Poor Evansville! The worst Mexican food on the planet! Placed an online order and still had to sit and wait 30 min. for my order once I arrived to pick it up. I was given no cutlery or napkins, then when I checked out the food order, what a disaster! They gave me ice cold chili. It was awful. They didn't attempt to microwave what they had pulled out of the fridge. On the burrito, it was lukewarm with heated lettuce inside of it. I paid extra for sour cream they didn't give me. I tasted the burrito and it was very mediocre Tex-Mex. The staff was poorly trained and inattentive. I guess I'll have to hit the drive-thru, and that will be an upgrade. The food was disgusting! Salsa tasted like tomato paste or off brand ragu. The enchiladas weren't enchiladas, they were just store bought tortillas filled with imitation crab and topped with melted cheese. The rice tasted like box rice and was overcooked and chewy. NASTY! The "pineapple slaw" tasted like straight onions. The black beans were nasty... how do you mess up black beans, just pour them out the can and warm them up. The refried beans looked like hard poop, didn't even try them.... A friend ordered steak fajitas and the steak was chewy and dry. We asked for our money back for everything because we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the food. Also the waitress knew the food was nasty and expressed her opinion. i wish I had listened! I read the reviews that's all the very poor ratings but rationalized that since the really low scores were a couple of years old that perhaps things have changed. I was spending the night in the hotel next-door and didn't want to drive very far to find food so I went to Hacienda and placed an order for what I thought could not be messed up.--Nachos Fiesta. Seriously, how could anyone possibly screw up that particular dish? I ordered as carry out paid my $10.25 and took it to my room. YUCK! There was only a small amount of cheese. A ratio of about three bare chips to each chip which had cheese. There was absolutely no salsa on it, there were a few small bits of tomato here and there, about 10% of what should've been a dish that size, a little bit of sour cream and guacamole in separate containers. Even worse, the nacho chips were STALE!!! They tasted like they have been out of date for several days. in my entire 71 years of lave ver had such poorlyality Mexican food. read more

Most important thing to know about Hacienda - do not go expecting authentic Mexican. It isn't, and doesn't claim to be. Pro tip - when you go, ask for the green salsa. It's free but they'll only bring it if you ask. The ranch dressing is soooo good. Sounds silly, but they make it themselves, and it's a must-order to dip your chips in. The salsa is basically tomato paste, but the green salsa is a spicy, citrusy bowl of heaven and the ranch is the perfect thing to cleanse the palate ;) My favs on the menu are the "three fresh tacos" (different than their regular taco), shredded chicken or pork chimichanga, the burrito combo with cheese soup, and the chicken fajita salad. People love the wet burrito, which is HUGE. The Taste of Hacienda is a great option if you can't make up your mind. There are daily specials which are a good deal. You can get a super cheap lunch. When their many flavors of margaritas are on special, you can get a lot of those on the cheap, too. (They won't get you drunk before you OD on sugar, but they're pretty tasty!) Other positives are: - Great for large groups. - Fun for drunken adults but still kid-friendly. (Loud, casual, and decent kids' menu) - Service is usually great. - Food usually comes out pretty fast, even when with a big group. - Unlimited chips are truly unlimited and if you eat them all up, they WILL immediately bring you more until you are too full to actually eat your meal. read more

It was an alright selection for a Quick lunch. For $5 you really can't go wrong. My tacos were fresh and everything seemed to be in order. Everyone in the restaurant working seemed to be cheerful and in a positive mood which was nice. The decor was dated but maybe that is the look they are going for. The easiest way to judge a mexican restaurant is by the quality of the chips and salsa.... with that said, the chips were ok, but I felt like I was dipping them in bland tomato paste. Essentially, the salsa leaves something to be desired. I had the Hacienda Wet Burrito... I was pretty good. It came with beans and rice. Like Shea B. said previously, the beans "look like dirty diaper". Rice seamed pretty tasteless as well. The burrito was fine though. A big to much sauce and queso for me though. Overall, the food seemed to be pretty "Americanized" watered down taste. I always love authentic mexican food that has quite a bit of spice, and I am not just saying spicey here. I would like to begin by saying, this is my first negative review on Yelp. I have enjoyed this particular Hacienda for over 20 years, I was even employed there as my very first job way back when. I have seen the very good, bad and the ugly over all these years eating at this First Ave location. I was meeting a group (8) of family members there for a birthday last Friday evening and let me tell you from first hand experience that this place has changed significantly. From being employed there, I personally knew the management staff, I also knew how hard working and dedicated all of the servers and kitchen staff were. My have things changed. It was a very busy weekend evening at the Hacienda as usual, with a full house, packed tables, and a small group in the waiting area. We were all seated and the waiter came out and asked for our drink orders. Well, the first experience of the night happened when our beverages came back and 2 of them were wrong. The waiter seemed new to the restaurant or even new to serving tables at all because he kept repeating our orders back to us wrong and somewhat in a fog. I noticed that for the elevated business that evening, they seemed short staff or the staff was not on the floor as much as they should have been with all of the tables seated. Our waiter was so non existent that night that the younger hostess noticed we were distraught enough to come up to our tables and ask if everything was alright and if we needed refills on our drinks. I want to dedicate those two stars I left on this review toward her. Great job. I will not be returning to this location until the management staff kicks it up a notch as they used to be and motivates the staff to be more efficient and enjoy their roles there. Wife and I went to the Hacienda last night. First time in a while. What a disappointment it was. Ordered the Fish Taco Combo which claimed to have grouper as its fish. If there was grouper, it was disguised inside an abandance of breading and absorbed grease. It was also the first time I had ever eaten a taco that was mostly shredded cabbage. The wife had Seafood Hacienda which was about half the serving at a considerably higher price than we had paid the last time. The "mexican" rice was not fresh and many grains were simply too hard to eat and the refried beans has parts that were hot and parts that were cold. We won't go back. read more

We work in Princeton Indiana and visited the Evansville Hacienda last night. It was recommended. Oh my.... I love Mexican food BUT this was almost not edible. First the waitress didn't get my drink order correct. The salsa is tomato paste with some seasoning. The menu described the street tacos so delicious I knew what I wanted right away. Well.... the meat was bland and dry. Didn't c any pineapple salsa. I searched for my cilantro to go on my tacos and found ONE twig with maybe two cilantro leaves. I was going to ask the waitress and she blurted our that's cilantro. Hmmmm yes... but this is for the three tacos?? She brought me a very small bowl of cilantro. Still was looking for my pineapple salsa. Nope. Anyways, we now know not to go back. Hoping to find a good Mexican restaurant in that area since we visit often. Went on a sad night with my wife's family. Mourning the loss of a loved one. The wait staff was very accommodating considering the size of our group. I was not eating because I already knew the quality of their food. She orders a taco salad and I swear when it came it smelled like cat food. The chicken was definitely canned and not even close to being fresh. So no matter how much ranch or sour cream she added she could not choke it down. Even though she had not eaten most of the day and this is her favorite "mexican style" food. And I might add we just wanted to continue on down 1st avenue to our FAVORITE place. This is the place you go when you're tired of eating at Las Bravos and don't mind being disappointed. It doesn't matter if there's two or ten in your party, the staff will frantically search for a table. Service was subpar. We got our drinks before we got a high chair for our son. We actually had to get it. Took forever for the food to come out and when it did it wasn't exactly on the hot side. Hacienda is Americanized Mexican food. I've never had a great meal there. If you're looking for great Mexican food, I would suggest Los Portales or even Los Bravos for something that is more authentic with better food. read more

Hacienda Restaurant is a fun place to meet your friends, The menu consist of many delicious choices of food, from your American standards of Cheeseburger and Fries to their famous wet burrito, sizzling fajitas, or if you just want some soup or salad, I recommend the White cheese and bean Dip as an appetizer , it complements their Chips and Salsa perfectly. They are also known for their Margaritas. A recent visit we were meeting family for a celebration and reservations had been made for 25, when we arrived, somehow the reservation had been lost. We were concerned because it was a busy night. But the staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating. The were able to arrange last minute seating for us and made sure we were taking care of. Hats of to the staff for making our evening enjoyable. read more

MY family and I visited this "establishment" at 9pm tonight. We stood by the door a good ten minutes before another PATRON who walked in after us sought us assistance... we were escorted to an EMPTY dining room.. please note they were only 5 patrons in the bar area... It was another 5 minutes before we were offered drinks or chips or salsa.... which arrived cold, the cheese congealed and the chips covered in a thin layer of solid grease. I ordered a Mudslide, when it arrived I immediately noted it was too strong, as if doubled in strength... When the waiter finally arrived back at our table to take our order we were informed we can only order appetizers or dessert. At 9:30, exasperated I ordered 5 fried ice creams which arrived uncooked and untopped... waiter had to return to kitchen to get toppings... the absolute last proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and led to this bad review was the bathroom... they were filthy AND small, as if put in as an afterthought! My 8 year old got stuck trying to exit the stall.. I had to have her crawl out from under the door and there was barely enough clearance for a small 8 year old to do so... now imagine if you will this being an emergency situation with a full sized adult. I begrudgingly paid my bill, even left a tip to the waiter but I will not be back! read more
