    Falafel Plate
    Marissa G.

Wow! I was craving matzo ball soup and this place came up and then everything else sounded SO good so I also ordered falafel and pita and wow... the matzo ball soup was delicious but it was also the best falafel I've ever had and the pita was insanely fluff... and the green spicy sauce it came with was the best. I will definitely be ordering again!

    Falafel

Best falafel sandwich I've ever had! You can taste how fresh it is, perfectly crispy on the outside and moist, flavorful, and absolutely delicious on the inside. The owner was incredibly sweet and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back!

Bad food, extremely average quality food. Overpriced and rude waiters and staff. Small overcrowded space.

I finally had the chance to stop in for a solo early dinner, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment. A quick note for future visitors: they are currently having issues with their card reader and are requesting cash or Zelle. It felt a little unusual to be rung up on a register only to pay via Zelle, but it wasn't a major deal. While I appreciated the atmosphere and value, the food itself just wasn't for me, so I likely won't be returning.

Thankfully, we had a reservation, so our wait wasn't long. Once inside, the restaurant was buzzing and packed with people, but even with the crowd, the service flowed smoothly. The waitstaff was on point throughout the evening. The beauty of dining with a group of four is that you can order a bunch of different dishes and share the experience. And that's exactly what we did! For cocktails, we went with the Nebuchadnezzar, Semira, and the Khoda. Then came the food: * Hummus Duck 'Nduja * Chicken Liver Pâté * Fried Quail * Farm Cheese with Buckwheat Toast * Oyster Mushroom Kebab * Slow-Roasted Lamb Neck Shawarma * Wagyu Beef Cheek Tagine For dessert, we finished things off with the Fresh Peach Tart. Everything came out timely, fresh, and cooked to perfection. There were a lot of great dishes on the table, but the standout star of the night was the Slow-Roasted Lamb Neck Shawarma. Tender, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! Overall, Bavel was a great first experience. Good food, great energy, solid service, and the perfect spot for sharing a meal with friends.

Because of Bavel's outstanding reputation, we were excited to celebrate such a special occasion here. The food was excellent, and our server was attentive and professional. Unfortunately, the dining environment significantly detracted from what should have been a memorable evening. Our party of seven was seated at the chef's table directly adjacent to the open-flame kitchen on a day when temperatures were around 90 degrees. The heat at our table was overwhelming, especially for those seated with their backs to the kitchen. Several members of our party, including elderly family members, were extremely uncomfortable throughout much of the meal. Adding to that, the constant shouting of orders from the kitchen made it difficult for our family to have conversations during our daughter's engagement celebration. We understand that many guests enjoy sitting near an open kitchen, but on this particular evening the combination of the kitchen heat and what appeared to be inadequate air conditioning made the experience far less enjoyable than we expected. Even our son and his family, who have dined at Bavel many times, commented that this was not consistent with their previous experiences. Bavel's food deserves its reputation, but comfort is also an important part of a fine dining experience. Unfortunately, the excessive heat and noise overshadowed what should have been a joyful family celebration. I hope the restaurant addresses these issues so future guests can enjoy the exceptional meal in a more comfortable environment.

Based on the food alone, we would recommend this place to anyone with a beating heart and more importantly, a mouth. This is quality food at a quality price. The atmosphere? Really great. It's a little dark and twinkly inside which sets a nice tone. There is cool artwork adorning every piece of wall, the place is very easy on the eyes...including the restrooms. Very clean. Our sever, didn't catch his name, but what a nice dude. Was super helpful without being "too much" he should teach a server class. He's pretty much who you want taking care of your table. Our waiter told us that they can accommodate larger groups which is great. I recently ate food at Saffy's and I didn't enjoy it one bit. The servings there are too small, too pretentious and too overpriced. Open Sesame is the exact opposite and that's why it rules. A wonderful experience in Beverly Boulevard.
