My family and I don't usually write restaurant reviews, but Hacienda Tapatio absolutely deserves one. The food was authentic, flavorful, and easily some of the best Mexican food we've had in a long time. But the real reason I came back just three days later was Oscar. From the moment we sat down, Oscar made us feel genuinely welcome. He listened, paid attention, and somehow picked up on exactly what we liked without us having to explain much. My mom, brother, sister, and I are pretty particular about spicy food. We never asked for anything special, but Oscar came back from the kitchen with a full assortment of salsas, pickled jalapeños, carrots, and different levels of heat for us to try. It turned into its own little tasting experience, and honestly, that alone won us over. He also helped guide us through the menu and made sure everything matched our tastes. The food did not disappoint. It was fresh, full of flavor, and felt genuinely authentic. In the Calabasas area, that is not always easy to find. The experience stayed with me, so 3 days later I brought my wife back. I was lucky enough to see Oscar again, and somehow he remembered me, what I liked, and even the spicy tasting plate from our first visit. That kind of care is rare. We also got to meet Oscar's wife, Yadira, who was just as warm and kind. The whole experience felt personal, relaxed, and welcoming. Hacienda Tapatio is absolutely worth visiting for the food alone. I've been here a handful of times, and the ambiance is fun. My kids love the life-like animal statues at the entrance, and I like that it's kid-friendly. Plus, they have some happy hour specials (which they will do anywhere in the restaurant, no need to sit in the bar if you don't want to). However, while very kid-friendly, their vegetarian options are fairly limited, basically a cheese quesadilla or a tostada salad is what they have for non meat-eaters. The complimentary bean dip that comes with the chips and salsa is also made with meat (chorizo), which the server may or may not warn you about when they plop it onto the table. read more

Came here a few weeks ago with a party of five on a hot summer day trying to enjoy some cold beers and good Mexican food. That clearly failed us, the service was NOT good, they ran out of certain Mexican tap beers and the rest were warm cuz their fridge didn't work. Also, the AC didn't work in the middle of summer for a fairly new spot with lots of potential. Oh, not to mention the food was horrible. When's their last night with my husband who is Mexican and we love Mexican food. The place we loved the ambiance the service was excellent. I have to say though the chef needs to be changed Mexican food is full of spices and flavor in this unfortunately had none of that. We had tortilla soup which is my favorite It was literally tomato soup. We have the carne asada steak and it was all right but nothing to brag about. Shame because we really loved the place. They just need to talk to the chef and change their tortilla soup and add some vegetables in it and some flavor because it was horrible. read more

Delicious Mexican restaurant in Calabasas. The Birria dish amazing and hearty enough to split between two people or have enough for leftovers. I recommend the flour tortillas with them. Finally got around to see how the new management at Hacienda Tapatio is doing. To start their drinks are stiff. Tried the happy hour margarita and Cadillac margarita. No cutting corners here. The food is good and plentiful. Fajitas Tapatio came with steak, chicken and shrimp. I think the steak and chicken can use more seasoning/marinade. Burrito Tapatio with carnitas was tender and juicy. Tasted almost like lengua. Finally we tried the pozole, which was a little too light for me. Can use more seasoning. Service was very friendly and prompt. Updated decor and furniture also freshened up the restaurant. Overall a 3.5 star experience. read more

I am currently sitting at my table at the restaurant, just finished eating, and couldn't wait to write this review. Everything was perfect. The customer service, the chips and salsa, the atmosphere, the super crisp Diet Coke, and my amazing dinner. We got the birria plate and the carne asada burrito. We're new to the neighborhood and happened to drive by and decide to try this place and we're so happy we did! The service was amazing from start to finish. Owner personally came over to welcome us and walk us through the menu since they've just opened, which was such a nice touch. Everyone was incredibly sweet and accommodating. What a disappointing soft/grand opening. The renovation inside was nice but the food was terrible. My hubby and I ordered guacamole to go, mini flautas, and a chicken burrito. They didn't have 10 oz containers for the guacamole so it came in 2 small containers. It's tasted good but I'm not sure if I got the right size for the price I paid. The small amount of chips they provided were stale to boot. Then the chicken burrito was gross - old and burnt chicken cut in small pieces, did they use left over food from lunch to get rid of it? I also wish the burrito came with a side of rice and beans but it didn't because it was inside the burrito. The mini flautas came with a side of sour cream, green sauce, pico and lettuce. We won't be ordering flautas because there was cinnamon or some kind of sweet spice we did not care for. What a terrible opening to showcase their food. I want them to be good. Been coming for a couple weeks now and this place is great! Taco Tuesday just blew my mind, $2 tacos!! Tried birria, carnitas and asada and they were very good. Usually I would go for asada burrito w/ green sauce, although went for enchiladas alongside tacos. Can also get different meat in enchiladas, just went for beef and chicken although next time I'll try birria / carnitas enchiladas! I went there last night with my family. It was not busy. The server took twenty minutes to first come to the table. We ordered our food. The food took one hour to come out! My son and I ordered chicken taquitos. I ordered also the chicken tortilla soup. My husband ordered the carnitas. He thought the carnitas were just ok. The chicken taquitos had zero taste. They actually looked like they were frozen, definitely not made fresh. They were small and each one looked exactly the same. The tortilla soup tasted like a can of enchilada sauce! What a huge disappointment. We sent back the taquitos after we each took one bite. No manager came over. We really wanted this place to work out. We were hopeful. We read the reviews from when they first opened and they were pretty bad. We love El Tapatio in Woodland Hills. So we gave it a try. Don't bother going there. I tried all El Tapatio restaurants and I was excited to try an actual restaurant. I came in a Friday night for dinner and what an amazing time I had. Mariachi arrived at 7, bonus. The restaurant is beautiful decor. Reminds me of the restaurants in Placita Olivera or actual Mexico. We started with chicken taquitos appetizer, bomb. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned, I didn't need to add lime or salt like other places. I had 3 raspberry martinis , no added syrups, they nailed it. I had tilapia dish with rice , with corn tortilla. My bf had cheese enchiladas, rice and beans, they came out amazing. The mariachi walks around and takes request.
