I first came here for my teenage son who wanted a very specific hairstyle. He was sometimes using a curling iron to get the look he wanted. U-bin cut his hair and gave him a wavy perm. She took me to the area where you get a robe then to hair wash station. After wash, we go to her station and she gave me suggestion on how to cut so I gave her the green light. U-Bin is awesome! She really puts a lot of care into every haircut. I love that she keeps notes on each cut, so we can easily pick up where we left off at the next appointment. I came here with my husband and we both got hair cut from the same lady. This is my first time cutting here but I'm not coming back again. I wanted my hair short, and I showed the lady of what I want. She told me to sit and she just cut my hair (before shampooing) without asking me how short I would want!! I mean, yes, I wanted it short but she should at least ask me about the length that I would be happy for her to cut. I think this is very unprofessional. Not only that, she didn't even ask if I want to keep my hair or not. I wanted to donate my hair but apparently my hair is not tied. I was really upset but that was very minor to this whole experience. While she was cutting my hair. I can see that she doesn't it neatly. She didn't part my hair into sections (especially for bangs). I can see my hair uneven and have layers on one side. I told her to fix it and it seems fine. She didn't style my hair but that's okay. My husband experience was not too different from mine, but he sulked it up. My husband and I came back home, washed our hair and this is really bad. It doesn't look like $70 (women) and $50 (men) haircut at all. My husband hair looks the same as before cutting and mine doesn't look even at all. I regret going to this place. I am a regular customer here. It's been about 7 years. I can make reservations easily and they treat customers kindly. One of the nice things is that there is no burden at all. Clearly I can do what I want to do. They always recommend the best way to do what I want. I decided to go for a shorter hair cut this time, and she did it exactly as I asked for. I am that type - the type of person who does not trust any hair dresser. I used to drive all the way to San Luis Obispo (where I used to live) every 3months to get my hair trimmed. Finally, after 2 years living in LA... I FOUND THIS WONDERFUL SALON! I messaged the salon using Yelp with photos I wanted done to my hair. Got a response efficiently from the Manager, Joyce. She asked me when I wanted to come in, and scheduled me right away. I came in the following day - all staff were welcoming, floors were clean, no weird smells you get from other salons. They welcome you to the reception and ask if they can take your purse to put in their lockers, just behind the front desk. And then, they point you to what they call "The Dressroom" and choose a robe you can wear throughout your visit. Jumping to my hairdo, Kate (hairdresser) together with Joyce, consulted with me before doing anything. Kate and an assistant (I'm so sorry, I didn't get her name) work on my hair for 3 hours. They were very careful, observant, and tedious which I really appreciated. I have so much to say but all of them are good. I highly recommend this salon to anyone!!! Finally went in for a long overdue/much needed haircut & treatment! I've been going to this salon for years but after moving to San Diego, I was (obviously) no longer able to come here regularly. It's so hard to find a salon that I trust with my hair because I'm so picky about my hairstyles/cuts but I can confidently say that the hair dressers here know what they're doing + know what would and wouldn't suit you. After years of coming here, I've learned to trust them and their opinions since I leave with a smile on my face almost every time I went in for a trim but ended up leaving with a layered haircut that I loooove! Going from box dyed dark brown to dark burgundy (color removal and haircut): Service: I chose U-bin for the cut and color, but since it does get busy sometimes, Sujin assisted with color removal, color, and rinsing. They all help each other, which is nice to see that they're a team. They made sure I was comfortable/entertained, with at least 5 magazines to read, and a pillow on my lap so I didn't have to tilt my head down. I was also offered hot or cold water, tea, or coffee, which was really nice. It took about four hours, which is kind of average for both processes combined. Initially, I showed her a photo with different layering, but then later told her I would like layers that were closer together. She doesn't need much direction, but for preferences, she does ask to make sure you're completely happy with your look. She took the direction and made it look exactly the way I wanted without any backtalk (like I have experienced at other places). U-bin asked for permission to take before/after pics and to post on Instagram, which was really considerate, since most hairdressers just assume it's okay without asking. Extras: She styled my hair and curled it exactly like the reference photo I showed her, which I didn't ask her to do, but she did it anyway, with no extra charge! When I left, she gave me a hug and a full-sized free tea tree emollient because she knew I had sensitive skin :) Skin protection: You get a robe to protect your clothes, ear covers (you can still hear), a towel for your neck, another mini smock for the area around your shoulders, and another large smock for haircuts/coloring. I have very severe eczema, so I really appreciate all the protection. Parking: Since it took over 3 hours (they usually just validate for 3), they gave me a new parking ticket with a later time on it and still validated it, so it was completely free! Price: $270 (w/o tip) I had previously used dark brown box dye, so it took two processes of bleach and one process of coloring (burgundy). If you have virgin hair, it's only $170 for a cut and color together! Amazing value, most affordable place and most professional service! Highly recommend U-bin/Hairdo! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this salon. My experience was beyond exceptional. I have always wanted to bleach and dye my hair, but it's never been an option for me as I have very fragile, damaged hair. The manager Joyce recommended colored hair extensions as an alternative option, and omg it's a game changer. I got the prettiest platinum purple shade and I am so thrilled with my results. The number of compliments I've received has been a confidence booster haha. I've had my extensions for over a week now and even as someone with sensory issues, it hasn't bothered me at all past day 2. The extensions are so natural looking and so easy to take care of. I have no problems washing my hair or even brushing and drying it. The lovely Joyce and another pretty young woman applied my extensions and the level of care and detail was tangible. They both constantly ensured that I was comfortable and they really went over the moon to ensure that I was happy with the areas of application. The salon itself is so upscale, pretty, and clean. It had been 7 months since my last haircut and I needed a trim and wanted to add layers to my hair because it was heavy/ a lot to deal with.
