Everything was simple and straightforward. While the ice cream did take a little time to come out, it's totally understandable considering the amount of detail that goes into shaping the character cones. I also ordered a side of curly fries, and they were honestly just as satisfying as the ice cream. They were made fresh, hot, and perfectly crunchy--exactly how I like them. They can't get jobs in the area because they don't speak English. Lots of old wives tales saying black chicken healthier. Large amount of chicken almost half a chicken. This isn't an Americanized version of chicken soup. It takes a min of 15-30m to sit there and suck the meat, tendon and skin off the bones. There is no hunk of chicken breast meat or pulled meat off the bone. They gave me a thigh, drumstick and piece of the back. Only 1 back per chicken. Lots of bones. The black chicken at 99Ranch is 20$ for a whole chicken about 1/3-1/4 size of an American roaster chicken. There would be many complaints from non Asians about the bones and portion size if this was in a mainstream location. So happy to not to have to deal with that noise or having someone complaining to the owner until they got it for free. The noodles are wheat starch noodles so they won't get soggy as you eat the noodles over the next hour. The broth is a slightly sweet medicinal chicken soup flavor. Not bitter like the black colored Chinese medicine broths. Not sugary sweet. Slightly sweet from the freshness of the chicken and goji berries. Hint of bitterness but very hard to pin down. Might be from Huang Qi or Dang Shen roots. The chef is a mom first home style cook. Limited English. Other patrons can translate for you. Those types of places provide the most authentic experience of home style healthy cooking because they got good at making food for family first. Not optimized for profit. Nobody sells black chicken soup because of the cost of the chicken and ingredients. These recipes don't scale and are never in the high volume convenient locations with high foot traffic and high number of passing cars. Undiscovered. Hard to find location but worth the drive. Good reminder of home style chicken soup. Recipe not on internet. The slightly black broth is both from the chicken and blend of dried herbs and spices. That can't be duplicated on internet recipes.
