Likes - variety of items compared to Chinatown - fresh sashimi, seafood, fishcakes, and meats - samples - food court/bakery: I am interested in trying it next time. The lines were ridiculous. There are only 3 restaurants - takes electronic payments like android pay - free hmart calendar and nail manicure set (for the grand opening?) Dislikes - smaller than other hmarts - tiny aisles so only one cart can go through - prices are average, most things especially the basics are more expensive than chinatown. The "deals" were marked up to begin with so it just brings it down to average TIP: BYOB Bring your own bag. Like the other stories in Chicago, they charge 7 cents/bag Overall, not overly impressed or blown away. Compared to the plentiful large super grocery stores in Georgia where everything is on sale, this was meh. While it is definitely a nice add to downtown Chicago, I won't be coming regularly to get my basic groceries but will be back for more fancy nonstandard stuff especially since the other closest Hmart is in Niles. I've been to Hmart a couple of times since it opened at varying times of the day. It is still really busy, but I'm just thrilled to have an Hmart closer to home. Parking is tight - I would suggest using the meter parking nearby. I always see lines in and out of the lot. Inside, the grocery section has everything: snacks, Korean side dishes, marinated meat, sashimi, teas, frozen items like mandu, fish cakes, etcetera. While walking through the aisles is a bit challenging because of how narrow they are, the selection makes up for it. Restaurant wise there is a Japanese place that has bento boxes, udon, soba, and tempura. There's a Korean Soondooboo restaurant, an Asian bakery, and a cafe as well. Seating is limited - be ready to pounce on seats once they become available. I can't wait to see what this place is like in a few months when the crowds die down. It has more than I could've hoped for; I'll definitely be back more often. read more

H Mart used to be one of my favorite supermarkets, but today I'm really disappointed. It's so disgusting. The ingredients are extremely not fresh, and the after-sales service is also extremely bad and uncomponsible. I bought some fish at H Mart today, two of them are salted fish, which makes me sick. When I got home, I was going to use it as our dinner. When I opened it, I washed it and put it on a plate. Then I was about to boil water and steam it. But when I look back, I found that there were maggots on the fish and they were still moving. I know that the freshness of salted fish is definitely can not compared with other fresh fish, but it won't open up maggots, right? And it's still moving. At that time, I immediately took it to the store to ask for help, but Jongchul, the manager on duty, did not give us a reasonable analysis. He just told us that it was not surprising. It had happened before. He also said that it was possible that the fish ate and did not know what caused the body to grow parasites. At that time, I was really surprised to hear this answer. Didn't you check the goods before they were put on the shelves? In addition, you also know that this is not the first time it has happened. Don't you need to check that there is something wrong with that link? Is it the problem of fish worms caused by temperature or insufficient salt or the original supply source? Don't you need to investigate and deal with it? Review for sashimi special only Covid sushi! Both Joong Boo anf HMart offer sashimi platter specials on wednesday and friday each week. You call to reserve a platter on the day of. We called downtown on jackson st hmart for one on Wednesday 10 am and Joong Boo around noon on friday in order to compare them. They are both good. The Hmart is $30 and the Joong Boo is $25 but the Joong Boo has more fish, more variety, and includes more wasabi and pickled ginger. Hmart was cut thicker, and had lots of salmon, and the tuna was richer tasting, but the joong boo had white tuna, fluke, red snapper, tuna and salmon in nearly equal proportions. Variety may change depending on what they have in stock- this was early june 2020. These are cut from frozen which is fine; bring them to room temp if you want them to taste like a restaurant. Very good deal either way but we prefer Joong Boo. My wife ordered both in Korean. read more

Will this replace my future trips to Joong Boo? I'm not sure. The location is definitely more convenient and there is a parking lot (when you can find a spot). Ok so first and foremost H Mart should not equate to the king of Asian grocery or whatever. Honestly it is vastly OVERPRICED compared to park2shop, joongboo, 88 etc. The only good things are: 1) Select vegetables and fruits you can't find ie pomelos, persimmons, krn pear, krn peppers, yuchoy, long beans. But you could also find fresher and cheaper fruits like apples and oranges at jewel, Pete's or cermak produce. So I would just come for more exotic fruits n veggies. 2) Asian snacks - thin mint oreos, salted egg chips, candy etc - best selection in town 3) Banchans- small fridged side dishes like fresh kimchi, fish cake, tofu cake, radish and others 4) LA kalbi is the best here hands down but is expensive like 30-40 dollars but the bulgolgi is very good too and is around half the price. 5) other food shops- glad they opened Toreore , best krn fried chicken! Experience: Finally, a H Mart in the city! H Mart is located right off the expressway and the Chicago Loop. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Business also includes a couple of restaurants. Parking: Parking lot is included with the business. Note, the lot is kinda small and as a result, they have limited spots. With that said, I suggest going on off days (EX: Weekdays, mornings, not weekends) Worth: H Mart has most of your Asian grocery products. Food court is very good, but tends to be in the pricey side. This location with my first introduction to H Mart. My aunt frequents this place more often than me. She decided to take me here on a trip. It's in the outskirts of Chicago, as it's so big. Came for the korean corn dogs! They were yummy but I wish they had one with a meat and cheese combo. They were only one or the other. Still good though. I'm really happy to have discovered this location, which a friend actually turned me on to. I love places where you can grab a really delicious lunch and then do some grocery shopping, and the shopping here is truly special. I've been to larger Asian groceries, but what this location lacks in grand size, it makes up for in variety and choices. I found some organic sweet potato glass noodles, an item I've previously had to buy on Amazon, and bought a lovely fresh Korean radish...I'm going to try my hand at pickled radish. I enjoy nothing more than strolling the aisles here and making new discoveries and just ogling the huge variety of sauces, noodles, condiments, rice and ramen. So Much Fun!!!! I really love this place! How awesome is it to have such a fun store/restaurant so close to your office. This place is typically billed as a grocery store. It is so much more. It is a grocery store with lots of fun goods that you wouldn't find in your typical grocery store. I purchased several face masks in the beauty section that I ADORED! I purchased kimchi and this great pineapple liquor in a can that was great. I ended up walking up and down the aisles for almost two hours. Too many fun things to look at. There is a section of the store with food stands. I had a sushi roll and this iced coffee with cream cheese in it- phenomenal. I really enjoyed everything I had. I asked the restraunt worker what the ingredients were in the soup and he only told me tofu, i asked him to clarify and he said he already told me it was tofu when there was clearly more than just tofu in the soup and was just overall rude. I've been to the H Marts in the burbs and am glad there is one conveniently located downtown, but this one is very small compared to the others. There is a parking lot, but it is tiny! I've only been here during the weekends, so the parking lot is pretty full and it takes patience to get a spot. It's not so much the smaller size of the store that demotes a star. They have quite a vast selection. The two times I've ventured here, I've had to point out to the cashier or customer service the wrong prices that come up on the computer. The first time, we purchased a couple of items from the sales ad and I had to pull up the advert on my phone and show the cashier in order for her to change the price. The second time we were charged an incorrect price for an item and had to go to customer service to rectify it. Sure it's only a couple of dollars here and there, but it bothers me that this tactic dupes many customers if you are not paying attention. So please be aware of what you are paying for your groceries! read more

Decided to try one of the kiosk for lunch . We ordered a bulgogi and kalbi bento. Each bento came with rice, 2 piece fried mandoo,, salad and chop Chae. Stumbled into the very popular H Mart recently on a snowy Sunday evening after leaving a nearby drinking establishment and I had a 15 minute wait for a ride share so I had some time on my hands. It seems to be part grocery store/ part eating establishment as they had just about everything you need in reference to Korean fare. I just walked around for a couple minutes to see what they had and suddenly smelled the awesome aroma of delicious ramen. It was chilly and snowing out so ramen was definitely in order. I asked the woman behind the ramen counter how long would it take for the food to be ready and she said should be 7 minutes for the Yume Ramen I was interested in. They got it done pretty quick and I was out the door in enough time to walk out and catch my Via ride comfortably in reference to time. Got home and tore the delicious ramen up...very enjoyable. I will definitely come back here for some grocery shopping and another meal sometime soon. read more

This is the newest addition to the hmart family . Chicago has a reasonably large asian population but has been lacking authentic asian food/snacks establishments in downtown area for quite some time. The day we went to the store, it was extremely crowded but the layout was very organized There were sampling stations at every corner. The staff were all very friendly except for the checkout girl who didn't seen to understand much English. There is a big selection of a variety of items that seem to be better quality than other H Mart stores I've been to. There is also a decent sized food court with a bakery. I had to knock off some stars as parking was difficult and it was hard to move around with the crowd. read more

Nice new West loop location for the H Mart chain. This one is intermediate in size to the big ones in Niles and Naperville, and the tiny one in Glenview (it may be similar to the intermediate Schaumburg store size). It's nice (but also a requirement for the shopping clientele) that they have free parking at this downtown location. As one might expect in this area, the lot is not very big but it seemed marginally adequate at this particular Sunday lunch time. The location is very convenient for I-90/94 travelers and is only a few feet from the southbound Jackson Blvd exit and bridge. Convenient! I used to make trips out to Niles just for the Super H Mart they got out there, but now I don't need to. This newer Hmart location in downtown Chicago is pretty clutch. While it is on the smaller side, they seem to carry just about everything you come to expect from any Hmart location and the prices seem to be on point and not marked up as I would expect. While it is convenient overall, if you plan on driving definitely try to make it to this location earlier than later as parking is very limited. Also don't forget to bring your own bags as it does cost money to purchase plastic ones. That's all I got on this one. 'Til next time, cheers! read more

I came here from hearing so much about it from friends and family. The place is part grocery store and part food court with food options of sushi, ramen, bulgogi, and more! I went to So Gong Dong Tofu & KBBQ and ordered the beef bulgogi bento box. And the food did not disappoint! It was on the pricier end to my liking ($15 including tax) but it's expected in the city. It does get busy and there's limited seating with high top areas and a couple of tables, so grab a spot when you can. It also has a parking lot that goes to the back of the store but still limited parking all for 1 hour. The only reason I didn't give it 5/5 stars is because their bathroom really needed some attention. I'll be back to try the other food though! read more

I just left H mart and the cashier was very rude and nasty. My cashier was REG 4, she spoke to the woman before me and bagged her item. When i approached the register as a black woman she dropped her head, and did not speak. She also did not bag my groceries, another worker bagged my items. I had to ask her two times for chopsticks. The couple behind me was white, and she she greeted them and asked them how their day was. In the current climate, racism and unfair treatment should be the last thing I should experience when I go to a supermarket. I am truly disgusted by her actions. We had a quick lunch at the Korean restaurant and bought some treats from the small bakery/cafe but didn't have time to go into the supermarket. Clean, compact, and authentic! My lunch which was spicy beef with vegetable soup with the small portion of tteokbokk was like a dream. This is a review for Sang's Kitchen, the food establishment to the far left of all the others. My Korean friends and I were all so excited for an Hmart to open up in downtown Chicago. Not only can we buy Korean groceries but we can also fill our stomachs with Korean food while we're there. In my most recent visit, my friend and I decided to order the jjambbong (Spicy Seafood Noodle) and jjajangmyeon (Black Bean Noodle) from Sang's Kitchen, two "Korean-style Chinese" dishes that are usually eaten together. If you're craving these flavors, I would say that your cravings will be satisfied but your taste buds won't be blown out of the water. The biggest issue is definitely the texture of the noodles - they come closer to instant noodle consistency than anything else. BUT it's not off putting enough for me to stop eating here. At least until more (authentic) Korean restaurants start opening up in this part of the city... read more

This is nice, many Korean foods and a superb (and expensive) bakery store up front in the food court area. I have been used to the H Mart in Niles which is quite a bit larger, with a broader and more extensive array of produce and foods. We rushed in to get a couple of things for the road on a Saturday and found it interesting. The bakery store offered teas and I requested the tangerine tea which was really aromatic. However, the owner refused to provide a larger cup for the one teabag which cost $3.50 and I was surprised because - oh well, one can imagine why. It is nice to have this in the neighborhood although the big hoop-la about its opening is sort of exaggerated. read more
