The chicken breast was raw inside & my coworker breast was still bleeding inside and the other breast was cold in the inside and not cooked. Saw this soulfood restaurant on Yelp on our way to Atlanta. Arrived early as the first customers. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered their famous chicken biscuit with all the fixings (including a fried egg on top) and a side of cheese grits. Now the fresh and juicy chicken biscuit combo was great with fresh preserves on the side. The only improvement needed was to season the chicken before its fried to develop full flavor. The cheese grits also needed seasoning (salt and pepper) and were too watery/thin for my taste. read more

Midnight Rider with an egg over easy, side of okra, coffee and water This is what brings me joy when I'm in Macon on any day I have off work. I had a friend who complained about the service and one time I went and I was a little frustrated but for the most part service is awesome. Simple home cooked soul food with the musical history that brings out of towners and locals alike back for the experience. Lots of Allman Brothers memorabilia up for display on the wall! Breakfast for me is where H & H hits the mark, and they have a newly redesigned breakfast biscuit menu with several more options to choose from. I recently tried the Midnight Rider that's made with Dovetail's bacon jam and oh man, that's the biscuit you write home about, y'all! Fried chicken, pimento cheese, and add an egg to it for perfection on a biscuit! Ask for some of the homemade preserves and try them on your biscuit, or order a separate biscuit for them as 'dessert'. The fire roasted apple slices will do the trick here too. Lunch is a typical meat plus two sides offering with meats and sides on a rotation by day. You can check their menu online ahead of time for which are available each day of the week. It's a lot of food, and a meat plus one side is more than enough for me but you can also take leftovers home if you can't decide or want a meal with more variety. Prices here are so reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get! $10 should get you a hefty meal, including a drink, either for lunch or breakfast. My family and I were all in town after we lost our grandmother and we came the day after her memorial service for breakfast with a party of 9. The restaurant is small, but they were extremely accommodating to our large party. The largest party they can take is about six, but they made it work for us. We did have to wait a bit for seating, but that's to be expected with such a large party. The food was delicious. Yes I agree with previous reviewer's that certain things could use more seasoning, but it's helpful when you have people with dietary restrictions in your party as they can add more salt and pepper is needed. We were there on a Saturday morning so we ate brunch and had a little bit of everything. My favorite was the waffle. It was delicious and I also enjoyed biscuits, mac, and toast. For some reason our food took longer than you would expect for a large party and it was a little offputting because we were also hungry and waiting so patiently. For the most part the staff was very sweet and the chef even came out to explain that the online orders had slowed down our order. It could have been a poor experience, but the staff was very communicative and they explained everything to us and got our food out right away. We even got to try some peach cobbler on the house because The chef wanted to leave us with a positive experience. Most restaurants would have maybe just expected you to be patient and get over it, but the chef which is also the owners brother came out to greet us communicate with us and brought us dessert. It was a wonderful ending to a sad trip for our family. I will definitely return and I would recommend stopping in to at least give it a try. read more

Appetizer was tiny for $6 but our meals were good portions. The way they batter their fish with the cornmeal it doesn't stay on the fish but still seasoned good had to be gentle with it lol. What a lucky find! We stopped in Macon to spend the night on our way to Florida. Looking for a breakfast spot in the morning, H&H popped up as one of the few open at 7:30am. There is convenient and free 2 hour parking in an adjacent lot. The restaurant is clean and employees and cooks were wearing masks. We ordered the H&H standard and the mystic biscuits. Highlights: the BACON. Thick-sliced, super crispy, and perfect in every way. Hashbrown casserole is a must as well as the mystic biscuits. Breakfast and drinks for 3 of us was $32. Best Biscuit Breakfast In Georgia that I have had. The service was great and the place was full of the music ghosts that made Macon great.

When I lived in Macon (2011-12), I went to H and H frequently. It was a great dive place for breakfast. Went back this past Friday (11/17) while I was in Macon. Not good. 1) Slow service. 2) Nothing special to the breakfast. 3) Small portions. 4) Bill came before the food (not a big deal, but it was curious). 5) $12 with tip, for 2 eggs, small cup of cheese grits, biscuit (which was really good), coffee, and a link of sausage that wasn't as big around as my pinky, and half as long. I'll be skipping H and H in the future, so I can keep my fond memories of how good it used to be. read more

Horrible service! We waited over 30 minutes to be sat and an hour for the food! The host didn't bother to sit anyone, with another member of the staff telling him to sit people. Growing up in the middle Ga area H&H was a go to for great southern comfort soul food. I'm glad to see the Moonhanger Group carrying on the legacy of the Mama Hill and Mama Louise. The service was fast and friendly and the food was oh so good like I remember years ago. So much history at this restaurant in downtown Macon that it needs to be on your list of must experience. There's so much salt on the dishes. I could hear the dish singing "push it". I decided to check it out on my lunch break a few weeks ago. The price was decent and the atmosphere was cool. I live for those hole in the wall basic local spots. We came here this morning for breakfast. I had the PBJ French toast and my daughter had the Red dog. The bacon was not done, the PBJ lacked peanut butter and it was lightly prinkled with a berry sauce that did not reach all the slices. The Red dog, which were told was a favorite..the poached egg was left as is but in a vinegary pool. Horrible service. Was seated right away. However after our server got our drink order she didn't come back to to the table another 15-20 min. After taking our order we waited an hour and still didn't get food. Asked for the manager and were promised it would be another 4-5 min for our food with no apology. Horrible customer service!
