Hackney auto is the most well run shop I've come across. Great value, work gets done quickly and the staff is always friendly.

I was charged almost $200 for a diagnostic on my brakes. They took all day to look at my truck and when they finally got to it only removed one tire. They did not look at the passenger side or rear brakes at all before quoting me over $2400 to replace both front brakes. They lied to me, telling me that the rotors and calipers on both sides needed to be replaced due to the pads wearing down enough to damage the rotors. The passenger side had almost new pads as well as a perfect rotor. THEY DID NOT EVEN TAKE OFF THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES. read more

Hackney is possibly the best in town. I have two Toyota's, a 2004 V8 4runner and 2015 Prius and I'm a picky kinda customer. I don't expect perfection but I do expect good service, quality work and fair prices. Hackney Auto meets my needs and then some. Pro Tips - be sure to tell your mechanic everything about your vehicle. Don't hold it back if you worked on it yourself and messed it up. They'll find out either way but if you tell them upfront you're going to save them time and you're going to save yourself money potentially. Also, for older vehicles in particular don't expect everything to be perfect. My 4runner has nearly 200,000 miles on it and is still running strong but it definitely is showing signs of age. What I like about working with Hackney is that I feel I have a shop that I can work with long-term. We go over all the things I need to be done to the vehicle and anything I can do on my own I will but any of the big jobs a save for them. Overall my experience in Hackney has been fantastic and I sincerely appreciate their consistent quality even during the pandemic. read more

The people here are nice but they either dont know what they're doing or like to scam people. I had an engine problem and they kept my car for two whole weeks and said they fixed a bunch of random small things but ultimately said they had no idea what specifically was causing my engine problem. They said one of the things they did could possibly have fixed it but they weren't sure? Thousands of dollars later, the issue is still there. Not worth it since they didn't actually fix the problem after having my car for two weeks. Waste of money and time. read more

Another service provider recommended this place to me but I cannot recommend them to anyone. They are total jerks and not good at what they do either. I came in with my RV and had some issues that I had already gotten advice about from a mechanic friend about. I was telling them this and they said, "well maybe you should take it to your mechanic friend then" Seriously? Who says that to a customer? Total jerks. They also said that they don't install customer provided parts, not because they could guarantee them or warranty them, but because "parts sales cover the overhead"--ok, selling your customers parts at jacked up prices covers the overhead. $130 a labor hour on RV service when they don't even have a lift won't cover overhead. Ok. And they only reason I brought my own parts was because they are hard to source--if I could be a parts Pollyanna and not worry about them, that would be great. And that seems like the ideal customers for these guys. So they were only able to do one of the 4 things I needed and that was replace the ignition switch, which they did. But they didn't put the steering wheel back on right so it is no longer sitting straight when the wheels are straight, it's cocked to the right about 10 degrees. And it's making a clicking noise when I turn. And the whole steering column feels looser like they didn't put it back together right. AND, they said it didn't fix the instrument panel but it totally did fix it--but since this was my hypothesis, obviously, it couldn't be right, right? Anyway, I went to pick it up and paid and asked when it was and they had put in the overflow parking -- you know when you go to a nice mechanic and they pull your vehicle around for you? This place is a joke. They gave me a faulty auto part. After I got my car back it started making extremely weird noises which I had never heard before. I took the car back to Hackney, and Tommy (the owner/manager) stated that the sound was completely normal and that is what you get when you purchase an 'after market' product. BS. $1000 dollars later, my car has failed me twice. This place is unreliable and Tommy is extremely rude and dishonest. I will never go back here again. read more

I've been taking all of my cars and my motorhome to Hackney for service since 2009. They have always done a great job, been fair in their pricing, and have gone above and beyond to give me great service. They also guarantee their work, so the one time they had to redo something because a part they had installed failed it didn't cost me a dime even though it wasn't their fault that the part was faulty. I also really appreciate that they have been stringent about requiring everyone who enters their premises to mask during this pandemic so I have been able to feel safe waiting for my vehicle on simple service jobs. Went in for a simple door handle repair and left with a window that didn't operate. Apparently they removed the whole door panel to fix the door handle which is fine but when I reported the window issue they said they would charge me if it was something they didn't cause. I didn't understand that logic because the window worked just fine before I took my car in and I shouldn't be responsible for a damage that wasn't there before. I would definitely recommend this place. My husband and I brought our two cars there for routine maintenance. The staff were all friendly and professional. They were accurate in estimating the wait time. They performed the services requested, and there were no big surprises of getting hit up for big, unnecessary extras. The prices were also reasonable. Simply the best! I had a tire pressure alert on my rear passenger tire. I checked the pressure and it was fine. I took my car to Hackney to replace what I thought was a faulty tire pressure sensor. They found out that the last time my tires were rotated (at another garage), they didn't reprogram the TPMS sensors. They reprogrammed the sensors, topped off the tire and sent me on my way with No Charge! Best service ever and super trustworthy. read more

This is a late review as I got my work done like 4-5 months ago, but I need to go back for some maintenance work which reminded me. Really good customer service. I was there for quite a while (my car was in a bad state) and I had no way to go anywhere else so I was stuck there, but they took care of me. My car runs so much better since I've been there. I tend to let things build up and usually it's 600+ for repairs when I go to chain shops, but I felt they were honest and the pricing was great! I have a coupon deal with them so that helps. They are great! I have been taking my car here for about 2 or 3 years now. I first went in after purchasing a VIP card from a door to door solicitor and I was so happy with their friendly and quality service that I've kept going back for all of my oil changes and maintenance. They are family operated and that is very important to me. I remember one of the girls telling me once "I'll have my brother call you back with a quote." and that personal touch goes a long way. I took my 1993 RV there to fix my exhaust manifold leak and they actually made it worse! I had a persistent leak on the right manifold. It took over a week to resurface the manifold head and extract the broken bolts and put in some new locking bolts. They only put in 3 or 4 locking bolts and assured me that the existing bolts would hold. when I drove away, the engine sounded great. But a few weeks later, I set out on a road-trip to California. When I was driving through Colorado, I started to hear that classic exhaust leak that I am so familiar with. So I pulled into a shop and had them check it out. Yep, I had a manifold leak alright! The bolts on the right manifold had come loose. Also, the bolts on the left side had come loose too! I had never had a problem with the left manifold but now I do!! Well, at least I broke down in a nice city (Colorado Springs). The shop in Colorado showed me that the locking bolts they had put in were too short. I'm very very disapointed with Hackney. They are ASE certified. But when it comes to exhaust work, they dont know what they are doing. This new shop in Colorado just finished fixing the exhast. It sounds great now and I will leave them a review after I've driven for several hundred miles. read more

DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!! I recently took my car to Hackney. They informed me that my thermostat was messed up and I needed to have them fix it. After fixing it, I noticed my air conditioner was no longer working properly. However, I was leaving on vacation and couldn't make it back in right away. I called them to let them know and told them I would bring it in when I returned. I returned from my vacation and took it in and they looked everything over and told me I had a problem with my blower and I should replace it for $228. They refused to take any ownership of the problem, though I swore it was perfect when I took it to them. They were dishonest. Obviously they messed my car up and then chose to not make it right by fixing their mistake. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN! HORRIBLE!!!! read more

I have taken my wife's SUV here several times over the last few years and have always been happy with quality, service, and price. Recently, my jeep wrangler needed some a/c work that was beyond my amateur skill. While it was there, I had them take care of some routine stuff that I had just been putting off for too long. They were able to troubleshoot the a/c stuff quickly, and do all of the other stuff in a reasonable amount of time. The estimate they gave had parts prices that were reasonable and similar to what I have seen in jeep/off-road catalogues. The labor was less than the cost of the parts to boot (you always hear 'labor is where they get you,' but this was not the case here). The best part of all is they have a service technician that owns a jeep. Most everyone knows that Jeep has a fanatical, cult-like following, and most jeep owners are very particular. Leaving my jeep with a fellow jeep owner put my mind at ease. It's kind of like leaving your kids with the grandparents; you know it's not their first rodeo! Keep supporting Austin's locally-owned businesses, and forget about the corporate monsters that claim they'll save you money. This place actually will. read more
