3 roll lunch special: Alaska, tuna avocado, yellowtail scallion
    Adri M.

Ordered a 3 roll lunch special. For $15, it came with a choice of soup or salad. The food was good! Quick takeout service, nice staff. I'm not sure what the salad dressing was, it wasn't a typical ginger salad dressing. Everything was fresh, and good. The smoked salmon in the Alaska roll wasn't the best though, it was on the bland side. Otherwise no complaints.

I went there during Happy Hour and ordered a lychee martini with extra lychee nuts. It came out strong because of the extra shot of vodka that I requested. I also ordered a Yellow Tail Jalapeño Hand Roll, an Alaskan Hand Roll, and a Kani Salad. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the kani salad was so good. The atmosphere is cozy casual, making it the perfect place to go to with family and friends or on date night. Because of the consistently excellent service, cocktails and food, not to mention the vast parking lot, Takumi is now my favorite sushi restaurant on the Island.

The decor was beautiful; I really liked the consistent use of their logo, proudly illuminated at all the tables, which gave the space a sophisticated appearance. Even the menus were nicely done. I found myself gazing at the pictures instead of picking out my meal. To start we ordered the Japanese Clear Soup and the King's Treasure Roll. Both starters were delicious. The soup was served hot, lightly seasoned, and it really felt like comfort in a bowl. The treasure roll was good; we just had a hard time trying to pick it up with the chopsticks, as it was very slippery. With a little patience, we managed to get it. For beverages, we went with the Blueberry Lemonade and Virgin Mojito. Although both were decent, they were a little underwhelming and could've used more flavor. Next time, I might just order the Pineapple or Mango Virgin Mojito to see if it's any better. Our Entrees were great. My husband ordered the Spicy Crabmeat Crusted Filet Mignon, and he demolished it. I chose to go with two specialty rolls, The American Dream Roll and Rock N Roll, both fantastic. For dessert, we chose the Matcha Cheesecake and the 3 Flavor Tempura Ice Cream (vanilla, chocolate, and green tea). The cheesecake itself didn't have a strong Matcha taste, but that matcha ice cream was all the way IT! I could've had a bowl of that and been very satisfied. Really, their ice cream game is solid, so good! Lastly, our server Nicole was the cherry on top. She was so welcoming and attentive, offering suggestions, and providing descriptions of the menu items, she never made us feel bad for asking "What's That". All in all, we had an awesome experience at Takumi and look forward to visiting again.

There could be a line sometimes depending on when you come, but that's the only issue you'd probably run into. I had the all you can eat here and it was fantastic. They have many traditional rolls like Philadelphia, California, Tuna, etc. Alongside those, they have a ton of special rolls like the Roger Roll (sushi roll with crab) Kani Naruto (almost like a reversed California roll), etc. The food comes out very quick and is presented really nicely, the staff is knowledgeable on ingredients, and I loved how the menu had a star next to meals that have allergens that people tend to have. A great experience, would definitely come back again!

The best word I can think of to describe this ayce sushi spot would be 'decent' - Certainly not on…read morepar with quality sit down spots, nor is it the best ayce joint i've ever been too, but it wasn't at all bad. Much like other places in this genre, one price gets you bottomless apps, salads, hibachi, sushi and more. Nothing I had tasted bad in any way, but there were some things I wasn't crazy about, and they all reeked of cheaping out. First, sashimi is an upcharge, a bit ridiculous in my book. And while the food was indeed tasty, there was a whole lot of filler and minimal seafood much of the time. Kani salad was almost entirely cucumber & tempura flakes, very little crab to be found. And this is the first time I've ever seen soft shell crab served chopped up - typically a spider roll for example is a nice size piece of it in there, but their 'jimmy roll' whatever crab may have been in there was minced to the point where you couldn't even taste it. While I didn't order hibachi I noticed that they limit you to one order from that column per person. The Little things like this made the experience feel cheapened, I'd rather they raise the cost a buck or two and stop with the upcharges and corner cutting, makes you feel a lot less ripped off. Also important to note - skip they white tuna, they're using escolar. You've been warned. Would I come back? If in the area with a group that wanted to go here, sure. But I definitely wouldn't go out of my way for it or even choose to dine here on my own again.

Let's start with the good. We went on a full Saturday night. Our waitress and waiter, despite their…read moreeerily "The Menu-esque" mannerisms, were very friendly. The waiter very enthusiastically brought me a perfectly chilled beer and a perfectly chilled glass. I dug that. The Tokyo White beer was delicious. One of the best beers I've had. Our waitress did - on at least two occasions - tell us the chef recommends that we eat the dish faster and immediately after it is placed in front of us. To her credit, she said it in the nicest possible way and we obliged. Now let's talk about the food. The first course was an oyster. Tasted like eel sauce and wasabi- but a good balance. The second course was some sort of Tataki. It was also pretty good. Tasted like eel sauce and wasabi- but a good balance. The third course was some sort of seaweed salad. It was pretty good. Tasted like eel sauce and wasabi (you might be starting to recognize a pattern). The fourth course I don't fully remember the name of. It did NOT taste like eel sauce and wasabi. It was a warm dish, temperature wise. It kind of tasted like a thick seafood/corn chowder, but it wasn't a soup and it has a shredded consistency. It was alright. The next course was what they described as some sort of chef specialty soup that had to "cook for hours and hours".. It was miso soup. It was good miso soup. As good as any $4 miso soup I've had at any good, local, non-Omakase sushi restaurant. Was it better? No. And it was served in a plastic cup. It really should've been served in some sort of a stone or ceramic cup/bowl. I don't even eat out of plastic in my own home when I'm throwing together a quick $10 meal. There may have been one more starter course- but if there was, it certainly wasn't memorable. Now we're onto the "main course" dishes. This might be the fault of my own ignorance, that I expected the dishes to be very unique and make us "oooh and ahhh". But the next five courses are just single pieces of sushi roll. The staff and the chef would show us pictures of the fish and the chef would hold up the actual fish they were using- as well as showing us the JFK shipping label to confirm that it had been flown in recently. I believe you! But these next five dishes are where the immeasurable disappointment really kicks in. Each single roll was from a different type of fish- and I'm sure it was some of the highest quality, freshest fish they could source. Unfortunately, every single piece tasted exactly the same. This is not hyperbole or an exaggeration- all five of the next courses tasted exactly the same- like an average sushi place roll but with eel sauce SATURATED rice and a big glob of wasabi. That was the only flavor profile- eel sauce and wasabi. Some of them were seared with a torch. The ones that were seared with the torch had a slightly different flavor profile- the torched ones tasted like eel sauce, wasabi and butane from the torch! Again, this is not hyperbole or exaggeration- the main course sushi rolls from this high-end Japanese restaurant all tasted exactly the same. If I had bought those rolls at a regular sushi restaurant for $20 per six pieces I would've been disappointed. It's just not good. It's boring. All you can taste is soy sauce, eel sauce, wasabi, and butane.. I truly felt like they were playing a joke on us- seeing how pretentious they could act while serving us beyond overpriced and mediocre food and watch us all eat it up both figuratively and literally. Every single $15 roll I've had from Sushi Ichi or Mt Sinai Sushi (two other local Japanese restaurants) is preferable to what they're serving at Sora Omakase. We had the option of adding on a single piece Wagyu beef roll for $30. Thankfully, I didn't fall for it. I'm sure it would've tasted like eel sauce, wasabi, and butane. Now let's move on to the last course. They called it a "dessert" - but it's another salty fish dish of some sort. I don't fully remember what it was, but I do remember that there was a little piece of plastic on top of it. So I have to awkwardly ask the chef if this piece of, what I clearly know is plastic garbage that shouldn't have made its way to my plate, is edible.. the chef feigns a language barrier and pretends like he doesn't know what I'm saying. He tells me that it's seed garnish. I say "no not the garnish- I'm asking what this little piece of plastic is" and pointed it out to him. He says " oh that's paper" and he plucks it off my dish before I had a chance to take a picture of it. I didn't expect them to give me money back or even remake it- but they barely acknowledged it and didn't even apologize for the mistake. I couldn't help but I think about the waitress, reminding me that the chef recommends eating each dish immediately for the best culinary experience. Well, I have a suggestion for the chef- for the best possible culinary experience - I recommend you make sure you don't serve a customer plastic garbage.

Like many Omakase places, the…read moremeal consists of an explanation/story of how it was made and where the fish was caught which I think is really neat to know and helps me appreciate the food that much more. The inside is fairly peaceful and seats around 12 people. It seems that they got a new Chef since the last time I was here however the food was prepared just as well.
