Looks like an affordable place but it's ridiculous how they charge extra for everything, got one carnitas super burrito and a jarrito and total came out to $18. Mind you on the menu it shows the burrito is $11.80, also the employees just seemed a bit rude like as if I was a disturbance for even coming in to buy food. I use to always come here as a child. For the first time in a long time (4 years) I ordered though DoorDash for pick up. There seems to be no structure for pick up orders and people actually waiting in line to place an order. A DoorDasher before me got his food as he flashed his phone to show the name so I did the same and she ignored me and proceeded to do something else after helping five customers and I'm waiting patiently she finally asked me what my name was and all along and behold, my food is just sitting behind her the entire time getting cold. I haven't been there in a while, so I don't know if this lady knew but she definitely needs to work on her communication skills. read more

This place has been going down for a while and today is my last time going here. Not only the food quality has been subpar, somehow there was a piece of rock in my supper burrito. The crack from biting the rock so hard that my wife heard it. My tooth hurts now. I then found two more pieces of rocks in the rest of my chile verde burrito after checking it. This place gets five stars because it's somewhere I have and will continue to visit time and time again. This has been a staple spot since high school! Yes there are better burritos in SF but this is my favorite in the East Bay. I always get a carne asada super burrito. The super burrito is just a bigger tortilla and they melt cheese on the tortilla. Guacamole and sour cream are extra $$$ and they don't give very much guacamole but it's only $1.50 extra so in this economy they probably give $1.50 worth of guac. They ask if you want tomatoes (pico de gallo) and hot sauce (salsa verde). I have a low spice tolerance (e.g. I think hot Cheetos are spicy and I get extra of the "hot sauce" aka salsa verde. The burrito is very soft since they steam the tortilla to soften it and melt the cheese on it so it's missing a textural element. PRO TIP: bring it home and crisp up the whole burrito on a cast iron pan. Doing this completely elevates the entire burrito. read more

Never ever again. I walk in and they are having the most pleasant and extended conversation full of laughter with a Spanish speaking Uber eats driver who was double parked blocking busy Solano. When they decide to help me a heavy set mid twenties woman looks at me and loudly says, "Next!" I say hello to her with a smile yet no response. I should have walked out but proceeded to order. When it was time to pay, older small woman at register loudly says, "$15.40!" I usually give 25 plus % tips even when I take out. Not this time as I left zero. The burrito was very average and not worth $15.40. It tasted of old cooking oil and I am not sure that was chicken... whatever it was, was not fresh or tasty. Not fancy, but reasonably priced, good portions, great flavor. Often a line, but it moves fast; they're very efficient; the workers tend to be there for the long haul. This place has been here for Years!!! Dang even before I was in high school. That's a long time! It's a favorite place some of us go to late at night when I was in my 20's, especially. I live in Vegas now, and visited home (the bay) during the holidays, and coming here was definitely nostalgic. Still very good burritos! Dang, writing this review right now makes me want some now, but I'm in Vegas. Lol. The burritos aren't bad but they're not great either. I did try a chicken quesadilla there a few months ago and it was absolutely horrible. Instead of cooking it in a skillet like they do at cactus, basically it was just in a machine which melted the cheese onto a tortilla with some chicken. I could not eat it. It was inedible. When my sons were in kindergarten and second grade, we lived in University Village while I attended UC Berkeley. Now, over a decade later, we still make the trek over the San Rafael-Richmond Bridge several times a year for these burritos. They're a family favorite. Always satisfying. The shredded chicken is my favorite. The pinto beans and salsa are always fresh. The portions are generous that I always end up with two meals instead of one. I tried ordering online this time and they got the whole order correct and it was ready at the specified time, even though I'd placed it hours in advance. Solid execution start to finish. I hadn't been in since COVID-19, but they've got plastic barriers up to shield customers and employees. Gloves and masks were being worn. I'll admit we've never explored the whole menu. We've all found our favorites and return to them time and time again. When I asked my boys why Gordo's are their favorite burritos, they just shrugged and said, they're just always really good. Review is for takeout only. The order was made quickly after I placed it. The food was hot and items were accurate: regular chicken burritos. It was missing the condiments though. I'm not certain if they typically put the salsa on the burrito or on the side. Either way, I didn't taste or see it. Overall it was a decent size however it tasted very dry and wasn't that flavorful. I initially thought they also forgot to put Pico in it but it was just placed on one corner of the burrito. Overall nothing to write home about. I dont usually eat Mexican food because 9/10 i always taste a hint of fabuloso in the food, but this place did not, therefore this place is a win win. I put it in water and it stained the water brown, then became soft- does rice do that?! I AM HERE FOR THE CRUNCHY CARNITAS TACOS & GREEN SALSA! My order: 1 crunchy taco with carnitas, extra green salsa and guacamole. No sour cream. 5/5! They put some oil down on the grill, toss a corn tortilla on the oil and slap a cheese on it, let it crisp up. They take out a chunk of carnitas (they pack on the meat) and chop it up then assemble. Tortilla with melted cheese, carnitas, add a dollop of guacamole and a boatload of green salsa (per my request). I even ask for an extra side of green salsa because I love it that much. One taco is enough to get me full and is my go to order. My husband always gets a carnitas burrito with spinach tortilla. I have tried it but I am not a huge fan, and it does not compare to my crunchy taco. The burrito is very uneven. I like each of my bites to be the "perfect bite" with a little bit of everything. With the burrito some bites is just meat while other bites is just rice. Not my jam so that is why I prefer my crunchy taco. Parking can be limited, seating is limited as well. It's more of a grab and go situation. If you ever give this place a chance, please get the CRUNCHY CARNITAS TACO. read more

This is a forever favorite for me and my family. We have been coming here ever since I can remember. The prices are so reasonable and every burrito is made with love and friendship. I got the beef burrito with black beans rice and their green medium salsa. It's the perfect dinner and the steak is always nicely cooked. My mom got the super steak burrito with no beans sour cream and rice. She loves the pico cause there's not too much cilantro. Everyone is so friendly here and the service is fast. Decent for a quick bite. As a disclaimer, I'm admittedly picky about my Mexican food. I've been to this location twice and the food was inconsistent. The burritos seem to be the way to go for consistency. I've ordered quesadillas from here twice and the second time unfortunately it was very very juicy and therefore falling apart as I tried to eat it. The bottom of the takeout container had a layer of fluid which I didn't find appealing. Since this is primarily a takeout spot, there are no restrooms here. Parking on solano can be a little crowded during busy times but the residential areas adjacent may have a spot to park for two hours. This is probably not going to be my go-to spot for Mexican food anytime soon, but I may come here when I need a quick bite. read more
