The Santa Barbara Char has to be the best sandwich in the entire area! Flavorful, with fresh fixings and piping hot fries made it an absolutely delicious gastronomic feast. I had to personally thank the cook, who turned out to be the very pleasant man who took my order. Service was very prompt and the other staff friendly. Otherwise, the restaurant was very clean and comfortable. The fried fish is a bit overdone and the batter is a little thick, it comes with coleslaw on the bottom and pickled onions on top. Lately, whenever I'm craving a fast food burger, my go-to spot has been this particular Habit location. Parking is easy to find, the manager at this location is super friendly, tables are clean, orders have always been accurate, food is prepared quickly, and the burgers and sides have always tasted really good. On my most recent visit today, I ordered a Charburger, while my wife got a Charburger with cheese and a side of cheesy cauliflower tots with an avocado ranch dipping sauce. The buns to the burgers were toasted nicely, the patty had a nice char flavor to it, shredded lettuce and tomatoes were crisp and fresh, and the extra pickles I requested had just the right amount of tanginess to them. The real star of the show today however, was the cauliflower tots. The outside is super crispy -- as you would expect from a freshly fried tater tot, but the inside is a fluffy, gooey mixture of cheese and cauliflower bits. Since it's listed as a seasonal feature on their menu, I would definitely recommend trying it out before it's gone. I received a promo to try a free double burger and a free chicken burger. The only requirement was to buy a side order worth at least three dollars for each sandwich. My first time I tried the double burger with a vanilla shake . They were both delicious and tasted very much like the burgers and shakes I remember fondly, eating as a child and teenager. The second time I tried the chicken sandwich with onion rings. The chicken was a roasted, but still juicy cut of white meat, presumptively breast. With everything on it, it was quite delicious. The onion rings were made to perfection and came with a side sauce, which I didn't use. Well, the promo worked and I'll be back to have it in Albany on a regular or irregular basis . It's in my neighborhood. The service is great and enthusiastic, and on both visits. The only glitch was that my hamburger and milkshake was supposed to be packaged to go. The burger was placed in brown paper bag, which was easy to hold. However, the milkshake was given to me in a cup with a weak bubble cover, which I gather was if you wanted it with whipped cream, which I didn't. The problem is that it was pretty easy to see that it would be difficult to hold both things and walk back to the car as I was obviously using cane to walk. I brought this to her attention whereupon she placed a flat cover over the milkshake and then taped it over. She then place both items in a mini shopping bag with a handle. The food comes out relatively quick - but keep in mind everything is made to order. So allocate about 8-12 minutes for each order to be made. This place shares a busy parking lot with Starbucks and Sprouts. Sprouts is a big grocery store. So there's lots of hussle and bussle. I can always find a space though. read more

I tried this location in Albany since it is close to Whole Foods Market off Gilman. The only complaint about this location is parking...so many people either doing their grocery shopping at Sprout's or drinking at Starbucks. The inside of Habit is decent. The tables are not clean but I should not complain since plenty of people love to dine in. I will admit the self service to order your food compare going straight to the cashier is convenient...allowing you to custom your food compare to telling the cashier what you do not want in your burger. I was craving hamburgers but wanted to try something new, so we searched around and discovered The Habit. We ordered through the app, which is why I don't have the usual quick summary section because everything about this app was based on the meal. The ordering processes was pretty cool because I got to customize the hamburger and the fries. I made mine with extra lettuce and tomato, with mustard inside. We also ordered one hamburger and swapped out the hamburger bun with the sourdough bread. The fries; however, I believe customizing the crispiness might be better done and tasted at the restaurant than having it delivered. All had the same texture by the time it was delivered to our home. The hamburger was really good. Happy points for the size of the hamburger because it was large. Lately, most of the hamburgers at restaurants are as small as kids meal, so I got disappointed (and still hungry after eating). The burger was cooked through and was a typically good meat patty. I loved how the lettuce was cut; it made it easier to eat. The pickles had a strong sour punch to it, sometimes shining in flavor over the meat, so while I like pickles I believe it's good to leave it as default and not request extra. Another favorite was the chicken tenders. It was juicy in the center and the exterior was crispy. The seasoning on the chicken skin wasn't too salty either, perfectly made. While it was good on its own, it also tasted better with the boom sauce. The sauce is tangy and the spiciness creeps in afterwards. I have low spice tolerance, but I was able to eat this. I placed a phone order for The Habit in Albany this evening at 9:10pm. The representative took my credit card information, confirmed the order, and told me to pick it up at 9:31pm. I drove to the restaurant and got there on time. The doors were locked. I knocked. A staff member came to the door and I asked for my pre-paid order. The staff member, who stated they were the manager, told me they had no order. I explained the situation, and asked to speak to the person who took my order and who instructed me to come pick it up. The manager told me there was no one to speak to and that phone orders are taken by a separate call center. The manager was completely indifferent and unapologetic. I left and called The Habit's phone number again. A helpful customer service representative explained that they are a third party call center, and that the restaurant must have accepted the order (because it was confirmed when I placed it) and then cancelled it later, with no notification. In stark contrast to the on-duty manager, the representative was apologetic for what happened. I have a lot of empathy for underpaid and overworked service workers, but I really didn't appreciate the complete lack of understanding from the restaurant manager. The round trip wasted 30 minutes of my time, and the least they could have done was notify me if they were going to cancel the order after it was accepted. In looking at other reviews for this location, it looks like customer service is not a strength. Regrettably, my experience was consistent with that. read more

It was a toss-up choosing to go to McDonalds down the street or The Habit Burger Grill. We ended up here. Three of us ordered the #1 Original Charburger that came with drinks and French fries. There was nothing extraordinary about the burger. The patty was kind of small and the burger disappeared in no time. Maybe I should've gotten the Original Double Char. French fries were almost as good and tasty as McD, but I admit that is hard to beat. What's special about Habit is the condiments space. There's no having to ask for anything. There were different kinds of sauce packets including hot sauce, 3 types of hot peppers (those little ones are pretty hot!), and bottles of malt vinegar, etc. Habit is clean and spacious, has a gallon of hand sanitizer, and you can eat at indoor or outdoor tables. When I got home my food was still warm and the Charburger was well done and made according to my modifications and the fries were tasty, not too hard or too soft, but there were no ketchup packets at all.
