I was charged $25 for a watch battery, which costs $10-15 at another jewelry store - and it turned out that the battery didn't work, because my watch was still slow. I went to a second jeweler who offered to replace the battery at a very reduced price, and that one works. I questioned the $25 fee and GVS told me that's what it cost. I will not go back there. read more

I took my Seiko watch there to have the battery replaced. I was told that the watch movement which is rated to 5 bar pressure/50 m had corrosion in the movement; I requested repair. I was told that the repair would be about $156. I have no record of this since the jeweler crumpled the yellow slip for disposal without giving it to me. I ended up paying $272 for the repair and a new movement (costing ~$17 according to the watch movement supplier GVS Jeweler used). I did take the old movement; it shows no visible sign of corrosion. I have reported this business to the state. read more

To address the owner's response, my husband didn't come back to thank the owner -- he came back to ask for a partial refund because he was upset and felt that he had been overcharged. Like I said in my original review, the work done on my ring was great and fairly priced, but the work done on my husband's ring was not a fair price. That's not misinforming the public, that's sharing what happened and what my experience was -- exactly what Yelp is for. Also, it was really disrespectful of the owner to refer to my husband's ring as a "worn out used band" in his response. The ring belonged to his father, who passed away just a few months before we came in to get the ring resized. I'm sure that makes potential customers feel great about bringing sentimental or inherited jewelry to this business. read more

I've had a number of lengthy interactions with the owner, only after to find out (from a reputable source), that I was being taken for a fool. Beautiful, high quality work!! I brought two of my grandmother's rings here to be resized and restored. They re-pronged, resized, and polished them up beautifully so that the 70+ year old rings look brand new. Susan and Vladimir are very friendly people, too! I'm so happy with their work. The shortening of my metal watch band went very smoothly and it was a good experience. The owner and his wife were pleasant to converse with and I enjoyed looking at the interesting jewelry items in their store.I wanted to leave five stars but I had a less positive experience later that seems to have been ddue to a business issue that the owner was having. I went to GVS to change the battery and black leather strap on my boyfriend's watch. The family that owns GVS was so helpful and knowledgeable. I ended up ordering the coolest black carbon fiber strap with bright blue stitching to match the watch. The watch is infinitely more stylish than it was originally. Vladimir is friendly, accommodating, and reliable! I brought an antique ring to GVS to have the setting fixed because it had been pushed off center; he ended up having to to rebuild the setting which he did well. When I picked the ring up it was good as new and polished, and he had kept in touch with me throughout the whole process. I've been in to have watch batteries replaced as well. I've also noticed that they have a much better selection of jewelry for sale than would be expected from the small size of the shop. A+! Highly recommended! read more

Brought my beloved bamboo wristwatch in for a minor repair and left with a lifelong go-to watch doctor! Very friendly and knowledgeable - told me more about my watch than I even knew was out there and even clued me into a mechanical issue I hadn't been aware of. I was in the area just to have the battery in my watch replaced. When I walked in it felt like they were upset that I was interrupting. I ask if they could change the watch and the guy begrudgingly decides to do it. 5 minutes later he asks for $15!!! In my hometown the local jewelry place charges $5! I was in the Belmont area and came across what I would call a diamond in the rough. I walked out of Brigham's Ice Cream and noticed this jewelry store. I had some time to kill and was pleasantly surprised by the reception and courteous engagement from the store personnel. I also was impressed by the quality and delivery presentation of all the jewelry. I went home with my ice-cream and returned a few days later to find out that they not only remembered me but I was able to price a nice necklace that I just have to have. Very high quality work and it was finished in less than a week, not to mention the labor was completely free. I saw the prices in his wholesale book for a gold chain and he absolutely gave me a great deal. I will definitely be returning for any repairs in the future. I recently went to this jeweler after it was recommended to me by a local. I will never go back again! Although he did a good job fixing the broken link in my necklace (it looks fine, and he polished it and got the nots out of the chain - two things I didn't ask him to do) he charged me $80. I was completely shocked and begrudgingly paid him. When this necklace had another link broken, it cost me $30 to have it replaced at a different jeweler. Even though that jeweler is farther away, they are much nicer, more honest, and much more reasonably priced and it will be worth the drive rather than paying for overpriced fixes in Belmont. After hearing good reviews, I reached out to this jeweller to have a ring appraised. Pleasant conversation with the wife's owner, and an appointment was scheduled. Upon entering the shop, I was greeted warmly by the owner, Vladimir. I explained to him my reason for the appointment, and he started the process of measuring and recording all pertinent information regarding the ring. The entire process was professional and pleasant. In July 2011, I brought some jewelry to sell at GVS Jewelers. The owner looked at it , weighed the gold and silver, appraised it and gave me a check for the value of the jewelry. I left for a vacation a week later and found out that he had put a stop payment on the check. When confronted, the owner said that he realized afterward that he had made an error and what he thought was gold was in fact silver. He claimed having called me but I never received the call and he did not leave a message. I was told that the jewelry was worth $100 less that the check he had given me. My bank charged me $20 for the stopped payment and V. Arustamyan refused to reimburse me for the bank fee, claiming his bank had also charged him to stop the payment. I am not responsible for his mistake (not recognizing gold from silver?) and why should I pay for it. I had trusted his professionalism and expertise as a jeweler. He offered to keep the jewelry at the new estimated price, supposedly to make me happy. This is just very bad business practice (my bank could not believe that he would not reimburse the $20 fee) I do not plan on returning to that store ever nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

I recently got proposed too! I went straight to Gvs to choose my ring!( which I am so happy about). The owner who I got to get to know is very friendly and easy to talk too. He showed me many BEAUTIFUL and unique wedding rings. I was stunned. I couldn't choose out of ALL the options. So he offered me to make one! I was amazed! Horrible customer service. He was rude and continued to tell me what I wanted and what I actually wanted "couldn't be done" ( which was having the center stone sit lower) and was told I'd like it ( I didn't want my fiancé to do business here and unfortunately he did anyway). Less than 2 weeks after purchase and trying to like the ring I wanted the center stone lowered and or wanted to exchange it. GVS would not consider either. He told us the middle stone setting could not be changed in anyway ( so how is this ring "custom made????") they would not return or exchange the ring either. I ultimately brought the ring elsewhere to get the center stone setting lowered. It was done without a second thought and was told it was the "easiest setting to change" because it was a pin. It cost 100 bucks. The center stone setting was also initially crooked when received ( it took you 8 weeks to "custom" this ring where I got nothing I wanted because it "couldn't be done" and the center was crooked?) While at the second jeweler I inquired about trading in the ring for something I actually liked. They appraised it. The jeweler was shocked that the appraisal said the diamonds in the setting were VVSI. VVSI he should not have seen any inclusions. He saw MANY and showed us. Black specks, black lines, and bubbles. No where near the quality that we paid for. In addition, the price for the ring set online was not what was paid. My finance ended up paying quite a bit more (taxes not included). GVS said it was because the ring was coated with palladium ( it was not). Luckily, I had a the center stone passed down from my family. It is really the only value from this ring and if it wasn't for that I would toss the engagement ring because the entire thing makes me sick. I would not recommend this jeweler to anybody. read more
