During the appointment, the experience itself was uncomfortable. Chemicals were dripping onto my face, leaving stains on my forehead, and when my hair was washed, the water was cold and splashed everywhere. A few days later, after washing and styling my hair the way I normally do, I noticed how off the balayage looked. My roots already appeared very grown out--almost halfway down my head. I understand balayage is meant to grow out naturally, but this looked like it had been done months ago when it had only been a week. Even my family commented that it looked grown out. I called the salon to see if they could fix the top portion, and I was told my stylist, Angel, would call me back--but I never heard from her. Overall, I'm really disappointed. I confirmed the price with her ahead of our appointment and once again during our consultation. I had also received a discount code from her that she said she would apply to the visit. Midway through our appointment while we were making small talk she abruptly informed me that she would be charging me more than what she herself had confirmed during the consultation. It came out of nowhere and was very disorienting. When I reminded her of the discount, she made something up on the spot about how the new higher price still reflected the discount. It was super shady and vague and I felt extremely uncomfortable. I could not leave because my head was wrapped in foil and bleach when she chose to announce this change. The color also did not come out the way we had discussed and she pretty much rushed me out of the chair while we were still within our appointment window and kept making passive aggressive jabs about how she had other clients coming in and how she should charge me even more. It's clear that she was disorganized and had not planned her schedule well and was taking that urgency out on her clients. I found the experience to be unprofessional and baffling and will not be returning.

She was using them to finish my hair and I loved how it looked, so I asked her for the rec (there's zero pushing of products from the salon or anything, something I always worry about). She's also given me really helpful home styling tips when I asked. When I first started going to Crystal, I was hyper price conscious of going to the salon for color, and had done some home dye. Crystal wasn't judgemental or offended, and in fact gave me GREAT tips for doing color at home! Her cut prices are super reasonable for LA, especially relative to how good the cut is (it's GREAT). I'm going gray, and strategized a blending plan with Crystal and she's been moving me from dye red to natural dark blonde w/ highlights to blend the gray. She alleviated my worries in making the transition, and hasn't been overly pushy on pricey highlights. She did them in a way that I wouldn't need touch-ups/to get them done regularly, in fact. She also told me what toner/developer to buy from Sally's to tone my hair between appointments, which I really appreciate. I can't believe how much I love my (mostly natural) hair now! She also told me based on what I told her, the cost of my treatment would be from $375-$475. Not only did my treatment cost $550 (plus of course a tip), my treatment didn't even last three months! I understand how long it lasts depends on how often I wash my hair, but I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. I'm very disappointed that I threw money in the trash. Also, she claimed that it doesn't smell and it smelled awful for the first month minimum every time I washed and blow dried my hair.
