Would order again: mapo tofu, general tso chicken The mapo tofu was tasty and had a thick consistency, and did not have an overpowering 5 spice flavor (my issue w mapo tofu in the past). It's a perfect addition to put over rice or noodles or even with bread. General tso chicken came in LARGE pieces. Because it's breaded, it didn't taste as good the next day but was delicious when fresh. Veggie chow main was about 70% veg and 30% noodle. Happneed on this place while taking my friend to Carkeek Park. Had about two hours to spend, before I had to pick her up. First impression is, this is a strong take out place. Lots of orders flying out. I wanted to eat in, so this was challenging. They did have a very small two seat bistro table out front, that I used to eat my order. This is very much a no frills place. You order and food comes to you packaged . It's good food, but service is limited. Had to start with seaweed wonton soup. A hearty broth, which is always welcome and fat wontons. A great start. Next was Dry Sakura Shrimp with Chinese Sausage Fried Rice. Sausage and shrimp made a memorable dish. Peking pork chops were great as were shrimp chow fun. The amount of dishes here are amazing. This place is some of the most amazing takeout I've found in Seattle! The pancakes, sesame chicken, beef chow fun were all absolutely excellent and above what you'd normally expect for takeout. This plus the friendly service makes me understand why people say so many great things about this otherwise unassuming takeout spot. This local treasure is sneakily the purveyor of some of the most satisfying Chinese food in the city. While it offers pretty much nothing in terms of ambiance (takeout only), the owners are very nice, make your food quickly, and their portions will make sure that you're stuffed and happy. My usual always consists of at least Beef Chow Fun and Garlic Chicken Wings. I love thick, chewy noodles and the chow fun here satisfies so deeply on texture, satiety, and flavor. The Garlic Chicken Wings are hard to describe, but it's one of my favorite comfort foods in the whole city. These wings are MASSIVE and heavily breaded. This may sound bad, but the fried crispiness of your first bites into each is just a crunch explosion that enhances the juicy, flavorful chicken perfectly. We were intrigued by the high reviews of Sunflower Garden so we decided to check it out. This place is in the Greenwood neighborhood at the end of a small strip mall. We ordered take-out online and scheduled our pick-up time for later in the evening. Note that even if you order online you still pay in store during pick-up. They are also currently doing take-out only. BEEF CHOW FUN ($11.99) - This is one of their most popular dishes. I thought it could've been a little more seasoned but I added some chili oil and salt and they made the dish better. 4/5 CHEF'S SPECIAL FRIED CHICKEN ($9.95) - This was essentially just the popcorn chicken. They were crispy and were seasoned well. However, I was expecting more from a dish that was named "chef's special" than something I could've gotten at a boba shop for half the price. 3.5/5 ONION PANCAKE ($2) - The pancake was very thin so it was crispy but there wasn't much to them. Luckily they were pretty cheap but I could do without them next time. 3/5 Overall the food was good and the prices were reasonable. I'm glad I found a good Chinese spot more north so I don't need to go to International District for my fix. I'd be interested in trying their fried rice or other chicken dishes. read more

This post is for a takeout order from Sunflower Garden on 3/16/22. It was one of those dinner moments when we wanted Chinese cuisine, but didn't want to drive all the way to Chinatown/International District coming up on 7pm. Based on the Yelp reviews, decided to finally checkout Sunflower Garden, located in a strip mall that also has other businesses featuring burgers, produce, and Mediterranean cuisine. It has its own parking lot by the busy intersection of 105th/Greenwood/Holman in North Seattle. I ordered onsite: chef's special fried chicken, sweet and sour pork, and the wontons in spicy sauce. It took about 20 minutes and was given some of the homemade sesame candies versus the ubiquitous fortune cookies. Definitely piping hot contents as I sped back home. We dug in with the steamed rice we had on hand and declared it tasty. Piping hot, but packed in such a way that items weren't soggy. Cut out holes in the containers prevented steaming and the sauce was packed separately. I took home a takeout paper menu and look forward to trying other entree dishes. OVERALL: 8.3/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4.15/5). My partner and I arrived famished around 3pm for a late lunch on a sunny Sunday in 2021. There was nobody else here so we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. There's a decent amount of parking in the plaza lot, but it's shared - so if any (or a lot) of the businesses are busy, you may have to find parking on a side street nearby. Verdict: an excellent portion size, decently fresh, and very filling. We ordered four things and had tons of leftovers. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 9/10. The menu is not that long, but has clear sections: soup, fried, appetizers, stir-fried, house special, and drink. It all fits into a nice foldable menu, which is perfect for ordering takeout. 2) FRESHNESS: 8.5/10. We ordered: 1. Hot & sour soup - it wasn't that sour, but they gave us additional vinegar to help make it more sour. 2. Shanghai bok Choy - the garlic was very evident, this was the smallest dish of the four. Still tasty. 3. Chow fun with beef - noodles were great (not too dry), the onions and beef were tasty. 4. Mapo tofu - the sauce went super well with rice. We ate the leftovers for dinner later that day and it was just as tasty as before - the soup definitely wasn't as sour or as spicy as it was at the restaurant, but I'm guessing this has to do with the reheatability of the food. 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 8/10. The cost breakdown went as follows: 1. Hot & sour soup: $8.95. Okay portion size; probably meant for one, but could be shared between two people. Unsure what the ingredients all were, but considering it needed more vinegar, they probably cheaped out a bit here. 2. Shanghai Bok Choy: $9.95: overpriced, the portion size was "meh" at best - knowing that you can cheaply buy shanghai bok choy at the Asian grocery for ~$3/lb, this dish has a very high margin versus effort/portion size. This is maybe worth charging $5-6 for. 3. Chow fun with beef: $10.95: Worth it for what you get - this is shareable by two people, or a big meal for one. 4. Mapo tofu: $10.95: Considering how cheap tofu is, I think this is probably overpriced by a bit - only $1-2 over. An extra bowl of rice being $2 knocks down the score by at least 1/10; these don't cost much, and at-most should cost the customer $1. 4) SERVICE: 8/10. The only two complaints I had in the entire visit were that water refills were hard to get (we were the only ones in the store, but they were nowhere to be found after they served our order), and one small bowl of white rice cost $2. I'd say otherwise the value for money and service would have had perfect scores. Thumbs up for being Mandarin-speaking though, and taking my peanut allergy in stride (no allergic reaction!). 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 8/10. I'd for sure come back, but maybe not for dine-in. As the stereotype goes (and this rang true when I was back home in Toronto back in December 2021) - great food, decent decor (sometimes), but terrible service. We live nearby and had skipped this place for years, but after seeing a number of glowing reviews we thought we'd see if our assumptions were wrong. Nope! The one bright spot were the Pot Stickers, which others praised as well. We also ordered BBQ Buns, General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken. For both, the sauces tasted like the Hunt's version of pasta sauce. Meaning they tasted nothing like you'd expect the sauce to taste and way too much sugar. We took the food to-go and ate at Flying Bike Brewing. After a bite of the BBQ bun, I put it down. I ate some of the Sesame Chicken because I was hungry. In the end, we tossed any leftovers we had. I've been back three times since my last review, and have also gotten the beef chow fun, green beans, stewed pork over rice, and fried wontons. While the food was tasty, the dishes didn't beat out my original lineup: green onion pancake, BBQ pork buns, spicy wontons and fried chicken special. So if you're going for the first time and don't know what to get, just get this, trust me. The other thing to point out is as with most foods, having the dishes at the intended temperature is key. The first time we went we ate at the restaurant so everything was just made and hot. If you're doing takeout, be sure to properly heat at home to really maximize your dining experience. If you get the green onion pancake and have it at home cold, it's not going to be very good. Take the time to pop that ish in the microwave or air fryer and you'll be set. Or, just break into on the drive home. I was so impressed with the food my last experience, that I forgot to talk about the service. This is definitely a mom and pop shop; every time I stop by I see the same man in the back, and woman up front helping customers. We've only ever interacted with the woman, and she is very friendly. The crispy chicken wing in garlic oil is super crispy and juicy, there were 7 wings - wish there was 8 to round off sharing with others though. My first time here I tried the spicy wontons and pancake but didn't like any of those, wontons are not shrimp they are pork. The pancake was decent but a little small and dry for me. All I can say is WHOA. Like, in a good way. Saw the many five star reviews, including ones from my Yelp friends, and decided to give this mom and pop spot a try since we were in the area. I remember being sad that the pupusa place in this location closed down. I didn't know what was going to take it's place, and I don't live close to this area, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sunflower Garden grew in its place! This is the real deal. I'm still dreaming about the scallion pancakes, the CRISPY garlic chicken wings, and the sautéed green beans with shrimp powder. One qualm is that the pancake was small. However, it was flavorful and well executed. The green beans with shrimp powder are next level DELICIOUS. I'm a fan of sautéed string beans and I usually get them if they're on the menu. Now that I've had Sunflower Garden's with shrimp powder, how can I have them any other way? Just writing this review makes me want to jump in the car and make the drive to order them again! One of the best things about this location is that it's close to so many other places. Stop here and get fresh produce from Lenny's while you wait. Then go across the street and get a boba tea or a haircut. I love this intersection and wish I lived closer to it. How did it take me so long to order from here? The food is DELICIOUS! Ordering was easy - I called in and the lady was really nice! Ordered the pork fried rice, general tso's chicken and tofu w/vegetables. The pork fried rice was so good, pork infused deliciousness. The tofu w/vegetables were A+. Everything was marinated in a soy based sauce - the tofu was perfectly cooked and held it's shape! No oozy tofu - yay! The veggies were fresh and perfectly cooked (bok choy, baby corn & green beans). You're definitely getting more meat vs breading unlike some sweet and Sour chicken entrees from other restaurants. I like that they kept the sauce separate. The chicken cam with veggies and pineapple. The beef chow mein came with lots of meat and the beef was tender. Delicious flavor and you're getting a ton of food for the price of both dishes.
