Fish selection varied, but again pricey. Frozen food section had interesting options, including frozen birds. Mostly Korean products, but you will also find other Asian products. Pricier than other Asian markets. One hour covered parking located next to the store. Assigned stalls for H-Mart were all taken so parking lot traffic was a challenge. Go during the week and earlier in the day if you're parking in the structure. Meter parking on the street was limited. Takeout food located upstairs. Again expensive and nothing was extraordinary or worth returning for again. If you've never been to an H-Mart then going once is worth a try if you have absolutely nothing else to do with your time. You're better off buying Korean foods and products from other stores instead. Rather busy, and I expected a crowd since H-Mart is new to Hawaii. For those who reside in Kakaako, perhaps the walk is worth it. Social distancing in this rather cramped store is non-existent. Some folks were seen without a mask on their face; simply hanging off their face. No one monitors social distancing or masking while shopping. No sanitizing station noted. Not expecting to return to H-Mart because it's far pricier when you can find the exact same things at other Asian stores or even Chinatown. H Mart is a pretty cool place. Being a Korean supermarket they carry a lot of yummy food! I would have loved to take my time and wander around, but the aisles were way too small/narrow - you can barely get around with their mini shopping carts with the amount of people shopping. They let way too many people in the store especially during COVID19 with social distancing in practice - it's literally impossible in here. They have a nice selection of kitchen gadgets, bowls and utensils besides groceries, and there is a cool foodcourt upstairs which includes Giovanni's shrimp! We didn't eat there, but maybe in the future we will. I did pick up a case of Kimchee bowls and two packs of indomie noodles (my fave!). They had a nice selection of meats for grilling or shabu shabu, but I couldn't purchase anything refrigerated on this trip. We did wait in line to get in, about 10-15 minutes, then they just let everyone in after? And there was no one controlling occupancy. Social distancing is nonexistent here, so come at your own risk. The aisles were extremely narrow and hard to get around. I noticed they don't clean the carts after people use it either. All that aside, they have a nice selection of Korean products. I was in awe by the good cuts of meat they had. Will definitely be back for that once the crowd dies down. They also have a food court upstairs with amazing restaurants! I was so excited to see Giovanni's Shrimp and Black Sheep Cream!! I don't have to drive out all the way to North Shore or Waipio to get my shrimp or ice cream now. Parking is free behind the building for one hour with validation and $1 after that. It was horrendous with the amount of people trying to check out Hmart though. If you go on Sunday, I suggest parking at Fishers, since they're closed Sundays, and walking the short distance over. read more

It took over an unused building across from the Down to Earth at Keauhou Lane. Parking is street, or at one of the garages nearby without validation. The first story is the grocery store which includes food, drinks, and homegoods. There are stairs and an elevator to a food court including Giovanni's, ice cream, noodles, and a forthcoming pour-your-own beer bar. Prices are typical, maybe a little on the high side. I love H-Mart. I love this one. I love the ones in Duluth, Virginia, and NY. They make me feel at home with smelly dishes of fermented garlic, gory scenes of salmon heads, yummy Korean cookies, and hard-to-find produce. This is a modern interpretation of the Korean market of the old. (Btw, free samples have nor returned since covid, but I remain hopeful.) I give the spirit of H Mart 5 stars all day long...until today. The food court at this H Mart was, in short, disgusting. The tables were covered with leftover food, stuck-on overspills, and sticky whatever. Yikes.. I had to pour water and use several napkins to get the obvious nastiness but the tables (yep we tried to clean two) vigilantly stayed yucky with greasy remnants. Took a trip out to Kakaako to visit the new HMart. I was not disappointed! So much to see and experience. Parking was easy and they validate. I went specifically looking for those brown sugar boba pops that are all the rage now. No luck, all gone. I did however find other goodies. The cookie section was amazing! I found these amazing Meloni cookies. A light melon flavored cream sandwiched between 2 light cracker like wafers. This reminded me of Japanese style crackers. Light, creamy and not overly sweet like American crackers. You taste the full flavor of the melon without all the sugary taste. I also picked up some of the best cuts of meat for table top grilling. Lots of unique items, vegetables, Kim Chee, Korean items and Soju! The top level is an open food court with lots of food vendors. It even has a Giovannis! Of course some Korean, Japanese, a black sheep ice cream spot too! There is a boba/coffee place. I wanted to try the toffee dalgona crunch however they were closed. Me and couple of coworkers decided to check the hype on the new H Mart store. The YouTube video made it bigger than what was thought. Parking can be a Tokyo Drift challenge. The Aisle of Ramen is real. The fresh seafood was small inside corner wall. It is not for people who are claustrophobic because the aisles are narrow. But you will find a variety of Asian types of food and a small grocery for American types also. The second floor to the food court is like a dining hall at college cafeteria except spread out. We enjoyed our Social Distancing and food at our table was tasty as they call out numbers from different food counters. It was a good experience and I would recommend coming back. read more

From the reviews I was not expecting much. But, as I entered, I found a wide variety of fresh produce, lots of Korean items - kim chee, pickled items, soju, and even appliances. After I talked my wife out of buying a dedicated ramen cooker (uhhhh one more thing to wash), I had my soju in one hand and was walking to see the upstairs and was kindly warned by the person standing by the stairs that I had to pay first. OK I did and when I went up, I didn't see any way to escape, but maybe they thought I would drink the entire bottle up there. Upstairs I found a pretty nice food court and it even had a bar with serve yourself taps on one side. Back downstairs, the meat selection looked really good. The weird thing were several items without prices. No way to know how much something costs without ringing up. They had a fish area on the bottom but it didn't seem to have much that I could see. We decided to come here because we heard so much about H Mart! So glad we did! On the first floor, H Mart sells mostly Korean items ranging from frozen food, slippers, rice cookers, cooking utensils, household items, and candy. Around the middle, a seafood section has been set up for those who enjoy dining on various fish, shrimp, lobster and other crustaceans. When we came here in a Saturday afternoon, we saw how busy H Mart was. Patrons walked around the aisles looking leisurely at the different items on display. We went up to the second floor to see and take pictures. Patrons can find the food court, and a beer station around this spacious area. Surprisingly, we found out that Giovanni pizza set up a station here! With the COVID-19 issue, people kept their spaces within 6 feet of each other. Located in the heart of Kaka'ako, this makes area for a good meeting place as we met (by chance) our friends here. This store has a lot of korean staples: kimchi, meat, noodles ( fresh, frozen, dried, instant, refrigerated), sauces, rice... I was really excited for them to open this location. I am not sure if some of the shelves were empty because it's been busy since it first opened or due to covid 19, but the chilled area where the kimchi is didn't have as many ready made bahn chan items as I'd have hoped. The aisles are pretty tight as it is a very small store. But overall this was a good experience. Lots of good stuff to pick though. Love this Asian grocery store. They carry a lot of items which cannot be found at any other stores. The store is always kept clean, organized and usually well stocked. An added feature is the food court located on the second floor. They are currently requiring proof of vaccine to dine in. Take out cam still be done without the check. This store is packed!! This was our first time here. We were in the area and decided to stop in to see what it was about and boy were we surprised. Staff were very helpful. We got stuck in the sauce isle just checking the huge selection. Picked up a few items and headed upstairs to the food court. We got there after 1pm on a Friday, so there were lots of tables. There was Korean, Japanese, even a Giovani's (yes, same as the Kahuku lunch wagon!), a bar, ice cream, chicken and couple other places. There's a parking garage next door. RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) We got there around lunch time. If you're planning to eat in the Food Court upstairs, go check that out before you grocery shop. They don't allow wagons upstairs and you'll need to produce your receipt of any items you take upstairs. Even if you're not sure about eating there, just check it out first. 2) Bring a cooler. We weren't expecting to pick up cold things but there were a lot of things I would've bought had I brought one. I really liked the variety of wagyu cuts of meat and marinated meats. 3) I saw mainly Korean and Filipino Asian type foods. Checked out H Mart and was disappointed with the store. It was small and the layout strange. If you like instant soups they seemed to have a wide selection. Produce looked fresh but again nothing that caught my attention. They had some nice cuts of meat thinly sliced. I was hoping they might have some "sets" of prepackaged meat veggies and sauce for Korean dishes like Marukai. I don't know enough about Korean cooking to know what to buy so prepared sets would be good. I agree wIth previous posts of the store not being set up for safe shopping. With such narrow aisles they should make them one way. Parking looked very tight so was glad I found parking on the street. I just came here on Monday afternoon to check it out with my husband and twins. We parked in the parking garage in the back, but the stalls labeled H Mart were a little tight. In the store, the aisles are very narrow so it only fits one person down the aisle with a shopping cart or the basket with wheels that the store provides. It did fit our stroller however it was hard to maneuver when we had to turn around because there were too many people in a section. There are a variety of Korean foods and we enjoyed picking up a few snack items and drinks. We also bought steak for dinner and it was so tender and juicy! It was worth the price. We didn't get a chance to go upstairs to look at the food court area. There is an elevator but it was packed with people at the time so we had to pass. We were about to pay and it was a long line so the lady open another registrar to accommodate the long line. I thought it was nice for the lady to do that but things changed when I asked for a bag for the items we bought, to my surprise the lady said the price of the bag with an angry face and turned her back on us. Food area upstairs is great, tables are spaced out and cleaned regularly. My favorites are Sadie's and Giovanni's for food, Black Sheep Cream for ice cream and Aloha Aina for drinks. This is a fun grocery store with lots of variety of foods, pots & pats and other interesting things. Large selection of ice cream, my favorite is the melona mochi ice cream and of course the boba ice cream bars. We've purchased the marinated meats which are so yummy but we've also bought random items like woks and electric fly swatters. Four stars because it's a pretty small store and they don't seem to be limiting the amount of people going into the store. They just started having someone doing temperature checks at the door which is good. Also parking isn't the greatest, very limited and stalls are pretty small. This review is for the restaurant upstairs, "k-town authentic korean" After I had ordered and paid, one of the cooks came out front and I saw that he was not wearing a mask at all, not even the pretend type mask that is under his chin. He also looked generally unkempt, not a good sign. I looked into the kitchen and saw the other cook had a mask on, but it was under his chin. Seeing as we are trying to get out of a pandemic, this is upsetting and makes me suspect of other hygiene practices at this business. At this point I was wondering if I should cancel my order but I was too stunned to think it through. The food was also not good!! The tofu soup was watery and weirdly sweet and lacking any real heat. For $15 including tip! Are you kidding me! I hope I don't get covid from this business. My wife and I were in the Kakaako area and decided to shop in the new HMart. It was our second time here and I never bothered to ask where the parking was, we parked in metered street parking. I wish we had an HMart in Aiea because I really like shopping here, it is very clean and the specialties such as the meats and seafood are awesome. If you want to make good yakiniku or shabu shabu this is a great place to shop because of the selection of fine meats and freshness of their produce. I make hotpot at home and will definitely shop here in the future. They also have a wide selection of fresh and frozen seafoods which I did purchase. I love h-mart. I love that they validate parking in the salt lot. I love that there is a food court upstairs. I love that they have so many varieties of soju. I love that I can always find the produce I like here without having to trek through Chinatown markets. I've recently got into having hotpot at home. We bought a pot and use the pork pane stove outside and it's great on cold nights! I found the little fat sheep brand of soup base sold at hmart and I just pick up a bunch of veggies, mushrooms, seafood, noodles and sliced meats and it's a party! They have good sales here and I'm all about the sales. You can get frozen dumplings, any kind of ramen, seaweed, even kimbap! I also usually pick up banana milk and Korean chips or snacks! Parking is validated only in two lots - SALT and the one right next to them. We parked at the Keauhou lot across the street where down to earth is. Went to the food hall upstairs. The wife wanted to try Giovannis as we couldn't make it to the food trucks this visit. The last time we had Giovanni, it was at the food truck, and it wasn't good at all. This place was just okay. We had better. As for the market, it reaked of dead rotting fish. It was stinky! We bought some pre marinated meats to grill and some pre sliced packaged fish to be consumed as sashimi. The meats were barely okay, but the fish was terrible. No more buying stuff from this place. The service was not the best. We had issues with our parking validation, and the staff didn't assist. The pay machine had a button to call for assistance , but the person over the speaker was no help and gave us wrong information. The person over the speaker noted that with the validation we can pay at the gate where we drive out. When we got to the gate the price was not adjusted as the person noted. When H Mart first opened, I thought everything in there was overpriced but in the last few months, I learned that they have weekly sales and discounts. Some items are reasonably prices and sometimes cheaper than the other supermarkets. They also have a membership you can sign up for that gives you the discounted prices. The membership card is free; just fill out the form by the exit and hand it to the cashier before you pay. I mainly come for Hong Kong products, Taiwanese products, and China products. They have different varieties of hot pot broths, Chinese herbal jellies, and Lan Fong Yuan milk tea. If you plan to do shabu shabu or hot pot, this is your one stop shop because the last aisle is full of ingredients you need. If you're looking for salted egg yolk chips, go into the snack aisle and you'll find the Irvin's brand; same as what is sold at The Alley in Ala Moana Center. Those salted egg yolk chips are good but they're about $10-$25 a bag depending on the size. If you haven't tried the Xiao Mei boba ice cream bars, they have them here too. They also carry the A Chino boba ice cream bars. The aisles are tight so I recommend shopping with the rolling basket instead of a cart to get around people quicker. I would like to preface this review by letting you know that I am basically a shut-in these days, so when I leave my house it feels like I'm a five year old going to Disneyland. I am so easily impressed by life not in my backyard, that I might need to schedule time with a mental health professional soon. My hubby & I decided to make a morning impromptu stop at H-Mart, a first time visit for both of us on a Saturday. We found metered street parking right across the street, with the only downside being we had no quarters and there was dog poop all over the grass. (Side note: If you don't pick up your dog's poop, I blame your mother for not raising you better. It's the most inconsiderate thing ever!) We decided to take our chances with the meter and walked up to a security guard at the entrance who took our temperature and sprayed our hands with sanitizer. As other Yelpers have written the aisles are tight so if it's busy, you'll have a difficult time social distancing. But we were here early so it wasn't very busy. I am so impressed with the sheer size of H-Mart! It's two stories with the first floor filled with every possible Korean grocery item you could think of! I found the frozen dumpling section which had at least 30+ kinds of dumplings and now my mission is to try every single brand until I find the best one. My husband is so excited about their sliced meat section because we love making hot pot at home. The second floor is pure food court with lots of local vendors selling everything from ice cream to shrimp plates. Nothing was really open at the food court since we were there so early but I'll definitely be back to have some Black Sheep Creamery ice cream and to try some chicken wings from another booth! Since we were only there for a hot minute, our only purchases were a bag of Kimchee pork frozen dumplings (which were delicious!) and a tray of to-go Kimbap that I found on a table near the register (which was even more delicious!). Think skinny I found this place looking for E.A.R.L. kakaako. (I know you read that review). I also wanted to see if Ash was working? Ooh wait that's S-Mart my bad. (Who gets the reference?) Actually I needed to purchase something to validate my parking ticket. Shh don't be ratting me out. As an Asian marketplace they have it all. Products from Japan to Korea, from Taiwan to China are sold. Items from noodles to children snacks to woks to soap to boba ice cream are here, from Philippine coffee to Chinese BBQ Sauce (I have a great char sui recipe for using this) all the varieties. In the middle of the store, there's an elevator to their food court. I didn't visit the place so I can't comment. And in the back meat and seafood section. It's a nice and compact store. How compact are the supermarket aisle? I believe FCML is wider. And if you're not familiar with that term imagine walking through a family store in any China Town. There is only a couple of registers so you may have to wait if it gets busy. Overall four stars. They have plenty of products to cover all the ingredients you need for any Asian dish. And its pretty surprising how many products they sell with how small they are. Also there is plenty of garage parking and some street parking.
