This was my first time here with Mehrnoosh and this is a review on overall experience. Salon is super dark so you can't see anything that's being done to your hair. She was also rushing with me because she also was doing another clients hair at the same time. I was getting a Keratin treatment while the other woman was getting her hair dyed so keratin isn't something to be rushed through as it's literally burning hair and has to be well timed with product applying etc. she literally rushed so bad she did the whole keratin treatment within 30 mins. read more

I reached out to - whom I assume to be the owner, Mernoosh. I am in need of single process color and a Brazilian blowout. I sent a pic of my hair to show length. I was told it would be $350 total. I then mention that I bought a Groupon for the Brazilian blowout, so I asked what cost would be with that factored in. Mind you, I paid $100 for what is listed as a $250 service. Mernoosh replied that the Groupon meant I would pay only the difference... Assuming that this meant the Groupon value was deducted from that (again, $250), I responded to confirm that I would pay the difference of $100. She replied that the difference would be $250. (???) I asked for clarification on the Groupon being factored in, and she tells me that I paid $100 for the Groupon, so $100 would be deducted from the amount owed. *Long, confused pause* I then point out that the Groupon is meant to be a discount....not to pay $100 and get $100 towards my services. She says the services would normally be $450 and that I am getting a discount. Yeah, okay, Mernoosh. She also says very plainly that all I would have to pay is $200 total.......Uhhhhh, $100 + $250 = $350 but okay.... What in the delusional-hair-hell is this? Are you not understanding that Groupon is for the sole purpose of bringing in new customers AT A DISCOUNT, or are you just trying to trick me into a ridiculous price because you assume I can't do basic math? Either way, yeah no. I am willing to concede that an upcharge is reasonable because my hair is med-long length. But to be paying what she would charge any person off the street (and be stuck going back to Groupon for a refund)...what a waste of time. If you think you're too good to honor a Groupon, don't waste other people's time by using Groupon as a trap for new customers. That's not how you build a clientele. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Mermoosh at studio M! We spoke a while back regarding an appointment after I had purchased her Groupon. She was very up front about the additional charge I would need to pay after send her photos of my hair. I was definitely expecting and up charge as I do MY PART as a consumer to read the fine print. I see some negative reviews regarding this but it is CLEARLY put up front in her Groupon. I wasn't able to make an appointment as early as I had wanted to but when I reached back out to her she was just as friendly and awesome as our first time speaking. I found Mernoosh from Groupon and then did some Yelp research on her. She had such great genuine reviews on Yelp which really influenced my decision to book with her. I left her a message pretty late in the evening and she called me back a short time later. I really didn't expect to hear from her until the next day due to the time but was so pleasantly surprised. I explained that I wanted to be seen ASAP and she offered me an appointment just two days out! She was very professional on the phone and made sure to provide me with the exact cost my appointment would be so there would be no surprises. I really appreciated that. Her salon is located in a small shopping center with plenty of parking and meters. She's upstairs in a super clean and cute salon. I loved the way the salon was decorated and it just has a really welcoming feel to it. I'm in a new city and the idea of finding a new stylist literally had me stressing. After doing some research on where to get my hair done and getting price quotes for various salons, I chose Studio M Hair Design, although it hasn't been reviewed very many times, it stuck out to me. I requested Laura, who was absolutely wonderful, and honestly I made the right choice. Laura was professional and sweet right from the start. When I called the salon to make an appointment, the owner (who is also very accomodating and genuine) forwarded my request to Laura, who called me within minutes to set up an appointment for the following day (I was in a time-crunch). Now, I've never had my hair professionaly colored, and I was going from a light strawberry blonde to a dark chestnut brunette, and I was so nervous. I brought in various pictures of hair and Laura was extremely helpful, my best friend and her decided on the color, which turned out phenomenal. After coloring my hair, she gave me a trim and some layers, and I am usually almost ALWAYS disappointed with my haircuts, but not this time. Here I am 3 years later :) Mernoosh, owner, moves fast yet gracefully, proves her years of experience. I've come to her for Brazilian blowout, haircut, new hair style, color/toning, balayage, ombre, and a color correction (went for someone else based on recommendation, that was a mistake). She executes hair perfectly and that's why I keep coming back to her. She gives you exactly what you want and gives you her professional advice when you ask for it. I purchased a Groupon for Studio M Hair Design for a Brazilian Blowout. I have shoulder length, curly, thin-ish hair. I did some research on the Brazilian Blowout and it seemed like a good option to reduce the maintenance level on my hair. After getting the treatment I waited 3 days and washed my hair using sulfate and alcohol free shampoo and conditioner. For a few days my hair looked really nice, but the treatment wore off very quickly, when I straighten my hair it doesn't stay very straight, it curls under at the bottom, it is a little frizzy at the top. I've had it for a little over a month and hair looks the same or maybe a little worse than it did before, maybe not as curly, but that is almost more disappointing because it is in this ugly in-between stage of curly and straight, so I can't just leave it alone. read more

I was really excited to get my hair done, the place has good reviews and it seemed like a perfect place to do my first blowout. I got a groupon for Brazilian blowout. I don't have crazy hair, it's naturally straight, I just wanted something to make it less frizzy and lower maintenance. I waited 3 days before washing or wetting my hair, and after my first wash (which I use sulfate and alcohol free shampoo and conditioner) my hair looks no different than it did prior to the treatment. I updated my review from 2 stars to 4 stars, as the owner did message me and offer me a free re-do service. Since it is a drive for me, I declined, but appreciated that she took the time to read my review and act on it. read more

Curly haired ladies - you know how you've secretly envied the sleek, shiny hair your straight haired gal pals have? Well, a Brazilian Blowout is your answer and Mernoosh is your hair styling goddess! I have to admit it. I had so many hesitations about getting a Brazilian Blowout - I didn't want to waste time or money if it didn't work, I didn't want my hair to get damaged, I didn't know if I was ready to "give up" my curly hair... BUT! Getting one was excellent life decision number 1,234,695! I cannot tell you how much of a game changer this has been. I have VERY thick, coarse curly hair. My hair used to take about 50 mins for a blowout and now it takes about 20. If I choose to wear my hair curly there is NO FRIZZ! Just beautiful curls without the bulk. I love that I have versatility that I haven't had my whole life. I can go sleek ponytail, or wavy messy bun. And the best part is my hair is noticeably healthier with drastically reduced breakage, and a silky texture. It has lasted almost four months and I am just about to make an appointment for another one. Pro-tip: Follow the instructions and use sulfate free shampoo and allow a couple days between washes. Mernoosh has such a sweet spirit and you will not find a more qualified professional. The charming salon located near the beach is thoughtfully appointed, open and breezy. I got my Brazilian about a month ago so this review is long over due but I wanted to make sure I still loved my hair because if I didn't, I would give this place a 1 star. I'm giving it a 3 because my hair looks fab!! I bought a group on for $99 for a Brazilian blow out. I've been wanting to get one for a while and the reviews for this place was great, so I decided to try it out. Before I bought my group on, I spoke to Mernoosh, the owner, and she said that it would be an extra 80 dollars because my hair was so long and thick. That made sense and my total would still be cheaper than other places. I decided to go for it. Mernoosh is very sweet, but she isn't professional. My appointment lasted almost 2 hours but it seemed like she was more concerned with her phone. She was texting and answering her phone the entire time. She did ask me if it's okay for her to take a call, but I'm not going to say no. She's a grown freaking woman, do what you want girl. But just know it's very unprofessional. Before she even looked at my hair, she said she would trim it. She didn't even ask me. But I thought okay, might as well get healthy because I knew the tips of my hair were really dry. And a trim shouldn't be too much more money. All she did was trim and she charged me an extra 40 bucks. ON JUST A TRIM! I've gotten full on hair cuts at that price. I was not happy. Had she told me it would be 40 bucks extra, I would have said no. She just made a decision on her own and trimmed my hair. Money hungry! Although I do love my hair, I wouldn't get a Brazilian again because I work out so much, and every time you work out with a Brazilian, you have to wash your hair because salt and sweat isn't good for it. And the more you wash your hair, the more the Brazilian fades out. It's for people who sit there and only want to look pretty, in my opinion. And even if I wanted a Brazilian, I wouldn't come back to this place. It's a small cute studio on PCH with plenty of parking outside. It's located on the second floor. Convenient location but they rip you off. Well, she ripped me off. The studio is also very clean. Like I said, I love my hair. This review is for Kristi. I got keratin treatment here from livingsocial for $99. My hair does seem healthier so I'm happy with the treatment itself. However, i WASN'T TOO HAPPY ABOUT PAYING AN UNEXPECTED CHARGE AT THE END... My hair had split ends so Kristi gave me a little trim along the ends during the keratin treatment. And at the end when I presented my livingsocial voucher, I was asked to pay an additional $50 for the haircut. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying for a haircut. What i mind is not being told about the charge upfront. I FELT GYPPED..... but paid since I already received the haircut. I was hesitant to write this review because Kristi seemed like a nice person. And she told me they just established this business a year ago. So Kristi please do know i'm not writing this to be hurtful. But really, to me IT'S JUST FAIR PRACTICE TO LET CUSTOMERS KNOW IN ADVANCE IF THEY'RE TO RECEIVE A SERVICE THEY'D LATER BE CHARGED FOR. Gaining customer loyalty is a critical aspect of any business. And I can only imagine this is especially important for a service-oriented business like this one.
