    Pita with appetizers

Great place to have Sunday dinner in LA. Went to Haifa for our last meal in Los Angeles. Busy, but not so busy on a Sunday night, so we grabbed a table for two by the window. Parked across the street. Geovanni brought us fresh pita and small bowls filled with delicious meze to enjoy while we waited for the main entrees. Israeli pickles. Spicy Moroccan carrots. Cabbage salad. Their pita is amazing! I got the Moussaka. Fried eggplant with ground beef. So good. My husband ordered the chicken shawarma which was so juicy and delicious. Each entree came with two sides. The Israeli salad is such a classic staple. So fresh and tasty. The mushroom veggies with mushrooms, peppers and soy sauce was addicting. The majadra with rice, lentils and onions was perfect to pair with the chicken shawarma. When we mentioned my mother-in-law's falafel and hummus to Geo, he brought us a sample of their falafel and hummus to sample. Although I've yet to find a falafel that beats hers, the falafel at Haifa Restaurant was pretty close. A hit paired with the hummus. Would definitely come back when in LA. Great food and such friendly service. Maybe they'll open one day in Houston? A huge thank you to Geo. Toda raba. Ze taim meod.

The third item was called a salad but it looked more like a sauce it was good but very spicy

I have had my fair share of hummus and tahini and falafel and baba ghanoush I definitely can say this one is tasty. I didn't understand why it was so crowded when we got in, but when I saw people who have eaten there before, they are regulars, they tell me the food is consistently good. They did not steer me wrong. The food is quite tasty. The portions are not very big however but we did order appetizers to make the food more filling. The only thing I would hope the RESTAURANT would do is be more clear on the details as to what is in the food. If you look at the menu, it doesn't really list what you're getting in detail which most restaurants are supposed to do that so it's not really clear what's what. We had to ask the server what's in each dish. Good food. Good service. They did not fill up my cup but they were too busy making food which is understandable.

I was in Egypt recently and has been looking for a place to make authentic baba ghanoush, tahini, and hummus the same way I had it in Egypt. I have found it at Haifa. The hummus was just devious, creamy, just melts away after one bite. The baba ghanoush was savory with a hint of lemon, similar to the ones we ate numerous times in Egypt. Also ordered the Israeli salad, it was so simple and healthy, chopped of small pieces cucumbers and tomatoes was perfect. Our server handed a sample taste of the Turkish salad and boy was it good, it also had a flaming taste to it, so beware. The falafel was crunchy on the outside and soft inside, so delightful, it almost transported me back to my time in Egypt. Thank you for making these authentic dishes. Can't wait to share these delightful food with my friends and family the staff was so nice and attentive. After a few hours of volunteering this is exactly the place we needed to be at

Hummus and falafel thanks to checking in here on Yelp!

The hidden gem of all hidden gems!!!! My friend and I just finished a 90 min dance class and we were HANGRY! Thanks to the great reviews on here we decided to give Haifa a try. Boy are we glad we did! This place is small and quaint but has a great menu selection. We were trying not to order the entire menu everything looked so good so we decided on matzo ball soup and then I got the chicken shawarma sandwich. Then I checked in on Yelp and discovered the great reward of a hummus and falafel plate! While we waited they brought us a whole bunch of sides (pictured) which we quickly nibbled on. Everything was great and flavorful. The hummus and falafel plate which was one of the BEST hummus and falafel combos I've ever tasted. Plus the pita was so fluffy and warm. Besides my mom's homemade recipe, their matzo ball soup is now my (second) fav! Carrots, zucchini, potato and onion in there plus the tastiest matzo balls. Omg. Truth be told, once our entrees arrived we were FULL!...but still managed to eat the fries that came with the sandwiches (which was a surprise that they were part of the order) so we boxed up our sandwiches which makes me so excited to eat it tomorrow. Our server was so incredibly attentive and nice. The prices were extremely reasonable plus we get two meals out of it! I will def be going back again...plus ordering delivery...plus dreaming about that hummus and falafel plate! Yummmmmm.....

Popped into my local Israeli restaurant on pico Boulevard near Robertson called Haifa. In the early 80s when I bought my first house in Beverlywood, my family used to hang out with the two brothers who ran this restaurant, Yosi and Benny. I've moved back into the hood, but Benny and Yosi are no longer operating the restaurant. However, the menu has really never changed, and I ordered the combination salad which consists of in my custom order: hummus, Tahina, baba ghanoush, Turkish salad, and the traditional tomato and cucumber salad. I am gluten intolerant, so I cannot have the pita bread and have to get gluten-free pita bread in order to enjoy this wonderful mix. I also on this occasion had the combination salad with falafel. Wasn't sure I was gonna like the falafel but they gave me eight pieces and the falafel was delicious. Throwing all the ingredients into a pita bread pocket creates an explosion of creamy, crunchy flavors blending in harmony. If only the world could get along in the same manner.

Hummus and Falafel plate. Delicious !

They had utensils, napkins, and sauces with containers while you wait. I ordered the falafel bowl and pali salad in case the bowl itself wasn't enough. It did take longer than the other orders but once I got it, we sat outside where they had a few tables and chairs. The bowl looked fresh and vibrant, so many colors and a decent amount of falafel. I tried their white and mazbout sauces on the salad. I'm glad it had spinach as it helped reduce water from seeping out. The falafel was slightly spicy since I am terrible with spic r tolerance but the sauce made it very balanced. I also got to try someone's fries and it was super delicious, the spices they used on the fries were flavorful and the fried were very crispy and smooth inside. Overall, very nice quick lunch, we arrived before they opened right at 12pm and avoided the lunch rush! Very affordable prices as well.

It was good, not great. I also had the veggie shawarma. I won't get that again. It was mushy, and when I go for that dish, I'm not trying to be healthy. I guess if I were vegan for principled reasons, I might appreciate that more....... It was one and done for me. Shout out to the workers there. It was Ce and Michelle. I walked around a few blocks in every direction and found the usual urban suspects--cafes, $$$$ dining, sketchy corner stores, lackluster hole-in-the-walls, chain food, and a whole lot of gritty LA galore. Nothing really stood out for going solo besides Dune. Service was straightforward. Menu was comprehensive and what you'd want and expect from a Mediterranean establishment. The interior was small but cozy and well decorated--somewhere between boho chic and French bistro. Food was outstanding. I ordered the hummus and steak plate with an herbal iced tea and both brought me back to life. I know Mediterranean dishes usually incorporate fresh herbs but this particular plating was superb. I saw generous pinches of dill and mint marrying everything together. The assortment of hummus, steak, spring greens, dollops of yogurty goodness, basmati, pickled onions and beets plus the flatbread and a lemon wedge was harmoniously flavorful. I'm good to rock out and abuse myself for another night!

By far (!) the BEST falafel sandwich I have ever tried in ANY restaurant…read more I can not believe I found this place less than a month ago. I do not live in the area, but I am visiting here once in 2 weeks. Last time I was there, I had a huge cravings for Falafel. I know a few restaurants in the Pico/Robertson area, which has falafel, but I was hoping to find a new one, and I did! The GPS found this place, and I decided to try it. It was DELICIOUS! By far, the best Falafel I have ever had, and I am eating Falafel all my life. The salads are fresh and the place is clean. It served with 2 potato chips, which I didn't care about. I would rather had 5 falafel balls in my pita bread, instead of 4. (most of the places that sell falafel, put 5 or 6 falafel balls in your pita bread) The place is very small, you can easily miss it. Do yourself a favor, and stop by if you are in the area, and hungry for an amazing falafel! I know I will, every time I will be there.

Well, to start off, I must admit I drove by this place about 10 times before I finally went in. All…read morethose times, I never saw people inside. Which I understand why. I finally went in today and sadly, was not only disappointed, my fantasy of Falafel King was destroyed forever. I know Benito used to work for Falafel King, but this place is nothing like it. The service was horrible. The guy behind the little counter was not nice at all. In fact he was rude. And didn't like if you asked him questions. But that aside, sitting in this little tiny restaurant was not a good feeling. We were the only ones there. They have a seating area outside, I'm guessing for overflow - yet, the table and chairs were right there in the middle of the restaurant. Piled up. They didn't even bother to take it outside. Put all that aside - we get to the food. One of the best things Falafel King has were the "chips", which were battered slices of potatoes that were deep fried. These were slices of potato, they were potato chips. Thin. No "meat" on them, if you know what I mean. And sadly, they were fried either early this morning or last night. Terrible, cold, hard, no taste - not even salt. We move on the falafel - which tasted good. The taste of the falafel itself was good, but the oil dripping down my hand an face was not. I blame that on the oil not being hot enough when he put the falafel into the oil. Next, the actual shwarma is not really shwarma (like you all know it). There was no revolving slab of meat where the fat melts into the meat and makes it so so special. No. This was a little baggy of already cooked meat with no spices on it thrown on the plancha and heated up. Hard and tasteless. Very disappointing. I picked it out of my pita and ate the salad with tehina and spicy eggplant (which WAS tasty). The pita is also a thin hard pita - not the nice fluffy type. I didn't finish my food, and my friend didn't finish the food, as you can see in the pictures. Sorry to give it a 1 - but to say you have ANY connection to "Falafel King" is a disgrace. Sorry if I sound brutal. I tell it like it is.

Also a side of the Za'atar/sumac fries. Fries came out first PIPING hot, crispy, seasoned perfectly nom nom. The entrees quickly followed. The lamb was so tender and juicy and bursting with flavor. And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb! Portions HUGE (we have a full meal waiting in the fridge) and prices very reasonable. Patio is a very fun hang with pretty lights. My only knock is on the chairs which are not exactly "comfy."
