Also, they don't offer much in terms of banchans, which seems like a common trend in many Korean restaurants. On the other hand, I would say that their Grilled Mackerel and Grilled LA Galbi is decent. Not good enough that I would go here for those dishes because I have many options for those items. I come for the soondubu and sadly I have given it enough opportunities to impress.

We ended up ordering the Kimchi Pancake with seafood, the spicy bulkoki udon and the jeyuk udon. The kimchi seafood pancake was super crispy and filled with squid and shrimp! It also came with a semi sweet dipping sauce that paired nicely. Both udons came out piping hot and fresh! Udon had a nice chew to it, was loaded with vegetables as well as meat for each dish. The egg was fried and did not have a runny yolk. For sides, they gave us 4 things- a tomato salad, kimchi cucumbers, braised string beans, and bean sprouts. The tomato salad came in this cute apple shaped dish but neither of us really cared for it- this is completely biased though since we're not really fans of tomato. What we really did love was the kimchi cucumbers! Also at the end, they served us 3 pieces of cantaloupe which were very sweet. Overall, yummy food, cute shop, and friendly/nice staff! I'd come back to try their other food options in the future!

The egg tarts we ate 2 hrs later but they were still quite tasty. Very eggy but I liked it a lot. Actually prefer it over Bao's Pastry even though we go there all the time.. It has nice layers in the crust, better than the traditional egg tarts. Not dry, but very crispy. Like a croissant. The drinks, even around Flushing are not like mind blowing, but if you're thirsty and need a beverage, I'd rather drink this than soda, tea, etc. The matcha latte was okay, but I'm not a huge fan of matcha still. Upon arriving, we noticed a considerable number of customers, which initially seemed promising. However, it became apparent that the restaurant was severely understaffed, leading to prolonged wait time after ordering and a less-than-ideal dining experience. Additionally, it was concerning that none of the tables, including ours, had a smoke vent typically found in Korean BBQ establishments. This absence caused discomfort, as I felt surrounded by smoke, which is not conducive to a pleasant dining environment, especially considering potential implications for lung health. We opted for two combos, totaling $220, with the expectation of a premium Korean BBQ experience. Regrettably, our meat was left cooking for an extended period, resulting in it being both dry and burnt. We believe the value did not match the price, especially considering the availability of other nearby KBBQ options. When I raised concerns about the quality of the meat with our server, I received an unhelpful response, with the server suggesting that the dryness was expected due to thickness. This, coupled with issues such as overcrowded grilling and bitter egg soup, left us dissatisfied. After expressing our concerns, however, there was a noticeable shift in service. A new server took over, and our table received more attention, albeit seemingly prompted by our complaint. This change, while appreciated, raises concerns about the consistency of service. Ideally, exceptional service should be standard and not a reaction to customer feedback. It's important that all patrons receive equal attention and service quality from the moment they are seated. While we appreciate the effort put into the banchan offerings, we believe improvements in service, proper staffing, and attention to food quality are crucial for a more positive customer experience. read more

We happened to stumble upon this restaurant. We ordered the Valentine meal set which comes with your choice of a stew and steamed egg. The Valentine was a trio of beef; fatty beef, beef tongue, and beef brisket. All three were delectable. The fatty beef I recommend eating rolled up with the lettuce leaf with some shredded scallion, and then dip it into the soy bean paste. The beef tongue the waitress recommended we eat it with a little bit of the kosher salt. The brisket was the best and saved for last. It was juicy and tender. For stew, we ordered the kimchi stew and that too was very tasty with small bits of pork and tofu. The broth was just slightly sour as it should be from the kimchee. We also ordered thick cuts of pork belly, came with two slices. The waitress recommended we eat this by dipping the pork into the peanut powder and sauce that came alongside the powder, then wrapping it up inside of a thin slice of pickle daikon with a small amount of sliced scallions. The selection and quality was amazing. You also get to select the rice grain you want. I recommend the purple rice which is more flavorful and offer different textures. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was very efficient. Anything we asked she brought within a minute. She frequently checked in on us and cooks our food and cut up the meat. She refilled our salad and shredded onion when asked. She even played with me son and fed him. Dessert was on the house. When we asked for the check, our waitress bought out a chilled sweet pumpkin drink with small bits of pumpkin. Great for hot summer nights. Also on the house was a wedge of pineapple, pre sliced and came with toothpicks for easy handling. I would definitely recommend this place. A sea of little plates of delicacies accompanies the BBQ entrees at Hahm Ji Bach in Flushing, Queens. Hahm Ji Bach is well worth the effort. This is an ideal destination to come with a group -- four, or more, are best. At first sight, the restaurant inspires neither much confidence nor comfort. Cold fluorescent light bathes the grill-topped communal tables. But the earnest greeting of the hostess ushering you to a table surrounded by a clearly contented and almost exclusively Korean clientele is the first clue that you are in able hands. A good start is the Pajeon, a traditional rice flour pancake laden with seared green onion. This arrives sizzling on a cast iron platter, then it's charmingly snipped apart with desk scissors and ready to be dipped in a tangy soy-rice vinegar sauce. One order can easily serve four. Steamed blowfish stew may sound like a reality-show dare, but it's one whose rich broth and deep, complex flavors. The star of the show, though, is the BBQ. There are over a dozen options -- some esoteric: translucent slices of beef tongue, marinated pork neck. A sea of little plates accompanies BBQ entrées, nearly two dozen in all: some garnishes for the meat, others dishes in themselves. Among the best is a succession of bright, house-made vegetable kimchis. A curious but ethereal, baked whipped egg is so fluffy it resembles hot cotton candy. To help wash down all this protein, there is a limited selection of Korean beers, as well as a notable fragrant, distilled rice wine. There is no dessert options, just a complimentary wedge of pineapple and an initially dispiriting, somewhat grim-looking bowl of mush plopped on the table with your check. I recently dined at Hahm Ji Back, a Korean BBQ restaurant that left me with mixed feelings. One thing that caught my attention was the restaurant's size--it's pretty large for a Korean BBQ joint. They were quick to assist us and ensure our needs were met throughout the meal. The cleanliness and upkeep of the grills were also commendable. It's always a relief to cook on clean grills, and Hahm Ji Back delivered in that department. Now, let's talk about the food. While it was good, I can't say it was the best Korean BBQ I've ever had. The menu offered a great selection of dishes, but I was a bit disappointed that each item was served separately. This made it challenging to share evenly among our group. I wish the portions were slightly larger to accommodate everyone better. As a fan of kimchi, I was let down by their rendition. The kimchi here didn't quite hit the mark for me. Hahm Ji Bach is located along with some other good BBQ restaurant but this place has its own unique flavor and taste. From the first visit to the most recent visit I cannot say enough good things about this Hahm Ji Bach. The sitting area is actually very spacious. Each table has a grill that can be utilized or you can order dishes that are prepared in the kitchen area. Before midnight, it is usually pretty busy but the service and expertise of waiters can easily handle it. A few dishes that I recommend are the pork belly, thinly sliced brisket, bulgogi (marinated beef) and the various steaks. The menu also has a lot of other items like appetizers, soups and broths as well as rice dishes. Certain menu items may not be available depending on when you go but there is certainly a good selection. The side dishes (banchan) that come out with every meal fill up a good part of the table top. They include familiar items such as kimchi, sardine with peanuts, potato or macaroni salad, tofu and a slew of other things that go with your meal. You also get salad and lettuce if you want to eat same style. At the end of the meal when you ask for the check, you get a small bowl of pumpkin juice and some sliced pineapple. The pumpkin juice when chilled is very refreshing. This place is very good for late eating. As long as customers understand that when it comes to Korean BBQ, like any popular cuisine or restaurant, being patient is key and the employees at this establishment certainly care about their customers. read more

Hahm JI Bach is a must visit Korean restaurant near Flushing Main Street, this looks like a old Korean restaurant from outside with a little problem with parking space, inside it has tables like a typical Korean restaurant and BBQ grills with each table for live BBQ. A few items that we got a chance to try include were Banchan; the salad is great; it is mayonnaise flavored. Everything is super fresh and delicious. You can taste that the kimchi has been fermented for awhile. The steamed egg is delicious .Bulgogi, very classic sweet meat dish. They make it well. Fried Dumplings, this is loaded with meat. It is very tasty. Thinly sliced Pork Belly, very flavorful. It looks like it has no seasoning, but it is more flavorful than the bulgogi .Marinated Short Ribs, it is sweet and incredibly fresh. The meats aren't a large portion size, but the quality is definitely there. Japchae, the best I've ever had. It has a great smoky flavor. Beef Soondubu, this is a flavorful and loaded with tofu. It has a decent amount of beef .Al Jjigae, I didn't enjoy this. It doesn't seem like a good combination for a spicy soup .seafood Pancake, Crispy and delicious. The service here is great; the servers are very nice and accommodating. All the food came out quickly. They will cook the meet for you if you choose to get barbecue. The ambiance and atmosphere is appealing. It is a clean and spacious restaurant. The place can get loud and it's best for large parties of family or friends. Hahm Ji Bach offers very authentic, reasonably priced Korean food in a restaurant. By far the best part was the extensive, unlimited banchan appetizers. They offer a huge amount of diverse food. From what I recall, there were traditional cabbage-based kimchi ,Stir-fried dried anchovies, potato salad with raisins, boiled eggplant, cucumber kimchi, radish kimchi, cold glass noodles made from sweet potatoes, soybean sprouts, soft tofu, green vegetables . My favorite appetizers were the dried anchovies, potato salad, eggplant, soybean sprouts, and glass noodles. One could fill up on these alone! For the main course, we ordered the samchi gui--grilled Spanish mackerel served with fermented soybean paste soup, and the doenjang jigae--fermented soybean paste stew with seafood, tofu and vegetables. However, the stews were so good with generous servings of seafood. The grilled mackerel--an entire fish--was superb! I've never had grilled mackerel where it was perfectly charred on the outside, yet tender and flavorful on the inside. This is the best version I've ever had before and would highly recommend it. Service was solid, with one exception. Oddly, they don't serve hot water. I had requested hot water, and the waitress said they could only offer barley tea instead. Unfortunately, the tea never came, so we settled for the ice water. The ambiance could be improved with brighter lighting, creating more warmth. We encountered no wait at 8PM on a Sunday. You can always count on Hahm Ji Bach for consistently fresh and good quality food, and amazing waitresses. I've been to HJB twice and I haven't been disappointed. I came here with my boss and coworkers. It was more formal, since my boss was treating, and one of my coworkers actually worked here before. We were all seated in a level downstairs. We ordered 3-4 different kinds of BBQ meats and a lot of different entrees. The food is generally pretty fresh, especially the kalbi, marinated beef, pork belly, bulgogi, and spare ribs. One of our servers accidentally burnt four of the spare ribs and immediately replaced them, and gave us a complimentary clear noodle dish. Anyways, the meat was really good, and fresh. We also ordered Korean pancakes (vegetable + kimchi) and they were both amazing and thick, and not like the packaged frozen ones that some other restaurants serve. I also ordered a dish that had Pollock wrapped in lettuce and drenched in a hot pepper soup base. The Pollock was really fresh and the texture made me feel as if I were eating regular animal meat. It was really good--just the Pollock. Every other component was merely decoration to bring out the best of the Pollock flavor and texture. For a wholesome experience, I recommend that you come here with a large crew. I feel that that is what HJB excels in and it really brings out the character and intention of the meaning behind Hahm Ji Bach. read more

I love Korean BBQ because of its unique taste and the method of making it. I have tried many places before Hahm Ji Bach, but this place servers the most authentic and quality Korean eatery. The food here was remarkable, truly delightful. I was told that in Korean culture you are only supposed to eat one type of meat per meal. Not sure if it's true, but I am so glad I ignored this cultural norm. We ordered the galbi, the balgogi, and pork belly. All were absolutely fantastic. We also ordered these seafood pancake things, probably my favorite part of the meal. Went here with a bunch of friends, eager to try some new things. The service and ambiance that they offer you here is also great, the waiters are active and even if you go in late hours, they don't seem that they want you to leave immediately. The service was excellent, helping us newbie to decide. Not sure if this is the norm, but they cooked in front of us (as opposed to self serve cooking). Perfectly cooked and served. We were a big group, so they gave us a private room. Although there was plenty of room in the main dining room for us as well. It wasn't crowded, nor was the tables stacked too close. Korean BBQ is not cheap. And this place is no different. You go in knowing this, so it's not a surprise. Food quality is excellent though. Will absolutely come back. read more

This place went downhill FAST. I've eaten here 2x before and it was okay, and came here for Mother's Day lunch on Saturday. It was super busy and the staff is overworked. Ordered the seafood stew which was good. It had shrimp, lots of squid, mussels, clams, fish, fish roe and crab. Didn't have lobster in it. It was good, but nothing to write home about, $38. Then ordered short rib galbi $36 and also thick pork $22. The $36 galbi was about 6 oz meat. It wasn't tender, had a bit of sinew in it and the marinade wasn't very tasty - just average. I could have made it at home. The pork was bland and the waitress BURNT my pork. The pan was uneven, so some part was burnt and some was under cook. The flame was way too high. By the end, it was like pork jerky. The dipping sauce wasn't great either. Awful. I was pretty upset that she ruined a $22 dish and not once offered to replace it. She actually said, the burnt bit is tasty. WTF. Ban chan was typical, nothing special either. They tasted like ban chan you can buy at Hmart. The kimchi wasn't even that great. $118 for 3 people and I felt ripped off. NEVER AGAIN. I'm not sure why people like this place at all. There are so many K BBQ place on Northern that is 10X better. read more

This is by far my favorite hotpot place in the city! The service is amazing and the quality of the food is great. We arrived at the restaurant at around 6PM on a Saturday night. There were at least 20 parties ahead of us and we waited about 1.5 hours before being seated. Good news is that they have a little waiting area with free drinks, games, origami, and cell phone screen protectors that you can use while you wait. After we were seated inside, we were given an apron, a bag to put our masks in, and a iPad to place our orders. There's also a sauce bar with complimentary fruits, side dishes, and soup. We got the four soup base option (tomato, mushroom, spicy, and bone broth). All soup bases came with a decent amount of ingredients. I especially recommend the tomato and the spicy broth as both were very authentic. Unfortunately, the dancing noodle was no longer an option due to the pandemic. As other reviews have mentioned, the service here is excellent. They also give you a complimentary soft serve at the end. Overall, wonderful dining experience! Definitely worth a trv read more

My boss took us here with two other co workers. Wow ! This is the best Korean food I have had here in NYC. The restaurant is located at a very convenient location. They do have valey parking to make up of the shortage of Parking spots. We were seated immediately after we walked into the restaurant . It was not busy since it is a Tuesday night . They offer quite a few side dishes as most of the Korean restaurants . But the sauces were very much different than the regular ones. We had combination of pork belly. Duck, beef BBQ. The beef which was number 12 on the menu was out of this world. The duck was great too if you eat it with sauces that come with it. We also got two chicken ginsen soup. We saw the price on the menu was 11.99 we ordered two for 4 of us. But the portion was very large , we actually shared only one soup and took the 2nd one all home . I will difinitely come back with my family soon !! read more

This place used to be great. In my opinion, it's not anymore. People still seem to love going there seeing the lines form outside. Food is decent. However, everything else is pretty crappy. They have poor service. Meat portions are tiny. Sides barely get re-filled. When we last visited, we had 5 guys. Ordered tremendous amount of pork. Towards the end, they totally forgot about us. 2nd order of meat came at least 20 mins late. They didn't bother asking if we needed anything. Having 5 hungry males, you tend to go through a lot of stuff fast. Even when we asked for things, it would be ignored. Or they would asked, "Oh.. you didn't get it yet???". No, we asked you...remember? Anyway, I vowed not to return last time and I did. Now I will def not return again. 2 Stars only because I still enjoy pork no matter the level of service. read more
