I've been to this restaurant before (even celebrated my birthday here in the past), but I had to come yesterday for National Spanish Paella Day! We came at 7pm on a Monday, and it wasn't too packed which was nice. They had 3 specialty dishes to choose from: Traditional Seafood Paella, Fideua, and Vegetable Paella. Now I've always wanted to try Fideua at a restaurant, but I actually made that dish for some friends a couple days ago so I had to stick with the traditional Paella. Now, I've had their Seafood Paella before, but this one had octopus instead of scallops. This restaurant makes one of the best paellas I've ever had, and I've had plenty of homemade paellas from a Spanish family friend. The rice was beautifully cooked, the seafood was jam packed with flavor, and the grilled lemon of course added the perfect touch to this amazing dish! As for drinks, my friend and I both ordered the 50 Shades of Purple, which I highly recommend if you like a nice refreshing citrusy drink! Lastly, our server yesterday was absolutely hilarious and cracked jokes with us. She made the experience so much more fun! So, I know the exact food I ate was only available March 26th and 27th, but the Seafood Paella is still on their menu with scallops. How could you not love Gypsy Kitchen? My girlfriends and I walked in on a Friday afternoon and the hostess was still able to quickly find us a spot on the patio overlooking Buckhead. We ordered seafood pállela, potatoes, brussel sprouts, garlic shrimp, and hummus - everything was absolute delicious . We also shared a carafe of the red sangria between the 3 of us and it was enough for about 1.5 glasses each. First of all: this is a freaking BEAUTIFUL restaurant. Our server, whose name I unfortunately cannot remember, was friendly and attentive and gave us plenty of guidance about the menu as we were new to the style/flavors of food here. We started with the potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and jamon plates and boy were they tasty. The potatoes were crispy outside but soft inside with a tasty tomato-y sauce and the Brussels were perfectly crispy with a bright relish and feta topping. I could have eaten 3 more plates of them. For my entree I got the shakshouka and other than my eggs being overcooked (the yolks weren't runny like I was hoping for) the flavor was still so so so good and savory and mopped up every bit with the grilled bread. I don't even like mushrooms and I ate the oyster mushrooms in this dish. My husband got the Spanish-style breakfast sandwich which he also said was super delicious and filling! Shout out to Chris the GM who recognized us from the night before- we had unknowingly had dinner at their sister restaurant next door- and stopped by to introduce himself and wish us a happy anniversary. We were also treated to one of their housemade cinnamon rolls which were also to die for. I don't like my pastries super sweet and this one was the perfect balance of sweetness and cinnamon. I recommend this spot to everyone in ATL and those visiting! It's a pain in the ass to locate the first time in buckhead village, but the food and views are so worth it. You have to take an elevator up to the place from the ground floor of the outdoor complex. They have valet for not too much or you can pay to park in the deck (also not too bad). I've come here many times, from first dates to business drinks to my birthday dinner! They always treat us so nicely and are super knowledgeable. The patio's views are incredible, if the weather allowed I would sit there every time! My favorite dish to get are the sumac honey carrots. So...it depends... The ambience and location of Gypsy Kitchen is perfection. Super sexy vibe with a rooftop that takes it up a notch. The hubby and I visited for Valentine's Day dinner. For as much as I enjoyed the Buckhead people watching and a nice glass of Cava...I was underwhelmed by the food. I'm a foodie and although the menu was nice, the shrimp and crab fritters tasted too "fishy" and the remoulade tasted invisible. The Moroccan spiced lamb skewers were yummy but the Brussels were boring. The Sangria was just "ok" and they didn't have any Cognac XO options at the bar for my hubby. All I could think of was if I could have this ambiance with food from Eclipse de Luna or Under the Cork, I'd be in heaven. So why does it depend? Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday! Parking was pretty easy to find in Buckhead Village (there's a deck with paid parking). We had a reservation but still had to wait a good bit for our table to be ready. We had a rose sangria and ordered a couple tapas for the table including the chef's board, hummus, mushrooms and goat cheese toast, patatas bravas, croquettes, and garlic shrimp. Ok a few visits in and I am finally ready to share a review! This place is where it is at for cocktails for sure, a great place to meet up with friends or to have a sexy date. The first time we came it was mostly so we could see what the party on the patio was for (we never did find out but there was a dj and a camera guy). The cocktails here are exactly my style and stopping here for tapas is the move. One thing I do have to say, is I would suggest avoiding the 'seared" scallops. As an avid scallop fan, I order them and in an unfortunate surprise, when we got them they were not just not seared, but they were very overcooked. The next time we stopped in, it was for a drink and a dessert, and that was a great visit. I would like to note the "heated" patio is not warm at all, just enclosed, it was quite cold, and we do regret sitting outside and wish we would have picked inside. Their cheesecake made up for the brisk weather. We will be going back because the location is a great spot, and the cocktails are great, with just the right atmosphere. I hope to use this as a pregame location next time because cocktails and small bites are really what this place was made for. read more

I don't know what it is about food ITP but suffice to say, it's... not at all what people make it out to be. So I had to make a trip to the airport to make a drop but her flight wasn't till midnight so she decided a once in a long while visit to the inner sanctum of Buckhead for cuisine that is outside of her normal palette and I'm always up for something new so rather than our OG plan of Korean food, we opted for Spanish tapas here at Gypsy Kitchen. Again, I don't know what it is about places inside the Perimeter but it really wasn't all that it's cracked up to be for the price. And yes, the price reflects their overhead cost and rent. $18 for 3 skewers of Moroccan lamb? And the meat was about as big as my pointer finger. DON'T GET IT TWISTED!!!!!!! The flavors those skewers offered reflected Morocco! I enjoyed every minuscule bite of each skewer and I had 2. Portion is what we are dealing with here and for $18 for three skewers, I should've eaten before coming here. Part of our order was the skirt steak, the roasted brussel sprouts, and our main dish which we opted for the paella. The skirt steak... the dish itself was flavorful, intense, rich, luxurious, and enjoyable. With the caponata on the side added a new marriage of flavors and of course each dish had a sprinkle of tabbouleh style garnish on top for a different take on your palette. The brussel sprouts were roasted... almost burnt but there was a sweetness to the savory that almost had an umami to it. To be honest, the sprouts were about the only thing that was offered in a large portioning. They were good and filling but it's roasted brussel sprouts. Nothing to write home about. Let's talk about how disappointing the paella was. DON'T GET IT TWISTED!!!!!!! The paella itself was delicious! Never had a paella so I didn't know what to expect. I've only seen it on food YouTube channels and read about it in food blogs so to have a Spanish style paella was an exciting venture to experience. And at $47, I was hoping for this big family style platter of mountainous quantities of seafood, rice, smatterings of vegetables, all married with whatever seasoning they usually use on paella. BUT NO... the portion again was nothing more than a burrito bowl you get from Chipotle. 3 jumbo shrimps, about 5 mussels cooked down to the point they shrunk to a barely chewable size, maybe 3 measly clams that'll barely hit the tastebuds on your tongue. At $47... Folks... this was the size of a burrito bowl from Chipotle and you drop $47 for it. The ambiance was extremely dimly lit great for a date or a friends get together or even large parties. There's both outdoor and indoor seating as weather permits for the outdoor patio. Parking. Don't get the valet as it's just $20 so go to a parking garage as they'll validate parking. DON'T GET IT TWISTED!!!!!!! The food itself, the service, the ambiance were all pretty decent. What gets me is for the price you pay for each dish whether it's a large... "LaRgE"!!! Or a small dish, the portion sizes do NOT reflect the price and that to me ruins the dining experience. I don't care if it's a tapas place. $47 for a paella that looks like Chipotle could make it is not appealing. This is a Yelp 3 star joint because the math doesn't math in terms of price and portions. Tapas notwithstand... make the paella somewhat bigger!!!! read more

Decided to come to Gypsy Kitchen for a friend's birthday dinner which by the way they do celebrate here but my friend refused the singing of happy birthday lol We ordered a bunch of things since it's tapa style! To start we got the sangria karate. I asked for red wine but we got rose sangria which was fine because my friends don't love red wine but the rose sangria was actually quite good. We got the chef's board to start and as someone raised by Spanish family the meats on the board were phenomenal and the cheese was amazing. It came with this caramelizad onion dip which was to die for. The hummus was also an amazing starter!!! For the mains we got the mushroom and whipped goat cheese toast was also exquisite. The star of the show was the patatas bravas which were so yummy. The croquettes were also good and the most disappointing thing had to be the garlic shrimp. They really just weren't giving anything. Only complaint was that we had to wait a bit for our reservation and prices are meh but that's what you get in Buckhead. read more

Pulled up for dinner shortly after 7 on a Friday. We didn't have a reservation but was quickly seated outside. The patio area wasn't packed or booked up as I had assumed it'd be (coming from DC, reservations for any outdoor dining is practically a must). Our waiter was Chris. He was pleasant and helpful. Whenever I see a tapas menu, I'm ready to order half if not most of the menu items. So imagine my excitement. We decided on the roasted carrots, brussels, grilled octopus, skirt steak, and the scallops. The roasted carrots were served cold to our surprise but was absolutely tasty. I only took a bite or two since I had my eyes on other plates. The Brussels were crispy and not overly doused in sauce, my fav. But they were undercooked, way more firm than Id like. The grilled octopus was quite amazing. Nice and thick, we could taste the grilled, smoky flavors. The roaster potatoes were cooked just right, soft at the center with crispy edges. Highly recommend. The skirt steak was absolutely one of the top 2 plates that came out. Each bite was tinder and juicy, with the perfect seasoning. Also, highly recommend. The scallops were a 9/10. I loved them more once I got pass the tomato jam. The tomato jam overpowers the dish initially and I wasn't a fan of that. Every other component tho? Especially the mash, was a perfect compliment. To drink, I had 50 shades of purple. It was fruity but light and perfect for a summer day. The gin wasn't so forward either which I liked, sometime gin can smack you in the mouth. To close the meal out we had to order the olive oil cake. The orange gave each bite a citrus hint. The toasted almond crumble was a great texture add too. Would I return? Absolutely.
