    Chilaquiles verdes

The food always hits the spot! You can expect a homey, well-made dish! My favorite dishes are: the Tampiqueña, flautas, red chicken enchiladas, chilaquiles verde, and all their caldos (various soups). Make sure you order your café de olla - it's a must! Service can be a hit or miss, but as long as you're aware to lower the service expectations, then you should have a good visit. This is a big establishment, good for large parties without ever feeling crowded. The hacienda charm is always a plus too.

Excellent Mexican market with everything you could want or need. Eduardo, the butcher, is the best. They sell me the full beef dino ribs! They're frozen but smoke well. Go see for yourself. Here's a pic if the ribs I smoked for Thanksgiving!

Came here with a big group for a celebration of life event , can tell you that the food and service was excellent!! Great big hall , it would be great for parties on the weekend. I definitely recommend!

Delicious Birria soup, beans and rice, salsa and bean dip. Amazing tortillas. Not busy on a Saturday afternoon.

Friendly staff. Quality food and generous portions. Plenty of room to sit and dine in privacy.

If you follow my yelp reviews, you know I only post if it's extremely good or extremely bad there's not enough stars in here to show how good it was. First of all, the ambience is very nice, very traditional Mexican. It's in the corner of Waterloo kind of hard to get to the entrance but once you're inside, it's great. Now let's get to the meat and potatoes or the beans and tortillas of the food. I had Huevos divorciados which I guess interpreted is divorced eggs? now I understand, one has red sauce one has green sauce. Get it? Divorced? Anyways, my daughter had the chili Verde, oh and the tortillas are delicious like I said in the post the size of man hole covers. The service, the minute you walk in they pour your coffee, water whatever you need and they're very attentive. I can't say enough about the food. I've had the Albóndigas here, the chorizo and now the divorced eggs every dish is five stars always always perfect .

Crowded location but very big inside, love the seafood dish that I've gotten, pricey but worth it!

Main points- do not come here if you are in a hurry, and there is no full bar as listed on restaurant page at time of this review. **************** Pros-everything is homemade. Homemade rice, frijoles, flour tortillas, mole, chips, and salsa, it is a large space for groups, the staff is friendly. Every plate i saw come from the kitchen looked delicious. Cons- could be cleaner, service takes a long time, time management is not limited vegan options. ***************** I came here because the restaurant info claimed there is a full bar. Technically this is true... however they do not operate the bar and stated it has never operated in their 8 years of business. They serve beer, wine, margaritas, and micheladas only, for alcohol. Now for the review... Super cute and large space with ample parking. Though the tables and floors appeared clean, there were a bunch of cobwebs on the fake plants and other decor. There were many staff members ignoring us when we entered. We were seated and promptly given homemade chips and salsa and our beverage orders were taken. I noted they have nopales listed as an add-on item so i asked if it was possible to get a nopales taco since i do not eat meat. They said no problem. I could have ordered a salad but they definitely acted like this was going to be fine. So we eat all of our chips and salsa and drink all our drinks and nobody comes to offer refills or bring our food. There was a party going on but there was definitely a lot of staff and other tables were receiving plenty of attention. So a good thirty minutes after we order a lady comes over (possibly the cook, not our server) to bring my dining partners food and to ask me what i ordered because they didn't understand. I would think that if they didn't understand the order they would have asked our server or asked us when the order got to the kitchen, not after making the other meal for my table. Eventually i got to eat. The food was above average.

Small; however, beautiful interior. The service is great! The employees there don't entirely follow back up with you, but they are super kind and will help when they can. I've always gotten the same thing every time and it's become such a comfort food (I'm Vietnamese).

Our table was right next to a metal utility rack they were using to store menus and cleaning products. That's fine, but my head was close to a spray bottle and a bottle of Lysol, which wasn't ideal. They were very busy, so we had high hopes for great food. Unfortunately, many of the items were bland. The beans and rice were especially underwhelming, with very little flavor--you can tell from the picture that the rice is basically plain white rice. My flautas were crunchy with fresh toppings, but the meat lacked flavor. My meal came with a bowl of fideo, but it wasn't delivered before my meal like it was for other tables. In fact, I had to ask for it after our food arrived, which makes me think I wouldn't have received it otherwise. After we finished eating, it took about 15 minutes to get our check. The servers were clearly very busy, but it would have been nice to leave sooner. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back. The noise level was overwhelming, and the food was just okay. If I did return, I wouldn't order anything that comes with beans and rice.

The maximum occupancy is 49 people, but it felt roomier inside than that. The decor is okay and the place seemed clean overall. Service - Service was pretty good. Our server was very friendly, and service wasn't bad. The only blemish was she did not check in on refills very frequently. I managed to get one, but my wife did not. By the time she asked again, we had finished our meal and were ready to go. A pretty small blemish, and not a dealbreaker for us. Food - The food was outstanding. My wife got the fajitas and they looked great! She loved them. I got the alambres and they were fantastic. Add in the homemade tortillas (both flour and corn) and it's an easy five stars! Their rice, beans, and salsa were all good too. No complaints at all with the food. Overall, I'd definitely come back again. The food was great, the people were super friendly and welcoming, and we were able to get a table right away. It's very close to the freeway, so when coming from out of town it's an easy on/off too. Great spot!

We came here on a whim last weekend, and OMG, I'm so glad we did. The restaurant is small and not in the greatest location, but the food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. I can't wait to go back! The tortilla chips are a mix of corn and flour, which was a nice surprise. Literally everything we ordered was so good! I went with the build-your-own combo plate and chose a cheese enchilada, beef taco, and beef flautas. My entire plate was delicious, including the rice and beans. The homemade tortillas were so fresh and tasty. Everyone in our party of four enjoyed their food. We split the three-piece quesabirria tacos, and they were excellent. I chose the gravy cheese enchilada for my combo plate, but I also tried my partner's green chili chicken enchilada--both were great. You can choose between red, green, or gravy sauce for the enchiladas, and I definitely want to try the red next time. Don't be turned off by the unassuming storefront and corner location. This place is serving up some seriously delicious food, and it's absolutely worth the visit!

I chose La Mesa because the first time we went I was very impressed with the delicious drinks and the short rib enchiladas. The atmosphere is so special and intimate whether you're on a date or with family. Both times we went, our servers were friendly and checked on us appropriately. Our server yesterday was handling making drinks at the bar and serving other tables that were there for Valentine's Day, but she still provided us with really good customer service (not sure of her name but she was wearing a pink shirt). We ordered a few drinks that included a strawberry horchata with rum, and a special one for Valentine's Day called the cupids kiss. They really stood out to me with how cute and yummy they were. For an appetizer, we ordered birria French fries. I was surprised that it had the consommé because I assumed it would make the fries soggy.... But it did not! They were AMAZING. The birria was tender and delicious, the flavor had a lot of depth in the consommé. For our entrees, we both cannot get enough of the short rib enchiladas with the mole sauce. They are our favorite. I really am just grateful that there is a restaurant like this that cares about the food they share with their customers. In the past, we ate at restaurants for my birthday where they didn't take as much pride or care about what they served. My birthday dinner at La Mesa felt very special to me and my boyfriend. Thanks a bunch we look forward to our return visit!

La Mesa is the forgotten child. When going to MT and PT it feels upscale and an experience, with excellent food to boot! But La Mesa's ambiance, food and asmosphete is just not hitting the same. I bet with some aesthetic adjustments and a shift to more upscale dining like their sister restaurants this has a lot of potential.
