Colby really took the time to listen to what I wanted and understood exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to keep my long hair while adding movement and shape, and he absolutely nailed it. My hair finally looks the way I had envisioned. Beyond his talent, he was incredibly kind and thoughtful throughout the appointment. Before I left, he even let me know that if there was anything I'd like adjusted after living with the haircut for a few days, he'd be happy to take care of it. That level of care and attention really stood out. I'm so glad I found both SAGE and Colby. I came in asking for a rich brown. Instead, I left with a very noticeable red/orange band across the top of my head that doesn't blend with the rest of my hair. I never asked for red hair, and the result is nothing like what I requested. Before I left the salon, after my hair was styled, I pointed out the banding because I could tell something looked off. I was told it looked fine, so I trusted the stylist's professional judgment. Looking back, I wish my concerns had been taken more seriously. I left for a planned trip to Europe shortly after my appointment, so I wasn't able to come back immediately. However, as soon as I returned, I repeatedly tried contacting my stylist and left multiple messages. I never received a response. When I finally spoke with the salon, I expected them to stand behind their work and correct the color. Instead, I was told I would have to pay again for an all-over color to fix a result that wasn't what I had asked for in the first place. At this point, I'll likely have to go to another salon for a professional color correction. Between what I already paid here and what it will cost to fix, I'm out around $500 or more. If achieving a rich brown on my hair wasn't something they were confident they could do, I wish they had been upfront about that before starting the service. I would have appreciated that honesty far more than ending up with a color I didn't ask for and an expensive correction process.

Aside from a few highlights around my face and on the top of my head, it didn't look like I had recently had my roots highlights touched up at all. My hair looks grown out as if I had not even had it done. Watch the video and you be the judge. When I brought up my concerns, the owner, I sent her this same video (Emily) explained that this is what the salon considers a partial ROOT highlight touchup. I already had my hair previously bleached . I respect that explanation, but for $240 plus a $50 tip ($290 total), I expected a more noticeable result. She offered to correct it for an additional $50. I'm sharing my experience so others can make an informed decision and have a clear understanding of what this salon considers a partial highlight ROOT service.

This review took me months to write because reliving it is genuinely upsetting. I want to start by…read moresaying the stylist I saw, Caitlyn, is a sweet person but she destroyed my hair. I went to her in October for a refresh of my highlights. I was already nervous, since my previous stylist had moved away and always took great care of my fine hair, making sure it never got damaged. I told Caitlyn upfront that I was anxious about letting someone new bleach my hair, given a history of stylists frying it, and that I chose her specifically because she's a senior stylist. She reassured me she doesn't use heat dryers and starts with a low developer, so my hair would be fine. Once I was in the chair, I explained exactly what I wanted: a little brighter, a refresh of all my highlights, but keeping the dark root and dimension shown in my before photo. She agreed and got started. She never mentioned pricing, so I assumed it would be around $400 at most. During the appointment, she suggested going through my ends because they looked dark. I said maybe next time, since I wanted to preserve the integrity of my hair. Later, she mentioned she'd gone ahead and done a few extra pieces at the bottom anyway something I never asked for. By the time she finished washing my hair, it was already dark outside, so I told her not to worry about blow-drying it. I went home with wet hair. Even then, it looked extremely blonde, which worried me, but I assumed it was just because it was wet. At checkout, I was shocked: the total came to $650. I left a tip anyway because she was watching the screen as I paid and I felt put on the spot. (Receipts attached.) When I got home, my husband immediately said my hair looked way too blonde and pointed out broken pieces. He was right. Over the next few days, it kept breaking. My hair had taken years to get healthy, and in one appointment it became dry, brittle, and was falling out. The extra strands she did without asking only made the breakage worse. I ended up buying box dye to fix the color myself, since I hated how it looked. As of June 2026, I've had to cut at least 8 inches off, and I'm still working to repair the damage. This experience caused me real distress -- I loved my hair, and I deeply regret trying a new stylist. I'm sharing this so it doesn't happen to anyone else. This salon has been a huge joy to my husband and I. We love the people who run the salon and the work they do. My husband has been coming to the barber for a while now (Shane), so i figured I would give their services a try. Today Lorrie did my hair the best I've ever had it done IN MY LIFE! We did a color and a Brazilian blowout. I seriously feel like a million bucks!!! Lorrie is amazing. Don't hesitate to come here ! Side note : After I got my hair done today, my husband came to pick me up and decided to get a haircut really quick. Shane was busy so we found ourselves waiting a little while. During this time Lorries next client came in. As I waited I observed this Indian woman being very rude to Lorrie and bartering the cost of her services. I couldn't believe someone would do this to a professional!! The woman got her hair done then proceeded to verbally attack my hairdresser! So if there is any bad review from this ridiculous incident , please know that Lorrie is not only good at what she does , but she is a kind and loving person. More than 5 stars for Sahyli. She made my daughter's hair look fabulous. My daughter is biracial and has very curly hair. Sahyli specializes in curls. I've been searching for someone local who can teach my daughter how to care for and manage her hair. Sayhli is it!! She took her time with a dry cut first and then washed her hair. Then came the conditioning. She explained everything she was doing and why and introduced my daughter to some very good products for her hair type. Great service. My mother is a very high profile stylist but she lives up north and I can't get up there as much as I would like. Fortunately, I found Kim at hair matters and my mother is very happy with her work. Hahaha. Seriously, she's is a rare gem that I feel lucky to have found. I see some reviews of people complaining that they are being judged, but honestly it's your stylist's job to make you look your best, if you don't like the advice, don't take it. I recently went to stylist Rick Ortiz at his new salon, Hair Matters. I had never been before and when I walked in, I was greeted warmly and was pleasantly surprised. The salon was bright and airy, very clean, and had a wonderful jewelry boutique up front. They were also offering fresh brewed coffee and cookies as a treat! Aside from a few highlights around my face and on the top of my head, it didn't look like I had recently had my roots highlights touched up at all. My hair looks grown out as if I had not even had it done. Watch the video and you be the judge. When I brought up my concerns, the owner, I sent her this same video (Emily) explained that this is what the salon considers a partial ROOT highlight touchup. I already had my hair previously bleached . I respect that explanation, but for $240 plus a $50 tip ($290 total), I expected a more noticeable result. She offered to correct it for an additional $50. I'm sharing my experience so others can make an informed decision and have a clear understanding of what this salon considers a partial highlight ROOT service.

The salon is always very professional and organized, and I really appreciate that level of consistency. The day of the appointment they were ready for me, on time. With this COVID situation the place is at smaller capacity and we kept the social distancing and use of the masks. I showed Sara pictures of what I wanted and she gave me some feedback, we came back with a plan. It took 4 hours but my old, damaged hair is gone and I have some color that goes with my skin complexion and my personality. I completely forgot to take the "before" picture of my hair, but we did take the "after". Will see them in two months.

Not only that, the photo I showed the stylist was an Aveda salon pic! Can the stylist here not comprehend that bleach should not have been used for this color. I suppose the best thing that came out of this is that I will be experimenting with up dos! Came in for an appointment with Rich on 12/27. (My third service with him in the past several…read moremonths) My wife and I were on our way home from picking up my 12 year old son in Long Beach, and stopped in for my 10:30am haircut appointment. We all entered the salon together, and my wife and son sat down on the bench to wait for me to finish my service. About 10 minutes in, I noticed that my wife and son were being harassed and talked down to by some random woman (hairdresser at the salon) and man-who my hair stylist eventually told me was the owner. They were raising their voices at them and pointing to a sign that said no children under the age of 13 were allowed in the salon due to insurance purposes. I genuinely thought they were joking at first, but it became clear pretty quickly when the intense interrogation of my wife and son regarding the day and year my 12 year old son (13 this week) was born that they were in fact, very serious. My wife, instead of arguing and not wanting to cause a problem, chose to just leave the salon with our son and go wait in the car. Had this been the only thing that happened, I may have been able to look past things and return to Rich in the future-however, I will unfortunately not be returning . Like I stated above, this was my third time with Rich, and while he did a great job on my first hair cut several months back, the last two appointments I have not gotten what I asked for. I decided to give it one more try this past week, and I unfortunately ended up with a horrible bob haircut that is way too short, and extremely blunt-when I asked for not much length to be taken off, and for him to just thin things out all around. Additionally, for the second appointment in a row, Rich cut the skin on my neck in two places while cutting my hair. I know that these kinds of things can happen, but it should not happen this often.
