My son got a haircut here yesterday from a women with dyed hair and it was horrific. She was lazy and just shaved the back of his head without fading and everything is uneven. It was just sloppiest haircut - she had really terrible ability I wonder if she was new to cutting hair or was just flat out lazy or incompetent. I made some suggestions about trying to fade some of the terrible unevenness and things got worse. So just tried to get out of there asap. Other hair stylists seemed to be doing a decent job. I had a great experience getting my hair cut at Haircuts, LTD in Newton. I made an appointment online and arrived at the scheduled time of 11:00 am yesterday . I was greeted by the very friendly receptionist who confirmed my reservation and told me it would just be a few minutes' wait. It turned out to be a very short wait and I was in the chair by 11:05. Diane cut my hair and did a terrific job, as always. In no time at all, I was done and on my way. Despite pricing nearly doubling in the last ten years, I've generally been satisfied with the stylists at Haircuts Ltd. The people are friendly and the wait is usually reasonable. Not much to the ambiance or vibe but I'm not one to enjoy making a haircut into a spa day. I've been a customer on and off for over twenty years and think most of the team is very capable. If you ever want to see a place increase prices faster than inflation, check out Haircuts Ltd. Never in my life did I see a place increase its prices for simple haircuts as much as HLTD. Considering such a huge population of Newton area guys and gals head here for simple cuts, I'm sure that they can do it. They have a lot of hair products here from Paul Mitchell to American Crew, but the tough part is finding someone who can cut your hair how you want it to be cut. I don't know if Beth still works here, but she used to be the only person who would cut my hair with any sort of consistency. When you're a guy, you can tell pretty easily if your hair is uneven or poorly buzzed in the back as soon as the wind blows and I would almost always have to do some corrections to my own hair or pull a few out if Beth didn't cut my hair. I've gotten some horrible haircuts here if Beth wasn't working in the past and now that I'm in L.A., I'm happy to pay a little more for a much better cut. They're always really busy, but it's definitely just a baby step up from a Supercuts. read more

Don't go to Haircuts Ltd if you care about your health!! I went to Haircuts Ltd and got a Keratin hair treatment last week. I had done Keratin treatment twice before so I expected the same result! I was wrong! Last two times that I got the same treatment done (in a different salon) my hair became and stayed 95% straight and 100% frizz-free for months! After getting the treatment in Haircuts Ltd (Newton location) and following the washing instructions carefully, my hair is exactly the same as before the treatment! Curly and frizzy! not even slight improvement! I went back to Haircuts Ltd today and showed them my frizzy hair. I was told by the manager "Tina" that the treatment they do just helps with blow-drying and flat-ironing the hair and that's it!!! Meaning that with the treatment, when you flat-iron or blow-dry your hair's style will last longer before next wash!!!! I spent $210 on this treatment so that I will not have to flat-iron or blow dry my hair for 3-5 months! If I need to spend 30+ minutes on my hair daily why did I get a Keratin treatment in the first place?!!! Tina, didn't give me any explanations, no offer for any types of refund nor an offer for any free services! She basically said "That's the way it is!"! She didn't even tell me a simple "sorry"! I would never go back to Haircuts Ltd ever again and I discourage anybody who cares about their health and beauty to go there! Their prices are supposedly lower than real salons but don't waste your money there. it's better to spend a bit more and get real hair care services! BTW, I did some research on the Keratin product that they use in Haircuts Ltd: Global Keratin and found these facts: 1. Global Keratin is the cheapest Keratin in the market (NO WONDER!) 2. Global Keratin has more than 200% of the legal permitted limit of formaldehyde. 3. Formaldehyde is proven to cause CANCERS! even breathing the air containing formaldehyde is cancerous! 4 Global Keratin smells like strawberries, if you are in Haircuts Ltd and it smells like strawberries there, you are exposing yourself to serious diseases! read more

I'm a no-fuss kind of girl with haircuts. I'll take quick, cheap, and cute any day over expensive places with 5 day waiting lists and fancy names. I decided to try out Haircuts LTD for my annual cut. The hair was lookin a little dead and funky, and I have a wedding to go to so I wanted to look at least kind of decent. That being said, I'm also not terribly attached to my hair. I went in to the Newton location at around 7pm on Thursday. It was pretty quiet, and I was able to sit down for my cut/blowdry within 5 minutes of walking through the door. There was a pretty differing crowd there - a few guys in suits getting a quick fix-up, a young boy and his mom, and a few girls getting color done. I had Jessica, who was awesome and definitely more fun than a lot of hair stylists I've encountered over the years. While she worked, we talked Disney movies, Canobie Lake Park, the fashion habits of 5 year old girls, and a lot of other vaguely nerdy things. My "demands" for my haircut were: "somewhere near my chin, just a bob-like thing." Like I said, I'm not one for fanciness. Jessica did great. She gave me a lovely, simple bob that flatters my face fabulously and is definitely no-fuss. She even asked about my blow drying habits. All none of them. The cut/blowdry was somewhere around $23, and I think it's a few dollars more for longer hair. They also have a "10th cut free" card which I hope to use in the future. So, if you're a no-fuss type of gal who just wants a simple cut, I recommend Haircuts LTD. I was in and out very quickly (can't vouch for weekend business, though), and it was a really pleasant experience. As far as basic hair services goes, I will take this place over Supercuts anyday! read more

Went there to get a haircut after about 6 months without one. It was close to summer so I decided to get 4 inches but no more than it which I told the women. She then showed me where on my hair that would be that she would cut at and I said that was fine. After that she continued to cut it and my head was down throughout it so I couldn't see what she was doing. Normally I wear my hair in a bun so I like it all the same length and with no layers so they all fit into the bun. However, the lady that cut my hair this time literally cut every strand at a different length and now every time I put it in a bun I have a ton of hairs going in all these different directions because they are too short to fit in the bun. This happened because when she was all done she asked me if it was good and I said yes, but their was one strand in the very front of my hair that she didn't think "looked right" so she said to hold on and let her fix it. I didn't really think she was doing anything other than trimming a few uneven strands, but she literally cuts the whole freaking thing like 7 inches up and now I have this whole group of strands that are literally half the length of the rest of my hair. I am really mad about this not only because my hair looks like a disaster, but because I never asked for layers but she still decided to give them to me without my permission. DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE. And if you do make sure you let them know exactly what you want and give a lot of detail of how you want it to look because a lot of them are too dumb to ask and just do whatever they feel "looks good" which usually doesn't. I used to enjoy getting my haircut here, but my opinion has changed, drastically. I needed to get a cleanup (not even a dramatic new cut - just cleaning up the ends and trimming) so I mentioned to Emma, the stylist, that I just wanted to clean up the fuzz on my neck, and some uneven sections from a previous cut. I emphasized that I DON'T want any length off the top, and just the minimum amount to even it all out. We ended up having a great conversation, and I wasn't paying attention, but after she asked "what do you think? I just took about this much off of the top" and her fingers illustrated about 1-2 inches. I tried to hide my disappointment and building anger, but I just said "it's fine" and wanted to get out of there - but it doesn't end there. About 2 days after my cut, I noticed a rash around my neck - just behind my ear, and around the back of where my hairline ends on my neck. As time went on, that rash turned into a series of bumps, cysts and pimples. I NEVER get any kind of breakouts or acne in that area, so I was horrified. My wife suggested I go to my dermatologist to get it checked out, and I did. The dermatologist asked if I had recently gotten my haircut, and if so, it was potentially from the use of dirty clippers/scissors/razor. I had to take antibiotics and use a topical antibiotic, and I am still having to use it, 2 weeks later. I haven't had problems like this from Haircuts Ltd., but with the terrible botching of my haircut, and the subsequent infection from use of dirty shears or clippers, I will never go back here. When I first started I was a recent college grad and could not afford the up-scale salons now I am a successful professional who can afford those other salons but remain a loyal customer of Haircuts Ltd because of the quality, pricing and staff. You will not meet a nicer/warmer receptionist than Jackie. The stylists that have been there for years are all great at what they do and they're friendly and funny to boot. Quality, Comfort and Price........that's nice!!! Highly recommend all services......color, cut, blow-dry, waxing etc. Just be nice when you go they deal with enough nasty people. read more

Price is right for a kid's haircut and love the expansive hours and drop in service. I have taken my 9 yr old here 3 times. The first time I didn't pay great attention - he and a friend were each getting their hair cut. After quick instructions (keep it long) the two parents went back to the waiting area. I should have sent him back for some additional snips, as it didn't look much different than when he came in. In fairness to that stylist, it could have been faulty instructions. Lured back by the $11.99 prices (for kids 10 and under) my son has now gone to Svetlana twice. Once we asked for a longish haircut, which she did, but she also really cleaned it up, unlike the first stylist. This time he asked for a short summer cut. Again, I thought it was a nice job. We have never waited more than 5 - 10 minutes. Don't know if you can request a specific person (we randomly got Svetlana - I think!). I do not understand why it is so hard to get a good blow dry these days but Tina did a good job. It was so smooth and sleek it looked like she used a flat iron, but she did not. I've been going here for men's haircut for three years now. People are very nice and the price is more than reasonable. There are about 6 or 7 ladies cutting hair at the salon. Some of them are good and some of them are not that good. Tina & Terry do a good job. Sometimes it can get a little crowded on weekends. It's better than Supercuts. read more

The worst haircut place I've ever been to. Every time I went there (for 5 years) ever since I moved to Newton, I've only been happy with my haircut maybe twice. The stylists don't do what you tell them you want and then they give you a hard time when you ask for a refund they insist they will fix it even when it's already too short to fix anything instead of giving your money back. It's not worth going here at all. It's a lot more worth it to pay an extra 10-15 dollars and go to a higher end salon where the employees listen to what you want and then do it and do a good job.
