. The best part was that no one stopped by to ask how the food was while your mouth was full, because they already knew the food was good. The beef chow fun was just as good as the ones back home. It was savory and full of wok hei (iykyk). The bean sprouts were added at just the right time, so they were still a slightly crunchy. The sliced beef was tender too. If you like adding extra spice, be sure to try the crunchy chili sauce on the table. It was awesome, fragrant, spicy, and full of flavor. Just be careful not to choke on it, I did, and it wasn't fun. I hadn't had Horlicks in twenty years, and the first sip brought back so many memories. Be sure to stir it well and maybe wait until the ice melts a little, otherwise it may be slightly too sweet. My partner is a vegetarian. He looked through the entire menu and said there weren't many things he could order (listen, people, choose your future SO accordingly if you like sharing big meat dishes). He ended up ordering the curry vegetable rice and added a fried egg. He said the curry was delicious. I tried a bite of it and agreed. I think there may have some coconut milk in it because it was rich and creamy. The rice was a little too dry to my liking. Sitting there and listening to the background music from the Hong Kong TV news, I felt like a kid again.

This old-school Chinese restaurant in Seattle's international district serves up HUGE portions of…read moretraditional dishes like Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Rice and Chow Mein, in a setting that feels stuck in the 1970s. Which is appropriate, considering that Tai Tung is best known as a frequent haunt of the late martial arts star Bruce Lee, who is celebrated with a shrine at his favorite booth. Service during our recent Saturday evening visit was fast and efficient, and each dish was more than large enough for one person. Our son loved the amazing Fried Chicken Wings, while my wife and daughter split an order of Beef Chow Fun. I wanted to love this place, but I was honestly a little disappointed by the lack of flavor in the noodles and the sauces. The Chicken Wings and Kung Pao were excellent, but the Chow Mein honestly underwhelming, and the Fried Rice more than a bit dry. With so many restaurants to choose from in Seattle's International District, I wish we had explored other options before committing to Tai Tung. I've definitely had better Chinese food elsewhere.
