Le at the Kensington MD location broke my hairline, gave me split ends, and butchered the cut. She pulled at my hairline so hard my scalp still hurts 48 hours later. She told me to dye my gray hair because it makes me look old. She read my emails over my shoulder and commented on them. She got in my face and shoved a bottle of product in my hand. The "clear" gloss she used for "shine" wasn't thoroughly applied because she neither brushed nor sectioned my hair and it deposited the strangest tint ruing my natural beautiful salt and pepper pattern. My hair is so damaged it will take years to properly recover. Then she charged me actually money for the mess. I don't understand how she is a working stylist. I contacted corporate twice and no one has responded. read more

I've been going to Le for over 20 years, and she is truly exceptional. She takes the time to get to know her customers, which builds a relationship of trust and comfort. Le knows my hair texture and what styles work best for me without me even having to say a word. I remember once being so tired that I actually fell asleep while she was cutting my hair -- that's how much I trust her! Le also recommends the best products to keep my hair healthy and always takes the time to explain how to use them. I had scheduled an appointment because a friend of mine recently had a stylist there cut her hair, and it was a really cute style. Since we both have curly hair, I thought I'd give the same stylist a try. The stylist was 10-15 minutes late for my appointment. (She hadn't arrived to the salon yet.) When she arrived, I was immediately brought back to her chair where she began pulling her tools out of her bags. I noticed that one of the hairbrushes already had hair in it and assumed it was her own she'd accidentally pulled from her bag. She left the chair for a moment to get some products for my hair. She returned to the chair, picked up the brush with hair in it and started to brush my hair with it. I immediately stopped her and told her she could not use that on me because it had someone else's hair in it and had clearly not be disinfected/cleaned. Her response was basically the vibe of "Oh, okay." She left the chair presumably to get different tools, but I got up, paid for her time, and left. I had hoped this stylist would be a great fit since the salon I've been going to costs 3x more for a cut, but I'll continue to pay 3x more if it means I know that the tools used in my hair are cleaned and disinfected between clients. read more

I gave this place a call the other day because I was having trouble scheduling my appointment online. Frankly, it just felt too tedious. LOL. I have to say that the person who answered the phone wasn't exceedingly friendly or bubbly. But she got me scheduled at the time I need it. I arrived early and they took me back for my cut just a couple minutes after my scheduled time. Nice and did exactly as I asked her. Although, when I called to book ahead I did specifically request the service that came with the scalp massage and I didn't get one. Needless to say, I ended up not paying for that part of the treatment. But I do find it odd that it was requested in advance and then not given. I'm new to this place and didn't know in what order they do things and therefore didn't know when to ask about it. But my hair turned out just fine. I may or may not return. I don't need cuts frequently so it'll just depend on how picky and feeling that day. read more

One sentence to summary my experience: This hair Cuttery should be avoided at all cost and you can thank me later!!! I normally go to a different hair Cuttery location. However I decided to go here to save time and distance. Boy did I make a mistake. Free parking in front of shopping center. A little bit tight in terms of parking. Accepts both cash and credit cards. Plenty of stylist here. However, my experience was by far the WORST ever with any salon. First off, its the business best practice (and mandatory) to ask their customers if they would like your hair washed. My stylist never mentioned this. Let's rewind. I came here and asked for the first available stylist. My stylist was a lady, I think she was Spanish, but I never really got their name. Anywho, I sat down and told her how I wanted my hair cut. It's very simple and seems fool-proof for any average barber. Never failed with other stylists. She totally FAILED that part. I ask for the sides to be trimmed to a certain level. Not only did she fail to do that, but she trimmed more hair than expected. Felt like she was guessing where to stop. And felt like she was not carefully and just continued with her way. When I told her she cut too much hair off than I expected. She asked should we keep the other side of my hair longer and untouched... SERIOUSLY?!?! By doing that, the hair will not be symmetric on both sides.. it's like you are asking if it's okay to cut half of your front lawn and leave the other half untreated. Her question was very unprofessional and made this experience poor. Her technique was very poor in terms of carefully trimming the hair. Felt like she was practicing and maybe not properly licensed. I immediately felt dissatisfied with my experience. I asked her (after she totally messed up the sides of the hair) to just do small trim to the top because she totally messed up on the sides. Normally a haircut would take 15-20mins. My experience felt like 7-8mins at most and got charged the standard $19 for the standard cut. So going back to washing hair, the stylist NEVER mentioned it and proceed to walk me to the front desk. Asking the customer if they want their hair washed is mandatory at all hair cuttery. My fellow Yelpers, I've been to several hair salons and have experience with several stylists. I highly recommend you to AVOID this location. Doesn't seem as if they use proper technique and my particular stylist provided poor experience. If I could give this shop a 0 to 1/2 star, I would. Unfortunately giving them a 1 Star is significantly overstated. Skip this hair Cuttery at all cost. read more

I was looking for an inexpensive cut/dry. Now a days salons charge $65-$75 which is ridiculous for those such as myself living on a budget. I'm always nervous trying a new stylist because you're not sure what you'll get! Ana at the Kensington Hair Cuttery gave me the perfect haircut and blow dry!! She was very professional and kind. I really should have waited for Iris, my regular hair cutting gal. I come from out of town to visit family near this salon several times a year, and it happens to be in alignment with when I want a hair cut. Iris wasn't available when I went in a few days ago. I settled for "Le" as a hair cutter. She and I discussed my preference for keeping my hair long, and just a trim and graduating layers to bring back the curl. She put the ends of my hair in her hands and said this much ? ( About 1.5 - 2 inches) I said, yes, exactly. She proceeded to cut and cut, it was too late to stop her. My hair looks chopped like a straw man. She was rushing because there was another client waiting for her. I'm completely disappointed, there's little curl. It will likely be 1 - 3 months before my hair looks "normal", and another year before the length is to my preference. Lesson learned, go to the hairstylist you prefer, accept no substitutes ! Now I'm wearing hats for the summer. Now I have to go hat shopping ! Bah Humbug! read more

Would give it zero stars if possible. Had a 5:15pm appointment yesterday with Amy. Loaded up the baby and my son and got there a few minutes early. Stood waiting to get checked in while stylists were talking to each other. Got checked in an told she was finishing up an appointment. Walk-in came in and asked for anybody. Amber added her to computer system and went and got a stylist and showed her the client. Stylist 2 spent the next five minutes looking at client and computer confused b/c system registered her as her son and stylist didn't have language skills to ask her her name and confirm this was the person (even though Amber had gestured to her). Wait about 10 minutes to be told Amy has too many appointments and can't take me. I said perhaps she should have called me and saved me the trouble of loading everyone up, driving and sitting and waiting. Amber, annoyed, said she would take me. Didn't ask just told. Nope. Stylist begins to touch me. NOPE. I left and she came out to my car. Big nope. Treasa and Iris give good cuts but the place is so poorly mismanaged it isn't worth it. This was the worst hair experience of my life. My appointment was not on their schedule. I was not surprised because when I called the day before, the woman on the phone didn't seem to know what she was doing. But I got taken. While I was waiting, I noticed that the place looked like a dump, as if no one bothered to clean or put anything away. The shampoo was rough and unprofessional, and the woman banged my head around unnecessarily. When I sat down for the cut, I told the woman exactly how much I wanted taken off, but she chopped more than twice that so now I have almost no hair. It'll grow back, I know, but in the meantime I look like a skinned cat-- with no style. She also asked, in a very roundabout way, what my religion was. This was very offensive and downright weird. It was also very noisy: awful music blaring at much too high a volume and people screaming at each other. Very frazzling. I paid by computer, and it took three people to figure out how to print out my receipt. I managed to keep my temper the whole time, but I was glad to get out of there and will never go back. read more

OMG! Ask for Maeza (master designer). She completely fixed my hair and took it from brassy brown and beige tones to beautiful blonde natural looking hair. She will make your hair feel super soft and she does not waste time. The best part about her- She doesn't over charge unlike so many hair stylist. Le N. has cut my hair for many years and I always have a good feeling about my self and my haircut when I leave. She's very good at what she does. I know the Covid-19 outbreak has been a hardship on all the stylists, I hope they all are alright and were able to file for unemployment. I hope to see the Haircuttery reopen soon, but I've heard that they evidently filed for Chapter 11 and there were some issues about paying those folks backpay. I hope that's resolved. Horrible. I asked for 2 inches and i left basically bald. She claimed she was "the master" after she told me she cut 4.5 inches. Who does that?? Don't recommend as they won't listen to your wants and will do as they please. Save your money or go somewhere else. read more
