This place is extremely unprofessional filled with irresponsible racist people. I made an appointment online and I received the confirmation through email and phone. I arrive on time, there are two women with no clients, and even with the proof that I showed them they declined me. Very rude, and they didn't even apologize. I've had issues with racism and there, but the woman who would always do my hair I wouldn't have a prob with- as she was also a victim of her co-workers. Not to mention, I met someone there who also reported it. Do not go there, it is a horrible place, and their products don't do anything. read more

Bad customer service. Despite having an appointment, I had to wait 45 minutes to be seen for a simple haircut. They even took a walk-in customer before me, fully aware that I had already been waiting for half an hour at that point. They were not apologetic. There are plenty of other places in Bethesda that offer haircuts at competitive prices (for both men and women) and won't treat you like your time is worth nothing to them. This a GREAT hair cuttery. Everyone does a fantastic job. I don't even know anyone's name but I know I can always choose first available stylist and I will leave happy. The stylists know what they are doing and they have a high standard. Haircuts are only $30, color depends on length and color but are around $82. Color takes about 1 1/2 hours, cuts are about 30 min, so both together is about 2 hours. There is a combo cut and color package for a discount including a special treatment. If you get color and you are a repeat customer they have your color number on file so they don't have to reinvent the wheel. They take the time find just the right color combination in the initial visit so they can get started right away. The stylists are very knowledgeable about what works best for each client. I recommend the combo cut and color package with the extra treatment. Worth it like twice a year. I'm sure there are great stylists everywhere, but this is the only Hair Cuttery location I have found that is consistently reliable. read more

Would give no stars if possible. My comment is about the receptionist- she threw me out for saying she was extremely rude. I'd said she seemed not to have come from around these parts. She told me I could never come back. She was new to me and before that I and my granddaughter and daughter had used this place for cuts and color for many years. We had gone to Mona who was fabulous. So... I came 10 minutes early for an appointment, my hair stylist was finishing up with a client. When she was done, she ask me to have a seat while she cleans her area for 5 minutes. After waiting for 15 minutes I looked for her and she was giving someone else a shampoo!!!! So rude Phoung, I left because how can you trust a not so truthful service provider. I normally get my hair cut in my hometown, but just wanted to simple trim with no layers and thought Hair Cuttery could handle that. I was wrong. The lady, Amy, who cut my hair was so nice and I even tipped her pretty well. I didn't have her blow dry my hair to save some money, so I didn't notice how uneven my cut was until a few hours later. I'm upset because I explained that length is really important to me and now I'll have to get even more length taken off to get this fixed. I will NEVER be going back here. I have easy straight hair and asked for a trim with no layers and they couldn't even get THAT right. When I went in the next day to show them, I was told I could EITHER get my money back or have them fix it. I got my money back and will never be going back there again. I live near to this branch thats why I always go here and every three months I get my haircut. What happened is that the hair stylist I told her not to USE hair RAZOR but she keeps insisting hair RAZOR. From the very start I told her to used SCISSOR. But then she used hair RAZOR. the name of the hair stylist is Ahelah. I am disappointed. I observed also shes in a hurry. Also,this is the second time that a hair stylist insisted hair RAZOR. At the very end,I complained to the assistant manager and I showed her the haircut that she did. The cut itself was disastrous... that said, I am aware that this is Hair Cuttery and I was getting a $30 cut--so had my expectations **extremely** low--this experience, however, managed to even undercut those. My hair is thick but I asked for a simple cut - few inches off the bottom, blunt cut, some minor angling/framing around the face, and thinning to take the bulk out. Again, I had super low expectations. The blunt cut was fine. When it came to the framing around my face, though, she pulled down a hunk of my top hair in front of my face and (to her credit), asked if that was a good length to start (what I assumed) would be the highest "layer" of the angle I had requested. When I affirmed yes, however, I was startled to see her--in one blunt chop--just cut ALL of my hair at that high point. There was no attempt at blending the now-bang-length chunk of my hair into the rest of it. She then announced she was done. I reminded her about the thinning and--again, instead of shearing downwards with the sharp end of the scissor--she took a thinning comb and just started making little cuts, completely randomly, into the back of my head. The kicker was that she didn't even brush through my hair at the end of this whole saga...leaving me to stand there for several minutes combing through it by hand to remove the "thinned" chunks no longer attached to my head. All said, I think more training would really go a long way for this stylist. I used to thin my **own** hair with the same tool she used--to disastrous results--which is why I force myself to have a professional cut it before I screw it up again trying to cut/thin it out myself. This is, however, the very first instance in which I sincerely know I would have done a better job left to my own devices. read more

The first time I went in for an appt with Abby, an assistant manage in the salon, she was 20 min late to start because she was having a conversation with her colleague in the back. She was very apologetic, even offering to come in early to accommodate my schedule for a future appt. Between that and the fact that I was in a pinch and needed someone who could work with my type of hair, I was hoping that first example of poor communication and lack of professionalism was a fluke and went to her for a couple clean ups and one full haircut. Annie provided the BEST hair service (shampoo & conditioner) for my daughter in less than 30 minutes for only $5!! She was VERY PROFESSIONAL, SERVICE-ORIENTED, and DELIGHTFUL to speak with as well. It typically takes me 5 hours to wash and style my daughter's hair, yet she saved me 4 hours; I WAS ASTONISHED! It only took me 1 hour to comb through and style her hair when we got home. I usually have a good experience coming to this location, that is why I rated it 4 stars. Although today I had my hair straightened, which hair dressers tend to use oils on my hair to smoothen it out. I specifically requested no oils on my hair since I know how oily my hair gets. But the woman who worked on my hair today used oil anyway, even after I asked her not to. I am very upset because I got my hair done for a special event tonight and now I'm not sure if getting my hair done will have been worth it. Hopefully it's not greasy by the end of the night... Phuong gave me the best hair cut I have ever had. I usually get my hair cut even all around but she recommended a high low (long in front, short in back) and it looks absolutely incredible! There is no secret that stylists cultivate steady customer relationships. It provides consistent business, fat tips, and clout with the parent company. I have an erratic schedule, and often impulse decide to get a haircut. Not conducive to having a regular stylist. So when I sat down today after being told I had a five minute wait, I became annoyed after 30 minutes had passed, and three customers arriving after me were given their regular appointments. The system needs to be restructured, if this is company policy. Their product is a fungible commodity offered by many vendors. I am taking my mop of hair down the road. read more

Booked an appointment last minute on my day off. All I needed was a simple haircut to clean up my ends. After washing my hair, the stylist immediately parts my hair down the middle. I told her I part my hair to the right. She asked me if I wanted it cut that way. I must have had a surprised look because she then said, you don't want a change? I said no. All I was looking to have done was a cut with some framing around my face and very light layers - mostly to give it a little more shape. She did the cut and blew it dry with a little styling with the flat iron. In the salon it looked okay, but once I got home and could see the haircut up close, it was a total mess. The ends are choppy and uneven. It honestly looks like a child cut my hair with safety scissors. This is possibly the worst haircut I have ever gotten. Never have I been more thankful that my hair grows fast. I'll be biding my time with my hair in its uneven ponytail until it grows back enough for a quality salon to fix their mess. I only wish that I could get back the $67 I paid so that I could put it towards a haircut somewhere else. I wanted to give them a chance because the cost of haircuts in this area is so outrageous, but clearly you get what you pay for. read more

I took my 5 year old here for a haircut and was disappointed with the experience. The woman washing her hair carried on a phone conversation during the wash. Then after she cut her hair she left my daughter unattended with wet hair while she washed the hair of another woman. She walked away and disappeared without saying anything to us for 10 minutes. I can see doing this for a grown up but a child who was already struggling to sit still is a little different. We won't be returning. read more

I wandered into this hair salon because I heard it was the cheapest around, which matters more to me since I have a very basic hair style that's hard to mess up regardless of the location. I was directed towards their electronic sign-in system and waited about 5 minutes before Annie took me. We briefly discussed the style I wanted and I showed her a reference picture. She was very methodical and careful, almost timid, while cutting my hair, but she did a satisfactory job with the cut and was very personable throughout the process. She asked me several times if I was satisfied and listened when I asked her for additional changes. Overall, I'd come here again because I got exactly what I expected out of it -no more, no less - without paying more than I needed to. The included hair-washing was a nice bonus as well. read more

I'd been going to a Hair Cuttery 10 miles away until I realized this one was a 7-minute walk from my apartment. If you haven't figured it out from my reviews yet, I tend to do things the stupid, more difficult way most of the time. This HC is like all the rest: walk-in, simple services, nice shampoo selection, low price. I was mad at this location last time I went in because I had long hair, and the lady who trimmed it slammed me with TWO long-hair charges, $10 each. I go to Hair Cuttery because it's cheap, and that extra $20 doubled the price of my cut. Lamefest. However, this time I came in on my lunch break and requested a trim with no shampoo and no blowdry. The stylist, Margot, was finished in ten minutes, and my hair looked so much better without the split ends I had been cultivating. $16 and a $5 tip, and I was on my way. Thumbs up. I am completely dissatisfied with the service. This was my first time at Hair Cuttery. When I first stepped into the shop, no one greeted/acknowledged my presence. I made an online appointment with a hair stylist. After going to the shop, I signed in using their check-in device which told me to "contact the hair stylist I made the appointment with". This is utterly weird. How am I supposed to contact the hair stylist while she is cutting someone else's hair? Also since this was my first time here, I didn't even know the face of the hair stylist. How am I supposed to contact her? Furthermore, the first page on the website mentions that new customers pay $12.99 on their first visit. When I walked up to pay, I was charged the regular price of $19. When I asked, they told me that the $12.99 deal is NOT available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. If that is so, then the ad on the first page of the website should have mentioned it. It is nowhere mentioned in the ad. I wouldn't mind paying the regular price at all. But this kind of deceit just upset me. Hair Cuttery just lost a potential loyal customer! read more

I'm normally reluctant to get my hair cut at a place like the Hair Cuttery but the one in Bethesda is ON POINT. Note--not all Hair Cutteries are created equal. This is the only one I will go to after a not-so-great experience at the one in Alexandria. It comes with the territory though. To survive in downtown Bethesda and its affluent concentration of smug, you need to be on your game. Anyway, haircuts are reasonable. Its $40 with the long hair fee which is still a good deal. They should really change the "long hair" pricing to say "Women with anything other than a man's haircut: Add an extra $10." Anyway, they always do an excellent job with my hair. It may not be the classiest of salons, but when I go here, I know I'm going to be satisfied with my hair which is the most important thing. read more
