Been a customer for many years now. The quality of the food and the service continues to fall. Used to be a good place for salads but now they have cheep low quality lettuce. Used to get a ranch for the fries no cost, now they charge. Today's order was quite delayed. I went up to the counter and asked about it showing my order number, I was just asked what I ordered instead of using my receipt which was interesting. They looked over at the counter and said it was coming up next. Noticing that the order being referred to was sitting there while I even waited to be helped, I asked if it was still hot. "Yes". Sad... so sad. They just can't seem to make sweet potato fries right. Either stale, overcooked, or just not flavorful. Hard to mess up if you keep it simple and fresh. Somehow they do, nearly every time. Furthermore, my last family visit the manager was pretty rude when they got my son's order wrong and I asked them to kindly fix it. She put on a little demonstration forcefully throwing the whole meal in the trash in front of us and the other customers standing in line. Habit Food is always a good go to for sure! Never been into this place. The woman in the back, assuming cooking was super friendly. She automatically smiled and kept smiling. I love great customer service like hers. The cash register area was empty and so was the customer service. I assumed the cashier was the young lady I could see cleaning tables off to the side. I know she saw me, as we made eye contact but she definitely made it a point to act like I wasn't there. I was there to pick up an order, expecting great customer service to go along with the great order. She finally decided to come up to the counter, and I went out of my way to be friendly and begin a pleasantry, but she went straight to business. So I, taken back, was "Ummm here to pick up an order". She dismissively said "Its probably over there..." and pointed to some place in an area where there was a shelf. Terrible experience. I went to support a fund raiser. There is Zero customer service. They are too busy filling orders for fries. You cannot customize on the screens that they have if you want your burger well done or rare. Oh, you want extra dressing or BBQ, that's an extra charge. Really? I used The Habit App and ordered two Half Chicken Sandwiches to go I asked for two small cup of Ranch Dressing and the manager told me she has to charge me for $1.29. I said NO, next couple of days I dined in with my wife and order the same thing the funny part they gave me two small cup of Ranch Dressing for free. WHAT A JOKE. I contacted The Habit corporate office and tell them my story. This is what I got from them. A scripted response: "Thank you for contacting Habit Burger & Grill! I apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused. Due to rising business costs we now need to charge for additional sides that historically were given at no additional charge. We value your business and we hope to see you again soon!" Now I understanding in cutting cost, but they are serving small burgers , smaller food portions and still charge their high price. Gee I am not the only one to be charge. Not only I will never go this this Habit store. I use to eat with my family on Saturdays dine in. I am now going to either order via app for Chili's their $10.99 burger, which is cheaper and BIGGER (every notice how small Habit burgers are?) and which comes with drink and side. Something has changed. Very disappointed. Did the corporate owners change? Did the franchise owner change? Did their goals change? Their crispy chicken sandwich used to be my go to. It was thick, larger than the bun and good. It seemed like a real chicken sandwich. Guess I haven't ordered one in a while. The one I got tonight was maybe 1/2" thick and did not reach to the edge of the bun. There seemed to be as much coating as there was chicken. Felt like cheap fast food. My wife's Harvest Chopped Salad which advertised candied pecans had just a few in the bottom. With a 50/50 onion rings/fries order and NO drinks we spent thirty dollars on our meals. The Habit is always a good choice for a meal especially with kids. While the Santa Barbara char is my favorite, the salads and tuna and chicken sandwich are all great options; you really can't go wrong. I was bummed they didn't have the tempura green beans tho because I've been loving those as a side, but the sweet potato is good too. They have really good ranch for dipping. I love that their little condiment bar also has chili, jalapeños and banana peppers. My daughter loves the hamburger and it's so fun that the kids meal comes with a little burger gummy candy. I've always liked habit back in the day when it was full of people but now it's again after COVID hit everything fell .. we now have touch screens which again I get it if your busy and need to order quickly but I wanted to talk to someone not a robot. The cashier/ expo was doing his thing and I saw a older lady Infront of me so I was waiting . He told me I can use the screens on the side and I told him nope I would love to speak to a human being. So, against my better judgement I ordered here again.... and it was wrong AGAIN. It is a very simple order, double char with cheese add avocado and well done fries... did I get that avocado? Nope... so glad I paid for that again. Should I have checked, probably. Should I have to check? No - that's actually someone's job that works there -- technically two people's job (including the cook who made it). How were those well done fries? Well -- not only were they not well done, about a third of them were actually under cooked to the point that I just threw them out. Actually, even the burger was not as good as it usually was -- budget cuts? Cheaper ingredients? It was yet another bad meal courtesy of The Habit, Simi Valley I have documented so many failed meals at this point that this low level of quality is apparently all the staff and management can muster at this location. And actually, this is a failure of the District or Regional Manager who is responsible for this store. Why do I say that? Well, sort the reviews for this store by Newest and you will see a lot of low ratings and complaints. Obviously the staff, the store management, the regional manager and maybe even corporate simply do not care about their customer's experience when eating at this location. I used to L O V E eating at the Habit and specifically at this location. But I get it, you've shown me who you are.... I believe you now. I am done. And to the corporate management -- no one wants your coupons to 'make it right'.... you should be holding your staff to a higher bar to 'get it right the first time, every time'. This is one of our favorite places to eat in Simi. The good always tastes great. The staff is so sweet, always take such good care of us. Mariah pretty much knows our order when we walk up to the register, (my husbands special requests for his burger and sandwiches are complicated but she is right every single time), it amazes me. All of the staff go above and beyond; when they are out cleaning tables and restaurant areas, they stop by to give us a smile and ask about our day and they always end up taking our trash to dispose of it for us & even often ask to refill our drinks for us as well (all of which are not their job). I always finish my meal so satiisfied and leave the place with a smile. Oh and I can't forget to mention, Mariah also always makes my husband the greatest shakes. He looks forward to it every visit. Kadijah who works the registers and wears a head scarf is incredibly rude. I came in to pick up my Postmates order and as she was about to staple the bags closed I asked if I could check real quick to make sure the order was correct. She rolled her eyes and stepped away without saying anything. I had to reach across the counter to grab my bags and when I checked, we were missing an order of fries which I politely notified her of to which she simply answered "no". I politely told her how many orders of fries there should be to how many were in the bags to which her response was to check both bags 3x over because she didn't want to be wrong. Once she realized there was in fact an order of fries missing, she asked the cook to hand her an extra order, placed it in the bag and walked away leaving me to have to reach across the counter again to grab my bags. I've been a fan of The Habit for many years - when they were still mainly in Santa Barbara / Ventura Counties. Now they're spread far and wide, and are still making great burgers, plus salads, and options for chicken or albacore tuna on the sandwiches or salads, in addition to the beef. Their shakes are delicious, though I'm staying away from high calorie beverages these days, so they're a fond memory only for now. Thankfully, the burgers are so flavorful that a single vs. double is still satisfying. I might only indulge in having a gooey burger about once every couple months, so a really tasty one makes me happy. They've worked out a solution for drive-thru service, even though they don't have a formal drive-thru lane. You can either order when you get to their parking lot venue, or else order online in advance. Either way, they communicate with you when your order is ready. They set up an outdoor pick-up station so that the public stays out of the kitchen area / dining room. The young man at the drive-thru lane was really friendly and helpful. Since we'd ordered online in advance, he let us know where to wait and where to go when it was time to pick up the order. We sat in our car in the adjacent parking lot to enjoy our food, with the spring breeze coming through the windows on a lovely evening. Even sitting in the car with that fresh air passing by made the food taste even better. Just a break from being in the house helped! This Habit location has always been my go too spot. The fries, the burgers, the grilled cheese sandwiches as well as it's delicious lemonade. All of it. Period. It always tastes super fresh and recently made which we all want. They always got great service too right from the door, but of course they are going to have a peak hours and it'll get busy right away. Something I try to do is always order ahead on the app because people will be waiting. Prepare yourself as they usually get busy from 6 to 7 and orders are very high so if you order your food at a certain time on the app, you might not get it at the time you'd hope, but that's just what I've experienced. Great place overall and definitely need to explore more of these menu items. So many great food items to taste. read more
