As we walked up to the Haberdasher, I was intrigued by the entrance and the staircase which descended into what felt like a different time period. Servers are sharply dressed wearing vests. The decor and ambiance gave a classic look to the establishment. While I will say I was a little disappointed in the lack of table service, even with my reservation, it did not ruin the evening for me. I enjoyed getting up from my table to engage with other patrons around the bar. And the drinks were quickly made! But let me end this review with the best part of all: the drinks. It would be a bad look to advertise as a cocktail bar and made ok cocktails. The place did far better than "ok". I loved the old-fashioned! Delicious! And I even went off-book and tried a new (to me) drink called an "old Cuban"! I loved it. I will definitely go back to this place! Haberdasher is definitely one of my favorite speakeasy in the San Jose area. The cocktails that they make here are expertly crafted and all of them taste fantastic. The decor is quite dim but is generally very cozy and a lovely place to bring your friends out. During the covid, this place was one of the first places to implement vaccination checks which just shows how responsible the management and people working there are. First indoor bar experience since before shelter in place orders. The team at Haberdasher have worked so hard pivoting with all the changes the county has ordered. First, they offered to-go cocktail orders with a purchase of a food item (partnering with a local business). Next, when an outdoor option was available, they created a comfortable and creative space outside their doors. Now, we are getting even closer to "normal" with indoor service. Currently, access to the downstairs accommodations require a reservation, a valid ID and proof of vaccination. The outdoor patio is still available on a first-come-first-served basis, but will require you to place orders at the bar as table service is no longer available. Was able to book a reservation on a Thursday. Though the experience was surreal being in a bar unmasked, I felt comfortable and at ease thanks to the precautions put in place by the team. read more

There is both a large garage nearby and also a small lot across the street and another around the block. If you can, schedule reservations ahead of time and get a table and drinks brought to your table. You can also sit belly up or among tables in the non-reserved section (it's pretty large). The mixologists/bartenders are very talented. You don't even have to look at a menu! Tell them what you're looking for or let them ask a series of questions and then propose a beverage to you! I love Haberdasher, and go often. The people are wonderful and the ambiance is lovely. The speakeasy concept is low-key. On the noisy side, so be aware of that. But early in the night it's very comfortable. The bartenders are the best. I was NOT a cocktail drinker when I was introduced to Haberdasher. The bartenders get a little bit of information from you, and can recommend from a LONG list of ideas. But they narrow it to a couple of options so it's not overwhelming. Then they use highest-quality spirits and mixers to make the best version of the cocktail. I've now got quite a list of favorites, from Black Manhattan to 1794 to Black Lodge to Devil's Soul. Super lowkey bar - reminds me of a 1920's speakeasy! There is a big staircase down and that's where all the fun happens. Lots of seating space, which is always nice when you're too tired to stand. The bartender who made our drinks was super friendly and chatty. My friends ordered a Matcha Flip and Irish Whiskey; I was feeling less adventurous and wanted something without egg whites, so I ended up ordering a Moscow Mule. Their drinks were super tasty and well-made, the matcha drink tasted like an alcoholic matcha latte and the irish whiskey tasted like a nice coffee with a big warm hug. Speak Easy style bar. No signage out front, you can't really tell it's there unless you really pay attention. It's got kind of a sexy vibe. My forever goto place in San Jose downtown. I have been to many or almost all bars in the downtown. The staff is super friendly and always offer to make something not on the menu if you ask. Super friendly staff, when we got there they only had tables of 2 (we were a party of 4), so they pulled out tables and extra chairs just for us and another group that was waiting! Our waitress took the time to describe and recommend our cocktails because we were so indecisive (everything on the menu looked so good), and came out often to fill our waters. The drinks were great - I got a house blend pepper concoction with mezcal, at first I thought it was a bit spicy but I grew to really enjoy it as I drank more. I love Haberdasher, so much so that I don't know if I should write this review because I want it to stay as-is! I enjoy the occasional social drinks, but I'm not a huge alcohol fan (don't question that part) and also hate how bars are usually packed, dirty, and overpriced. But Haberdasher hits all the right places. Drinks: I always only get one thing and it's the Pimm's Cup on draft. They have several on draft that run a little cheaper, but their handmade cocktails also only run about $14, which I think isn't a bad price. I've tried some of their other drinks too, but their Pimm's Cup is delicious. It doesn't taste strongly of alcohol (remember, good drinks should never taste like you're sipping on rubbing alcohol), and it's so refreshing. If you don't know what you want, bartenders are very knowledgeable and will find something that suits you. Staff: Other reviews mention it too, but their staff is great. Always friendly. They apparently work their way up to a bartender, so they juggle roles, like you'll see someone who was bartending one day working the front checking IDs the next. Great system and it's working because it's definitely one of the friendliest bars I've been to. Ambiance/Environment: For one, it's clean. Bathrooms don't have suspicious liquid on the floors, tables are clean, floors aren't dusty. The big thing for me is that it's not loud. There's music, but it's usually a jazz type music, no EDM style stuff (wow, I sound old). You can actually talk to someone without yelling. And there's always seats. It's not a big place but I've always been able to find a place to sit, even on a Saturday. And they have these really cozy couch/table nooks! Speakeasy style, cool lamps, nice decor. read more

Visited this cute little hidden gem on a Friday night, reservations are highly recommended. Tucked underground, you could easily miss this place as you walk by. Once security checked our Id's, we traveled down the stairs to a hostess who sat us in a little corner. As I looked around, I noticed the theme of what could have been a men's clothing dealer at some point in time. Definitely a cozy environment with some good music in the background. Can get a loud. Our server was Sid, and was amazing! The menu is fairly small, but I just told Sid what I liked and didn't like in a drink, and brought out a delicious drink each time. I have been overdue for a cocktail since SIP. This was my first experience getting cocktails to go, and I may well be addicted to the idea now. You order ahead on their website, and can pick up curbside from 4-8PM. They just ask for your name, you pop your trunk open, and voila! you have beers/cocktails to go! The menu for to-go is a bit limited compared to their regular cocktail menu, but I was still pleased with what was offered I had the Watermelon Jive which was light and refreshing and perfect for summer. I enjoy trying bourbon cocktails since the flavors can be so complex, but don't always enjoy the ones I get, since I don't like them to be too strong- the Kentucky Buck was PERFECT. You can taste the bourbon flavor, but it is so artfully mixed with fruit flavors that it tasted so smooth. There wasn't any ice provided, so you may want to bring some if you're not going to drink it right away. They require an order of their pie to meet regulations for pick-up. Not a bad requirement at all since the pies are AMAZING. They're little single serving pies from Sweet Dragon, and omg it was one of the best chicken pot pies I've ever had. The chicken was so tender and lightly shredded. They are cold on pick-up, so you'd have to go home to bake it. I will definitely be back to their website to see if the cocktails offered each week are different. It's a fun little place and the drink I had was good but it's on the expensive side. I paid six bucks for a handful ( barely) of nuts. I think if you have got it like that then it's a fun choice to hang out with your friends. Reservations get you a nice seat but there are also stools and countertops to sit and hang by. I parked in the parking lot a block down. It was outdoors and didn't have any issues but street parking on a Saturday night at around 9 was pretty much impossible. I'm so impressed with how quickly Haberdasher has pivoted to curbside cocktails. I've been at a loss for what to do for "date night" these days so was very much looking forward to making a trip out of picking up some tasty alcoholic concoctions and snacks to go. Beware that their items sell out regularly. I was monitoring the website for a few days before we visited on Friday and when we looked earlier that evening the cocktails we had been eyeing were sold out. Doh! But, there are tons of good options so don't despair if it happens to you. All it means is that we'll have to visit again ;) When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised at the efficient, bustling operation: There were 5-10 staff, donning uniforms and face masks, working at the bar. We simply told one of the guys the name, he spent a couple minutes retrieving the order, and then placed it with care in our trunk. We ordered the Carbonated Corpse Reviver #2, Frozen Irish Coffee, chicken pot pie, triple berry pie, and the honey jack bacon sugar cookies--yes, honey jack bacon sugar cookies; can anything sound more delectable? The coffee cocktail was cute in that it came in a coffee cup. When we arrived home and sipped our drinks we immediately lit up. YUM! The Corpse Reviver was the perfect tangy bubbly flavor to lift one's spirits. The Frozen Irish Coffee tasted like a milkshake! The cookies are a unique treat too. I can't taste the Jack Daniels, but there are sizable bacon bits and they are a very cool thin chewy texture. We've been munching on them for days now.
