Delicious food and friendly service, great for takeout. Excellent falafel, gyros and shawarma.

I've driven by Gyro Time several times as Greenwood Avenue is my favorite route from Shoreline to/from Seattle's Greenwood-Phinney Ridge-Tangletown-Wallingford neighborhoods. So based on the previous Yelpers posts and the recent write up by Nicole Sprinkle in last week's Seattle Weekly (http://www.seattleweekly.com/food/the-halal-place-you-havent-heard-of/)....this very exhausted Yelper just wanted something new, no frills, and reasonably priced. Gyro Time is conveniently located near 105th/Greenwood in that compact strip mall that also has a Chinese/dim sum place, pupusas, produce shop to name a few landmarks. As I was parking my car around 815pm (10/25/17), there was a person who was just starting to have a smoke break. Turns out that was Mr. Romman, the owner. As he realized that I was an actual customer, he followed me into his restaurant shortly thereafter. I appreciated that he thoroughly washed and dried his hands before greeting me and taking my order. This very exhausted Yelper who happens to be a QC microbiologist duly took notice of that awesome food safety act. Small indie hole in the wall place, open for about 2 1/2 months and definitely proud of his SW write up. My takeout order included #5 Gyro Sandwich ($6.50), #15 Dolmas (6 pieces, $4.50), and one baklava selected by me from the pastry case ($2.75) with tax and tip came to under $18. Service was pleasant and food service was expedient. When he learned this was my first visit, he also offered a free beverage. I kindly declined since I already had a Moroccan Mint iced tea from another café in my car. Once I got home I plated it for the requisite Yelp photo. Upon initial appearance, the gyro was loaded with shredded lettuce, cucumber, gyro meat chunks, combo tzaziki and hummus sauce, and garnished with a thin pickle. Different, but the meat was really the exclamation point. I could have ditched everything and had just the meat with the thick, warm pita. The dolmas brings me back to my culinary volunteer days. These were chilled with a sauce garnish, but nice and tender. Both of these items were very filling, to the point I had to feed some of it to another family member. The baklava, however, was all mine. Perfect ratio of honey, nuts, and phyllo layers. My favorite. Five stars for the owner's welcoming, enthusiatic demeanor, super clean establishment, super fast takeout, tasty gyro meat, and one of the best baklavas I've had in awhile. However, the gyros and dolmas, were just okay as my taste buds still favor places specifically like Nikos in Magnolia, Petra in Belltown, Mashawi by Seattle Center/Queen Anne, and the Greek takeout spot at Pike Place Market. read more

Greek music playing in the background with a reasonable volume--conversion still possible. This is more of a fast food / ToGo kind of place. Very clean place. Limited parking in front. New customers get a free drink from the cooler. Gyro combo meal is $8.50 on a poster to the left of the menu. Comes with drink, fries, and a gyro. Can be a good deal for on the go meals. Service: order and pay at the front. Seat yourself. Food delivered to you. Bus your own table. I'm thankful for those extra napkins provided on your tray! Delicious food and good sized portions. We've done take out only but the food is still great by the time we get home. The chicken gyro plate and gyro sandwich are both favorites, as well as the Greek fries. $10 for the Greek fries but it's a big portion and soooo good. Highly recommend. I tried the chicken gyro sandwich but honestly was a little underwhelmed by the chicken; I actually wonder if they gave me chicken schwarma instead as it was more shredded chicken and I think I was expecting kebabs or something similar to the chicken gyro plate. Best Mediterranean food and customer service I've found in Seattle. It's family owned, and ran by friends and family. Everything's so tender and flavorful, everyone's smiling, and the owners son Moath is super welcoming. He gave me a free desert my first time in that was SO GOOD and I was hooked. I could recommend everything here, anything lamb is my favorite though. And the food comes out FAST like 5 minutes usually. read more

I appreciate places that have food, and love places that have food that are go to, or the regulars, and this place hits that spot. To those whom have not had the opportunity to check this place out, beware, it's not a looker. What it looks like is something that doesn't seem like it should have any positive reviews. Next to a liquor shop, a fruit stand, burger place, and Chinese food, stands a gem of a shop. It's all about good food, and everything else is just there as a requirement. Also, before I continue, their shop had a very good food safety rating, to that's worth noting. So what keeps me coming here? Could it be the awesome fries? maybe the warm pita? or perhaps it's the desserts? Well, hate to break it to you, it's all of it, and more... meaty more. The meat here is what makes it. It's what works, and works well. Whether you decide it's something for a sandwich, or on top of greens, it's lamb meat is delicious. That's my go to there, is the Gyro salad. It's a wonderful low-crab delight, that tastes great. The wife gets the Gyro sandwich, which is equally yummy and fantastic. The seasoning is on point and the greens are well dressed. The sauces are on point, and really, the dishes here are lookers, even if the overall visual isn't. Excellent food and customer service!! My wife and I do a lot of traveling and stop for lamb where ever we go and this by far has been the best! Juicy, flavorful, and excellent grill flavor! This place is a limited service, take-away spot which is something I think we are sorely lacking in the Greenwood area. I've only eaten here once and had a falafel salad. I'm almost always disappointed in falafel in Seattle because it's usually made from a mix or from chickpea flour-- which is just not the same as making them from crushed pulses. Here, they do it right. My salad also included a hefty portion of delicious pickles and lots of tahini. A surprisingly delicious & satisfying lunch at a reasonable price. I'll be back! (a quick side-note on the interior. I think this place used to be a Subway shop and it still has that feel. This is a very casual take-away dining experience. But, the food is great!) read more

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would! Just ate dinner there tonight with my family and it was such a fun dining experience! It's a little hole in the wall joint, but don't let that fool you! :) The people who work there (I assume it's a family business) were so incredibly nice and welcoming from the first moment we walked in to the moment we left. They ended up giving us a couple of complimentary desserts in the beginning, which were so good! Then we all ordered a variety of things and everything was delicious! I had the Gyro Salad, which was amazing on its own! I loved the house dressing and the gyro meat was super tender - Very fresh; the tomatoes were even delicious!! The hummus was wonderful, super creamy and seasoned well. And the dolmas (one of my favorites) tasted perfect! I would eat those all day long if I could lol. Falafel was great, melt in your mouth with a little crunch from the crispy outside and the Chicken gyro was mom's favorite. They ended up treating us some drinks from the fridge too - which was above and beyond! And we brought my baby niece in to eat with us and they were very accommodating. It was just an all around great experience. We live a block away from here and on the walk home, we couldn't stop raving about how good the food was and how we couldn't wait to come back! :) I suggest everyone eat here at least once! Doesn't look like anything special outside, but my gyro was very tasty! Spicier than expected, but I like spicy...so it worked perfectly for me! Similar to other locations I've dined recently, I'm not sure this place qualifies as a one (1) $ location...not sure where the line is drawn if bumping it up to two (2) $$...but it seems like all the places in Seattle break the $10-barrier for a simple $ rating...in my case, the Gyro alone was $10.99...with tax that ended up at $12.10...and if I'd wanted to make it a combo (fries & a drink), it would have tacked on an additional $5 ($4.99; prior to tax) which would have made this pretty damn close to a $20 lunch! In my opinion, that's a bit steep for a quick bite to eat...I have a hard time coughing up $5 for fired and carbonated water with syrup...so I opted to go with the gyro only. We ordered a mixed veggie plate (falafel, roasted cauliflower, baba ganoush, hummus, salad) and shish tawook (chicken skewers, rice, salad, hummus). Everything was delicious. Portions are good, service is awesome and friendly every time we come. They warm up the pita that comes with your plate. The texture of the hummus and the baba ganoush were really nice - not grainy or slimy, and the perfect thickness to feel substantial but not pasty. The garlic sauce is amazing - we could eat that on ANYTHING. We'll definitely be back! read more

Sometimes it's gyro time, sometimes it's taco time. For my brother sometimes it's time for both. I went to my brother's house yesterday and saw an empty bag on the table that said Taco Time. Later that night we got food from Gyro Time. He was able to make time for tacos and gyros. I'm still trying to learn how to manage my time. I'd imagine if I ever came across restaurants that were called Biryani Time and Burrito Time, I'd follow my brother's footsteps and find a way to make time for both. There are just some things in life you need to make time for. For my brother it's gyros and tacos and for me it's biryani and burritos. Sometimes I'm not intentional in the way I spend my time, it feels like it's being wasted. Time just passes passively and I have no idea where it goes. At least when I went to Gyro Time, I was reminded exactly where my time was going...towards eating delicious gyros. The time I spent eating these gyros was definitely time well spent. read more

This is my first time having Mediterranean food because it just never appealed to me, but I wanted to try it here since it has 5 stars. I wish I could give this a higher rating because the person working was really nice and had a positive attitude. I just didn't like the food very much. Gyro sandwich (no.5): has a heavy amount of meat, but its texture and chewiness is like the pho meatballs with more marination. Lettuce, tomato, and cucumber taste very ordinary. Beef and lamb entree (no.1)- not a lot of content for the price. It's basically a gyro with hummus and rice, but it's almost double in price. Not a very comfortable eating experience because the interior is small with a couple tables, and the overall atmosphere was quiet and cold (i came here Sunday night). read more

Bottom line first: I had THE tastiest falafel I HAVE EVER EATEN! I did not expect that when I walked in to Gyro Time today and ordered the #10: Falafel Mediterranean Plates. It came with 6 LARGE falafel, a salad, tahini sauce, warm pita bread and 2 tasty portions of differently seasoned hummus. A little bit of this and that. The surprise was THE FALAFEL! -Perfectly crispy on the outside, and inside: moist and savory that melted in my mouth. Crunch & melt. Killer combo! These were NOT the usual over-fried balls with a dense and dry texture inside. WHO KNEW that something so "basic" could be elevated to what I would definitely call haute cuisine status. I mentioned to Mohammed how tasty and exceptional I thought they were. He confessed that the falafel recipe at Gyro Time is his own. It's not like they're filled with a feta stuffed olive or anything ( though that DOES sound crazy-delicious, now that I think of it.) His are just SO MUCH BETTER than all the rest! So... ...here's the part where I'm going to veer off a bit. I know no one will read all of this rambling review, so I'm just gonna journal some things, right here. M'kay? As I sat by the window and savored that meal, back in the kitchen I could hear Mohammed singing. (I asked him his name when I paid my bill later). It wasn't in English, and for some reason, that just made me really happy. Here in the midst of covid-19, there are many people on edge and fearful. Then... there's so much anger and conflict going on, much of it political in nature: Masks / No Masks, Black Lives Matter, Protests, Police Brutality, and Trump being,... well...Trump. I've been watching and studying a lot online these last few months, so I've been a little "immersed" in the discord in our country. It's been a LOT to process while trying to maintain objectivity and my sanity. Here was this lovely voice, coming from a man who simply sounded a bit more content than most people. There was a lightness to his song. That's my take on it at least, and that's why I started to cry...right there...sitting at a table...the only person in the dining room. I just LOST IT. -Such a beautiful gift of kindness... he didn't even know he gave to me. Oh, I forgot to mention; Besides first being at home alone on furlough for 2 months, I then got a really bad case of pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. When I got better they sent me home and that's where I'd been for another two months as I healed. So that's 4 MONTHS with virtually NO CONTACT with people. This was my first outing and for some reason, falafel sounded good. Not only is the food making me incredibly happy.... then Mohammed started to sing. Quietly. Not a performance, but a half-step above humming to himself. All I can say is my heart opened up to how lonely I'd been...and how sweet it was to be in that moment, in the company of a living, breathing person letting music flow from their heart. I now realize, as I've just read this back to myself, I sound like I'm HIGH, which wouldn't be an odd or bad thing here in Seattle. I just wasn't. I'd been on a person-to-person, face-to-face FAST and some simple human contact just about un-did me. Well, it sorta did. It's that simple. Thankfully, my face leaked a few drops shy of an Ugly Oprah Cry. I'm single and live alone, so I hadn't had a spouse, or family to navigate shared spaces for a longer duration than normal....for better or worse! Or KIDS! Geeze. I can't IMAGINE how all the parents with kids have been dealing with this. (You can mix Xanax with wine, right?) There can also be a flip side to the downside to sheltering-in-place. For example: several of my neighbors have been using some of the "extra time" they've had, doing different home improvement projects, inside and outside. I admire their energy and focus. OK... ....so here's the takeaway: 1) Gyro Time : GO! It's our neighborhood hidden gem. 2) Mohammed is a very nice man, and if you're lucky, you just may hear him singing in the kitchen while he prepares his unique & delicious falafel! read more

So impressed with this place on so many levels. It was a Sunday evening during the heat wave and we were in the area from out of town and SO hungry. Everywhere we tried to stop to eat was either closed due to the heat or so full they stopped taking orders. We came in here and the three girls we saw were working their tails off! They took our order and let us know ahead of time it would be a little bit of a wait. The front girl was kind the whole time even though she was clearly so busy. We sat and waited for our order. She kept checking in with people to let them know how close their order was to being done. We finally got our food and ate back at our place. It was DELICIOUS! I think I might be falling in love with my local Gyro shop. I've been going more often and trying new things. Last week was the Chicken Gyro sandwich and an order of Baba Ghannouj. The Baba Ghannouj was so delicious! I had plenty left over so I served it at a gathering of friends and people loved it. Today I splurged and order the Greek Fries, topped with garlic sauce and feta cheese. From the first bite, wow, the tang of the garlic and feta served with perfectly crisped fries. Yum! Next up the Kufta Kabab Sandwich with the smoky cooked ground beef and flame grilled garlic was excellent. read more

This is literally the best place ever! My boyfriend and I have been twice, the first time we didn't expect much but we were wow-ed! We got a beef and lamb gyro and then a chicken one, both were amazing with the freshest ingredients! Delish! The way the chicken is seasoned is curry like so if you don't like that flavor stray away. The second time we went we go the beef and lamb entree as well as a chicken entree. The entrees are awesome because it comes with rice and all the meat like a gyro does with pitas on the side! It also comes with the veggies and hummus, perfect for a dinner!! Gyros are perfect for a lunch. One of the employees did say that if you want a lot of food get the gGreek salads so that is next on my menu to try as well as the fries! read more

The owner (I think he's the owner) is often there and he always polite, friendly and welcoming and he and his team make a fine gyro. Everything always tastes fresh and delicious, but be sure to ask for a bit more Tzatziki sauce if you're really after that garlicy, messy sandwich like I am. I went in agitated tonight by something that happened earlier and I was sort of rushing through my order. This place has great food and the staff is nice, but it always is a bit pricier than I expect it to be. The prices on Yelp are not accurate and then they tend to upsize you. Example, today I ordered a falafel sandwich ($6.99 per menu on Yelp) and fries ($3.00). The total cost when I picked it up was $15 and change. Both prices were incorrectly listed and of course they gave me a large fry with my single sandwich order. Next time I'll be sure to say "small fry" but would appreciate a bit more transparency and accuracy. read more

Solid kufta, and chicken sammiches. I don't bother to rate gyros, as everyone in Seattle uses the same source to my knowledge. The chicken I think gives the best flavor balances, absorbing their spice mix and offset by the lemony garlic sauce. Big fan of ordering with extra hummus (very smooth, well balanced) and pita (always order extra). A lemon-forward tabouleh to mix with it all, rounds out a meal nicely. I haven't seen it available there, but I always keep a solid block of feta at home to round everything out. It's a go to "don't wanna cook tonight" meal. read more

This place has been kind of inconsistant for each of my visits since my original 5 star review. I've ordered the same sandwich each time but what I end up with seems to vary quite a bit between visits. For the most part, the chicken gyros have been between pretty decent to really good; however the last two visits were between disappointing and bad. The last sandwich tasted and looked like leftover scraped up bits recooked in old oil. I don't know if I've hit two off nights or if staff and management have changed hands. Sorry, but not taking any more chances...time to find a new local gyro place. read more

Gyro Time opened less than a month ago, and based on my first experience there, it's pretty stellar. The owner is extremely warm and welcoming, and there is definitely some care given to you and your order. I had the kufta kabab sandwich at about 3 pm, not having eaten much all day. The sandwich was not only massive, but not as messy as the ones at most other gyro places. The kufta was freshly grilled in front of me, and it tasted as such. Well-seasoned beef with fresh parsley and onion thrown in for good measure. They also have the usual spongy gyro on a spit, as well as some shawarma options. The owner mentioned that over time they hope to have real meat on a spit, and I look forward to that day. read more

I saw this place highlighted on Yelp a little while back and I am always looking for a new middle eastern/gyros place to try. So tonight, I was in the area and thought I'd pop in. The shop was very clean and smelled really good! I ordered the gyros and they were pretty good. They could have been a bit more flavorful (sear them a bit more for flavor!), but overall they were good, and the veggies were very fresh and the portion was large.
