I was referred by a friend who said good things about this location. I called to make an appointment, left a detailed voicemail, and waited. One week later, nobody had called me back. Wanting to be fair, I called again a week later. This time I reached a woman and tried to make an appointment. I explained that I'd previously left a message, but nobody called me back. She said the owner, Raymond, had been on vacation. It's unclear if the owner is the only employee allowed to return voicemails or why nobody else could be bothered to return my call. Whatever the reason, she never apologized or acknowledged the inconvenience. I asked when I could make an appointment and she said Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. When I told her Fridays worked best, she said the owner worked on Fridays and wasn't accepting any new clients. I then questioned why she'd offer me a Friday appointment since the owner is supposedly the only person who works on Fridays and isn't accepting new clients. She indicated that because I'm a referral, he might be willing to make an exception and said he'd contact me the following week once he returned from vacation. That was 10 days ago and nobody ever called back or expressed any interest in helping me. I've been an H&R Block customer for 20 years and this sort of unprofessional behavior is off-putting. I plan to work with another H&R Block location that is more professional, communicative, and responsive. Sorry, I gave you folks a couple of opportunities and you let me down both times. I've been going to this H&R Block location for several years now. I went in October 2023 to have my 2021 and 2022 taxes prepared (yes, I was a bit behind). When I received my 2022 refund but not my 2021 refund. I left a few messages and phone calls for the tax preparer. Raymond Ng, the franchisee eventually called me back and told me my 2021 return had not been filed because the tax preparer did not do it properly and had retired. I went into the office to have the taxes completed and mailed them since the electronic submission time had expired. This year I went back and followed up on emails to the tax preparer with information she needed to complete my return. The calls and emails were not returned. Several weeks later I called and insisted on going in to have my returns completed and submitted. On 04.06.2024 I sent an email to Raymond Ng, the franchisee, with my concerns and to date I have not received an acknowledgement or response to my email. read more

Definitely worth mentioning that there are three H&R Block locations on Colorado Bvld in Pasadena, and I 100% showed up at the wrong my for my first appointment. Thankfully Raymond kept my appointment even though I was about 20 minutes late--definitely suggest opting for this location if you're in the Pasadena area as it's the only one with a parking lot (and we all know parking in Old Town is a true nightmare). I really like how Raymond is transparent and no nonsense but still so friendly and takes the time to explain everything that's going on. He helped me solve a few stock-related questions on my end and even fixed some mistakes from the past couple years that resulted in me getting a way bigger refund than expected. We had Moses prepare our taxes and we had issues with how he initially handled our taxes..well here I am again providing additional feedback because we received notice from the IRS saying our taxes were done incorrectly and that there was a miscalculation which meant we only get half of our federal refund! Ron helped me with my taxes since he got a good reviews thoight he got me pretty much everything in tax return but I was wrong. He didn't even added my mom as my dependant. Plus he asked me to pay for fees first, Again this is not the first first time I filed taxes and from the past they always deducted from my returns no need to pay upfront. I went to H R Block in Pasadena for a 15 min. appoint for a simple tax prep. I am 82, I had only a social security 1099 and one 1099 from an online tutoring platform. The appointment went on for more than hour, the staff person spoke very little English, worked at a snail's pace and needed help three times from other staffers to fill out the forms. She apologized often and seemed confused. She asked about deductions only once, when it appeared that I would pay tax this year, the first time ever. In the past, I have used the same accountant who always found deductions to balance my income. No help with that here, except for office expenses. She asked about those and included them. In the past I paid $75 for tax prep for many years. This fee at H&R Block was $282 for very poor service. Additionally, this week the feds will take $75. This fee is too high for a retired teacher who makes less than $35,000/yr. and has an extremely simple tax situation. I will not use HR Block again. read more
