Food: ive only had their drinks but not the food yet. It is delicious. Only want to point out for the smoothie that I ordered, it was good but could use more strawberry flavor. It tasted as if I was eating snow mostly. But still enjoyable. I normally get their regular milk tea they offer and I enjoy it with Egg Pudding and Boba. The boba is a bit sticky and large but still delicious. Service: Amazing. Top tier. Super friendly. I order online and come into the shop. And i quickly get greeted with my name. Hearing "JENNIFER! [Parking]: Street parking only (free), but our party came during a not-so-busy Sunday afternoon and was able to find several available spots. [Atmosphere]: The shop has a pretty small space but still has few tables and sofas. The shop also displayed cute crochet items for sale for those who are interested. [Ordering]: Customers can order via a kiosk which is what our party did, but the owner also tried to make small talk and personally I thought it was a little over-enthusiastic. $18 for 2 nasty boba milk teas that we ended up trashing. The "tea" tasted like watered down milk. The boba was only okay. We tried to force them down, but we just didn't think it was worth it. It was honestly the worst milk tea I've ever had. The owner and only person at the counter was extremely off putting. He asked us right when we walked in if we speak Chinese. When my friend said she did, he would not stop talking to her in Cantonese. She informed him that I did not speak Chinese, to which, he started interrogating me about where my parents are from in English. He then only spoke to my friend in Cantonese for the excruciating amount of time we spent there. He insisted that the boba milk tea was the best drink there and kept talking to my friend even when she asked for some time to look at the menu. It felt like he was rushing us to pick something, so we tried to enter it in quickly. He made us feel super uncomfortable. We could not wait to get out of there. The monitor used to place orders on was really confusing. It did not help that we were trying to rush. The man explained it to my friend in Cantonese, so she ordered hers correctly. I couldn't understand him though, so I guess I did it wrong. It had all the milk teas in one listing. I didn't realize that I had to select the type of milk tea when I clicked on this option. We didn't realize that the computer did not charge us correctly. We did not have a receipt, but my friend's phone showed that she got charged $11 ($7 for her own drink + $1 boba for her + $1 boba for me + $2 for tax and tip). Since 2 drinks ordinarily come out to about that much, we thought the second drink was included in the pricing and it just didn't print correctly on the order receipt that goes to the bar. When the owner came up to us to tell us that the receipt only showed boba for the second drink, we were confused but went back to the computer to look. He said that we were supposed to select which milk tea specifically. After my friend clarified that it was just the regular milk tea, we checked her phone and saw the $11 charge. We left thinking that was the total for 2 drinks. This man found us across the street and to tell us that we still needed to pay $7 more. I handed that to him in cash and he left. For clarification, I am not upset about having to pay the $7 that he was due for our order. I am simply stating that the ordering system could be improved to avoid mishaps like this from happening again. I also want to note that I think $7 for the drink + $1 for the boba is not worth purchasing here for the sole fact that it is not tasty. There's also just a little bit of street parking outside. The inside was a little dark with a lot of mismatched furniture and random products available for sale. Update: In response to this review, the owner has sent me unprofessional messages. Good drinks, friendly owner. I got the Jasmine Green Tea (cold) & my hubby got the Signature Milk Tea with boba. He said it was GREAT boba LOL. A small group of us stopped by to try a new tea shop. The tea was good, but average. The boba was very bland and tasteless. This was especially upsetting since the gentleman who was helping us was pushy about upselling to a second scoop of boba. If the boba had been good, the extra cost would have been okay, but it ended up being a waste of money. After ascending three steps, I entered a small room with a calm atmosphere. With calming music playing and the sound of running water I felt like I was in a meditation room. After talking with the gentleman about the menu, I decided to try the cold Strawberry Herbal Tea. After a short time he graciously brought over my order. He was eager to see if my Strawberry Tea was to my liking...it was perfect - tasty and refreshing. On another visit I was able to fully experience the best smoothie that I have ever tasted! It was a dairy-free Taro Smoothie. What a vision piled high and packed with flavor. On another hot day I was looking for something refreshing and light. The owner suggested the High Mountain Oolong tea. A perfect selection - cool, light, and refreshing. I look forward to coming back and trying other teas, smoothies, and coffee drinks. What an ABSOLUTE GEM of a tea/boba/coffee shop in Pasadena! Walking in, the smell of brewed tea and warm sugar just hugs you. Unassuming space, but such a warm and friendly welcome from the owner, Tommy. He exudes such enthusiasm and pride in his products that it is contagious. I ordered the HaiCha Milk Tea 50% sweet with boba, and truly, it's quite perfect. This drink is made with a blend of black and oolong teas. The tea flavor comes through the milk extremely well. The boba are perfectly chewy, bouncy, and this may sound odd, but round and slippery. You would think that all boba are this way but no. We have all had boba where the surface is sticky or squished with flat sides--like eating little gummy dodecahedrons. Ugh. HaiCha's boba are perfectly bouncy, slippery spheres, which is exactly how they should be. Tommy the owner is Taiwanese and imports all of his tea and boba from Taiwan. He brews all of his teas daily and of course, cooks the boba daily. He also makes these delicious Taiwanese snacks: coconut crunchy and sesame crunchy. Slightly sweet and full for nutty goodness! They definitely feed one's nostalgia for Taiwan. There are quite a few boba shops in the Pasadena area, and I have tried many of them. So far, HaiCha is clearly the winner when it comes to authentic Taiwanese tea and boba. It helps that the owner's love and belief in the product is so genuine. FYI: This shop opens surprisingly early, at 8:30am, every day. Apparently, there are coffee drinkers that come in for their morning Joe before work or class. Thiiiiiiiiiiis sweet man...we pulled up 8 minutes to close and he was *in* his car trying to go home and STOPPED his car to ask us to wait so he could come back and open up just for us OMG... He wouldn't take no for an answer, so we ordered a Mango Smoothie and a HaiCha Milk Tea (25% sweet). They really care about their customers here! As for the smoothie...these are SO much fun! Piled high like a smoothie tower. Basically two smoothies in one! A steal for the price, really. The mango flavor was nice, the sweetness level was good and not overwhelming, even at 100%. The boba are well cooked, but could use more flavor & sweetness of their own. I would try the strawberry one next time. The HaiCha Milk Tea was a great level of sweet for me at 25% (my usual order anywhere) and had a nice light tea flavor. I would try other tea flavors next time, as they had several that looked good, as well as some.black sesame crunch treats that looks snackable! I would come back here for the fun of the smoothie, especially with friends! We were about to leave but the owner came out the bathroom and apologized for the delay. He was very friendly and gave us great customer service. We tried HaiCha for the first time yesterday and boy, the tea was spot-on amazing with first-class service from Tommy, the owner). My wife ordered the Okinawa milk tea w/ boba (25% sweet), Hokkaido milk tea (50%), Hot Coffee w/ boba, and Haicha Fish balls (i.e. Fuzhou fish ball with meat inside). The sweetness recommendation for the Okinawa MT was perfect for my wife. I don't usually add boba to my drink but Tommy convinced me that Coffee + boba tastes amazing. He wasn't kidding - it was WOW! Also, the boba was made perfectly and wasn't on super sweet side like some other places. In chatting with Tommy, he uses high-quality, fresh ingredients as well as food all made-to-order. Tasting the items we ordered certainly validated that. If you ever been to Taiwan tea places, HaiCha feels exactly like that - relaxing ambiance (great for focus work or studying), delicious drink options, and super-friendly and attentive service from Tommy.
