    Falafel

Best falafel sandwich I've ever had! You can taste how fresh it is, perfectly crispy on the outside and moist, flavorful, and absolutely delicious on the inside. The owner was incredibly sweet and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back!

Really disappointed in this place. Ordered falafel sandwich and fries. Falafel was burnt and nasty. Lettuce was soggy and pickles werent fresh. Fries were greasy and undercooked. Disgusting!

Bad food, extremely average quality food. Overpriced and rude waiters and staff. Small overcrowded space.

Hungry Pocket makes the best falafel I've ever eaten…read more I started going here in 2009 while attending SMC. It was the first falafel I'd ever tried. Since that time, I have eaten falafel not only in different LA locations but also at locations across the country while living in NYC. Verdict: from coast to coast, Hungry Pocket makes the best falafel I can find. All other falafels seem to taste like dirt in my mouth in comparison. If you don't like falafel, you just haven't tried Hungry Pocket yet. I will edit this review if I find better falafel or if Hungry Pocket has changed/changes their recipe (will be visiting tomorrow for quality assessment purposes). The ambiance is that of a hole in the wall that you only know about if you went to SMC or know someone who went to SMC. You don't want anything to change because the whole point is that it feels like a hole in the wall that no one knows about. The service is direct. You order, they make your food right in front of you, you get it when it's ready, you eat it, and you are grateful. The baklava is also the best baklava. You should get a piece for dessert. Thank you, Jeff!!!

Being so close to a zillion restaurants at my feet, my friend's "significant" said let's do some Mediterranean food tonight. I put my thumbs-up and it was unanimous: Sunnin Lebanese Cafe on Westwood Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. it was. Well, I never heard of this place, but I said "let's Go"! When we pulled up to this strip mall entrance that was overflowing with human beings wanting a table at very happy this very we had a RESY. We ordered: * Hummus of course - which was delicious * Babaganouj - which was creamy and extremely dippicle [sic] * Beef Kafta Kebab - just lovely * Taboulah Salad - that was excellent * Fool or Ful depending on what Mideast country - was deepened with fava beans * Alamaza Lebanese beer that paired perfectly with our dinner. The staff here were friendly, helpful and accommodating. I've been gone from Los Angeles close to five years now, and every time I come back, I get a nice surprise like I did at Sunnin.

Tear off some pita, scoop up some of the dips, and embrace the delicious small bites. Stuffed Squash and Eggplant: You can get either squash or eggplant, or both. I prefer the squash. The zucchini is firm, just soft enough, but still with the perfect amount of structure. It has been hollowed out and stuffed with ingredients similar to a dolma (stuffed grape leaf). The filling of rice and ground beef is soft. The eggplant is much softer. They are cooked in a tomato sauce and served with a cool creamy yogurt. Babaganouj: This mezze is a roasted eggplant dip. The eggplant is mashed with tahini and lemon juice for a smoky and slightly bitter flavor. It's smooth, creamy, and a bit chunky. Parking: There's a little lot to the side. There's also metered street parking on Westwood Blvd.

Recently, we were curious if our old go-to, Javan, was still any good. So, my wife and I dined there. The beef and chicken koobideh entrees were both excellent- so tender and juicy. This weekend, we have some friends visiting from San Francisco. As SF is a fantastic food town in its own right, we suggested two different food options that are better in L.A. than what you'll find up there: Korean BBQ or Persian food. The wife pushed a return to Javan. Alex, the manager, recommended the All Javan Combo for our party of 5. It includes tzatziki, hummus, salad, and flatbread to start followed by beef and chicken koobideh, chicken kabob, filet, lamb, and choice of rice. We added an eggplant stew with lamb shank and an extra skewer of chicken koobideh. Finished the meal off with hot tea, a sublimely-delicious saffron ice cream (house-made by Alex himself), baklava, and little bites that were like honey churro nubs. After we finished this feast of a meal, my daughter looked up at me and said, "This was one of the best Persian meals I've ever had." I must agree. This was a meal greater than the sum of its parts- food was very, very good and the experience was elevated by the warmth of Alex and his staff. It's rare that a restaurant works this hard to make its guests feel welcome. Free street parking and a full-bar (Alex is happy to whip-up a special cocktail for you). I give Javan my highest recommendation. Please eat here if you're in the mood for Persian food. Bon Appétit!

The food was excellent from start to finish. Highlights included the whipped chickpea hummus, lamb kofta, Michael's Favorite Salmon, zucchini fritters, saffron rice, and an outstanding dessert course. The cocktails were creative, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully crafted. Every dish felt intentional and well executed while remaining approachable and enjoyable. What truly set Orla apart, however, was the service. Pia stopped by our table to personally ensure everything was going well and even made sure we hadn't left any belongings behind when we departed. That level of attentiveness is increasingly rare and very much appreciated. Ryan provided exceptional service throughout our dinner. We were dining with young children, and he consistently looked for ways to improve our experience. One moment that particularly stood out was when our son preferred traditional dinner rolls over the pita bread being served. Rather than simply apologizing or suggesting another menu item, Ryan and the team went out of their way to locate dinner rolls elsewhere in the property so he could have something he enjoyed. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a perfect example of hospitality done right. Another memorable touch came when the evening ocean breeze picked up during dinner on the patio. Before we even had the opportunity to ask, the hostess noticed and brought blankets for our family so we could remain comfortable and continue enjoying our meal outdoors. It was another example of the team's attentiveness and ability to anticipate guests' needs. The team was also incredibly gracious in handling special requests and making our children feel welcome throughout the meal. As parents, we appreciated that just as much as the excellent food. Many restaurants offer great cuisine. Far fewer combine great cuisine with genuine hospitality. Orla succeeds at both. The restaurant delivers a refined dining experience without ever feeling pretentious or unwelcoming, and the staff consistently demonstrated a level of care that elevated the entire evening. We left impressed not only by the quality of the food, but by the people behind it. Thank you to Pia, Ryan, the hostess team, and the entire Orla staff for making our Father's Day weekend so memorable. We look forward to returning on our next visit to Santa Monica.
