I've only had gyros a handful of times and been so disappointed that whenever I see a rotating meat kabob I pass over it in search of other food. No longer. I have found a delicious mecca. Huddled in a small strip mall in Northgate, the Gyro Hut has great hours, a friendly staff, a beautifully decorated shop and delicious gyros, falafels and baklava! The gyro meat is so flavorful and they stack it high, which makes the price justified. And they don't smother it in tzatziki sauce. Just enough to make the sandwich interesting. Their falafel is amazing. I usually don't enjoy garbanzo beans but they have got the gift for flavor. The same with the baklava. Not overly sweet and a perfect ending. I've also enjoyed their baba ganoush. And I'm not a fan of eggplant and adored it. I'm sure by now, you can tell I'm eating my way through their menu! A must try in Northgate! read more

Gyro Hut is a solid place for gyros in the area. The restaurant is a middle eastern/ Greek hybrid with a spattering of cuisines on the menu ranging from gyros to falafel to chicken tikka. I really like their lamb and beef gyro. I wasn't too impressed with their chicken gyro so I will not be ordering that again. Chicken, lamb, or beef gyros are $6.25 each. I love the jumbo gyro with your choice of hummus, feta, or baba ghanoush slathered on the gyro. ($7.25). This gyro doesn't seem particularly "jumbo" to me in size. I guess the add on is what makes it jumbo. I've also had the dolmathes and they are tasty, I will be back again and again! read more

THE BACKROUND: A guy (me) who has never liked gyros because his entire experience with this Greek staple was skewed by an eighth grade carnival gyro purchase that resulted in gut wrenching illness and a week of quivering loins I was also taunted with humiliating glances and woeful castigation for pronouncing the 'g" in gyro. How would I know it was pronounced year-0? Is that what made me a social out cast in middle school, or was it the day-glo fro-pic in my corduroys and my obsession with Hall and Oates ? Perhaps I'll never know. THE GNAWING YEARNING FOR GYRO REDEMPTION: I see the signs calling to me. The ubiquitous and plentiful shiney white "A" frames taunting me with too-good-to-be-true specials and plates slathered with Mediterranean delicacies strung across Northgate Avenue like Cheshire cat teeth. "But no, I can't", I mutter to myself "Gyros are awful, I don't care what the rest of the civilized worlds thinks. So what if they come from Greece, the cradle of democracy and a Formula to keep men's hair from turning gray" And so I resisted until... YELP AND GYRO BOTH HAVE FOUR LETTERS AND A "Y". I began to read the Yelp reviews. One scintillating review after another! Perhaps I owed it to myself to visit. Perhaps this would decide who I am as a person! Perhaps my patronage to the Gyro Hut would make that bold once in a lifetime statement that would break me from my chains of sandwich bias and I would cross a portal into a new and better me!! Or perhaps i was tired of the Taco Del Mar next store. CROSSING THE RIVER BREAD STYX: I entered the store with fear and trepidation. It smelled wonderful! The sizzling lamb on the grill called to me like a carnivorous siren song: "BAAAA "BAAAA" "SIZZLE" SIZZLE". VENI VEDI VICI: Okay, that's Latin, not Greek. Shut up. It still works. I ordered a spicy chicken gyro, with various fresh greens. The combination of fresh crisp lettuce and deliciously spiced chicken filled me with an elation only equaled three times in my life: My first kiss, my first marriage and my first John Mayer Tweet. Walked up here to get a bite of lunch while waiting for my tires to be rotated and glad I did. Upon walking in, I was readily greeted with a friendly smile and hello. I was asked what I wanted and I hadn't quite decided. The response was, "No problem, take your time". It didn't take too long to receive my gyro and once I did, I was glad I didn't order a plate. The gyro was more than enough food. It was PACKED with lambs meat and I had a hard time finishing it. Overall, it was good and for a decent price, about $5.50 for the sandwich. My 9-year-old son and I stopped in here on the way back from his first day at his nearby new school, both of us hungry beyond reason. I had the gyro salad and he had a gyro. The place is small and built mostly for takeout, but the unseasonably pleasant weather saw us enjoying the plastic dinette set on the sidewalk, with panoramic vistas of the parking lot and the ferociously white shoppers entering and exiting Marshall's across the way. The wait was abbreviated, and the flavors were delicate and quite right. The salad greens were crisp and not deflated and sad as they are in some places where salads are an afterthought and an obligation. Kudos to Gyro Hut for actually including bona fide veggies in their salad, and for not falling prey to the world's biggest anti-vegetable, iceberg lettuce. God I hate iceberg lettuce. I'm a peaceable person but if iceberg lettuce were a person I'd never stop killing it. This was romaine lettuce, bell peppers, cucumbers, just the right amount of feta--not overwhelming, or to the point where the salad is the least healthy thing one could order!-and not so faint you begin to wonder if the establishment is going under, and cutting corners everywhere they can. The salad was also very lightly dressed, allowing for the true flavor of the seasoned meat to preside. Here's where they lose a star. The meat was MOSTLY excellent, but some pieces were dry and overcooked and kind of tough like beef jerky. The ratio was like 1 to 8 for those pieces, but they were a bummer. I almost gave it 3 stars because those pieces sucked. But the rest was fantastic, and I blame the experience on having arrived at that weird dead zone between lunch and dinner. read more

The only thing I can think of is the location. Conveniently located by the mall and a bunch of stores. CONS: 1. Rude cashier/staff. I ordered what I thought was a "felafel gyro" and he said "you mean felafel sandwich." I said, no, I want the "felafel gyro wrap." And he said, "gyro has beef/lamb. If you want felafel, it's called a sandwich." I'm like, "Okay, well you knew what I meant. No need to be a dick about it." 2. Horribly burnt felafel. I couldn't even taste the garbanzo bean mixture. So I try to order online for delivery. The website is difficult with broken links and poor user experience. Finally make it through and place a $25.48 order for delivery. Says they are 7.8 miles away. Easy right? WRONG. 47 mins later after the 2 confirmation emails arrive (one on food, one for new customer account) a male person calls yelling at me in a loud voice that they dont deliver to my location and that I should have known this that the website was wrong, etc. Frankly, I am the customer and don't need to be yelled at for purchasing food using his website and service that clearly stated that was within his delivery zone. I politely tell him that he doesnt need to deliver the food as it was nearly an hour since it was ordered and confirmed; I no longer wish to use their service. I have had two items on the menu here, and both were pretty good. The gyro is large, filled with a generous portion of juicy gyro meat and a ton of veggies. It's like a large middle eastern burrito. Fries that came with the combo were a little oily and soggy, however. I have also had the chicken schwarma. Generous portion of tender chicken sauteed in spicy sauce of some sort. Strip mall or no, the Gyro Hut makes a mean gyro! And when I say mean, I mean DELICIOUS. I myself tried the chicken shawarma sandwich, while the B.F. tried the traditional gyro sandwich with fries and a Coke. Both sandwiches were enormous, and did not skimp on the meaty type element. The shawarma was saucy and very flavorful (reminiscent of curry spices), and as they asked whether I wanted it spicy or extra spicy. I had to go with extra! It wasn't make you cry to your mommy hot, but it was just enough to make my lips tingle. Always a good sign. I have to repeat that these sandwiches were as big as your head. Don't think that you *must" order the fries (they give you a boatload of those as well!). The owner took our orders and was very friendly and courteous. Our meals took a fair amount of time, but you have to know it's because they are not just throwing this stuff in the microwave. I will gladly wait for a piece of mediterranean heaven at the Gyro Hut anytime. If you are in the Northgate vicinity, you know that it is not exactly flush with decent food options. The owner of this place is so polite and friendly no matter how busy they are. I have tried there lamb gyro, gyro salad, baklava and garlic mayo fried and boy is it good! The meat is juicy and tender and will make you drool when you smell it cooking. Stopped in on a whim as we were shopping nearby. Laid back, informal place. Very friendly, but genuine, staff. You order at the counter and they bring your food. I had a gyros salad. The gyros was high quality, tzatziki dressing was creamy and well balanced. Finally stole a bite of my sweetie's falafel through careful use of distraction. I could see why she had been guarding it. Tender and flavorful....not gritty. Baklava was had. I don't understand desserts. I was informed by my knowledgeable dining partner that this was good although possibly not the greatest in the world. I fell in love with gyros after trying their gyro meal here. I have thought about trying other items off the menu, but why diverge from something so delicious? They do not hold back when it comes to meat - I've tried gyros from other places and almost literally cried over the size differences. And it's sooo good! It's like 70% meat and 30% vegetables, sauce, AND bread. And these are big portions. Their fries are a great snack to your gyro, but you should sometimes ask for the garlic mayo fries (I think there may be an additional fee, but worth it!). The meal is so filling. I am a glutton and eating the full meal is a challenge for me. I always try to make my meal a little healthier by ordering the diet soda. The staff is also great and friendly. Tucked away in a corner of a small, random strip mall off Northgate Way, Gyro Hut seems like it's so buried that no one would ever find it. But I've found myself here at least twice for meals, and they seem to do pretty steady business. We stopped in at an off hour between lunch and dinner, but despite the odd hour, there was a continuous stream of people placing and picking up to-go orders. It's a smallish space with only a few tables, and it seems like their regulars know this and mostly take orders to go. We ordered a gyro and a gyro platter, and our food took a fairly long time to come out. Eventually the guy wandered out and told us that they had to make a fresh batch of rice and were waiting on that, and when our food did come out, he brought us a free piece of baklava. Still, it was sad to watch people coming in, placing orders, and leaving with their food while we waited... and waited. It felt like takeout orders get priority over diners eating in, which is a bit strange. Overall, their service is friendly and they seem pretty accommodating and open to substitutions and special orders (from what I heard listening to other customers placing orders). The prices are comparable to other gyro places, if not as cheap as the places in the U-district. Our food was good, but not really worth the long wait, and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again (unless the only other option was the mall food court). read more

I have utterly no idea how this place is received so many high ratings. It is definitely not anything close to a restaurant. It has an almost run-down shack like feeling to it. The food is very basic, and definitely not worth the price. If all I wanted was some lousy meat slammed in a Pita bread I could do that at home, for a much better quality with much lower price. They serve their drinks in a can (which also means no refills). Also the staff are not friendly (not exceptionally rude, but not friendly either). This is one of my current faves. I think it's a pretty good deal for the portion size. I usually get the Gyros combo-nice sized Gyro, fries and a can of soda. I've tried their hummous, and enjoyed it and it is my style-creamy, not too much garlic, without that cumin flavor some hummous' have (which I hate). My friend got the shwarma and liked it, but it was a little spicy to me. Their tzatiki is a nice blend of cucumber to garlic and dill, and I usually get some to dip the fries in. I was headed to Taco Del Mar and saw the sign of the place. I had the Jumbo Gyro with feta. The flavors were great, however I like a few more veggies in my gyro. Next time I'll try it with baba or hummus. The menu has good variety with great prices. The owner is very friendly and you can tell interested in you enjoying your food. I absolutely love this place! This is my go to place when I'm too lazy to cook, am sick of pizza (it does happen people), and when I just want some tasty food! I always get the chicken shawarma plate which consists of a Greek salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, feta, yum...), tzatziki sauce, white rice and delicious, moist (he he he) chicken. A warm and perfectly soft pita also comes with the plate. I'm always so surprised by the quality of food, as the prices are pretty affordable. Whoever thinks cheap prices comes with cheap food has not visited Gyro Hut! Although the food is always delicious, the spiciness does tend to lean on the low side. If you order your food mild or medium spicy, you may be somewhat dismayed. My husband and I occasionally dine in, although the space is on the smaller side, offering room for maybe 10-12 people if you're lucky. We typically order to go. Keep in mind that regardless of whether you are dining in or getting food to go, it does take some time for your food to be prepared. I recommend ordering to go before you arrive, or gently banter with your friends/colleagues if you decide to dine in. While there is a slight wait time (approx. 10 min), it's not inconveniently long, and I actually appreciate that they're making my food fresh upon ordering, rather than having everything pre-made and dry or overcooked. I would recommend eating here, rather than take out as the food doesn't travel well even though I live relatively close [the Greek fries were soggy and semi-unedible :(]. Had a snack here while waiting to get my tire fixed next door. Gyro wrap and chicken shawarma plate came out to almost $20! Didn't seem to add up. We ordered for dine-in and for some reason it seemed to take a really long time, as in 10-15 minutes. I suppose if they cook the chicken (and rice) to order, it would take that long, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for most teriyaki joints. Hubbband said the gyro was pretty good. From the looks of it, they could have included a few more slices of meat and less lettuce filler. The chicken plate was a bit bland overall. Needed more salt, garlic, marinade, anything. I'm a big fan of gyros in general so when I looked this place up and read all the reviews I knew I had to stop by. Yes it is located in a little strip mall, and yes, the outside isn't pleasing to the eye but as cliche as it may sound.. don't judge a book by its cover. It's a really small, cozy restaurant and by really small I mean, 4 tables with only 2 seats per table and 3 stools by the window. With that being said, gyro hut doesn't accommodate many people so I suggest getting your food to-go. I came in around 6:30 and there was someone at each table, the cashier was nice and patient. I ordered 1 lamb gyro with a side of Greek fries, and I waited for about 15 mins. After being stuck in Seattle traffic for about 45 minutes I finally made it home and tore into my food, and it was just as good as people said it would be. Lamb was perfectly cooked/ seasoned, pita was nice and soft, and veggies tasted fresh. The Greek fries on the other hand were okay, a bit too greasy, and inconsistent in texture.. some fries were either too hard or too soggy. I also want to mention the amount of food you get, which is A LOT. I didn't even finish my gyro, and the fries were definitely good enough for 2 hungry adults. All in all, I'm a happy customer, love the atmosphere and the food, so happy I stopped by. I will be back for my next gyro fix! read more

My experience here was a 10 (er, I mean 5)! Lots of happy, smiling regulars, great price ($4.99 for a good-sized falafel sandwich - lettuce very crispy, nicely spiced sauce, etc.). The atmosphere (i don't mean decor) was delightful and relaxing, and I quickly saw why: A man came in asking if anyone had jumper cables, and the owner made sure HE got taken care of, too. In other words, it's a real neighborhood joint. And we really NEED places like that in mall-ville areas like Northgate. So support this nice family, and enjoy their happy customers - - you'll feel right at home. My only disappointment was that my sandwich was a little dry. While noticing that, though, an older guy came in, saying "FEED ME, SEYMOUR!" (look it up) which made me laugh. Then he and his crew ordered extra sauce. Hmmm......... (What isn't in a strip mall in Northgate?) very near the 24hr fitness which is how I happened upon the place. Good Gyros. Not as good as Mr. Gyro in Greenwood, but a good alternative. I thought that the tzatziki sauce they used was a little bland. Everything else wasn't too bad but they need to do something with the tzatziki. Excellent customer service though. A great chicken gyro makes my mouth happy and Gyro Hut does them right. I hate ordering chicken gyros made with chunks of chicken! Gyro Hut gives me the flat strips just like the real thing. I come here because it's in my neighborhood, the food is good, and the owners are nice and friendly. They always seem happy to see me and they remember who I am even if I haven't been in recently. I hate to admit, but I'd never had schwarma before (I know, what's WRONG with me????). So I said yes (because why not?) and he said, "I can make it spicy too" and I said, "OMG DO IT". Turns out, you can't make better decisions in life. It had the tzatziki / white yogurt sauce (shoot me, I don't know for sure) as well as the Vietnamese garlic chili sauce and the chicken had the best, perfectly seared and charbroiled flavor. Prices seemed very reasonable and I got the Lamb/Beef gyro. I could smell the aroma as I was driving home and was pleasantly surprised how wonderful it was.
