Disappointed!! The tips were flavorful but very tough. Uneatable. The next visit was disappointing as well because our burgers were well done despite requests for medium rare, medium and we'll done. Three strikes and your out. Save your money and find a restaurant where the cook cares about what he cooks. read more

Excellent Food and Excellent Service! Another great experience at Hagan's Grill. Their food is awesome and consistent. Fresh and made to order. Their menu is loaded with great selections for everyone. Very talented chef and very friendly/caring staff. We started our meal off with a wonderful & flavorful Caesar salad. For our entree's my wife ordered the Oven Roasted New England Haddock and I ordered the Spinach Cheese Roasted Garlic Tortellini. One work Awesome! Our meals were very fresh and flavorful. I was here the same night as James, below, August 11th, and had a completely different experience! We had reservations for a table of 6 at 6:30. I was excited to go somewhere different and the reviews were great. We were seated immediately, but the server was a little slow to greet us and take our drink order. It seemed a long time for our drinks to come. I got the impression they were a little short staffed on the waitress side. Not a big deal, we were not in a rush. Appetizers were the hot thai wings, which no one liked, way too sweet, no heat. The lobster and crab cakes on the other hand? Amazing! Bacon wrapped scallops, great. We had a range of offerings from the menu. I had the fried seafood special, which had a little bit of everything, fried, all overcooked. My mom got the "surf & turf" and when they put it ion front of her, I thought it was the wrong order, steak and shrimp swimming in a gravy? It was not what was expected, but she did say it tasted OK. The worst was my husbands sirloin, ordered medium rare and served well done and gray. Unacceptable!. Of course they cooked a new one, but come on, no one wants to sit there while everyone is eating and then get our dinner when everyone is done. Once it was cooked correctly, he said the steak was fine, nothing great. Service the entire time was very slow, we were barely looked in on for drink refills, etc. Then the worst part was? The chef came out and made the rounds to people's tables, but did not bother to stop by our table that had the overcooked steak and offer some sort of apology. I might go back at some point, based on other reviews, we must have just hit a bad patch. read more

Just tried this place tonight after reading the good reviews. It was even better than we expected! I had the garden salad with the cranberries & walnuts and added the grilled salmon because I saw good reviews on their salmon. It was perfect! Their menu clearly states they will be happy to adjust for dietary and vegetarian requests. I asked what they could do for a vegan entree. It was rice with the vegetable of the evening. Essentially 2 side dishes but billed as an entree. Our server was very nice but it was obvious they did not have a lot of experience in the restaurant industry. Asked to speak to a manager at the end of the meal to discuss adding something to the menu for vegans or those with dairy sensitivities as everything seemed to have cheese on it. No manager on that night. Interesting. Doubt we will return. Too bad as we live locally and like to frequent the locally owned restaurants. read more

I like Hagen's. It's a comfortable atmosphere, and the bar area is small, but fun. Love the chef and the staff. The food is good, but you wish they would switch up the menu a bit. It's a large menu, but even large menus get boring after a while. They changed the menu a while back, but just put a few of their regular specials on it and made a few other tweaks. Oh well. Liked it very much, only complaint was that our son had the chicken parm and the bread crumbs tasted a bit funny, no sauce and cheese on top. Just one big cutlet on top of pasta. This isn't an Italian restaurant so maybe that's just their way. Service was very good, nice atmosphere read more

My husband and I searched the net looking for a good place for dinner while we stayed at the beach. Well, we found a go, it was rated #2 under best rest. At Hampton Beach at Trip Advisor. In case you're wondering Blinks Came in first, not really a rest. But what the heck it's Blinks! Everything was amazing from the lobster rolls to the beet salad. The perfect margarita does not lie! Ridiculously good! My husband got the blackened salmon, and he eats that everywhere, at very good restaurants, he actually said it was the best he ever had! He is not easily convinced either...I got steak tips and scallops, haha, she brought steak knives, I did not need them, melt in your mouth perfection! Can't say enough, I know we will be driving up to this place even though our vacation is over! It is so worth it! Our server was Jen(?), very attentive, helpful and conscientious. read more

Had dinner at Hagan's recently. My wife and I sat at the bar where the service was excellent. We found the bread served at the bar was outstanding. Could make a meal on that bread! My wife had an excellent {special} beet salad and I had the fish and chips which was also excellent. My only complaint is the beer is not cold enough. Just got to turn down the frig a few degrees. I had a reservation with my daughter for 7 pm at this restaurant. We were seated quickly and the server was efficient and friendly. We each had the beet salad with Mongolian beef and we each had a drink. It was good. At 8:07 and before we got our bill ($74 before tip), the owner stopped by the table and asked how everything was. We said very good. She told us we had a few minutes to drink our water as she had others coming in with reservations. We enjoyed our dinner until she hurried us along. It left a sour taste in our mouth. We were stunned as we thought she was just being a good owner/ manager in checking in with us. When the server brought the check, she apologized for the owner's behavior. I live in Hampton but do not intend to go back. read more

Went out for a long overdue dinner with my husband on a Friday night. Got seated right away, very cozy ambiance. Large selection for a small restaurant, good variety of choices on menu. Don't go here for Valentines! Had a terrible experience even though we were loyal, weekly customers and I totally understand Valentines is a nightmare for most restaurants ( and a big money maker) , the meal we were served was a rip off. It appeared everything on my plate had been prepared ahead of time and then reassembled on the dish. Lobster tail was cold and tough and same for the chicken breast. But the kicker was the Bernaise sauce- which was served separately and had seized- all curdled and gross looking. When I questioned the server said "the chef said this is the way it's served -it's the French way" I don't think so ! Also, we had reserved "our table" month ahead and when we arrived (on time) there was a woman sitting at our reserved table. We were sat another table and was told this woman was a friend of the owners and had requested this seat even though we had reserved It. This woman sat and waited for her partner to arrive for at leave another half hour while we were seated elsewhere. So much for loyalty. We won't go back again based on the way we were treated on a very special night. No apologies were made for anything. The best tasting thing we had all night was the chocolate rose we received on the way out the door. read more

Very disappointing. First a salad with browned lettuce and bizarrely placed onions on top, with somewhat stale bread. Then my husband had wild boar which was tough, and I had tempura tuna which was simply not good - too large a piece to cook well rare, and texture was reminiscent of frozen fish. Food is good but noise level even when the restaurant is not full makes this place undesirable for a nice romantic meal. Too bad.

We went to Hagan's recently and we will absolutely be back again! We were seated and helped immediately. Our drinks and appetizer came out very quickly, as did our main course. Our waitress did not take our dinner order until we were done with our appetizer (which I liked), as not to rush us. We got the calamari to start, which was wonderful. I got the saffron bouillabaisse and my husband got the special crab and lobster stuffed salmon. It was, hands down, the best seafood I have ever had (and I'm a big seafood person). To top it off, the service was outstanding. The waitress we had was Karen; if you are lucky enough to get her, your dining experience will be great. Hagan's grill seems to get mixed reviews what I've read online, but after eating there I was impressed. Hagan's has an atmosphere that isn't pretentious or trendy, but it does kind of look like a hipster paradise. Service was great, our waitress Jill, was very pleasant and effervescent. Food and drinks are reasonably priced. I got the Saffron Bouillabaisse and it was fucking FANTASTIC. I loved the sauce and it had generous amounts of seafood. My girlfriend got the Pan Seared Salmon that was a special that night, another amazing dish, LOTS of freshness in the lime cilantro salsa. We also got an order of the spinach ricotta gnocchi... this is where I was a little disappointed, the sauce was just flat, no real flavor or depth, almost like watered down ketchup; REALLY bad. I'm glad this was something we got to split, because if this was my main entree I would be writing a totally different review.. the gnocchi itself though seemed like it was cooked well. That rogue sauce on the gnocchi is the only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars, not 5. BUT the chef did come over and ask how our food was.. I thought that was pretty classy. read more

The atmosphere inside the restaurant is lovely. The menu although smaller in comparison to some but seems to have something for everyone. There food is very good here. Parking can be somewhat difficult. The biggest downside of the restaurant are the bartenders. Never underestimate the power of a good mixologist. People like a well made drink to go with a nice meal. Worst meal ever and we aren't picky. Our baked brie was ice cold, and fish tacos were well done in some pieces and raw in others, like raw as in right off the boat. When we questioned the chef his response was that is how he cooks them. UM? Raw fish? This isn't sushi.. they offered us a free dessert no replacement meal or taken off menu. We declined as our immune system had been compromised enough. Go to CR's instead! Same prices, ten times better food. read more

Dinner on a Friday night. They take reservations which is a plus but wasn't to crowed. Everyone had a great meal. The Indian Curry was excellent as was the hot thai wings for an app. The spice goes to a 10. First timer so I went with a 4. Not to spicy so probably try a 5 next time. Service and drinks excellent and the bread pudding desert was enough for four of us. Casual dining, good prices and an upscalish menu. Will be back. read more

I'm going to start by saying the Best thing I had was the bread and the sever was courteous.That's where the compliments end, I ordered the calamari and it was bland and chewy. I also have the ribeye and i had never had a piece of steak cooked that bad in my entire life. It was overcooked, tough and the fat in the steak did not rendered out to impart flavor at all. My guess is they marked it on the grill and finished cooking it in a microwave. This and sunshine thai are the worst meals I've had in my life!!!! read more

Highly pleased with this place. I've been about a dozen times, or so, and every time is consistent. There have been once, or twice, where the wait-staff seemed not great but hopefully isn't a "keeper" for them. Things are just well done at the place and they know how to treat the costumer, unlike other restaurants in the Exeter/Hampton area. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends. read more

This place is unbelievable. My husband and I have been here on 3 different occasions for dinner in the past month and no matter what we order on the menu, we are blown away. The seafood is DELICIOUS. To date our favorite meals have been the oven baked Haddock (it blew away any Chilean sea bass we have ever had) and the filet mignon is Ruth's Chris status, melt in your mouth delicious minus all that butter they use. The bouillabaisse is a heaping pile of deliciousness and the prices are fantastic. For food this good and the portion size, the cost can easily be in the $30-40 range for meal. Service is great, atmosphere is cozy and the chef actually came out the one night we were there to ask us how are dinner was. Highly recommended! read more

Having just moved to Hampton I was very happy to see there are some quality eateries around town. We've eaten there a few times now and all experience has been positive. We sit in the bar area, high top table, usually by the window where the food comes out. Note to yourself, sometimes it's smoky and your clothes will smell. Bartender is very on ball and quick to bring out a fresh drink if your empty. All my meals have been excellent, salmon, tuna, steak etc. Sometimes the sauces are a little overwhelming but I'm a sauce fan. The owner/chef comes out and introduces himself and makes sure your happy with you meal. I will go back for sure. read more
