We looked up reviews on yelp and this seems to be the best spot in Houston so we figured why not! I usually get the lamb rice platter but due to their reviews being so good I was in the mood to try something new so I got the Combo rice platter with extra white sauce and 3 lines of hot sauce. Today was my second time visiting Gyro King. It is a yellow food truck located in a Chevron gas station parking lot. The yellow color made it very easy to find! I went at around 1pm today, a Thursday, and it was not crowded! There was only one person in front of me and I was able to order very quickly. I ordered the chicken gyro. I received my gyro in less than 2min. I thought the gyro was a little expensive...but I was pleased to find it was a very good-sized portion and warm..which for $8 it definitely should be. The chicken gyro was amazing...it had plenty of sauce and was not dry like other chicken gyros I have had other places. I wanted to love this place so much. I used ubereats to get my order. While the experience of that was very good, my order did not turn out as I thought. I've been waiting to try this place out for so long and with all the great reviews from my fellow yelpers I thought for sure it would be hands down delicious I was quickly disappointed. Paid extra for more sauce cause I'm the sauce person. Got the white and red sauce. The portion is okay. Was kind of weird to pay extra for lettuce. But I did. If it wasn't for the meat being good I could easily have just given this place a 2 star. I'll give it an extra star for the meat.... other than that everything else was a huge disappointment. HAPPY to have found my new, regular halal truck :) The rice isn't too greasy like some places, and the lamb is plentiful with flavor. I especially enjoyed the good amount of fennel in it. I didn't get veggies in mine, but that was probably because they didn't have any during the hurricane. The white sauce is quite tasty and creamy. My only complaint is the red sauce isn't spicy enough, but that's just a matter of preference. I would ask for extra a red sauce if you can handle average spice. They made a great chicken salad with the shawarma chicken and hot, fresh gyro wrap. The salad is made with pickled vegetables which were very good. I really liked their juices. Excellent!!! I lived near by for years and sort of ignored the little food truck in the Chevron station. Boy was I missing out! The food here is excellent and the employees are super friendly. When it gets hot out they even have free water for when you are standing and waiting. Finally found a place in Houston that resembles the halal from NYC. The meat is seasoned well and full of flavor. The portions are big as well. My only tip would be to include a few pieces of pita bread with the platters and get a better hot sauce (it tasted a bit generic). I would definitely go back here though. read more

Directions Google map is accurate. It's in the same lot as Chevron, you can't miss it! They have limited parking, but you can always park at the gas station. Decor Big bright yellow food truck, nuff said! They do have a couple dank tables and chairs if you really want to sit down or ya know, to-go bro. Service If you catch them right at opening, service is extremely fast, like literally one minute for my order to come out! At lunch time you could wait up to like 10-15 minutes if it's crowded. Food You can't go wrong with the lamb! I usually get their gyro or over rice. You have to option of putting their sauce on top or on the side. Their spicy sauce isn't that spicy, more like a mild but a nice kick of flavor. The lamb is moist and full of flavor, but I always find myself parched and thirsty if I eat too much. Nothing a Gatorade can't save you from. If you get full easily like myself, the lamb over rice gives you enough food for two meals, mo bang for your buck! Would I come back? Each of us paid about $9.49 (tax included), and it was a very good price for the portion we got. The portion filled up the entire take out box, and there was a balanced amount of meat, veggies (cucumber, onions, and lettuce), and rice. The white sauce was great, spices were perfect, but if you want you can get extra white sauce for 25¢! Service took about 5 minutes, but it wasn't a busy night so not too sure about their rushed hour. Overall, I will definitely be coming by again, and will probably order a lamb gyro next time! This place has easily moved up to one of my favorite for take-out places. Gyro King is a food truck located on a parking lot of a gas station near the medical district. They have a few options to choose from so it shouldn't take you too long to decide. The guys who run the truck are super nice so I appreciate that! My favorite is the lamb and chicken combo and like their other entrees, it comes with rice and lettuce with their special sauce. You can ask for the sauce on the side. I thought the meats were tender and juicy the few times I've been here. I also like their juices a lot! The juices are not readily made so they can take a while to make. The juices are not crazily expensive so it was worth a wait. Portion is great so I thought it was bang for your buck.
